  • A two-dimensional particle-in-cell(PIC) simulation with a Monte-Carlo Collision(MCC) has been developed to investigate the discharge characteristics of the acceleration channel of a HET. The dynamics of electrons and ions are treated with PIC method at the time scale of electrons in order to investigate the particle transport. The densities of charged particles are coupled with Poisson's equation. Xenon neutrals are injected from the anode and experience elastic, excitation, and ionization collisions with electrons, and are scattered by ions. These collisions are simulated by using an MCC model. The effects of control parameters such as magnetic field profile, electron current density, and the applied voltage have been investigated. The secondary electron emission on the dielectric surface is also considered.

  • A meshless method which is the new computational method being developed recently, is applied to the simulation of large deformation problems. Among the many types of meshless methods, the Reproducing Kernel particle method (RKPM) is used and the nearly incompressible hyperelastic materials are employed in simulations. The meshless methods can avoid metsh distortions and mesh entanglements that may frequently happen when the mesh-based methods like finite element method are used for the simulations of largely deformed materials. A general features of meshless methods are reviewed and the formulation of RKPM is presented. Next, the performance of explicit RKPM is demonstrated by examples.

  • The nonlinear free-surface motions interacting with a floating body were investigated using the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method proposed by Koshizuka and Oka [6] for incompressible flow. In the numerical method, more realistic Lagrangian moving particles were used for solving the flow field instead of the Eulerian approach with a grid system. Therefore, the convection terms and time derivatives in the Navier-Stokes equation can be calculated more directly, without any numerical diffusion, instabilities, or topological failure. The MPS method was applied to a numerical simulation of predicting the efficiency of floating-type breakwater interacting with waves.

  • In this paper, proposed a multi-channel charging control strategy for electric vehicle. This control strategy can adjust the charging power according to the calculated state-of-charge (SOC). Electric vehicle (EV) charging system using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed. A stochastic optimization algorithm technique such as PSO in the time-of-use (TOU) price used for the energy cost minimization. Simulation results show that the energy cost can be reduced using proposed method.

  • A new Lagrangian stochastic dispersion model is developed by combining the GLM(generalized Langevin model) and the elliptic relaxation method. Under the physically plausible assumptions a simple analytical solution of elliptic relaxation is obtained. To compare the performance of our model with other model, the statistics of particle velocity as well as concentration are investigated. Numerical simulation results show good agreement with available experimental data.

  • This paper describes the influence of conducting particle within the coaxial cylindrical electrodes gap under alternating voltage condition investigated using charge simulation method. If the conducting particles precent in the gas insulated system, they can cause decrement of breakdown voltage. Thus, three dimensions computations of electric fields and electrostatic forces have been carried out according to particle location. The results show a good agreement with those of outside country, which can offer a practical reference on the insulation design of domestic GIS.

  • Membrane filtration has become firmly established as a primary process for ensuring the purity, safety and efficiency of treatment of water or effluents. Several researches have been performed to develop and design membrane systems in order to increase the accuracy and performance of the processes. In this study, a lattice Boltzmann method for the cake layer has been developed using particle dynamics based on an immersed boundary method and the cake layer formation process on membrane has been numerically simulated. Case studies including various particle sizes were also performed for a microfiltration process. The growth rate of the cake layer thickness and the permeation flow rate along the membranes were predicted. The results of this study agreed well with that of previous experiments. Effects of various particle diameters on the membrane performance were studied. The cake layer of a large particle tended to be growing fast and the permeation flow going down rapidly at the beginning. The layer thickness of a small particle increased constantly and the flow rate was smaller than that of the large particle at the end of simulation time.

  • In particle-based fluid simulation, applying sudden power to particle raise unnatural flow when wave is breaking. To solve this problem, we have used an linear interpolation technique that interpolate between fluid particle by subdividing the time interval in the previous work. Acceleration vector of the particle with increased pressure in boundary could change smoothly. However, particle looks like flow with viscosity because the number of the minimum samples to interpolate increases. We propose an weighted-interpolation technique to represent the realistic movement of fluid. it is accumulating that has added and assigned different weights to the previous acceleration vector and current one repeatedly. weighted-interpolation technique using less minium samples to flow than linear interpolation, so it can solve the problem which particle looks like flow with viscosity.

  • The main purpose of this study is to investigate the collection efficiency characteristics of a cylindrical ESP. To do that, it is necessary to analyze the electric field, gas flow field, and mechanism of particle movement by numerical simulation based on EHD model. For a gas flow field, Navier-Stokes equation involving the electric source term was solved by SIMPLE algorithm. In case of the electric field, the current continuity and electric field equations were solved by S.O.R. method. The analysis of particle movement was performed on the basis of PSI-CELL model from the Lagrangian viewpoint. The results showed that the influence on the gas flow field by the electric field is almost negligible in a cylindrical ESP. The particle drift velocity $V_P$ toward the collection surface is increased continuously by the electrostatic force due to the rise of particle charge as the particle is moving to the flow direction and the particle size becomes larger. The collection efficiency is to quitely higher with the increase of applied voltage for the same particle size, while becomes smaller as the inlet velocity is increased.
