The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships among parent-adolescent communication, adolescents self-esteem, social development, and home environment. Home environment includes sex, father's vocations, mother's employments, parents educational level, and religions. 275 adolescents (186 males and 89 females students) were selected from middle schools in Seoul. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in parent-adolescent communication, adolescents self-esteem and social development according to environmental factors, such as parents' age, educational level, and religions. Also adolescents self-esteem was highly correlated with parent-adolescent communication, especially with mother-adolescent open communication. Finally, adolescent development of sociality was highly correlated with parent-adolescent communication, but not significant relationship with mother-adolescent reverse-functional communication.
The major purpose of this study was to investigate the causal effect of the primary triad experiences on dating relationship satisfaction through self-esteem among college students. The primary triad experiences were composed of the parents' differentiation level of couple relationship and the parent-child relationship including family rule, triangulation and communication. Dating relationship satisfaction included such subscales as problem-solving communication, global satisfaction, affection communication and time together. The study data were collected from 382 college students by using self-administered questionnaire method. The results showed that parents' differentiation was positively correlated with self-esteem and all components of dating relationship satisfaction and that family rule was negatively associated only with problem-solving communication. Triangulation was negatively related with most components of dating relationship satisfaction and self-esteem, while parent-child communication showed positive correlations with the same variables. Path analysis results showed that self-esteem mediated the effect of most variables of primary triad experiences on dating relationship satisfaction. In addition, variables of the primary triad experience had direct influences on most components of dating relationship satisfaction. Self-esteem was found to be the most powerful variable influencing dating relationship satisfaction. The findings of the study were discussed in terms of pre-marital education and counseling.
This thesis aims to investigate the mediatorial effect of peer attachments and self-esteem between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' life-satisfaction. In order to achieve this goal, the author analyzed the data gathered over 6 year period, which subjected 1823 third-year middle school students, a sample selected by the stratified-multilevel-sampling from the "Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey". The author collected the source material by means of SPSS WIN. 21.0 Program, frequency analysis, technological statistic analysis, relative analysis, path analysis (for satisfaction), and sobel test, etc. The results of analysis are as follows: Firstly, the child abuse by their parents has had a significant negative maladjustment on the participants' life satisfaction level. Secondly, the peer attachments had an influence on partial mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and adolescents' content(satisfied) lives. Lastly, the self-esteem had an influence on the complete mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' happy lives. The author gave an improved counterplan for peer attachments and self-esteem. The author suggests following researchers to include the impact of versatile environmental factors on adolescents' life satisfaction level which was excluded in the present research.
The purpose of this study is to investigate if and how much a family art therapy can influence a runaway middle school girl's self esteem, communication with parents, and family relations. Study subjects are a middle school girl (called S) and her parents, receiving a total of 13 sessions of art therapy from January 3 to March 28 of 2007, held at P-kindergarten located in Kyungbuk province, with each session of 90-120 minutes. Research instruments adopted for the study are a comparison between pre-test and post-test regarding S's self-esteem and a measure of dynamic relationship between S and her parents determined by KFD (Kinetic Family Drawing) in pre- and post-tests. The results are as follows. First, family art therapy shows its effect on the runaway middle school girls' self-esteem. Second, family art therapy proves to be effective on child-parent communication. Third, family art therapy displays positive influence on family relations.
Objective: This study examined the mediating effect of adolescents' self-esteem on the relationship between their childhood abuse experiences and school rule-breaking behavior. Methods: The research participants consisted of 1,748 adolescents aged from 15 to 16. Adolescents' school rule-breaking behavior and self-esteem were measured in 2016, whereas their childhood abuse experiences were measured in 2010. Panel data collected by the National Youth Policy Institute were analyzed using the bootstrapping technique and PROCESS Macro for SPSS. Results: The results of the study are as follows. First, the adolescents' childhood abuse experiences affected their school rule-breaking behavior. That is, the adolescents who were abused by their parents were at higher risk of breaking school rules later in life. Second, the adolescents' self-esteem mediated the relationship between their childhood abuse experiences and school rule-breaking behavior. The adolescents who were abused by their parents tend to have low levels of self-esteem and thereby break school rules. Conclusion/Implications: The present study shows the possibility that childhood abuse experiences lead to adolescents' problematic behaviors, such as school rule violation. It also indicates that it is necessary to provide counseling and therapeutic interventions for enhancing the self-esteem of adolescents of the at-risk group with childhood abuse experiences.
The subjects of this study were 283 $6^{th}$ and $8^{th}$ grade students and their homeroom teachers. Data were analyzed by frequency, %, Pearson's, two-way ANOVA, and stepwise regression. Results showed that open communication with parents and self-esteem were positively related to social competence and negatively related to antisocial behavior. Depression was negatively related to social competence and positively related to antisocial behavior. The $8^{th}$ graders had higher scores than $6^{th}$ graders in antisocial behavior and lower levels of social competence and communication with parents. Girls were higher in social competence and communication with parents and lower in antisocial behavior than boys. Depression impacted social competence in girls, and communication with fathers impacted social competence in boys. Grade, open communication with fathers, and self-esteem had significant effects on the antisocial behavior in boys.

Data on 1,475 pairs from the Wave 7 Panel Study on Korean Children were analyzed by using the SPSS 18.0 program and the AMOS 18.0 program. From the analysis of a hypothetical model, parents' family interaction exerted an actor effect on self-esteem. Mother's family interaction and self-esteem exerted an actor effect on depression; however, the partner effect on father's depression was not statistically significant. Father's family interaction and self-esteem exerted an actor effect on depression; however, the partner effect of father's family interaction on mother's depression was not statistically significant, and only father's self-esteem exerted a partner effect on mother's depression. The study results are as follows. This study investigates the differences in parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment according to self-esteem of children with disabled and non-disabled parents. The data were collected from 176 students between 4th and 6th grade in Chungbuk area. For a data analysis, mean, frequency, percent, three-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation were used. The results show that children's perceived parent-related stress, social support, and school adjustment are varied according to their self-esteem. Those with higher self-esteem were found to have tusker perception level in social support and school adjustment. On the contrary, they were found to have lower level in parent-related stress. The findings indicate further that girls have a closer relationship with their teachers than boys and that children with disabled parents have a closer relationship with their teachers than those with non-disabled parents. However, as opposed to prediction, parental disability itself caused no difference in the level of parent-related stress.
