Objectives The purpose of this case was to report significant improvement of abdominal pain, constipation and a slight improvement of tremor after treatment by Sasang Constitutional Medicine to the patient with Parkinson's disease.Methods The patient was diagnosed as Soyangin according to the result of Sasang constitutional diagnosis, and treated by Sasang constitutional medications and acupuncture. The progress was evaluated with the Global Assessment Scale (GAS).Results The abdominal pain was reduced from Numeric Rating Scale (NRS)9 to NRS1 and headache was reduced from NRS5 to NRS3. The tremor was reduced to GAS 10. Unified Parkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) was reduced from 40 to 27. The difference of heat distribution between left and right side was reduced and the abdomen was more warmer on Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging (DITI).Conclusions Sasang constitutional medicine can be a solution for the non motor symptoms caused by Parkinson's disease.

Tremor refers to rhythmic shaking of a body part. Tremor is a symptom of many disorders, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, orthostatic tremor, cerebellar disease, peripheral neuropathy and alcohol withdrawal. Tremors may be classified as postural, rest or action tremors. Symptomatic treatment is tailored to the tremor type. Because Dansambohyul-tang has been used to treat patients differentiated with an insufficiency of the heart and the spleen(心脾兩虛) in oriental medicine, we treated a 78 year-old female patient who suffered from tremor in mouth, chin and hand and insomnia, with improvement of general condition, who was differentiated with an insufficiency of the heart and the spleen(心脾兩虛) with Dansambohyul-tang, herb complex. After 78 days of treatment with Dansambohyul-tang and some other herb complex, we observed improvement of tremor, insomnia and general condition So Dansambohyul-tang shows therapeutic effects on tremor.

Essential tremor(ET) is the most common movement disorder however there has been little agreement in the neurologic literature regarding diagnostic criteria for ET. Familial ET is an autosomal dominant disorder presenting as an isolated postural tremor. The main feature of ET is postural tremor of the arms with later involvement of the head, voice, or legs. In previous studies, it was reported that ET susceptibility was inherited in an autosomal dominant inheritance. As with previous results, it would suggest that ET might be associated with defect of mitochondrial or nuclear DNA. Recent studies are focusing molecular genetic detection of movement disorders, such as essential tremor and restless legs syndrome. Parkinson's disease(PD) is a neurodegenerative disease involving mainly the loss of dopaminergic neurons in substantia nigra by several factors. The cause of dopaminergic cell death is unknown. Recently, it has been suggested that Parkinson's disease many result from mitochondrial dysfunction. The authors have analysed mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) from the blood cell of PD and ET patients via long and accurate polymerase chain reaction(LA PCR). Blood samples were collected from 9 PD and 9 ET patients. Total DNA was extracted twice with phenol followed by chloroform : isoamylalcohol. For the analysis of mtDNA, LA PCR was performed by mitochondrial specific primers. With LA PCR, 1/3 16s rRNA~1/3 ATPase 6/8 and COI~3/4 ND5 regions were observed in different patterns. But, in the COI~1/3 ATPase 6/8 region, the data of PCR were observed in same pattern. This study supports the data that ET and PD are genentic disorders with deficiency of mitochondrial DNA multicomplexes.

The carotid artery is one of the main vessels supplying blood to the brain. Carotid artery stenosis is mostly caused by atherosclerosis, a disease where cholesterol is deposited in the arterial blood vessels. Tremor refers to rhythmic shaking of a body part. Tremor is a symptom of many diseases, including Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, orthostatic tremor, cerebellar disease, peripheral neuropathy, and alcohol withdrawal. Tremors may be classified as postural, rest, and action tremors. Tremor of a patient with stenosis of the left carotid artery decreased with acupuncture treatment. The acupoints were GB20, TE17, GV8 and GV11. This case shows that the acupuncture treatment is effective against tremor.

This review describes the overall knowledges of parkinson's disease. There are involved the causes. chemical characteristics, clinical features including tremor. bradykinesia, and rigidity. evaluation of movement disorders. and physical therapy of parkinson's disease. People who are diagnosed with parkinson's disease experience movement disorders that, if not managed, can lead to considerable disability. Before treated with parkinson's disease, it is important to recognise the pathogenesis of that. Then we need to develop physiotherapeutic programs based on the pathophysiology of parkinson's disease.

파킨슨병은 떨림, 느려진 움직임, 근육의 경직, 자세 불안정성, 보행장애 등의 특징을 나타내는 신경변성 질환으로 도파민과 같은 신경전달 물질이 고갈되어 생긴다. 이러한 파킨슨병의 특성으로 인해 환자들은 협조적으로 치과 치료를 받는 것이 어렵다. 본 증례에서는 만성 치주염이 있는 47세의 파킨슨병 환자에게 고정성 보철 및 임플란트 식립을 통한 전악구강수복을 시행하였고 기능적, 심미적으로 만족할만한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 손 조작능력의 저하와 같은 파킨슨병의 특성을 고려하여 짧은 간격의 주기적인 내원을 통한 관리가 필요할 것이다.

Objective: This clinical study aims to report the effect of acupuncture and moxibustion treatment in a patient with Parkinson's disease. Methods: The patient was treated with acupuncture totally eight times, which was applied at LU8, LR4, HT3, LR2, GV20, and GB20 and moxibustion at CV12, CV4. The effect of treatment was evaluated using the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). Results: After treatment the patient's UPDRS scores improved from 78 to 29 points after 28 days, and the patient's symptoms of tremor also improved. Conclusions: The Korean medicine treatment of acupuncture might be effective for Parkinson's disease.

Tremor is a main factor of parkinsonism. Voice tremor may be the first, later or the only symptom of a neurological disease and its frequency, amplitude, and regularity may differ among the diseases of different neural subsystems. Differential diagnosis between idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) and multiple system atrophy (MSA) has been difficult. This study included three groups: (1) 6 IPD patients; (2) 6 MSA patients; and (3) 20 ageand sex-matched normal controls. The MDVP (Multidimensional Voice Program) was used to analyze the sustained /a/phonation. The results were as follows: (1) frequency perturbation parameters (jitter, sPPQ, Vf0) and FTRI of tremor parameter of two patient groups were statistically different from those of the controls (p < .01); (2) measures were higher in short-term and long-term f0 and amplitude perturbation in MSA than IPD; (3) however, any acoustic parameters between IPD and MSA were not statistically different; except for the rate of frequency tremor, 4$\sim$5 Hz in IPD, 5$\sim$11 Hz in MSA and (4) the pattern of regularity for voice tremor through histogram indicated that amplitude of IPD was irregular while both f0 and amplitude of MSA were irregular. In conclusion, F0, rate of frequency tremor, and pattern of f0 regularity may be predictors for differential diagnosis. These findings might signify that voice tremor of parkinsonism was resulted from modulation of f0.

Objectives This study is about a "Taeumin" parkinson's disease patient with bradykinesia, tremor, weakness and dysautonomia etc. In this case, we evaluated the effect of Yuldahanso-tang gagam for parkinson's disease. Methods This patient was treated by Sasang constitutional herbal medication based on "Donguisusebowon". Acupuncture and west medications were used together. We evaluated the clinical progress through two methods, DITI(Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging) and VAS(Visual Analogue Scale). Results During 11months treatment, chief complaints and symptoms of this patient were improved. Conclusions This study shows that Yuldahanso-tang gagam is an effective treatment for "Taeumin" parkinson's disease patients.

Parkinson's disease is a slowly progressive degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. It is characterized by tremor when muscles are at rest, increased muscle tone, slowness of voluntary movements, and difficulty maintaining balance. In oriental medicine, these symptoms are diagnosed as yin(陰)-deficiency of liver and kidney, deficiency of qi(氣) and blood, retention of phlegm(痰), qi-stagnation and blood stasis. In this case, we diagnosed patients as deficiency of qi(氣) and blood type according to symptoms and treated by herbs that strengthen yang and benefiting yin for two weeks, while maintaining existing parkinson's western medication. After treatment, clinical symptoms were improved, while UPDRS (Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale) score was decreased. These cases suggest that oriental medicine therapy maybe effective in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
