Dietary Habits and Nutrition Knowledge of Children Using Community Food Service Centers according to Family Type (무료급식소를 이용하는 아동의 가족유형에 따른 식습관 및 영양지식 비교)

  • The objective of this study was to assess dietary habits and nutrition knowledge of elementary school students who use community food-service centers according to family type. The subjects were comprised of 147 individuals in low-income households, aged from 7 to 12 years, and who consumed free meals at community welfare centers or at local children's centers in Seoul and Kyunggi-do, Korea. Dietary habits and dietary intake were obtained using 24-hr recall. Children in low-income single parent families skipped breakfast more frequently than children in low-income married pa-rent families. No difference in nutrition intake or dietary habits was observed between children in low-income single parent families and children in low-income married parent families. More interest and financial support of the government are required to develop nutrition education and food assistance programs for children in low-income single parent families.

A Study on the Work and Life Conditions of Single, Young Parents : The Effect of Vocational Education and Public nanny service Support on Full-time Employment (청소년 한부모의 일과 삶의 실태와 현실 : 정규직 취업에 미치는 직업교육 경험과 아이돌봄 서비스 지원의 효과)

  • This study aimed to examine the impact of academic background on full-time employment and on other important issues concerning job security and care faced by single-parent youths. The study alse aimed to verify the effect of related support on full-time employment. The analysis targeted 262 single parents under 24 years of age who were raising their children, and the main results were as follows: First, the ratio of adulthood was high for those who were employed, and the academic achievement of full-time workers was also significantly high. However, the rate of discontinuities in school was also high among those who were employed, especially those seeking full-time employment, whose desire to stay in school was higher than that of other difficulties of single, teenage parents. Second, the vocational education experience of single, teenage parents was 32 percent overall, and the rate of those seeking full-time employment was also relatively high, reaching 44 percent. However, the results of this study did not verify the direct effect of vocational education experience on full-time employment nor the interaction effect of the academic background. Therefore, a thorough review of the effectiveness of a vocational education program for young, single parents wishing to gain employment is necessary. Third, the overall rate of those who received a public nanny service was 31 percent, while the rate of full-time workers who experienced this service was significantly higher reaching 59 percent. In the research model verification, single parents who received a public nanny service were 3.8 times more likely to get a full-time job than those who did not, and receiving a public nanny service showed a regulatory effect between academic studies and full-time employment. The higher the academic level of the parents, the higher their possibility of full-time employment.

Satisfaction and Preference with Meal Service of Child Education Center (유아교육기관의 급식 기호도 및 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate meal service conditions in child education centers as well as the satisfaction and preference levels of preschoolers. Preschoolers' menu preferences for bab, miyeokguk, baechu-kimch, jajangmyeon, and yogurt were all high. There were also high preferences for jjim, jorim, bbokkum, and tugim. Attention articles meal service strong concern for check family communication tools, and parents had passive for frequency of giving parent's opinion. The variables that influence on importance to meal service were purchased a fresh groceries, balance nourishment for preschooler and meal service menu for kid's health promotion when ranked. The variables that influence on satisfaction to meal service were hygiene education, mealtime and place, equipped with a sanitary feeding facilities and purchased a fresh groceries when ranked.

A Basic Study on Public Nanny Service Characteristics and Improvement Strategies (이용자관점에서 본 아이돌보미지원사업의 특성과 개선방안에 관한 기초연구)

  • In order to find out better policy strategies for public nanny service, this study tried to find out the characteristics and the major problems of this service based on 24 in-depth interviews and 7 focus group interviews with nannies, beneficiaries, managers, and public agents. Research findings showed that public nanny service was effectively filling the gap between nursery care services and parent's care services(especially who are both working). Also, this service provided tailored support to parents who have urgent or unexpected problems which prohibit them from properly caring their children. Especially this service effectively worked for temporary needs of caring young children. This study proposes these two strategies as follows: First, the beneficiary selection criteria should be updated. Second, the level and types of available time should be raised to fit the diverse needs of parents.

Analysis of Elementary School Teachers' Attitude Toward School Food Service Management and Effect (학교급식의 관리와 효과에 대한 초등교사들의 태도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the general problems of school food service and to explore a way to improve it, by examining elementary school teacher's consciousness and attitude toward it that gave a big impact on children's development of food habit. For attaining the purpose, the following research questions were posed : 1) What's elementary school teacher attitude toward school food service management? 2) What's elementary school teacher attitude toward school food service effect on children? 3) What's elementary school teacher opinion about how to develop school food service? The subjects of study were 328 male or female teachers who served at elementary school in urban and rural area, including eup, myon, or farming and fishing villages, Kyonggi province. A questionnaire survey was conducted over them. The conclusions were as follows: 1) Teacher Attitude Toward School Food Service Management Concerning food service place, the subjects were more satisfied at food service room(73.3%) than at classroom(23.0%). They responded that food service room was more effective, than classroom, for food transportation, distribution and post-arrangement. Their satisfaction at food service place was significantly different. The older teachers considered personnel management and cooking room's sanitary management to be more efficient, and their age made a significant difference to their consciousness of these things. Many teachers(63.1%) thought the measures to prevent and manage group food poisoning were relatively efficient. The male teachers expressed more affirmative view on the efficiency of school food expense management and menu preparation than female teachers, and there was a significant disparity between male and female teachers. 2) Elementary School Food Service Effect School food service was thought to be very effective for physical growth(74.1%) and physical strength improvement(70.1%). Teachers at smaller school revealed more affirmative response toward school food service effect on correcting an unbalanced diet, and older teachers considered its effect on nutrition knowledge acquisition and learning outcome to be more great. Teachers at larger school put less value on its effect on table manners, and school size produced a significant difference. The number of teachers who thought school food service generally raised parent concern and support for school(36.6%) was a little more than that of teachers who didn't think so(15.2%). And the number of teachers who didn't consider its effect on improving parent food life to be good(29.3%) was slightly more than that of teachers who did. 3) School Food Service Reform Measure What's most urgently needed for better school food service management appeared to be an expansion of facilities concerned, followed by more effective food distribution and transport, cooking room's better sanitary management, more successful food poisoning prevention and management, more effective food expense management, and an increase of food service personnel in the order named. The most effective means of school food service education was found to be a creation of link system to family, followed by a development of school food service education program, a development of teaching materials, an insertion of school food service in curriculum, and teacher education in the order named.

Standardization Study for the Korean Version of Parenting Relationship Questionnaire-Children (한국판 아동용 부모자녀관계 척도 표준화 연구)

  • The PRQ instrument is parental perspectives of the parent-child relationship. It measured parent-child dimensions that include attachment and involvement. Also, it provides additional information on parenting style, parenting stress and satisfaction with the child's school. This study tested reliability and validity of the Korean version of Parenting Relationship Questionnaire-Child (K-PRQ-C). The K-PRQ-C was administered to parents of 713 elementary school children including 362 boys and 351 girls. They were from 1st to 6th grade children who were recruited form 4 elementary schools in Korea. Reliability was tested through internal consistency. We conducted confirmatory factor analysis. Moreover, scale inter-correlation was conducted for validity test. Discriminant validity conducted through administration to the parents of clinical children with emotional and behavior disorders. Construct validity was also examined through Korean version of the Parenting Sense of Competence. The results of confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the similar factor structures exist for PRQ-C and K-PRQ-C. The results showed a high level of internal consistency as well as construct and discriminant validity. These results showed valid psychometric properties for the K-PRQ-C. The K-PRQ-C provides a reliable and valid means of gathering information about the parent-child relationship. We discussed Implications for the use of the K-PRQ-C as a clinical tool and as a research instrument.

A Study on the Effects of Psychological Adaptation of Social Service Users on Family Relations

  • Social services are divided into care services and other support services for the elderly, children and the disabled. These social services are the subject of great policy interest in that they can create two effects at the same time: increase in labor demand for service providers and increase the possibility of long-term accumulation of human capital for service recipients. Therefore, this study aims to confirm the hypothesis according to whether the use of social services affects family relationships and the effects of social service users' psychological adaptation on marital and parent-child relationships even when other related variables are controlled. The final result of this thesis is a regression analysis to find out the effect of psychological adaptation on the family relationship, spouse relationship, and relationship with children of subjects who have experience using social services. -.661, p=0.001), the higher the psychological adaptation, the higher the spouse satisfaction (β=.465, p=0.001) and relationship satisfaction with children (β=.360, p=0.001). In other words, it was found that the more depressed the psychologically, the more negative the relationship with spouse and children.

Analysis for the Need to Support Kindergartens based on Perception of Parent regarding Important Factors for Foodservice (유치원 학부모들의 급식 중요도 인식에 따른 급식지원 요구도 분석)

  • This study aims to classify parents by considering important factors in the management of foodservice for children. An offline survey was conducted by enrolling 583 Korean parents whose children attended public or private kindergartens in Seoul. The important factors required for managing foodservice for children are meal service resources, menu management, and food allergy. Considering these factors, parents were grouped into 3 clusters: the allergy important group, environment important group, and high concern group. Evaluation of the demographic characteristics revealed a significant difference between clusters with respect to type of kindergarten. Parents perceived that a private kitchen is more required than a private dining room, and perceptions about the need for a private kitchen and dining room were significantly different among the clusters. Furthermore, the results reveal significant differences between clusters, when considering the need to support meal service. Therefore, the government needs to consider characteristics of the parent cluster if they plan to support the kindergarten foodservice. We believe that this study can be used as supportive data to establish a working policy.

Prevalence of parasite infection of chickens in Jeonbuk province (전북지방 닭의 내부기생충 감염상황)

  • In order to detection of the intestinal parasites, fecal samples were taken from broiler (n=290), parent stock (n=168) and laying hen (n=114) in Jeonbuk province. The prevalence and identification of intestinal parasites were determined by the fecal examination using the floatation method and microscopical examination, respectively. The detection rate of parasite-eggs from 3 flocks (total=572) was 44.9%. In the breed and type of breeding, infection rate of parasite-eggs was detected 65.5% as broiler (floor breeding, 290 chickens), 20.2% as parent stock (floor breeding, 168 chickens) and 28.9% as laying hen (cage breeding, 114 chickens), in order. In the concern of mixed infection such as single and double, the rate were 40.7% and 4.2%, respectively. Six kinds of infective eggs were isolated 257 fecal sample from 3 flock. They were classified 74.7% as Eimeria spp, 18.1% as Ascaridia galli and 6.0% as Capillaria spp and 0.4% as Heteratkis gallinarum, Railleina spp or Trichostrongylus spp, single or in combination.

What Factors Cause a Complete Examination of Infant Health Checkup? (영유아 건강검진 완전수검 여부 관련 요인)

  • Background: This study examined what factors affected a complete examination of infant health checkup. Methods: We used Korean national health insurance claim data of 2,936,650 infants, taking examination in 2012. These claim data included enrollment status of householders and records of infant health checkup from 2008 to 2013. Results: Our results shows that for infant characteristics, the likelihood of complete examination of infant health checkup is significantly lower in female, older aged, and handicapped ones. For householder characteristics, the likelihood of complete examination of infant health checkup is also significantly lower in female, older group and self-employed ones. For household characteristics, the likelihood of complete examination is also significantly lower in single-parent families, multi-cultural families, parent with unexperienced health checkup and lower monthly premiums. Conclusion: It is necessary to support an additional use-guide and follow-up management services to improve incomplete examination of infant health checkup.
