The use of river sand for fine aggregate in UHPC and the effect of its particle size

  • For the purpose of improving the properties of UHPC as well as the economic efficiency in production of the material, Availability of river sands as fine aggregate instead of micro silica sand were investigated. Four different sizes of river sands were considered. Using river sand instead of micro silica sand increased the flowability, and decreased the yield stress and plastic viscosity in rheological properties, and the effect was higher with larger particle size of river sand. It was demonstrated by analyses based on the packing density. In the results of compressive strength and elastic modulus, even though river sand was not as good as micro silica sand, it could provide high strength of over 170 MPa and elastic modulus greater than 40 GPa. The difference in compressive strength depending on the size of river sand was explained with the concept of maximum paste thickness based on the packing density of aggregate. The flexural performance with river sand also presented relatively lower resistance than micro silica sand, and the reduction was greater with larger particle size of river sand. The flexural performance was proven to be also influenced by the difference in the fiber orientation distribution due to the size of river sand.

3차원 Volume PIV의 개발 (Development of 3-D Volume PIV)

  • A Process of 3-D Particle image velocimetry, called here, as '3-D volume PIV' was developed for the full-field measurement of 3-D complex flows. The present method includes the coordinate transformation from image to camera, calibration of camera by a calibrator based on the collinear equation, stereo matching of particles by the approximation of the epipolar lines, accurate calculation of 3-D particle positions, identification of velocity vectors by 3-D cross-correlation equation, removal of error vectors by a statistical method followed by a continuity equation criterior, and finally 3-D animation as the post processing. In principle, as two frame images only are necessary for the single instantaneous analysis 3-D flow field, more effective vectors are obtainable contrary to the previous multi-frame vector algorithm. An Experimental system was also used for the application of the proposed method. Three analog CCD camera and a Halogen lamp illumination were adopted to capture the wake flow behind a bluff obstacle. Among 200 effective particle s in two consecutive frames, 170 vectors were obtained averagely in the present study.

Nd-Fe-B계 소결자석의 이방화율 향상을 위한 연구 (A Study for Magnetic Orientation Enhancement in Nd-Fe-B Sintered Magnets)

  • Axial pressing process를 이용하여 31RE-68TM-1B(RE : 희토류원소, TM: 3d천이금속) 조성을 갖는 소결자석을 제조함에 있어서 Casting process와 Lubricant 변화에 따른 잔류자속밀도 변화를 조사하였다. 출발합금 제조방법으로서 Strip casting process는 $\alpha$-Fe 편석없이 미세하고, 균일한 microstructure를 얻기에 용이한 잇점이 있었으며, Jet mill 이후 균일한 입도의 분말을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, Jet mill 전후에 적절한 분말 혹은 무수알콜과 같은 Lubricant를 첨가함으로써 잔류자속밀도를 향상시킬 수 있었다. 본 실험에서는 Strip casting 및 분말 Lubrican인 Zn-st(Zinc stearate)에 첨가에 의한 분말입도분포 개선효과와 무수알콜에 의한 배향율 향상효과를 접목하여 잔류자속밀도, 보자력 및 최대자기에너지적이 각각 13.1 kG, 13.5 kOe 및 39.5 MGOe인 경자기특성이 얻어졌다.

고상압출로 제조된 폴리프로필렌/탄산칼슘 복합재료의 물성에 미치는 배향의 영향 (Effects of Orientation on Properties of Solid-State Extruded Polypropylene/Calcium Carbonate Composites)

  • 본 논문에서는 고상압출된 폴리프로필렌/탄산칼슘 복합재료의 배향 전후의 비중, 열적 및 기계적 물성의 변화에 대해 연구하였다. 본 연구를 위해 두 가지 다른 크기를 갖는 탄산칼슘 충진제(OM-1 및 OM-10)를 폴리프로필렌에 첨가하여 폴리프로필렌/탄산칼슘 복합재료를 제조하였다. 충진제의 함량이 증가할수록 복합재료의 비중이 증가하였는데, 배향된 복합재료의 비중은 배향되지 않은 복합 재료에 비해 작은 것으로 나타났으며 이는 배향에 따라 발생된 미세공극으로 기인한 것이다. 배향 시 발생하는 이 미세공극은 복합재료의 인장 및 굴곡 물성에 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 굴곡강도 및 굴곡 탄성률에 미치는 배향의 영향은 충진제의 입자 크기에 상관없이 충진제의 함량의 영향보다 더 강한 것으로 나타났다.

광탄성 기법을 이용한 얕은 기초 하중을 받는 입상체의 응력 및 변위장 측정 (Measurement of Stress and Displacement Fields in Particle Assembly subjected to Shallow Foundation Loading via Photoelasticity Technique)

  • 본 논문의 목적은 얕은 기초 하중을 받는 입상체 내의 응력의 분포와 변위를 측정하는 광탄성 기법의 적용 방안을 제시하는 데 있다. 광탄성 측정기법은 입자 집합체의 힘 전달을 시각화하기 위해 사용 되었다. 실내 모형시험은 스틸 프레임으로 경계면을 만들고 폴리카보네이트 탄성중합체로 만들어진 이차원 원형 입자들을 적층하여 구성하였다. 광탄성 시트를 원형 입자에 코팅함으로써 힘 전달의 패턴을 밝은 빛의 줄무늬 형태로 확인할 수 있었고, 광탄성 측정 기법을 통해 접촉되어 있는 입자들에서의 주 응력차의 크기, 방향 또한 측정 할 수 있었다. 변위장은 디지털 이미지 해석 기법을 사용하여 측정 하였다. 하중 재하 초기 상태와 파괴 근처의 상태에서 서로 다른 접촉력의 분포를 정량적으로 분석하였다. 파괴 이전 단계에서 관측된 광탄성 패턴과 변위장은 접촉력 사슬의 좌굴 발생 이후 즉시 사라짐을 확인하였다.

자기테이프용 Metal Powder의 초음파 분산에 의한 자기적 특성 향상에 관한 연구 (Study on Magnetic Property Enhancement of Metal Powders for Magnetic Tape by Using Ultrasonic Dispersion)

  • It was investigated the effect of ultrasonic treatment on magnetic property of ultra fine magnetic Fe powders ($\alpha$-Fe) for magnetic tape. The properties were characterized with vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), particle size analyzer (PSA) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). At 4hours ultrasonic treatment of 70 kHz, magnetic properties such as squareness ratio (S.Q. : 0.8868), orientation ratio (O.R. : 2.45) and switching field distribution (S.F. D. : 0.394) before taping were relatively enhanced. Cumulative particle size distribution of less than 5$\mu\textrm{m}$ fine powder was above 90% below 1 hour leaving time after ultrasonic treatment and it was supposed that ultrasonic treatment prevent aggregation. The magnetic values of S.Q. and S.F.D. of tape manufactured at 70 kHz and 4hour ultrasonic treatment were improved from 0.7747, 0.3818 to 0.8037, 0.3706, respectively. Electro-magnetic property used as in-output signal characteristic was improved, which showed that ultrasonic treatment developed the magnetic properties.

저서성 대형무척추동물의 서식 특성에 따른 미소서식처 유형화 (Classification of Microhabitats based on Habitat Orientation Groups of Benthic Macroinvertebrate Communities)

  • Many restoration projects are underway to revive disturbed streams. In order to achieve successful stream restoration, a variety of microhabitats should be created to promote biological diversity. Research on biological classification of microhabitats is essential for biological diversity. However, research on classification using only physical environmental factors has been carried out. The purpose of this study is to classify and quantify the microhabitat of the stream by using macroinvertebrates systematically. In this study, eight wadeable streams and four non-wadeable streams were surveyed to identify the benthic macroinvertebrates in these various microhabitats. Among the physical environmental factors (current velocity, water depth, substrate), the particle size of the substrate was the most influential factor in the emergence of the Habitat Orientaion Groups. Among the HOGs, clinger and burrower were highly correlated with physical environment factors and showed the opposite tendency. The distribution of clinger and burrower according to the physical environmental factors showed two tendencies based on the current velocity (0.3 m/s) and water depth (0.4 m). In addition, the particle size of the substrate showed three trends (${\leq}-5.0$, -5.0 < mean diameter ${\leq}-2.0$, > -2.0). Based on the abundance tendency of these two HOGs, the microhabitats were classified into nine types, from a eupotamic microhabitat to a lentic microhabitat. Classification of the microhabitats using HOGs can be employed for creating microhabitats to promote biological diversity in future stream restoration plans.

입자크기에 따른 SnO2:Ni 가스센서의 감응 특성 (Effect of the Particle Size of SnO2:Ni on Gas Sensing Properties)

  • Ni 8 wt.%-doped tin oxide ($SnO_2$) thick films were fabricated into gas sensors by the method of screen printing onto alumina substrates. The particle size of $SnO_2$ was controlled by changing the ball-mill time between 0~120 h. The structural and morphological properties of these thick films were investigated using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The structural properties of $SnO_2$ powders showed a tetragonal phase with (110) dominant orientation. The particle size of the $SnO_2$:Ni powders after ball-mill of 120 h was about 0.05 ${\mu}m$. The gas sensitivity (S = Rg/Ra) to 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was measured at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air (Ra) with that of the target gases (Rg). The sensitivity of the $SnO_2$ gas sensors was enhanced by increasing the ball-mill time. There was an association between the sensitivity of both the $CH_4$ gas and the $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas and the particle size of the $SnO_2$. $SnO_2$ gas sensors prepared by 72 h ball-mill showed a sensitivity of about 13 to 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas. The response time of the $SnO_2$:Ni gas sensors to the $CH_4$ gas was about 20 seconds.

Orientation Control of Polyoxometalate Nanoparticles in Organic- Inorganic Hybrid LB Films

  • Orientation control of a polyoxometalate (POM) nanoparticle in its two-dimensional arrangement was attempted by Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique. For their uniorientation, two carboxyl groups were introduced on one side of the POM particle, and hydrophobic long chains were attached by esterification with the carboxyl groups (C18-POM). The C18-POM layer spread on water surface showed stability against surface pressure up to 60 mN/m. The pattern of the C18-POM isotherm was quite different from stearyl alcohol (C18-OH), while the POM itself did not show any development of surface pressure on water surface. The AFM images of C18-POM LB films showed some microcrystalline structures that were noticed as dot structures by Brewster angle microscopy. The microimages for C18-POM did not completely spread out as a monolayer on the water surface. The XPS spectra indicated the presence of POM structures and stearyl ester bonds formed from about 65% of the total carboxyls. The XRD spectra showed that the unioriented POMs were not positioned with the same lattice distance but rather in a wavy surface state.

Simulation of the tensile behaviour of layered anisotropy rocks consisting internal notch

  • In this paper, the anisotropy of tensile behaviours of layered rocks consisting internal notch has been investigated using particle flow code. For this purpose, firstly calibration of PFC2D was performed using Brazilian tensile strength. Secondly Brazilian test models consisting bedding layer was simulated numerically. Thickness of layers was 10 mm and layered angularity was $90^{\circ}$, $75^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}$. The strength of bedding interface was too high. Each model was consisted of one internal notch. Notch length is 1 cm, 2 cm and 4 cm and notch angularities are $60^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $15^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}$. Totally, 90 model were tested. The results show that failure pattern was affected by notch orientation and notch length. It's to be noted that layer angle has not any effect on the failure pattern. Also, Brazilian tensile strength is affected by notch orientation and notch length.
