Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of clinical and psychological factors on the quality of life of children and adolescents with epilepsy and their families. Methods Children and adolescents with epilepsy and their families (n = 63, age range = 6-17 years) completed questionnaires on epilepsy-related variables, quality of life, children's depressive symptoms, children's anxiety, children's behavioral problems, children's attention problems, parental stress, and parental anxiety. Stepwise regression analysis was performed to determine the significant predictive variables that affect quality of life. Results In the correlational analysis, children's attention problems (r = 0.363, p = 0.004), parental anxiety (r = 0.377, p = 0.003), parental stress (r = 0.564, p < 0.001), and children's behavioral problems (r = 0.503, p < 0.001) showed a significant correlation with quality of life. Parental stress (β = 0.415, p = 0.001, adjusted R2 = 0.345) and children's behavioral problems (β = 0.285, p = 0.02, adjusted R2 = 0.345) were significantly related to the quality of life. Conclusions Clinicians should pay attention to parental stress and children's behavioral problems, which affect quality of life in families with pediatric epilepsy.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of husband's emotional support and mother-teacher partnership on maternal parenting stress. The participants in this study consisted of 216 mothers with children(aged 4-5years). Husband's emotional support was measured by the Parenting Alliance Inventory(PAI, R. R. Abidin, 1988) revised by R. R. Abidin and J. F. Brunner(1995). Mother-teacher partnership was measured using the Caregiver-Parent Partnership Scale(A. M. Ware, B. Barfoot, A. S. Rusher & M. T. Owen, 1995) revised by M. T. Owen, A. M. Ware and B. Barfoot(2000). Parental Stress was measured by the Parenting Stress Index-Short Form(PSI-SF, R. R. Abidin, 1995) revised by M. E. Haskett, L. S. Ahern, C. S. Ward and J. C. Allaire(2006). The data were analyzed through mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression. The results of this study were as follows: First, the mean score of husband's emotional support was higher than average and the mean score of mother-teacher partnership was an average level. Parenting stress was lower than average. Second, there were statistically differences in maternal parental stress according to number of children and mother's educational level. Third, husband's emotional support and mother-teacher partnership were influenced by maternal parental stress. The results of this study are important because they show mothers, fathers, and teachers ways to reduce maternal parental stress.

The purpose of this study is to examine the inner side of those who raise the children, that is, the mothers, through the satisfaction with the parental roles and the child-rearing stress of them, with a view to emphasize the importance of an alternative for the mothers to cope with child-rearing stress and enhancing their satisfaction level with their role as a parent as well as the importance of social support in order to enhance the quality of rearing. For this purpose, the researcher conducted a survey with 312 mothers with preschool children of age 4 to 7 in Seoul and Gyeonggi Area from October 1, 2018 to October 15, 2018. To analyze the data, the researcher conducted frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, confidence analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation model, and Sobet-test, using SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. The results of the analyses showed that social support and satisfaction with the parental role were significantly influenced by child-rearing stress, while social support influenced the satisfaction with the parental role significantly. Also, it turned out to have a mediating effect in the relationship between the mother's child-rearing stress and the satisfaction with the parental role. Based on these findings, the study highlights that the social network that is connected with the mothers may function to reduce the negative influence of child-rearing stress on the satisfaction with the parental role when the social network channels appropriate support, tangible assistance, appealing of difficulties, and encouragement.
Atopic dermatitis is the fastest growing skin disorder among children from infancy to adolescence in Korea. The side-effects of atopic dermatitis not only include physical discomfort, but also psychological trauma which ultimately affects the developmental growth of children. This study was conducted in order to investigate the behavioral characteristics of an atopic dermatitis sufferer. As part of this research, the relative influence of behavioral problems and, self-perceived competence were analyzed in relation to the social competence of an atopic child. In total, 301 atopic and non-atopic children, between 2 and 6 years of age, and their mothers and teachers participated in the study. From this number, 109 children had atopic dermatitis, while 192 children did not. Mothers were asked to complete a parent-report questionnaire that required information on parental stress, according to the scale parenting methodology of Abbdin(1990) and Cho(1999). Teachers were subjected to teacher-report questionnaires which included topics on social competence, socia-emotional assessment and behavioral problems of an atopic child. Furthermore, children also completed questionnaires on self-perceived competence. According to analysis on K-CBCL, ITSEA, social competence, self-perceived competence and parental stress, children with atopic dermatitis showed higher scores in depression/anxiety and depression/withdrawal, compared to children in the normal control group. In relation to parental stress, daily stress, parental role stress, and stress related disease, mothers with atopic dermatitis children exhibited higher scores. In establishing relationships among the related variables, atopic children who demonstrated more social competence were more likely to suffer less from withdrawal, attention problems, and depression/anxiety. Stress related disease in mothers with atopic children was positively related to attention problems of the child. In terms of relative influences, behavioral problems was the most significant variable, accounting for 23% of variance. Lower behavioral problems was positively related to more social competence. In summation, this study investigated the general characteristics of atopic children. In conclusion, atopic children and their mothers had difficulty in dealing with this disease. It is our belief that an atopic child would not only require physical treatment, but also need appropriate psychological care.

Objectives: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to a decrease in face-to-face classes worldwide, affecting the mental health of children and their parents. The global pandemic has increased children's overall use of electronic media. This study analyzed the effect of children's screen time on problematic behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A total of 186 parents from Suwon, South Korea, were recruited to participate in an online survey. The mean age of the children was 10.14 years old, and 44.1% were females. The questionnaire included questions on children's screen time, problematic behaviors, and parental stress. Children's behavioral problems were evaluated using the Behavior Problem Index, whereas the Parental Stress Scale was used to estimate parental stress. Results: The mean smartphone usage frequency of the children was 5.35 days per week, and the mean smartphone screen time was 3.52 hours per day. Smartphone screen time (Z=4.49, p<0.001) and usage frequency (Z=2.75, p=0.006) were significantly correlated with children's behavioral problem scores. The indirect effect of parental stress on this relationship was also statistically significant (p=0.049, p=0.045, respectively). Conclusion: This study suggests that children's smartphone screen time has affected problematic behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, parental stress is related to the relationship between children's screen time and problematic behaviors.
The purpose of this study is to examine the types of the stress and coping behaviors perceived by mothers of children with disabilities, and to investigate factors affecting their life satisfaction. For this study, we surveyed 239 mothers living in the city. The results are as follows: First, we can categorize the stress into parental stress, economic stress, child developmental stress, physical stress, and emotional stress. Second, we can classify the coping behaviors into active efforts, avoidance, and emotional diversion. Lastly, life satisfaction of mothers of children with disabilities tends to depend on such factors as emotional stress, husband's support, parental stress, emotional diversion coping, economic stress, school- children, and their education.

This study aimed to develop a model to explain the factors influencing father's parenting stress, and to verify the appropriateness of the model. The participants included 1609 fathers with a 5-year old. The study used 2012 Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE), and analyzed with SPSS and AMOS programs. The analysis showed that first, father's income and parental efficacy were negatively related with parenting stress and father's depression and marital conflict were positively related with parenting stress. Second, father's parenting stress was directly and indirectly impacted by parental efficacy and their child's temperament. These results suggest that father education are needed for promoting positive paternal mental health and parental efficacy, to reduce parenting stress of fathers.
The purpose of this study was to contribute to maternal nursing in early postpartum stage and to neonatal nursing. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were constructed to include parental role stress scale, state-trait anxiety scale, and perception of the newborn scale. The subjects consisted of 100 mothers in the early postpartum stage at three hospitals in the Kyoung-In area, from November 8 to December 26, 1997. The data were analyzed by an SPSS program. The results are as follows ; 1. The mean of parental role stress of mothers in the early postpartum stage was 10.70$\pm$2.63. The means of state anxiety and trait anxiety of mothers were 36.29$\pm$8.45 and 38.53$\pm$8.36. The mean of perception of the newborn was 2.65$\pm$5.05, and 59% of mothers rated their newborn as better than the average newborn. 2. The level of parental role stress correlated to the level of state anxiety and trait anxiety. The level of state anxiety and trait anxiety were also related. The level of perception of the newborn was related to the level of state anxiety and trait anxiety. 3. Mothers who did not want the pregnancy, whose newborns were girls, and who already had one child had higher state anxiety than those who did not. Mothers who already had one child, and whose newborn had no specific signs had higher trait anxiety than those who did not. Mothers who professed a religions had a higher perception of the newborn than those who did not. The above findings indicate that the levels of parental role stress, state anxiety, trait anxiety and perception of the newborn of mothers in early postpartum stage were correlated. Therefore nursing intervention for reducing stress and anxiety, and improving perception of the newborn should be provided for mothers in early postpartum stage.

The purpose of this study was to classify the latent profiles of elementary school teachers' job stress and to explore the effects of the relative variables to determine these classifications. In addition, the differences in the teacher-student relationship and parental involvement in school based on the classification were discussed. Data from 709 elementary school teachers who participated in the 11th wave of the Panel Study on Korean Children in 2018 were analyzed by Latent Profile Analysis (LPA). The findings can be summarized as follows. First, four subgroups could be defined according to the elementary school teachers' job stress: low-level job stress group, mid-level job stress group, mid-level administrative work stress group, and mid-level relationship and guidance stress group. Second, the final education and average time to work were significant determinants of the latent groups. Third, teacher-student conflict and parental involvement in school showed differences between the subgroups. Specifically, the mid-level relationship and guidance stress group reported the highest conflict level with children and the lowest parental involvement in school. These findings suggest promoting relief and preventative training programs for elementary school teachers to overcome various job stress.
The purpose of this study was (1) to explore the difference in parental satisfaction regarding personal/family, work, and psychological variables of employment characteristics, and (2) to investigate the most effecting variables on the parental satisfaction. For this study, the working mother with children aged under 10 year were surveyed. The results of this study were as follow; (1) There were significant differences in the parental satisfaction according to work time, job preference, income, the difficulty of work life. However, working mother's personal and family variable were not found as the related variable. Psychological variables were correlated with parental satisfaction. (2) Maternal role efficiency, dual role conflict, flexibility of work, marriage year, income, psychological stress, expanded family, durations of occupation, spouse support significantly predicted parental satisfaction. Psychological variables were important in parental satisfaction of working mothers.
