  • The conventional boundaries between art and technology are being torn down by the development of science in the 21st century. It is fulfilling the convergence to emphasize two-way communication. This research is to study the aesthetic experience of the space design which appeared in the playful space of art and technology. The purpose of this study is to analyze the expression and characteristics of the art and technology applied for the playful space, to present the intrinsic value of aesthetic experience, and finally to focus on the necessity of aesthetic experience in modern society. In the Playful space of art and technology, research methods and settings of the range to study the aesthetic experience are as follows: First, establish a theoretical consideration about the concept and characteristics of the aesthetic experience, based on Philosophical theories. Second, analyze the meaning of art and the expression elements and characteristics by using technology. Third, discuss the concept of play and features of aesthetic experience in the playful space. Fourth, investigate analysis of the case studies, focused on the architecture and space design announced through the media recently. Finally, proposes the value for the applicability of aesthetic experience that appears playful space works affect us. I saw the aesthetic experience that appears playful space independent reaction and lead to behavioral changes and physical experience to maximize the effectiveness of participation. and it is to maximize a pleasurable experience, while increasing the commitment to participate in the space. Expressions using art and technology are activated by stimulation of the emotional experience, creating a new aesthetic experience. In the modern, the new environment is being created by the convergence of art and technology and it stimulates the imagination of art. • The outdoor space of an elementary school is the most familiar and most educational area for children. A paradigm shift in education has demanded a new role and direction for these outdoor spaces. The construction of children-friendly spaces, however, lags behind. The child-participatory design process is very meaningful at a time when many outdoor spaces have difficulties in reflecting the varied and specific demands of children. This study realized the necessity for a design that includes a child-participatory design process in construction the outdoor spaces of elementary schools. Through reference study and a theoretical approach of related laws, this study established a child-participatory design process model and applied it to Seoul Don-Am Elementary School. The design process included playing games and providing interesting tools to increase the participation of children in suggesting and presenting their opinions more freely. The design process of this study is described in five steps(eliciting interest in and recognition of the target space, Understanding children's expectations and the expressing thereof, Establishing factors for planning, Visualizing and arranging spaces, and Decision-making and building a final design plan). This process was applied to the planning and design of an outdoor space for Seoul Don-Am Elementary School. In this study, it is clear that the design of the participators and experts have a different purpose. Thus, the process of the design has more meaning than the final product. In addition, it is expected that an improvement in both tangible and intangible designs will be seen. Using a participatory design process, this study successfully improved the facilities and arrangement planning of an outdoor space. At the same time, it also enhanced the interest and participation of children in the process of creating the kind of school they desire. The significance of this study is that it has suggested an effective model to reflect the demands of children, the true users of the outdoor space, and the results were actually applied to elementary school outdoor planning and designing. This study enhanced the awareness of school members in the process of building the school's outdoor space.

  • This study emphasizes users' participation, a living-transforming visuality, as users have appeared to be a central element of landscape design but ignored before. Also this study tries to propose meaning of extended visuality in contemporary landscape design on the basis of visual criticism on simple perception-and contemplations convention-based landscape design. For these purposes, this study reviews characteristics of visual changes appeared in modern reductionist paintings. In other words, arts can be interpreted in polysemous ways through bodies' experience. Deconstructive concepts derived from the theoretical reviews can be categorized into three including the participation of the users' bodies from a contemplative point of view, textuality and intertextuality, and experiences from works. Those concepts were used to criticize the previous discourse on landscape designs and to analyze various issues in the theories, themes and techniques in contemporary landscape design. The significance of the expanded visuality in contemporary landscape design is that it brings the users' voluntary participation. This structure can serve as a tool to obtain the users' perceptive effects. At the same time, it can be regarded as a process of establishing the relationships between the users and the works. Thus emphasis is placed not only on the influences of the effects structure of the works themselves, but also on the many different dimensions related to the users' bodies. It implies that the meaning of design is not determined by the designer but a product resulted from the voluntary relationships between users and works. These findings lead to ambiguous distinctions between arts everyday life, and eventually to the end of the concepts of formative dichotomous aesthetics and their effectiveness. Finding of this study call for not only redefining the space where landscape design is created and communicated, but also reconsidering the concepts of landscape design and its ontological meanings.

  • The sense of place at school environment becomes more important as children increasingly spend more time in school and children's attachment to the environment affects the cognition development of children. The goal of this research is to identify characteristics that enhance the sense of place for children in outdoor space and check the possibilities of forming it in the school environments. Through the analysis of design document and design report for schematic design of elementary school which is executed through Korean Institute of Educational Facilities between 2002-2005, 47cases from 32elementary schools are analyzed. As a result it is found that designers tend to orient towards the visual aspects compared to other invisible aspects such as thermal comfort and participation of children, which is extracted as a key characteristics of forming a sense of place for children. More attention is required to enhance the sense of place in school environment to support the child development in everyday space.

  • The planning and design of healthcare architecture generally requires the participation and consultation of skilled experts since it has more complex space program than any other buildings. Therefore, the computer-based expert systems for the planning of healthcare architecture have been tried continuously. The recent development of BIM technologies and object-oriented CAAD systems is leading these attempts to realize gradually. Thus, this study attempts to verify whether the new evaluation model and system of the spatial layout, which are based on the validation of space program that developed in earlier studies, are applicable to real examples of design competition. Through this simulation, this study tries to find the possibility of expert systems for the planning of healthcare architecture and act as basic data for the development of new system for the integrated design environment based on BIM technologies in the near future.

  • This is a study regarding the efforts of the Gyong-gi Newtown Citizen Academy in Anyang Man-an Newtown and their role in shaping the urban design of their living environment. Our goal is to gauge how citizen participation may factor into the design process, from the early stages to the end result. The Newtown Academy diverged from the existing methods of a lecture centered approach to one that encouraged direct participation from the local citizens. We analyze the process and manner in which they drew up the plans. Our research focused on the winning proposal from the 2010 Citizen Academy Design competition, entitled 'Coexistence with Nature, Culture, History, Human - Eco-Cycle Man-an'. The Man-an team conducted regional analyses to come up with their own alternatives that would allow culture, leisure and nature to coexist in the space of their targeted area. The Newtown redevelopment promotion district reflected the actual implementation of the Man-an team's design. This study examines an urban design process in which citizens become directly involved, which presents the possibilities and directions of an urban design that is public and resident-oriented, in nature.
