Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review the literature on paternity leave and family health over the last 10 years. Methods: Nine studies that met the criteria were selected from sixty-four studies. General characteristics, study design, and major findings about paternity leave were analyzed using an established analysis framework. Results: From the integrative review, paternity leave was found to affect the health of fathers, mothers, and children, as well as family health and gender equality. The father's paternity leave resulted in an increase in mothers' breast feeding rate, a decrease in maternal depression, a reduction in parenting stress, a reduction in all-cause mortality of men, feelings of instinctive paternal love, increased parenting, skills, and positive parent-child relationships. It was interpreted that paternity leave had a positive effect on the mental and physical health of individual members of the family. Conclusion: This study provides the basic data on the health effects of father's parental leave on the family system in a holistic view. In addition, this study proposes the direction of paternity leave and family health research and policy needs.
Mothers play a major role in children's consumer socialization but little is known about differences in mother's consumer socialization tendencies and the antecedents causing the differences. This study addresses two research questions: First, what are the underlying dimensions of mother's consumer socialization? Second, what are the antecedent variables causing differences in mother's consumer socialization tendencies; can parental style, consumption-related attitudes (attitude toward marketplace and ads., attitude toward consumerism and consumption-oriented attitude) be used as a conceptual basis for hypothesizing these differences? The findings of this research were as follows: 1. Factor analysis suggested five underlying dimensions of mother's consumer socialization of children; Mother-child communication about consumption, Mediation of media, Reaction to purchase requests, Restriction of allowances and Restriction of consumption. 2. The differences in the mother's consumer socialization tendencies among different parental groups matched the differences in child-rearing behaviour suggested by Developmental Psychology and this provided support for expected relationships between general-consumer socialization tendencies, as measured by mothers' behaviour. 3. Differences were found on all factors according to mothers consumption-related attitude. This provided support for the expectation that mothers' consumption related attitudes are important antecedent variables causing differences in consumer socialization tendencies. Some implications and directions for future research were discussed.

Objectives: The study has a purpose of contributing to understanding children of multi-cultural families and healthy development of children by examining influences of parental attachment perceived by the children on their anger trait and anger expressions. Methods: The data were collected from 113 students in grade 4~6, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, pearson correlation coefficient by the SPSS/PC 18.0 program. Results: The result showed the stable attachment with parents significantly influences children's anger and expression(anger out/control). And mother's attachment was significantly stronger than father's attachment, especially mutual trust and communication. Father's attachment had significantly negative influences state-trait anger and anger out/in, and mother's attachment had significantly negative influences state-trait anger and anger out. Actually father's attachment had stronger influences children's anger and anger expression. Conclusions: There was relationship between father's attachment and anger trait/ expression by children of multi-cultural families. For the effective management of multi-cultural children's anger, programs focusing on improving father-child relationships need to be established.
This study aimed to explore the anger of child, the factors influencing the anger of child, the therapeutic techniques of therapist to resolve the marital conflict as well as the anger of child and the changes of family members after getting family therapy. The data was consisted of recording transcripts and note-taking of 8 sessions family therapy. The study used a constant comparative analysis and Miles & Huberman's matrix and network display as analysis method. The anger of child included aggressive and violent behavior, temperament, fear, anxiety, and negligence of rule. The study revealed parental dysfunctional communication patterns and parental experiences from family of origin as factors influencing the anger of child. The study found therapist's self-disclosure, sharing and comparing with similar cases, explanation of dysfunctional communication patterns, explanation about similarity in generational transmission process, and suggestion of new solutions as therapeutic techniques. The result of study showed the alleviation of marital conflict, the amelioration in the anger of child, and the change in the relationships of family members after getting family therapy.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe quality of life in school age children and the relationship between quality of life and parenting attitude as perceived by children and parent-child communication pattern. Methods: Data were collected between May 26 and June 3, 2009 using self-report questionnaires from 148 pairs of children and their parents. The children were enrolled in 4th to 6th grades. The questionnaires included the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), Parent-Child Communication (PCC) Scale, and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: The Quality of Life (QOL) score for the children was significantly higher among children reporting higher parental bonding attitude (mother r=.38, father r=.34) and parent-child communication (mother r=.43, father r=.36). Results of multiple regression showed that factors significantly associated with QOL were academic achievement, caregiver available after school, parent-child communication, school satisfaction, relationship with peers, and birth order among siblings. Conclusion: Positive relationships and good communication with parents and satisfaction with school life were important factors associated with quality of life in school age children.
This paper examines the intergenerational time transfers between married women and their co-residing elderly parents, and how they affect married women's labor force participation and work hour. The sample was drawn from the "2004 Time Use Survey" conducted by Korea National Statistical Office and the Heckman's 2-step model was estimated to examine these relationships. We find that women's caregiving time for their elderly parents reduces their likelihood of participating in the labor force. On the contrary, parental time transfers for married women increases the probability of their labor force participation. We find no evidence that the actual hours of paid work is related to the time transfers between married women and their elderly parents. In other words, after married women decide to participate in the labor force, their work hours are not affected by the time spent for parents and time gained from parents to them. Parental income is positively associated with the married women's labor force participation whereas husband's income is negatively related. The married women working in service occupation and earn salaries work longer hours than those employed as laborer and wage workers. Having older parents and owning the second home reduce working hours of married women.
Objective: This study aimed to examine the mediation effects of parenting style and daily activity on the relationships between cumulative parental stress and cognitive and language development of children. Methods: The participants of this study were 1,154 mothers, their five-year-old children, and teachers enrolled in the population-based study of the Panel Study of Korea Children (PSKC) conducted by the Korea Institute of Childcare and Education from 2008 to 2013. In order to analyze the data, descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling were used. Results: The results revealed that warm parenting style as well as daily activity had dual mediating effects between cumulative parental stress and child development (cognitive and language development). However, warm parenting style did not have any direct effects on child development in this model. Conclusion/Implications: Given that actual mother-child daily activity had an important role in affecting child development, support programs for parenting should include activities that include specific materials and activities which parents can do with their children in everyday life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the causal relationship of familial factors (parental acceptance, autonomy, and family satisfaction), social support (teacher's support and friend's support), school achievement, self-concept, and school adjustment. Based on preceding research, this study established a path model of school adjustment and its related variables. Methods: Two thousand six hundred and twenty nine middle school students participated in this study. Data were collected by a visit-survey with an organized questionnaire and was analyzed by the SPSS and AMOS programs. Results: Self-concept showed a significantly direct influence to school adjustment while both family satisfaction and school achievement directly and indirectly influenced school adjustment. Parental acceptance, autonomy, and social support indirectly influenced school adjustment. Conclusion: These results imply that first, family satisfaction, and self-concept are essential to solve the problems of school adjustment. Especially friend's support, teacher's support and school achievement should help improve the self-concept and school adjustment. Second, a variety of programs are available for schools to employ in an effort to provide interventions for students who demonstrate school maladjustment. Finally, it is necessary for family, school and society members to comprehensively cooperate to improve school adjustment.

Objectives : The purpose of the current study was to evaluate subject quality of life in depressed parents of boys with Duchenne/Becker muscular dystrophy (DMB/ BMD). In addition, a specific relationship between subject quality of life and the severity of depressive symptom was explored. Methods : The participants were 15 depressed parents who had moderate to severe depressive symptoms and 35 nondepressed parents of boys with DMD/BMD. All participants completed the World Health Organization Quality Of Life Scale, Brief Version and the Beck Depression Inventory. Other instruments included the Family Relationship Scale and the Child Behavior Checklist. Results : Among various model predictors, only higher score on the Beck Depression Inventory predicted lower scores on all domains of the World Health Organization Quality Of Life Scale, Brief Version. In addition, depressed parents had significantly lower scores on all domains of the World Health Organization Quality Of Life Scale, Brief Version including physical health, psychological health, social relationships, and environment, relative to non-depressed parents. Conclusion : Findings of the current study suggest that all domains of subjective quality of life may be influenced by depressive symptoms in parents of boys with DMD/BMD.
This study explored the relationship between maternal early parental attachment (EPA) and social interest. The participants were 311 mothers with elementary schoolchildren who lived in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area. Data were collected through an online questionnaire provided on the portal site and analyzed using k-means clustering, t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation using IBM SPSS Statistics 21 for Windows and, RMSEA, TLI, NFI and CFI using IBM SPSS AMOS 18 for Windows. The principal results were as follows. Firstly, mothers' EPA anxiety and avoidance had a negative influence on social interest. Secondly, social interest was found to be significantly higher among mothers with a secure attachment style than among mothers with an insecure attachment style. Thirdly, significant differences were observed in levels of social interest among mothers with secure, preoccupied, dismissive, and disorientated attachment styles. A Scheffé post-hoc test revealed that social interest was significantly higher among mothers with a secure attachment style than among mothers with a disorientated attachment style. The experience of relationships with caregivers early in life is therefore important in the development of social interest.
