As video games gain popularity and become a normal part of home entertainment, concern about youth access to inappropriate games continues to grow. Some people have claimed that violent video games influence children's aggressive behavior and that violent video games have some responsibility for violence in the school. In response to people's concerns, the video game industry created a video game rating system in 1995 to help parents decide which video games are appropriate for their children. This study investigated whether parents were aware of the video game rating system and how often they have used it when selecting video games for their children. This study attempted to find relationships among parents' attitudes toward video games, their guidance styles for their children's video game play, and their use of the video game rating system. This study found that most parents have used the video game ratings very frequently when they select video games for their children. But many parents still don't understand the video game rating system. This study showed that parents who had more negative attitudes or less positive attitudes toward video games were more likely to impose restrictions on their children's video game play and to use the video game rating system as a means to restrict their children's access to violent video games.
The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a nutritional education program for preschool children in association with Center for Children's Foodservice Management, childcare facilities and home in order to provide nutritional knowledge and change food attitudes in children. The program was repeated three times using the same educational theme and consisted three steps. Step 1 involved visiting education with teaching tools by a dietician. Step 2 involved home education with a worksheet and participating in events with parents. Step 3 involved repeated education with a textbook by a preschool teacher education reports sent to the center. The subjects of this study were 3 to 5-year-old children at 89 childcare facilities located in Busanjingu. Interest in meals at childcare facilities, dietary guidance for parents of children, and dietary attitudes of children were evaluated before and after education. Number of parents interested in meals managed by childcare facilities (kitchen visiting, meals observation, progress of children's education) increased after education. Mean scores for meal awareness in parents in the form of three questions (proper food distribution, hand washing before mealtime, nutritional and hygienic satisfaction with meals) significantly (p<0.05) increased after education. Mean dietary guidance for parents' scores for all questions except table manner significantly (p<0.01) increased after education. Mean dietary attitudes for children in the form of six questions (try to eat various vegetable, eat meals without leaving, wash hands before mealtime, eat cleanly, reduce sodium intake and keep table manner) also significantly (p<0.001) increased after education. As a results, the nutritional education program applied in this study, positive influenced children's nutritional knowledge and dietary attitudes, and parents' dietary guidance of children.
In this study, 354 college students responded to questionnaires on parental roles, and their parents' and their own attitudes about childrearing. Data were analyzed by SPSS. Findings were that most college students perceived instrumental reasons for becoming a parent, and the parental role as consultant and provision of financial support. Most college students thought that mothers and fathers gave equal responsibility for raising children, that information on childrearing is to be found among friends and other adults, and that pre-parenthood education is important. They perceived their own parents to be satisfied with their parental roles, and they perceived both their patents and themselves to hold favorable attitudes about childrearing. Students' attitudes about childrearing correlated positively with their perceptions about their parents' childrearing attitudes.
The purpose of this study is two fold: 1) To find out if perceived parental child-rearing attitudes have any relationship with sex of children and education of the parents. 2) To investigate how and what extent perceived parental child-rearing attitudes affect the sex-role traits of children. In order to pursue the above purposes, the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) and perceived parental child-rearing attitudes questionnaire were administerd to 127 6th elementary school children in Gwang Ju. For data analysis, such techniques as multiple regression and pearson correlation were applied. The results of this study are summarized as follows: 1) Both boys and girls perceived more positive attitudes by mothers than by fathers 2) Some effects of sex differences and education of parents were found in the perceived parental child-rearing attitudes and sex-role traits of children. 3) Perceived parental attitudes had significant effects on children's sex-role traits.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of parenting processes(parental support, monitoring, communication about sexuality) on college students' sexual attitudes and sexual behaviors. For this purpose, a survey was conducted using self-administered questionnaires with 361 college students. The results showed that both sexual attitudes and sexual behaviors were different according to sex, age, and dating period. In addition, sexual attitudes of males were correlated with father's support, mother's support and monitoring of parenting processes. It also found that the direct sexual behaviors were correlated with mother's support. Finally, results of multiple regression analysis showed that sex, parents' support, monitoring and communication about sexuality influenced sexual attitudes. Sex and parents' support had indirect influence on sexual behaviors. Experience of dating and communication about sex had direct influence on sexual behavior.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting credit card attitudes, financial management practices, and sound credit card use among college students, and to conceptualize a theoretical model. Earlier studies identified a number of antecedent variables (such as gender, year in college, job experience, amount of allowance, family income, living with parents, having taken a personal financial management course) and intervening variables (such as attitudes towards credit cards and financial management practices) as useful predictors of sound credit card practices. Four hundred and thirty four undergraduate students in Daejeon participated in this study. Stepwise multiple regression and path analysis were conducted. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Students' attitudes towards credit cards were affected by their you in college, whether they were living with their parents, and the amount of their allowance. Similarly, students' financial management practices were affected by their year in college, whether they were living with their parents, the amount of their allowance, and whether and not they had taken a personal financial management course. 2. Sound credit card practices were influenced by students' gender, their year in college, the amount of their allowance, attitudes towards credit cards, and financial management practices. 3. The path-analysis model demonstrates the relationships among the antecedent variables, intervening variables (credit card attitude, financial management practices), and sound credit card use.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to present a detailed view of the self-regulation of 5-year-old children based on parental attitudes and consistency. Methods: The research was conducted among 144 pairs of parents (288 people) of 5-year-old children residing in Seoul. Results: The resultsare as follows. First, with regards to self-regulation based on a child'sgenderand mother's parental attitudes, sub-factors such as parental attitudes and parental interaction were found to have significant effects on self-determination. Also,parental attitudes and parental interaction were found to have significant effects on the sub-factors of self-monitoring, such as self-evaluation and self-determination and the sub-factors of self-regulation, such as behavioral inhibition and emotionality. Second, the percentage of parents whose parental attitude was consistent at 58.3%, which is higher than the percentage of parents whose parenting attitude was inconsistent at 41.7%. The results of self-regulation were significantly higher when parental attitudes were consistent than when they were inconsistent. Conclusion/Implications: This research is significant in that it offered a concrete view of parental attitudes and consistency status that affect child's self-regulation.
Purpose: This study examined the relationship between sexual attitudes, sexual behaviors and self-esteem of male high school students in Busan. Method: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted. Data were collected from four male high schools in Busan. Two hundreds boys were enrolled in this study. Descriptive statistics, t-test or ANOVA with Scheffe's test and Pearson's Correlation Coefficients were used for data analysis. Results: The mean sexual attitude($43.0{\pm}7.1$), sexual behaviorse($12.8{\pm}7.5$) and self-esteem($103.0{\pm}15.5$) were relatively low. The score of sexual attitude was affected by the subjects-parents relationship and sexual experience. The score of sexual behaviors was affected by religion, the subjects-parents relationship and sexual experience. The score of self-esteem was affected by the subjects's school record and the subjects-parents relationship. There was a positive correlation between sexual attitudes and behaviors, but the correlations between self-esteem and sexual attitudes, and self-esteem and sexual behaviors were not significant. Conclusion: Sexual attitudes and sexual behaviors of male high school students are changed openly and there is difference by a person's standard. An educational program may be needed to develope sexual attitude in high school students.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition degrees of contents in Home Economics textbook for middle school students among pre-middle school students and their parents. It is for developing better Home Economics textbook. Three objectives of this study were ; 1) To find the recognition degrees of the fact that Home Economics subject is supposed to utilize for not only girls, but boys students in middle schools in 1996 among pre-middle school students and their parents. 2) To find the degrees of necessity in each field of Home Economics subject among pre-middle school students and their parents. 3) To find the differences in recognition degrees of understandings, attitudes, and sills of Home Economics subject between pre-middle school students and their parents. Questionnaire survey method was utilized to 1,205 sixth grade students and their parents in Pusan. The results of this study as follows; 1) It was low that the recognition degrees of the fact that Home Economics subject is supposed to utilize for both girls and boys in middle school among both pre-middle school students and their parents. This result implies that it is important to important to disseminate the curriculum change in Home Economics practice to the public. 2) It was high that the recognition degree of necessity in each field of Home Economics subject among pre-middle school students and their parents. The recognition degree were different according to sociodemographic factors. That is , $\circled1$the recognition degrees of students were lower than their parents; $\circled2$ the recognition degrees of parents who have high education were higher than those who have low education ; $\circled3$ the recognition degree of an environmental field was highest. 3) There were little differences between pre-middle school students and their parents in the recognition degrees of understandings, attitudes, and skills of Home Economics subjects: The recognition degrees of girls fathers showed higher scores than boys fathers those of in understandings and skills of Home Economics subject. The recognition degrees of girls fathers showed higher scores than those of girls in attitudes of Home Economics subject.
This study figured out the influence of parenting attitudes and parenting efficacy on parents educational needs. Accordingly, it is for the purpose of being tried to establish a basic data for educational programs and intervention strategy to promote parenting attitudes and parenting efficacy for marriage immigration women. This is a study on descriptive correlation among 130 marriage immigration women with adolescent children. As the results of this study, parenting attitudes and parenting efficacy showed to be affected on the parents educational needs and had positive correlation(r=.248, p<.01). Receptive parenting attitudes and autonomous ones in the parenting attitudes had also positive correlation(r=.192, p<.05). It showed that the higher the excessive expectant parenting attitudes are, the higher the educational needs of social instruction are, and the higher the receptive parenting attitudes are, the higher the educational needs to understand growth development are. Also it showed that the lower the parenting efficacy is, the higher the social instruction and the educational need on growth for parents themselves are. The parents educational needs were high in the educational needs on learning, career instruction and education of effective communication. Based on the results above, this study hoped to develop structured education program develop for marriage immigration women and have more education opportunities for enhancing receptive parenting attitudes, autonomous ones and parenting efficacy.
