In this study, nano-sized tin oxide powder with an average particle size of below 50 nm is prepared by the spray pyrolysis process. The influence of air pressure on the properties of the generated powder is examined. Along with the rise of air pressure from $0.1kg/cm^2$ to $3kg/cm^2$, the average size of the droplet-shaped particles decreases, while the particle size distribution becomes more regular. When the air pressure increases from $0.1kg/cm^2$ to $1kg/cm^2$, the average size of the dropletshaped particles, which is around 30-50 nm, shows hardly any change. When the air pressure increases up to $3kg/cm^2$, the average size of the droplet-shaped particles decreases to 30 nm. For the independent generated particles, when the air pressure is at $0.1kg/cm^2$, the average particle size is approximately 100 nm; when the air pressure increases up to $0.5kg/m^2$, the average particle size becomes more than 100 nm, and the surface structure becomes more compact; when the air pressure increases up to $1kg/cm^2$, the surface structure is almost the same as in the case of $0.5kg/cm^2$, and the average particle size is around 80- 100 nm; when the air pressure increases up to $3kg/cm^2$, the surface structure becomes incompact compared to the cases of other air pressures, and the average particle size is around 80-100 nm. Along with the rise of air pressure from $0.1kg/cm^2$ to $0.5kg/cm^2$, the XRD peak intensity slightly decreases, and the specific surface area increases. When the air pressure increases up to $1kg/cm^2$ and $3kg/cm^2$, the XRD peak intensity increases, while the specific surface area also increases.
This study describes the spray structure of gasoline port injectors by using phase Doppler particle analyzer(PDPA) and particle motion analysis system(PMAS). The characteristics of fuel spray such as the spray penetration, spray angle and breakup processes were obtained by PMAS and the droplet size and mean velocity were measured by PDPA system. Pintle type and two-hole type injectors were used as gasoline port fuel injectors under various injection pressures. The effect of injection pressure on the droplet mean diameter and axial mean velocity of droplet were investigated under the various injection conditions. In addition the comparison of breakup processes for the two types of injectors was also conducted. It Is shown that pintle type injector has smaller droplet size than that of two-hole type injector.

The main purpose of this study is to generate a fine copper oxide powder of high purity, with a compact structure and a uniform particle size by a spray pyrolysis process. The raw material is a waste copper chloride solution formed in the manufacturing process of Print Circuit Board (PCB). This study also examines the influences of various factors on the properties of the generated powder. These factors include the reaction temperature, the inflow speed of the raw material solution, the inflow speed of the air, the size of the nozzle tip, and the concentration of the raw material solution. It is discovered that, as the reaction temperature increases from 80$0^{\circ}C$ to 100$0^{\circ}C$ , the particle size of the generated powder increases accordingly, and that the structure of the powder becomes much more compact. When the reaction temperature is 100$0^{\circ}C$, the particle size of the generated powder increases as the concentration of copper in the raw material solution increases to 40g/l, decreases as the concentration increases up to 120g/l, and increases again as the concentration reaches 200g/1. In the case of a lower concentration of the raw material solution, the generated powder appears largely in the form of CuO. As the concentration increases, however, the powder appears largely in the form of CuCl. When the concentration of copper in the raw material solution is 120g/1, the particle size of the generated powder increases as the inflow speed of the raw material solution increases. When the concentration of copper in the raw material solution is 120g/1, there is no evident change in the particle size of the generated powder as the size of the nozzle tip and the air pressure increases. When the concentration is 40g/1, however, the particle size keeps increasing until the air pressure increases to 0.5kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, but decreases remarkably as the air pressure exceeds 0.5kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
To achieve the requirement for high fuel economy and low emissions, the research for GDI engines is recently very brisk in the whole world. This study was performed to measure distribution of average particle size in non-evaporating spray. The 2-D fluorescence/scattering images of fuel spray were captured simultaneously by visualization system composed of a laser sheet, a doubling prism, optical filters, and an ICCD camera. Using the ratio of the two light intensities, particle size distribution was obtained. The SMD measured by fluorescence/scattering technique was compared with it obtained by PDA. The experimental results show that the spray structure of GDI injector and temporal SMD distribution.
AlSi-Al$_2$O$_3$ composite layer was prepared by plasma spray on steel substrate. The composite powder for plasma spray was prepared by simple mechanical blending. The wear resistance of the composite layers and matrix aluminum alloy were performed in terms of size distribution of ceramic particles. Friction coefficients of AlSi were decreased with incorporation of $Al_2$O$_3$. The tribological properties of coated layers were affected by the size of incorporated $Al_2$O$_3$ particle. The reinforcement of $Al_2$O$_3$ particle into aluminum alloy matrix decreased the friction coefficient as well as wear loss.
Fine ceramic particles of zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA), titania toughened alumina (TTA), and zirconia-titania toughened alumina (ZTTA) have been synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) at various temperatures from starting salt solutio ns of various compositions aiming for the development of catalytic material. These particles were characterized for properties such as shape, size and size distribution, diffraction pattern, and chemical and phase composition of elements by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), particle size analyzer (PSA), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Chemical compositions and sizes of ceramic composites have been controled by the stoichiometry of salt solutions and the flow rate of spraying solutions. The optimum experimental conditions for the various composite particle syntheses have been proposed.
Hybrid material(ceramic+metal) processes were developed for micro filter using ceramics coating at metal filter surface by thermal spray method, micro hole drilling at ceramic coated filter surface by femtosecond laser, and fiber laser direct welding of ceramic and metal (SUS304, SM45C) by capillary effect. Thermal spray process was used for ceramic powders and metal filters. The used ceramic powders were $Al_2O_3+40TiO_2$(Metco 131VF) powder of maximum particle size $5{\mu}m$ and ${Al_2O_3}99+$(Metco 54NS) power of maximum particle size 45m. Ceramic coated filters using thermal spray method had a great influence on powder material, particle size and coating thickness but had a fine performance as a micro filter. CW fiber laser was used to drill the top ceramic layer and melt the bottom metal layer for joining applications.
A series of experiment has been performed on the spray characteristics in a cylindrical confined space with the injection pressure taken as a parameter. By using a single-hole patternator and the Malvern particle sizer, the spray mass flux, drop size and volume concentration distributions along the radial and axial directions were obtained ; the line-of- sight data by Malvern particle sizer have been converted to the ring-of-sight data by using the tomographical transformation techniqe. The experimental results show that, due to the restriction on the ambient gas entrainment by the wall boundary, the effective spray angle is increasing. The spray drops were measured to be smaller in the confined space because of a large number of floating small drops by recirculation of the gas phase and the breakup of large drops by the wall collision. Also the details on the flow behavior of the confined spray are discussed.
Spray characteristics of external mixing sonic twin-fluid atomization nozzles are investigated experimentally. Particle sizes are measured by the Fraunhofer diffraction method using the Malvern particle analyzer, and their radial distributions are obtained using the tomographical transformation technique. The spatial distribution of SMD shows that the drop size increases in the radial direction at a fixed liquid flow rate, and the distribution is getting uniform rapidly as the atomizing gas pressure increases. The SMD decreases as the liquid flow rate increases at a fixed GLR. It is found that the atomization efficiency of the flush type sonic nozzle is superior to that of protrusion type. The effect of laser beam diameter of the particle analyzer on the spatial SMD distribution is minor at present experimental conditions.
With desires for safe food, there is growing concern that pesticide spray drift will expose people, plants, and the environment to pesticide residue and potential negative effects thereof. For highly efficient, safe spray application, technologies for measuring the spray drift should be developed and improved with some urgency. This study investigated the applicability of two optical particle counters (OPCs), which are mostly used to measure airborne particle mass concentration, for measurement of airborne pesticide spray drift. Experiments were conducted in a controlled laboratory and an ash tree orchard to evaluate the handiness and accuracy of two OPCs, OPC 1 and OPC 2. The experimental results indicated that the OPC 1 was better applicable to the measurement of spray drift in the field while the use of the OPC 2 was limited due to its narrow range of measurable droplet sizes. The readings of the OPC 1 produced highly accurate results ($R^2=0.9637$) compared to the actual spray drift. For better application of OPCs, this study suggests the OPCs should be positioned properly to inhale spray droplets of the appropriate size and concentration.
