  • Stator coil of rotating machinery has shown different characteristics according to impregnated with coil or not. And this is major determinant of equipment's life. In this paper, PD characteristics is studied as a classification scheme between two specimens. Processing of the coil impregnation is very important thing because that influences on thermal and electrical characteristics of the coil. And then PD is occurring at the coil and causing insulation degradation. For processing statistical processing, PD data acquired from PD detector using PDASDA(partial discharge acquisition, storage and display system). And also these statistical distribution and parameter are applied to classify PD sources by neural networks. As a result of, Neural Networks have a good discrimination rate for classification PD sources.

  • It is very difficult and dangerous to measure partial discharge from high voltage equipment in outdoor situation. But that is very important thing for preventing serious accidents from defects which originated in insulating degradation. This paper provides useful method to detect PD signals easily without any dangerous situation. Electric field sensor by the principle of capacitor detect PD signals without direct electrical connection between sensor and high power equipment and has very wide frequency range suitable for noise rejection. Electric field sensor and related circuit for processing PD signal showed good performance as a PD sensor when it is applied to simulated high power equipment generating PD pulse.

  • XLPE is used to insulator for Ultra High Voltage power cable. It is easy to processing also has a good insulating property. The study for diagnosis of lifetime and improvement is proceeding continuously. In this paper, it is investigated partial discharge distribution according to slope of needle electrode 0, 20, $40^{\circ}$. Applied voltage is 0.5 [kV/s] by step form for inception voltage. As the result of study, we conformed that increase of slope led to reduce of discharge number and total discharge quantity.

  • Recently diagnostic techniques have been investigated to detect a partial discharge(PD) associated with a dielectric material defect in a high-voltage electrical apparatus. Among the PD measuring method, detecting electromagnetic wave generated by PD is one of the most effective method because PD radiates wide frequency of electromagnetic wave up to UHF. From the above points of view, we have investigated the polarization and distance characteristics of electromagnetic wave radiated by an insertion of solid insulators between needle-plane electrodes in the air. According to the magnitude of applied voltage, the frequency spectrum of radiated electromagnetic waves were increased about under 100(MHz), compared with background noise. The electromagnetic wave magnitude is attenuated about 4$\sim$7.6[dB] at the point 3[m] away from PD.

  • In this paper, As the wavelet transform has the properties of multi-resolution analysis and time-frequency domain localization, application of wavelet transform is used at partial discharge(PD) signal detected by electromagnetic wave detection method to extract PD signal's various frequency component and its time domain. therefore we can analyzed PD signal's time-frequency domain simultaneously. On the other hand, using wavelet transform denoising process, inclued noise signal in detected PD signal is well elimiated. we can propose the true shape of PD signal.

  • This paper describes investigations of the UHF(Ultra High Frequency) PD(Partial Discharge) measuring technology designed for monitoring of PD in high power apparatus. Based on the spiral antenna theory, the hole type sensor for GIS with metal flange spacer and injection type sensor for oil filled transformer are developed. The experimental results show measurement characteristics of the PD sensor for several artificial defects in gas-insulated system(GIS) and oil transformer. Moreover, we proposed the new $\phi$-f-q method for the purpose of condition assessment of high power apparatus.

  • The recognition of PD(Partial Discharge) phenomenon is useful for classification of defects. The distribution of stochastic parameters which consisted of those PD pulses data and pulses train can show discriminable characteristics of PD sources. But it is not sufficient to discriminate among to PD sources. In this paper, we suggests that classification method of PD source by NN(Neural Networks) are good tools for differentiate of those. The learning scheme of NN is (Back Propagation learning algorithm(BP).

  • In prevention and diagnostic system of GIS, pattern classification is focused on the detection of unnatural patterns in PD(Partial discharge) image data. Fractals have been used extensively to provide a description and to model mathematically many of the naturally occurring complex shapes, such as coastlines, mountain ranges, clouds, etc., and have also received increased attention in the field of image processing, for purposes of segmentation and recognition of regions and objects present in natural scenes. Among the numerous fractal features that could be defined and used for image data, fractal dimension and lacunarity have been found to be useful for recognition purposes Partial discharge(PD) occuring in GIS system is a very complex phenomenon, and more so are the shapes of the various 2-d patterns obtained during routine tests and measurements. It has been fairly well established that these pattern shapes and underlying defects causing PD have a 1:1 correspondence, and therefore methods to describe and qunatify these pattern shapes must be explored, before recognition systems based on them could be developed. The computed fractal features(fractal dimension and lacunarity) for standard library of PD data were analyzed and found to possess fairly reasonable pattern discriminating abilities. This new approach appears promising, and further research is essential before any long-term predictions can be made.

  • Partial discharge(PD) test can be performed either when the rotating machine is not operating(off-line) or during normal machine operation(on-line). This paper presents an on-line and off-line PD test on a large hydro-generator and induction motor using the same PD acquisition system(PDAS) and ceramic coupler(CC) sensor. PD signal characteristics of CC sensor proved similar with that of epoxy mica coupler(EMC) sensor as a results of PD test for simulated defect winding and frequency response test. A comparison of on-line and off-line PD test for PD characteristic parameters-phase resolved PD(PRPD), maximum PD value(Qmax) and PD occurrence energy(POE)-indicated that on-line PD test could reliably and effectively diagnose insulation conditions which were verified by off-line PD test.

  • This paper discusses several electrical properties of tape-type insulation impregnated with liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) in superconducting cable. Synthetic polypropylene laminated paper has been tested for its short-term breakdown strength and partial discharge(PD) characteristics under AC voltage. furthermore, the effect of winding parameter on breakdown strength, PD incepti on and extinction electrical stress with different test samples are discussed.
