The dielectric properties and phase transformation of poled <001>-oriented $Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-x%PbTiO_3$(PMN-x%PT) single crystals with compositions of x = 20, 30, and 35 mole% are investigated for orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the [001] poling direction. An electric-field-induced monoclinic phase was observed for the initial poled PMN-30PT and PMN-35PT samples by means of high-resolution synchrotron x-ray diffraction. The monoclinic phase appears from $-25^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$ and from $-25^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$ for the PMN-30PT and PMN-35PT samples, respectively. The dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}$)-temperature (T) characteristics above the Curie temperature were found to be described by the equation$(1/{\varepsilon}-1/{\varepsilon}_m)^{1/n}=(T-T_m)/C$, where ${\varepsilon}_m$ is the maximum dielectric constant and $T_m$ is the temperature giving ${\varepsilon}_m$, and n and C are constants that change with the composition. The value of n was found to be 1.82 and 1.38 for 20PT and 35PT, respectively. The results of mesh scans and the temperature-dependence of the dielectric constant demonstrate that the initial monoclinic phase changes to a single domain tetragonal phase and a to paraelectric cubic phase. In the ferroelectric tetragonal phase with a single domain state, the dielectric constant measured perpendicular to the poling direction was dramatically higher than that measured in the parallel direction. A large dielectric constant implies easier polarization rotation away from the polar axis. This enhancement is believed to be related to dielectric softening close to the morphotropic phase boundary.
The structure and dielectric properties of poled <001>-oriented 0.7Pb($Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-0.3PbTiO_3$ (PMN-0.3PT) crystals have been investigated for orientations both parallel and perpendicular to the [001] poling direction. An electric field induced monoclinic phase was observed for the initial poled sample. The phase remained stable after the field was removed. A quite different temperature dependence of dielectric constant has been observed between heating and cooling due to an irreversible phase transformation. The results of mesh scans and temperature dependence of the dielectric constant demonstrate that the initial monoclinic phase changes to a single domain tetragonal phase at 370K and to a paraelectric cubic phase at 405K upon heating. However, upon subsequent cooling from the unpoled state, the cubic phase changes to a poly domain tetragonal phase and to a rhombohedral phase. In the ferroelectric tetragonal phase with a single domain state, the dielectric constant measured perpendicular to the poling direction was dramatically higher than that of the parallel direction. A large dielectric constant implies easier polarization rotation away from the polar axis. This enhancement is believed to be related to dielectric softening close to the morphotropic phase boundary and at the phase transition temperature.
Studies on lead-free piezoelectrics have been attractive as means of meeting environmental requirements. We synthesized lead-free piezoelectric $(Bi_{1/2}Na_{1/2})TiO_3-Ba(Cu_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ (BNT-BCN) ceramics, and their dielectric, piezoelectric, and strain behavior were characterized. As BCN with a tetragonal phase was incorporated into the rhombohedral BNT lattice, the lattice constant increased. A small amount of BCN increased the density and dielectric constant forming the complete solid solution with BNT. However, BCN above 10 mol% was precipitated into a separate phase, and which was detected with XRD. In addition, EDX measurement revealed that Cu in BCN was not distributed homogeneously but was accumulated in a certain area. A lower density with a large amount of BCN was attributed to the nonsinterable property of BCN with large tetragonaliy. The dielectric constant vs the temperature change and the strain vs the electric field indicated that the ferroelectric property of BNT was diminished and paraelectric behavior was enhanced with the BCN addition. BNT-7.5BCN showed a 0.11% unimorph strain with a 9.0 kV/mm electric field with little hysteresis.
This paper has presented that fringing-electric fields enhanced by a finger-type electrode can improve the tunability of the tunable capacitor. Its top electrodes with different area and line width are designed in types of the finger for a long conducting perimeter. The tunable varactors were fabricated on a quartz substrate employing a multi-layer dielectric of a para/ferro/para-electric thin film. Compared to the conventional capacitor, finger-type capacitors are analyzed in terms of effective capacitance and tunablility. Their effective capacitance and tunability of the varactors with the long perimeter increase 24~40 % and 7~12 %, respectively, due to enhanced fringing electric fields from 1 to 2.5 GHz.
This study examines paraelectric $Bi_{1.5}Zn_{1.0}Nb_{1.5}O_7$ (BZN), which has no hysteresis and high dielectric strength, for energy density capacitor applications. To increase the breakdown dielectric strength of the BZN film further, poly(vinylidene fluoride) BZN-PVDF composite film is fabricated by aerosol deposition. The volume ratio of each composition is calculated using dielectric constant of each composition, and we find that it was 12:88 vol% (BZN:PVDF). To modulate the structure and dielectric properties of the ferroelectric polymer PVDF, the composite film is heat-treated at $200^{\circ}C$ for 5 and 30 minutes following quenching. The amount of ${\alpha}-phase$ in the PVDF increases with an increasing annealing time, which in turn decreases the dielectric constant and dielectric loss. The breakdown dielectric strength of the BZN film increases by mixing PVDF. However, the breakdown field decreases with an increasing annealing time. The BZN-PVDF composite film has the energy density of $4.9J/cm^3$, which is larger than that of the pure BZN film of $3.6J/cm^3$.

Morphotropic phase boundary (MPB), which is a special boundary that separates two or multiple different phases in the phase diagram of some ferroelectric ceramics, is an important concept in identifying physics that includes piezoelectric responses. MPB, which had not been discovered in organic materials until recently, was discovered in poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-trifluoroethylene (P(VDF-TrFE)), resulting from a molecular approach. The piezoelectric coefficient of P(VDF-TrFE) in this MPB region was achieved up to -63.5 pC N-1, which is about two times as large as the conventional value of -30 pC N-1 of P(VDF-TrFE). An order-disorder arrangement greatly affects the rise of the piezoelectric effect and the ferroelectric, paraelectric and relaxor ferroelectric of P(VDF-TrFE), so the arrangement and shape of the polymer chain is important. In this review, we investigate the origin of negative longitudinal piezoelectric coefficients of piezoelectric polymers, which is definitely opposite to those of common piezoelectric ceramics. In addition to the mainly discussed issue about MPB behaviors of ferroelectric polymers, we also introduce the consideration about polymer chirality resulting in relaxor ferroelectric properties. When the physics of ferroelectric polymers is unveiled, we can improve the piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties of ferroelectric polymers and contribute to the development of next-generation sensor, energy, transducer and actuator applications.

In this paper, the (1-x)($Sr_{0.50}$$Pb_{0.25}$$Ba_{0.25}$)$TiO_3$-x $Bi_2$$Ti_3$$O_{9}$(x=0,4,6,8[mol.%]) ceramics with paraelectric properties were, fabricated by mixed oxide method. The dielectric and structural properties of ceramics were studied with sintering temperature and addition of $Bi_2Ti_3O_{9}$, and the application for the high - voltage capacitor was investigated. In the specimens with sintering at 1350[$^{\circ}C$], sintered density was showed the highest value of 5.745[g/cm$^3$]. Increasing of sintering temperature, average grain size was increased. The specimen. ($Sr_{0.50}$$Pb_{0.25}$$Ba_{0.25}$)$TiO_3$sintered at 1350[$^{\circ}C$] showed good dielectric properties and breakdown voltage was showed the highest value of 200[kV]. Temperature coefficient of capacitance was stabilized in specimens added $Bi_2Ti_3O_{9}$ Sintered density. dielectric properties and breakdown voltage ware decreased with increasing the contents of $Bi_2Ti_3O_{9}$.
In-site X-ray diffraction measurements under electric field up to 20kV/ cm were carried out on PLZT (x/70/30) with x=7.5, 8.0, 8.5, and 10.5 All of PLZT belonged to cubic phases. At x=7.5, 8.0 and 8.5 PLZT behaved as an antiferroelectric under low electric fields up to 4-8 kV/cm. PLZT became ferroelectric at the higher electric fields. The high-temperature measurements on the dielectric constants of PLZT with x=7.5, 8.0 and 8.5 showed that they were similar to relaxor ferroelectrics and underwent a diffuse phase transition from antiferroelectrics to paraelectrics at 50-7$0^{\circ}C$. Their P-E hysteresis curves confirmed that they were antifer-roelectrics. The broad distribution of Curie points suggests that there is a significant disorder of cations and vacances in the crystal structure of those PLZT due to La-substitution. The variation of the lattice strain of PLZT(10.5/70/30) with electic field was very small and did not show any hysteresis confirming that it was paraelectric. The degree of the electric-induced strain variation decreased as La doping increased. In PLZT(7.5/70/30) the intensity of 110 reflection changes sensitively by applying electric field. Some domains with polarization parallel to [110] appeared to be developed in the field-induced ferroelectric phase of the PLZT.

Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of PIN-PMN-PT piezoelectric single crystals with variation of temperature and compressive stress were investigated. The crystal phase of the single crystal was changed from the ferroelectric rhombohedral structure to tetragonal structure in the 110℃ region and from the tetragonal structure to the paraelectric cubic structure in the 190℃ region. The piezoelectric constant and relative dielectric constant were calculated from the rate of change of polarization and displacement with the application of electric field, which was similar to the value measured from the instrument. As the compressive stress applied to the sample increased, the piezoelectric constant d33 and relative dielectric constant values tended to increase. When the compressive stress applied to the sample at 5℃ was 60 MPa, the d33 was calculated as 4,500 pC/N. At 60℃, the relative dielectric constant of 62000 was calculated when the compressive stress applied to the sample was 40 MPa. The increase in piezoelectric constant and relative dielectric constant when the compressive stress increased could be attributed to the phase transition from the rhombohedral structure to orthorhombic.

In this study, we have prepared PLT thin films having various La concentrations by using sol-gel method and studied on the effect of La concentration on the electrical properties of PLT thin films. As the La concentration increases from 5mol% to 28mol%, the dielectric constant at 10kHz increases from 428 to 761, while the loss tangent decreases from 0.063 to 0.024. Also, the leakage current density at 150kV/cm has a tendency to decrease from 6.96${\mu}A/cm^2$ to 0.79${\mu}A/cm^2$. In the result of hysteresis loops of PLT thin films, the remanent polariation and the coercive field decrease from 9.55${\mu}C/cm^2$ to 1.10${\mu}C/cm^2$ and from 46.4kV/cm to 13.7kV/cm, respectively. With the result of the fatigue test on the PLT thin films, we have found that the fatigue properties are improved remarkably as the La concentration increases from 5 mol% to 28mol%. In particular, the PLT28) has paraelectric phase and its charge storage clensity and leakage current density at 5V are 134fC/${\mu}cm^2$ and 1.01${\mu}A/cm^2$, respectively. The remanent polarization and coercive field of the PLT(10) film are 6.96${\mu}C/cm^2$ and 40.2kV/cm, respectively. After applying of $10^9$ square pulses with ${\pm}5V$, the remanent polarilzation of the PLT(10) film decreases about 20% from the initial state. In the results, we conclude that the 10mol% and the 28mol% La doped PLT thin films are very suitable for the capacitor dielectrics of new generation of DRAM and NVFRAM respecitively.
