A Study on Firmware Optimization Approach of Smart Phone (스마트폰의 펌웨어 최적화 방법에 관한 연구)

  • Cell-phones functions have advanced so rapidly and they are now called 'smart-phones.' Typical approach to optimization the performance of a smartphone is the increasing the speed of device and acquiring more free memory. In this paper, we propose relatively simple techniques that average users can apply to their devices to optimize the performance. For performance upgrade, we proposed an over-clocking technique usually used by computer manufacturers. For memory optimization, we proposed deleting unnecessary apps and replacing with better-functioning apps. We also performed experimentation by applying these techniques to a popular Android phone model and presented the results.

  • Following the increase in the supply of smartphones and the increase in the use of wireless Internet, the online shopping environment is also changing into mobile shopping. However, the domestic mobile shopping services fall short of people's expectations compared to desktop Internet shopping malls. These are mainly due to the restricted screen size and inconvenient data entry of mobile devices, the slow Internet speed, and other restrictive conditions. Accordingly, in this paper, the usability of three main domestic mobile shopping malls was evaluated using a heuristic evaluation method. The factors that must be considered when producing a mobile website, the consideration for the mobile users, and the main functions of a shopping mall, were considered to define an evaluation form. The results of the evaluation were then analyzed to propose the problems of mobile shopping malls and the directions for their improvement.

  • As mobile devices have developed, flash animations suitable for the existing web have solved part of the weakness caused by the image quality deterioration and the transmission capacity, but it is difficult to express 3D stereo-scopic images. Also, for the real time-randering of visual expressions for animation and the device technique for smartphone to accord with commercial demands, it is required to develop the 3D image processing technique. This paper studied on the image processing method for 3D animation capable of 3D graphic rendering with view system of android and OpenGL M3G in an embedded system device and OpenGL ES 2.0 library.

  • Smart Multiple-Tap to be introduced in this paper, is an electronic device that controls the Multibple-Tap through the Smartphone. It runs on network and has an inbuilt Zigbee communication module. Thus, users can control home devices from remote through home server. Mentioned home server is operated as a gateway and is connected with smart devices on the Internet. To sum up, Users using this Smart Multiple-Tap can check the state information of the multi-tap ON/OFF and can control immediately by smartphone. also, Smart Multiple-Tap perfectly shut down the standby power. when users turn off each of the Smart Multiple-Tap's circle, It drives automatically lowest electricity-consuming mode and shut down the standby power by its own built-in SSR module. therefore, it will bring the energy saving effect on environment using Smart Multiple-Tap.

  • Mobile game apps, which are popular in various mobile devices, tend to be power-hungry and rapidly drain the device's battery. Since a long battery lifetime is a key design requirement of mobile devices, reducing the power consumption of mobile game apps has become an important research topic. In this paper, we investigate the power consumption characteristics of popular mobile games with multiple threads, focusing on the inter-thread. From our power measurement study of popular mobile game apps, we observed that some of these apps have abnormally high-load threads that barely affect the user's gaming experience, despite the high energy consumption. In order to reduce the wasted power from these abnormal threads, we propose a novel technique that detects such abnormal threads during run time and reduces their power consumption without degrading user experience. Our experimental results on an Android smartphone show that the proposed technique can reduce the energy consumption of mobile game apps by up to 58% without any negative impact on the user's gaming experience.

  • As the recent advances in network and wireless communications and semiconductor design and process technologies, our computing platform is rapidly shifting from desktop PCs to mobile devices such as UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC), Tablet PC, and Smartphone. Especially, wide-spreading Smartphones allow a new field of application based on location based services available with an user interface called augmented reality (AR). Therefore, this paper introduces an implementation of AR using various OpenAPls on Android Smartphones. In order to utilize enrich user data in real time, the system integrates with location based social network services also with OpenAPI. These APIs enable third-party developers to make use of rich contents of many portal web sites. The prototype was implemented on the real Android phone, Sky Sirius, and the result shows that it can provide an efficient location based service using AR technology without any constraints on mobile devices; in addition, it connects SNS to AR for sharing user data including photos, videos, and messages based on a specific location.

  • Recently, research about ESS(Emergency Support System) has been actively carried out to provide a variety of medical services using smart devices and wearable devices. Smart healthcare provides a personalized health care service using various types of bio-signal measuring sensors and smart devices. For the smart healthcare using a smart device, it is need to research about personal health monitoring using a smart wearable devices, and also need to research on service methods for first aid measures after an emergency. In this paper, we proposed about group management based emergency support system, that is monitoring about personal bio signal using smart devices and wearable devices to protect patient's life. The system notices to the medical volunteers based on the position information when an emergency situation. In addition, we have designed and implemented an emergency support system providing the information of the patient on the display when transmitting a picture of a patient using a smart device to the server.

  • This paper has been an era of full-fledged objects Internet of Things(IoT), which involved the subject of this communication in the communication paradigm of the human heart. Things Arduino-based appliances ON, the system was implemented using the smartphone alarm in the Internet environment. All appliances even if plug connected to an external power source only standby power is present. This system is used for communication with the Arduino things. Connect the appliances power automatically rings the smartphone alarm minimize appliances standby power to things all by ON automatically connected to the Arduino, and the work of giving consumer electronics devices to help weather that automatically operates by Objects is an Internet system.

A Code-level Parallelization Methodology to Enhance Interactivity of Smartphone Entertainment Applications (스마트폰 엔터테인먼트 애플리케이션의 상호작용성 개선을 위한 코드 수준 병렬화 방법론)

  • One of the fundamental requirements of entertainment applications is interactivity with users. The mobile device such as the smartphone, however, does not guarantee it due to the limit of the application processor's computing power, memory size and available electric power of the battery. This paper proposes a methodology to boost responsiveness of interactive applications by taking advantage of the parallel architecture of mobile devices which, for instance, have dual-core, quad-core or octa-core. To harness the multi-core architecture, it exploits the POSIX thread, a platform-independent thread library to be able to be used in various mobile platforms such as Android, iOS, etc. As a useful application example of the methodology, a heavy matrix calculation function was transformed to a parallelized version which showed around 2.5 ~ 3 times faster than the original version in a real-world usage environment.

  • RC(Remote Control) is a technology that can efficiently control and transfer a variety of user commands to CEs. However, the existing RCs have been required various additional features such as communication between CEs, extension of communication range, low power-consumption and bi-directional communication according to the advent of new types of CE devices and its enhanced performance. Even though RC controller has many customers' requests, it is not a simple solution because most legacies work on IR-based RC. In this paper, we propose RF4CE-based Universal Remote Control Framework using Smartphone in order to solve the many constraints of IR legacies. The proposed R-URC system is designed by RF4CE platform which is a kind of de-facto standard for CE remote control communication. From the verification scenarios using various CEs and smart phone, we can see that the proposed R-URC shows the good practical usage in terms of contents sharing and smart CE control.
