Weather Radar Image Gener ation Method Using Inter polation based on CUDA

  • Doppler weather radar is an important tool for meteorological research. Through several decades of development, Doppler weather radar has enormous progress in understanding, detection and warning of meso and micro scale weather system. It makes a significant contribution to weather forecast and weather disaster warning. But the large amount of data process limits the application of Doppler weather radar. This paper proposed for fast weather radar data processing based on CUDA. CDUA is a powerful platform for highly parallel programming developed by NVIDIA. Through running plenty of threads, radar data can be calculated at same time. In experiment, CUDA parallel program can significantly improve weather data processing time.

  • A transputer is a powerful micro-processor, which can communicate with other processors with its own communication links and can be utilized into a powerful parallel computer system with easy way and low price. However, its usage has been limited to a few people because of its own programming language and complicated user interfaces. This paper presents programming tools to use a transputer system easily. It includes transputer integrated environment which has many developing tools, and transputer manager which can monitor and manage the system and developed programs on it. We also implemented a graphichs application program in order to test the feasibility and funcitonalities of programmers easy access to the transputer networks and visualize the performance status of each processor so that they can write efficient parallel programming codes.

  • In underground power cable system, the device for limiting over-voltage is needed when transient over-voltage break out between sheath and ground. For this reason, the SVL(Sheath Voltage Limiter) has been applied on weak points. But the broken SVLs which are installed on the single point bonding system on underground cable are frequently found. In this paper, EMTP(Electromagnetic Transient Program) is utilized to analyze effects on the installation methodology of the parallel ground conductor and SVL for the single point bonding system on the underground cable. The result shows that the proposed installation methodology can be applied for single point bonding system and contribute for power system stabilization.

  • In the parallel processing systems, a compiler partitions a loaded program into tasks, allocates the tasks on multiple processors and schedules the tasks on each allocated processor. In this paper we suggest a Genetic Algorithm(GA) based scheduling method to find an optimal allocation and sequence of tasks on each Processor. The suggested method uses a chromosome which consists of task sequence and binary string that represent the number and order of tasks on each processor respectively. Two correction algorithms are used to maintain precedency constraints of the tasks in the chromosome. This scheduling method determines the optimal number of processors within limited numbers, and then finds the optimal schedule for each processor. A result from computational experiment of the suggested method is given.

Evaluation of Fuel Economy for a Parallel Hybrid Electric Vehicle

  • In this work, the fuel economy of a parallel hybrid electric vehicle is investigated. A vehicle control algorithm which yields operating points where operational cost of HEV is minimal is suggested. The operational cost of HEV is decided considering both the cost of fossil fuel consumed by an engine and the cost of electricity consumed by an electric motor. A procedure for obtaining the operating points of minimal fuel consumption is introduced. Simulations are carried out for 3 variations of HEV and the results are compared to the fuel economy of a conventional vehicle in order to investigate the effect of hybridization. Simulation results show that HEV with the vehicle control algorithm suggested in this work has a fuel economy 45% better than the conventional vehicle if braking energy is recuperated fully by regeneration and idling of the engine is eliminated. The vehicle modification is also investigated to obtain the target fuel economy set in PNGV program.

  • In parallel application programs with a localized communication, even if the MINs have lour diameters, overall system performance degrades when compared to the hypercube and tree structure. The reason is that it is impossible for MINs to provide some mechanisms for clustering to exploit the locality of reference. However proposed MIN can be constructed suitable for localized communication by providing the shortcut path and multiple paths inside the processor-memory duster which has frequent data communications. Therefore proposed MIN achieves enhanced performance in parallel application program with a localized communication.

A New Algorithm Design for the Real-time Electrochemical Impedance Monitoring System

  • It is generally known that electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is a powerful technique and its real-time application has been demanded for prompt observations on instantaneous electrochemical changes. Nevertheless, long measurement time and laborious analysis procedures have hindered development of it. Solving the problems, here I report of a new algorithm design for development of a real-time electrochemical impedance monitoring system, which potentially provides a guideline in developing monitoring systems of electric vehicles batteries and other electrochemical power plants. The significant progress in this report is employment of the parallel processing protocol which connects independent sub functions to successfully operate with avoiding mutual interruptions. Therefore, all the processes required to monitor electrochemical impedance changes in realtime are properly operated. To realize the conceptual scheme, a Labview program was coded with sub functions units which conduct their processes individually and only data are transferred between them through the parallel pipelines. Finally, measured impedance spectra and analysis results are displayed, which are synchronized according to the time of change.

  • In the present study, domain decomposition using the substructuring method is developed for the computational efficiency of the finite element analysis of metal forming processes. In order to avoid calculation of an inverse matrix during the substructuring procedure, the modified Cholesky decomposition method is implemented. As obtaining the data independence by the substructuring method, the program is easily parallelized using the Parallel Virtual Machine(PVM) library on a workstation cluster connected on networks. A numerical example for a simple upsetting is calculated and the speed-up ratio with respect to various domain decompositions and number of processors. Comparing the results, it is concluded that the improvement of performance is obtained through the proposed method.

  • Because of Korean power system characteristics and increasing power demand, the need of 765kV transmission line is growing gradually. Now a days, KEPCO's 765kV transmission line has been tested and stands for commercial operation. During the first stage, 765kV transmission line will be operated with two voltage grades of 765kV and 345kV, which results the unbalance of power system. So unbalanced current such as zero sequence current flows in the transmission line. In this paper, we describes the simulation study of 765/345kV parallel transmission line by using EMTDC program.

  • The back-light inverter used in the laptop computer is designed in this paper. It has been difficult for electromagnetic transformer to enhance the efficiency and compact profile of the inverter. In this paper, (1) the piezoelectric transformer (PT) is used for reducing the loss; (2) the volumes of core and winding coil are used in electromagnetic transformer, and (3) the half-bridge series parallel resonant circuit is used in the driver of the inverter. The modified PT for this paper and the equivalent circuit are supported by the simulation program. The result of the experiment shows more than 91% improvement in terms of the efficiency.
