  • We have studied that the secondary electron emission characteristics of functional layers which have different kinds of MgO sub-micrometer size powder in AC-PDP. We used cathodoluminescence(CL) and gamma focused ion beam (${\gamma}$-FIB) system for measurement of secondary electron emission characteristics. Also we made 6 inch test panel which applied functional layers for evaluation of discharge characteristics.

  • This paper addresses the problem of real-time tracking a high-speed ballistic target. Particle filters can be considered to overcome the nonlinearity in motion and measurement models in the ballistic target. However, it is difficult to apply particle filters to real-time systems because particle filters generally require much computation time. This paper proposes an accelerated particle filter using graphics processing unit (GPU) for real-time ballistic target tracking. The real-time performance of the proposed method was tested and analyzed on a widely-used embedded system. The comparison results with the conventional particle filter on CPU (central processing unit) showed that the proposed method improved the real-time performance by reducing computation time significantly.

  • We present the first measurement of the angular two-point correlation function for AKARI $90{\mu}m$ point sources, detected outside of the Milky Way plane and selected as candidates for extragalactic sources. This is the first measurement of the large-scale angular clustering of galaxies selected in the far-infrared after IRAS. We find a positive clustering signal in both hemispheres extending up to ~ 40 degrees, without any significant fluctuations at larger scales. The observed correlation function is well fitted by a power law function. However, southern galaxies seem to be more strongly clustered than northern ones and the difference is statistically significant. The reason for this difference - technical or physical - is still to be found.

  • In this paper measurement method of uranium isotope ratio of uranium-bearing particles in swipe samples was introduced; Swipe sample screening program was proposed on the basis of studying various destructive assay and non-destructive assays. Scanning electron microscope(SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence(XRF) system was applied to locate the deposited uranium-containing particles on the graphite support, particle's composition and size can be identified. Some isotope ratio results were compared with those of other bulk analytical methods; By measuring the same prepared sample, we got the U-particle isotopic ratio data similar to those from IAEA NWAL, indicating that our operation parameters and experimental conditions are viable and can be used for measurement of U-particle isotopic ratio from swipe samples.

  • The process variables for the manufacture of translucent microemulsion prepared with 2-octyl dodecanol, 12-hydroxy stearic acid cholesteryl , POE(40)HCO and 1,3-butandiol were examined initially (primary emulsion) and following aging for three months. The techniques empolyed in this study were particle size, turbidity, interfacial tension and microfluidizer. Particle size analysis and turbidity measurement to evaluate the emulsion stability were used. It was concluded that the process of the emulsification was an important indicator of the stability of the translucent microemulsion. From the particle size and and turbidity measurement of translucent microemulsion, adding the surfactant to the oil phase before the emulsification was found to be the most important factor for the stability of emulsions. We found that interfacial tension of the adding the surfactant to the oil phase is lower than that of the adding the surfactant to aqueous phase. In spite of hydrophilic surfactant, adding the surfactant to aqueous phase produced inferior emulsion to that to oil phase.

  • A three-dimensional inlet flow structure inside a microfluidic element has been investigated using a micro-PIV(particle image velocimetry) measurement as well as a numerical analysis. The present study employs a state-of-art micro-PIV system which consists of epi-fluorescence microscope, 620nm diameter fluorescent seed particles and an 8-bit megapixel CCD camera. For the numerical analysis, a commercial software CFD-ACE+(V6.6) was employed for comparison with experimental data. Fixed pressure boundary condition and a 39900 structured grid system was used for numerical analysis. Velocity vector fields with a resolution of $6.7{\times}6.7{\mu}m$ has been obtained, and the attention has been paid on the effect of varying measurement conditions of particle diameter and particle concentration on the resulting PIV results. In this study, the microfluidic elements were fabricated on plastic chips by means of MEMS processes and a subsequent melding process.

  • A micro-PIV(particle image velocimetry) measurement has been conducted to investigate flow fields in such microfluidic devices as microchannels and micronozzle. The present study employs a state-of-art micro-PIV system which consists of epi-fluorescence microscope, 620nm diameter fluorescent seed particles and an 8-bit megapixel CCD camera. Velocity vector fields with a resolution of $6.7\times6.7{\mu}m$ has been obtained, and the attention has been paid on the effect of varying measurement conditions of particle diameter and particle concentration on the resulting PIV results.
