The general path model (GPM) is one approach for performing degradation-based, or Type III, prognostics. The GPM fits a parametric function to the collected observations of a prognostic parameter and extrapolates the fit to a failure threshold. This approach has been successfully applied to a variety of systems when a sufficient number of prognostic parameter observations are available. However, the parametric fit can suffer significantly when few data are available or the data are very noisy. In these instances, it is beneficial to include additional information to influence the fit to conform to a prior belief about the evolution of system degradation. Bayesian statistical approaches have been proposed to include prior information in the form of distributions of expected model parameters. This requires a number of run-to-failure cases with tracked prognostic parameters; these data may not be readily available for many systems. Reliability information and stressor-based (Type I and Type II, respectively) prognostic estimates can provide the necessary prior belief for the GPM. This article presents the Bayesian updating framework to include prior information in the GPM and compares the efficacy of including different information sources on two data sets.

The purpose of this study is to implement modeling by applying the parametric technique to the atypical trusses of rigid retractable large space structures. The retractable large space structure requires a lot of time and skill in modeling nonlinear shapes or generating, interpreting, and reviewing many models by alternative. To solve these problems, we introduce firstly parametric modeling tool, secondly, we analyze the connection of atypical three-dimensional trusses of a rigid retractable large-space structure, and finally model it as parametric components of the developed trusses. Therefore, it is a future study to make effective modeling of the openable roof by developing the components that can realize the modeling of the truss classified by the opening and closing method, respectively.
Background: Length of stay is a significant indicator of care effectiveness and hospital performance. Owing to the limited number of healthcare centers and facilities, it is important to optimize length of stay and associated factors. Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate factors associated with neonatal length of stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) using parametric and semiparametric models and compare model fitness according to Akaike information criterion (AIC) between 2016 and 2018. Methods: This retrospective cohort study reviewed 600 medical records of infants admitted to the NICU of Bandar Abbas Hospital. Samples were identified using census sampling. Factors associated with NICU length of stay were investigated based on semiparametric Cox model and 4 parametric models including Weibull, exponential, log-logistic, and log-normal to determine the best fitted model. The data analysis was conducted using R software. The significance level was set at 0.05. Results: The study findings suggest that breastfeeding, phototherapy, acute renal failure, presence of mechanical ventilation, and availability of central venous catheter were commonly identified as factors associated with NICU length of stay in all 5 models (P<0.05). Parametric models showed better fitness than the Cox model in this study. Conclusion: Breastfeeding and availability of central venous catheter had protective effects against length of stay, whereas phototherapy, acute renal failure, and mechanical ventilation increased length of stay in NICU. Therefore, the identification of factors associated with NICU length of stay can help establish effective interventions aimed at decreasing the length of stay among infants.

A certain number of products are transported to be sold each month and some of them are returned for repair. In this study we first assume that the transported products are the ones that have been sold, Then nonparametric approach is applied to the warranty returns data to see how the reliability decreases over time. Parametric approach such as Weibull distribution is applied to the same data and the results for both nonparametric and parametric approaches are compared. Next we assume that there is a time lag between shipment and sale. Then both nonparametric and parametric approaches are applied to the time-lag data and the results are compared.
To account for the importance of variable in multi-sensor data fusion, random forests are applied to supervised land-cover classification. The random forests approach is a non-parametric ensemble classifier based on CART-like trees. Its distinguished feature is that the importance of variable can be estimated by randomly permuting the variable of interest in all the out-of-bag samples for each classifier. Supervised classification with a multi-sensor remote sensing data set including optical and polarimetric SAR data was carried out to illustrate the applicability of random forests. From the experimental result, the random forests approach could extract important variables or bands for land-cover discrimination and showed good performance, as compared with other non-parametric data fusion algorithms.

In this paper, we have constructed singly resonant KTP OPO system pumped by 532 nm to obtain broadly frequency tunable pulses. Also we have mathematically simulated frequency tuning range, phase matching angle for 900 nm output and threshold energy, and we calculated output intensity using wave propagation equations for optical parametric oscillator which include walk-off, pump depletion.
Designer must cope with frequent changes in geometric information of automobile suspension module in the early stage of the design process. The authors developed the PSG(Parametric Set Generator) to create parametric models and to change geometric information concerning the lower arm, which is one of the important parts of the automobile suspension module. CAD models provided from the PSG can be utilized to assess fatigue durability via the FE modeling support system. This system provides easy and fast FE-modeling for a static and durability analysis of the lower arm. The PSG and the FE modeling support system are integrated using the e-engineering framework based on the JADE platform. In this study, a durability analysis as a case study for the lower arm manufactured at H company is performed, and the efficiency obtained is discussed.
This paper presents the results of a theoretical energy analysis of a research test bed called the Zero Net Energy Test House (ZNETH) in Omaha, Nebraska in U.S.A. The ZNETH project is being designed and built with the goal of consuming a negligible amount of energy by offsetting remaining usage after energy conservation. The theoretically consumed and generated energy levels were analyzed using energy modeling software programs. By integrating a highly graphical and intuitive analysis with a Building Information Model(BIM) of the house, this investigation introduces strategies to include sustainable materials and systems to predict energy generation with a case study of ZNETH. In addition, this paper introduces parametric analyses for better envelope design and construction material selection by analyzing simulated energy consumption with various parametric inputs, e.g., material types, location, and size. It was found that the current design of ZNETH does not meet its goal of zero net energy. Sugeestions are presented to assist ZHETH in meeting its net zero energy goal.
VSS identification approach is based on following concept, i.e. while in sliding motion, the switching of control inputs refects system uncertainites. Therefore, if there exist some operations that make the information form the switiching control inputs be achievable, then the unknown parameters can be actually identification mechanisms which can fully make use of the available information. Two different types of VSS identifiers are taken into consideration. The first type uses adjustable model whose structure is similar to that of identified systems. From the viewpoint of contro, this type of VSS identifiers may be regraded as direct identifier vecause the identified system is handled as an open loop. On the other hand, if the identified system is controlable in the sense of VSS(sliding mode can be generated through chosing control inputs), the second type of VSS identifier, the indirect VSS identifier, can be constructed according to the linerized system strucutre while staying in sliding mode. Therefroe it can be applied to some nonlinear systems which are not linear in parametric space by general identification algorithms, whereas linear in parametric space when sliding mode is existed.
