  • Inorganic ions and water are major components of ambient fine particles. Water content in fine particles is mainly determined by ambient meteorological conditions and the concentrations of hygroscopic species such as inorganic ions. Thus, to reduce fine particle mass concentration, it is important to accurately estimate the relationship between water content and the concentration of ions in fine particles. Water content in fine particles in Seoul are estimated by using a gas/particle equilibrium model to understand the characteristics of fine particle mass concentration. In addition, sensitivity of fine particle mass concentration to the changes of particulate ionic species (sulfate, nitrate, and ammonium) is estimated. It was found that water content in Seoul is mostly determined by the concentrations of the hygroscopic ionic species, especially, sulfate and ammonium, and ambient relative humidity.

  • TiN coating were deposited onto different WC-Co substrates using arc ion plating (AIP) technique. The structure and morphology for the deposited coating were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The adhesion behavior of the deposited TiN coating was investigated with a conventional scratch test. Effects of WC particle size and Co content on the adhesion strength between the deposited TiN coating and substrate were studied. During the scratch test, the value of critical load was dependent of WC particle size and Co content on substrate. As the WC particle size and Co content on substrate decreased, the critical load increased. The highest critical load, approximately 110N, was obtained at WC particle size of 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ and Co content of 10wt.%.

  • The influence of the particle size of quartz and the change of cooling rate to the strength of conventional triaxial porcelain was studied, . The results indicate that 1. The residual quartz content was increased by particle size increasing. And the strength was increased by increas-ing residual quartz content which increased the total stress in the specimen. But the influence of residual quartz was lessened by the extent of crack between quartz particle and glass matrix 2. In order to increase the strength of the body fast cooling is suitable to small quartz particle and slow cooling is suitable to large quartz particle.

  • Effects of Ca content on the refinement of primary Si of Aluminum B390 alloy have been examined. Ca was found to have an effect on the refinement of primary Si particle. Primary Si particle size has been refined as Ca content of the melts decreased and cooling rate increased. A control of Ca content by the addition of $CuCl_2$ to the melt was the most efficient in the refinement of primary Si particles. The minimum size of primary Si particles in this study was $15.0\;{\mu}m$ when a residual content of Ca element in the alloy was 5ppm, Primary Si particle size was refined as primary Si crystallization temperature increased, which was attributed to the decrease of Ca content in the melts.

  • Recently in the domestic construction industry, source depletion has resulted in instances of ready-mixed concrete companies using river sand or crushed sand with high fine particle content. But the use of such low-quality fine aggregate is known to cause concrete quality to decline and have negative effects. So this study analyzed how much of an impact changes in fine particle content have on cement mortar's engineering characteristics. As a result, the flow rate and air quantity, which are characteristics of unhardened mortar, were shown to decrease as fine particle content increased, and compression strength, a characteristic of light mortar, was shown to subtly increase as fine particle content decreased.

  • Seven rice varietes(Suweonjo, Suweon232 , BG276-5, IR44, IR41999-139, Suweon230 and Yongjubyeo) were used to study the influence of amylose content and particle size on the physicochemical properties of rice flours. Suweonjo has the highest amylose content (27.1% amylose content) had the finest flour particle as supproted by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Suweonjo had the highest value in hardness of rice grain but the lowest length/width ration. There were no significant differences in color values among the rice flours. Data of brabender visco/amylograph was not associated with amylose content. Yongjubyeo had the highest maximum viscosity and breakdown value while Suweonjo had the lowest maximum viscosity , setback value and breakdown value. Yongjubyeo had the lowest water solubility index (WSI). The Suweon232 rice variety absorbed more water than any other varieties but rice varieties and amylose contents affected water absorption a little.

  • Major factors affecting the impact resistance of high impact polystyrene (HIPS), the rubber-toughened grade of polystyrene, are rubber-phase particle size and size distribution, molecular weight, morphology, and degree of grafting. Accordingly, it is important to control or investigate these factors. In this study, the effect of solvent content was analyzed by the morphology and particle size distribution of rubber phase, and final properties in bulk-solution polymerization of HIPS. The prepolymerization time was, first, determined by measuring the evolution of particle size distribution of dispersed phase to explain the phase inversion with time. As the solvent content increased, the size of rubber particle increased and then gradually decreased. Rubber-phase morphology was likely to have higher degree of grafting as the solvent content increased. Rheological and mechanical properties decreased as the solvent content increased because of the decrease of matrix molecular weight due to the chain transfer reaction to solvent and the existence of residual solvent. Nevertheless, the impact resistance seemed to increase when the rubber particle size increased.

  • The study was conducted to investigate the effect of particle size on the physicochemical properties of egg yolk-rice porridge. The pH of egg yolk-rice porridge was decreased when compared to that of the control, while the lightness and yellowness was increased as the rice particle size increased. The viscosity of whole particle egg yolk porridge was highest among the three porridges at $40^{\circ}C$. The protein content of the egg yolk-rice porridge was increased three-fold, when compared to that of the rice porridges. The total amino acid content of egg yolk-rice porridge was 1,500.6 mg/100 g, while that of rice was 1,147.5 mg/100 g. The Lys and Thr content of the amino acid content of egg yolk-rice porridge were also increased. Sensory evaluation results revealed that the half particle size rice egg yolk-rice porridge had the highest scores in color, taste and over-all preference. Based on these results, the half particle size egg yolk-porridge had good quality with respect to both the physicochemical and nutritional properties.

  • In this study, sediment cores from unvegetated tidal flats in the Hampyeong Bay (west coastal wetland) and Dongdae Bay (south coastal wetland) were sampled, the blue carbon stock in the sediments was calculated, and the characteristics of the blue carbon stock were analyzed based on particle size of the sediments. The sediments in the Hampyeong Bay tidal flat had large particle size and low mud content, and the Dongdae bay tidal flat had small particle size and high mud content. The organic carbon content and blue carbon stock in the sediments were higher in the Dongdae tidal flat than in the Hampyeong Bay tidal flat. As a result of the regression function, in both the Hampyeong Bay and Dongdae Bay tidal flats, the sediments had the smaller particle size and higher mud contents the higher the organic carbon content and blue carbon stock. The sediments with smaller particle size had the larger specific surface area, so were feasible to adsorb and store more organic matters.

  • Waterborne polyurethane(WPU) is greatly affected by its properties depending on the average particle size. In this study, by analyzing the characteristics of WPUs with different average particle sizes according to the DMPA content and we confirmed that the WPU-Ms have different properties from the physical properties of WPU by mixing two types of WPU with different particle sizes in the same volume. At this time, we mixed WPU at an ideal ratio of 7:3 through literature research. In the thermal characteristic analysis, it was confirmed that the thermal decomposition temperature decreased and Tg increased as the content of DMPA, which is the hard segment, increased. In addition, the average particle size of WPU decreased as DMPA increased, and physical properties and adhesive strength were improved due to increased interaction. When mixed with each other in a weight ratio of 7:3, it was observed that adhesion and mechanical properties were improved compared to only WPU.
