Evaluation of the Data Migration between CPU Memory and GPU Memory for a NVIDIA Pascal GPU Using Unified Memory (통합 메모리를 사용하는 NVIDIA 파스칼 GPU에서의 CPU 메모리와 GPU 메모리 간 데이터 통신 분석)

  • 통합 메모리는 CPU 메모리와 GPU 메모리 간의 데이터 통신을 개발자에게 투명하게 내재적으로 수행하는 소프트웨어 런타임 환경으로 개발자에게 CPU 메모리와 GPU 메모리가 통합된 하나의 메모리로 보이게 해준다. 통합 메모리는 장점에도 불구하고 아직 널리 사용되지 못하고 있는데 그 이유는 내재적으로 수행되는 데이터 통신의 오버헤드가 큰 것으로 알려져 있기 때문이다. 하지만 이 데이터 통신이 구체적으로 어떻게 이루어지고 오버헤드는 어떻게 발생하는지 분석한 연구는 아직 존재하지 않는다. 우리는 NVIDIA 사의 최신 GPU 마이크로아키텍처 중 하나인 파스칼을 사용하는 GPU를 대상으로 하여, 통합 메모리를 사용할 시 데이터 통신이 이루어지는 조건과 GPU 응용의 수행시간에 데이터 통신이 끼치는 영향을 실험을 통해 분석한다. 실험 결과 통합 메모리의 오버헤드는 두 가지 원인 때문에 발생한다. 첫째, 통합 메모리를 사용하면 CPU 또는 GPU가 데이터에 접근할 때마다 이 데이터는 CPU 또는 GPU 메모리로 옮겨지고 옮겨진 데이터는 제거된다. 따라서 재사용할 데이터도 제거되어 추가적인 데이터 통신이 발생하고, 이 데이터 통신의 지연시간은 GPU 응용의 수행시간에 더해진다. 둘째, 통합 메모리를 사용하면 데이터 통신과 커널들이 서로 다른 스트림에 할당되어도 동시에 수행되지 못한다. 따라서 GPU 응용의 수행시간은 동시에 수행되던 데이터 통신과 커널의 수행시간만큼 증가한다.

  • An applying Thermodynamic method for the purpose of measuring hydraulic efficiency of pump-motor system, based on IEC60041 code, is not easy to adopt at field test. Even though there were splendid development in measuring technic in discharge measuring through the hydraulic machina lots of unsolved problems concerned in flow-rate are still remain in measuring hydraulic efficiency in hydraulic machine. The key point in measuring hydraulic efficiency is to measure exact flow-rate. So, Thermodynamic methode provides a good solution. This methode measures hydraulic efficiency by detecting the difference of temperature and pressure between the hydraulic process of machine, without measuring flow-rate of pump or turbine. By measuring temperature in mk level and absolute pressure in pascal, we can get a difference of thermodynamic specific energy in Moliere chart before and after of hydraulic process, md that difference is equal to hydraulic loses. Following the standard in proceeding Thermodynamic methode, I hope these trial and records make others be familiar to the thermal methode and make it easer to beginner for trial.

Fault Detection and Diagnosis Simulation for CAV AHU System (정풍량 공조시스템의 고장검출 및 진단 시뮬레이션)

  • In this study, FDD algorithm was developed using the normalized distance method and general pattern classifier method that can be applied to constant air volume air handling unit(CAV AHU) system. The simulation model using TRNSYS and EES was developed in order to obtain characteristic data of CAV AHU system under the normal and the faulty operation. Sensitivity analysis of fault detection was carried out with respect to fault progress. When differential pressure of mixed air filter increased by more than about 105 pascal, FDD algorithm was able to detect the fault. The return air temperature is very important measurement parameter controlling cooling capacity. Therefore, it is important to detect measurement error of the return air temperature. Measurement error of the return air temperature sensor can be detected at below $1.2^{\circ}C$ by FDD algorithm. FDD algorithm developed in this study was found to indicate each failure modes accurately.

  • The Zienkiewicz-Zhu(Z/Z) error estimate is slightly modified for the hierarchical p-refinement, and is then applied to L-shaped plates subjected to bending to demonstrate its effectiveness. An adaptive procedure in finite element analysis is presented by p-refinement of meshes in conjunction with a posteriori error estimator that is based on the superconvergent patch recovery(SPR) technique. The modified Z/Z error estimate p-refinement is different from the conventional approach because the high order shape functions based on integrals of Legendre polynomials are used to interpolate displacements within an element, on the other hand, the same order of basis function based on Pascal's triangle tree is also used to interpolate recovered stresses. The least-square method is used to fit a polynomial to the stresses computed at the sampling points. The strategy of finding a nearly optimal distribution of polynomial degrees on a fixed finite element mesh is discussed such that a particular element has to be refined automatically to obtain an acceptable level of accuracy by increasing p-levels non-uniformly or selectively. It is noted that the error decreases rapidly with an increase in the number of degrees of freedom and the sequences of p-distributions obtained by the proposed error indicator closely follow the optimal trajectory.

  • Objectives : To investigate the role of Meridian flow on acupuncture effect, we observed the therapeutic effects of electroacupuncture (EA) after Meridian blocking with pressure in arthritic rats. Methods : To make reliable and local monoarthritis, $40{\;}{\mu}l$ complete Freund's adjuvant was injected into the tibio-tarsal joint. EA was applied on acupoint GB30 while 5 Pascal pressure was added to the middle of the Gall bladder Meridian around GB31 between acupoint GB30 and arthritic foci (ipsilateral meridian blocking: IB) or opposite part of IB (contralateral part blocking: CB). To observe the change of arthritis, extension and flexion pain scores and circumferential differences were evaluated once a week. Results : EA stimulation without blocking reduced arthritic pain significantly. IB abolished the acupuncture effects and there was no statistical difference with the arthritic control group, whereas the CB group still showed the therapeutic effects of acupuncture. Conclusions : This finding strongly supports that the Meridian blocking with local pressure reduced the therapeutic effect of EA.

  • The majority of database users interact with database systems by manipulating forms. This paper discusses the fundamentals underlying forms and considers low these mechanisms affect the behavior of forms We then review the forms supported by commercial products. None of the packages reviewed provide all of the features that make up an ideal form. We propose a new design that overcomes many of the limitations observed in the packages currently available. The new system is event- driven, object-oriented, supports a hierachy of composite blocks, and is primarily modeless. Forms are defined as top-level blocks and blocks can be either atomic or composite structures with methods directly included in their definition. Messages are passed among form objects. Defining forms with the proposed system is simple because from definitions are similar to type declarations in Pascal.

  • The study covers the behavior of reinforced concrete deep beams loaded under 4-point bending, failed by shear and repaired using bonding glass fiber reinforced plastics fabrics (GFRP) patches. Two rehabilitation methods have been used to highlight the influence of the composite on the ultimate strength of the beams and their failure modes. In the first series of trials the work has been focused on the reinforcement/rehabilitation of the beam by following the continuous configuration of the FRP fabric. The patch with a U-shape did not provide satisfactory results because this reinforcement strategy does not allow to increase the ultimate strength or to avoid the abrupt shear failure mode. A second methodology of rehabilitation/reinforcement has been developed in the form of SCR (Strips of Critical Region), in which the composite materials reinforcements are positioned to band the inclined cracks (shear) caused by the shear force. The results obtained by using this method lead a superior out come in terms of ultimate strength and change of the failure mode from abrupt shearing to ductile bending.

The reinvention method for the gifted students in mathematics education according to Freudenthal's theory (Freudenthal의 재발명 방법에 근거한 초등 수학영재 지도 방안)

  • In modern theory, creativity is an aim of mathematics education not only for the gifted but also fur the general students. The assertion that we must cultivate the creativity for the gifted students and drill the mechanical activity for the general students are unreasonable. Freudenthal has advocated the reinvention method, a pedagogical principle in mathematics education, which would promote the creativity. In this method, the pupils start with a meaningful context, not ready-made concepts, and invent informative method through which he could arrive at the formative concepts progressively. In many face the reinvention method is contrary to the traditional method. In traditional method, which was named as 'concretization method' by Freudenthal, the pupils start with ready-made concepts, and applicate this concepts to various instances through which he could arrive at the understanding progressively. Freudenthal believed that the mathematical creativity could not be cultivated through the concretization method in which the teacher transmit a ready-made concept to the pupils. In the article, we close examined the reinvention method, and presented a context of delivery route which is a illustration of reinvention method. Through that context, the principle of pascal's triangle is reinvented progressively.

  • This paper discusses the various modes of operations of cargo ships which are liner operations, tramp shipping and industrial operations, and mathematical programming, simulation , and heuristic method that can be used to solve ships routing and scheduling problems for each of these operations. In particular, this paper put emphasis on a crude oil tanker scheduling problem. The problem is to achieve an optimal sequence of cargoes or an optimal schedule for each ship in a given fleet during a given period. Each cargo is characterized by its type, size, loading and discharging ports, loading and discharging dates, cost, and revenue. Our approach is to enumerate all feasible candidate schedate schedules for each ship, where a candidate schedule specifies a set of cargoes that can be feasibly carried by a ship within the planning horizon , together with loading and discharging dates for each cargo in the set. Provided that candidate schedules have been generated for each ship, the problem of choosing from these an optimal schedule for each ship is formulated as a set partitioning problem, a set packing problem, and a integer generalized network problem respectively. We write the PASCAL programs for schedule generator and apply our approach to the crude oil tanker scheduling problem similar to a realistic system.
