  • This paper is aimed to study the influence of aluminium dross from Thai aluminum casting factory on polypropylene matrix-polymer composite material properties. The summarized experimental results are as follows. An increase in the amount of aluminum dross polymer composite material affected to increase hardness, modulus of elasticity and abrasion resistance. However, the increase of the aluminum dross had no effects to change the yield strength and the melting temperature of the polymer composite material. The aluminum dross also affected to form the crystallinity at $117-122^{\circ}C$ and directly increased the rigid property of the composite materials. The microstructure examination revealed that the aluminum dross was located in a polymer matrix and affected to increase the dark colour of the polymer composite material.

  • Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) in the fresh state is known for its excellent deformability, high resistance to segregation, and use, without applying vibration, in congested reinforced concrete structures characterized by difficult casting conditions. Such a concrete can be obtained by incorporating either mineral or chemical admixtures. This paper presents the results of an investigation to asses the applicability of Abram's law in predicting the compressive strength of SCC to any given age. Abram's law is based on the assumption that the strength of concrete with a specific type of aggregate at given age cured at a prescribed temperature depends primarily on the water-to-cement ratio (W/C). It is doubtful that such W/C law is applicable to concrete mixes with mineral or chemical admixtures as is the case for SCC where water to binder ratio (W/B) is used instead of W/C as the basis for mix design. Strength data of various types of SCC mixtures is collected from different sources to check the performance of Abram's law. An attempt has been made to generalize Abram's law by using various optimization methodologies on collected strength data of various SCC mixtures. A set of generalized equations is developed for the prediction of SCC strength at various ages. The performance of generalized equations is found better than original Abram's equations.

  • This paper presents a fast IP mobility management scheme in heterogeneous networks using the multiple wireless network interlaces. More specifically, in order to minimize the packet loss and handover latency due to handover, the E-HMIPv6, IETF HMIPv6 has been extended, is presented where the multiple tunnels between E-MAP and mobile node are dynamically constructed. E-HMIPv6 is composed of the extension of IETF HMIPv6 MAP, handover procedure, and simultaneous multiple tunnels. In order to demonstrate superior to the proposed method, the NS-2 simulation has done for performance evaluation of TCP and UDP-based application comparison with the existing mobility management method.

  • Post-earthquake observations revealed that seismic performance of beam-column connections in precast concrete structures affect the overall response extensively. Seismic design of precast reinforced concrete structures requires improved beam-column connections to transfer reversed load effects between structural elements. In Turkey, hybrid beam-column connections with welded components have been applied extensively in precast concrete industry for decades. Beam bottom longitudinal rebars are welded to beam end plates while top longitudinal rebars are placed to designated gaps in joint panels before casting of topping concrete in this type of connections. The paper presents the major findings of an experimental test programme including one monolithic and five precast hybrid half scale specimens representing interior beam-column connections of a moment frame of high ductility level. The required welding area between beam bottom longitudinal rebars and beam-end plates were calculated based on welding coefficients considered as a test parameter. It is observed that the maximum strain developed in the beam bottom flexural reinforcement plays an important role in the overall behavior of the connections. Two additional specimens which include unbonded lengths on the longitudinal rebars to reduce that strain demands were also tested. Strength, stiffness and energy dissipation characteristics of test specimens were investigated with respect to test variables. Seismic performances of test specimens were evaluated by obtaining damage indices.

  • This paper describes a second-generation dual sine-grid surface encoder for 2-D position measurements. The surface encoder consisted of a 2-D grid with a 2-D sinusoidal pattern on its surface, and a 2-D angle sensor that detected the 2-D profile of the surface grid The 2-D angle sensor design of previously developed first-generation surface encoders was based on geometric optics. To improve the resolution of the surface encoder, we fabricated a 2-D sine-grid with a pitch of $10{\mu}m$. We also established a new optical model for the second-generation surface encoder that utilizes diffraction and interference to generate its measured values. The 2-D sine-grid was fabricated on a workpiece by an ultra precision lathe with the assistance of a fast tool servo. We then performed a UV-casting process to imprint the sine-grid on a transparent plastic film and constructed an experimental setup to realize the second-generation surface encoder. We conducted tests that demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed surface encoder model.

  • This paper is conducted to compare the seismic design standard of a bridge column such as the Korean Bridge Design Standard(KBDS), EC 8, NZS 3101 and ATC 32. The KBDS adopted the seismic design requirements in 1992. The earthquake magnitude in Korea is compared with those in the west coast of the USA. It may be said that the current seismic design requirements of the KBDS provides design results, that are too conservative especially for transverse reinforcement details and amounts in reinforced concrete columns. This fact usually creates construction problems in concrete casting, due to congestion of transverse reinforcement. Furthermore, the effective stiffness; $I_{eff}$ depends on both the axial load P/$A_gF_{ck}$ and the longitudinal reinforcement ratio $A_{st}/A_g, so it is the conservative to use the effective stiffness I$_{eff}$ than the gross section stiffness Ig. Seismic design for the transverse reinforcement content of the concrete column was analyzed and considered to have an extreme-fiber compression strain, response modification factor, axial load and effective stiffness etc.c.

  • Steel making in Mini Mill consists of three major processing stages: molten steel making in an electric arc fuenace, slab casting in a continuous caster, and hot rolling in a finishing mill. Each processing stage has its own lot grouping criterion. However, these criteria in three stages are conflicting with each other. Therefore, delveloping on efficient lot grouping algorithm to enhance the overall productivity of the Mini Mill is an extremely difficult task. The algorithm proposed in this paper is divided into three steps hierarchically: change grouping, cast grouping, and roll grouping. An efficient charge grouping heuristic is developed by exploiting the characteristics of the orders, the processing constraints and the requirements for the downstream stages. In order to maximaize the productivity of the continuous casters, each cast must contain as many charges as possible. Based on the constraint satisfaction problem technique, an efficient cast grouping heuristic is developed. Each roll consists of two casts satisfying the constraints for rolling. The roll grouping problem is formulated as a weighted non-bipartite matching problem, and an optimal roll grouping algorithm is developed. The proposed algorithm is programmed with C language and tested on a SUN Workstation with real data obtained from the H steel works. Through the computational experiment, the algorithm is verified to yield quite satisfactory solutions within a few minutes.

  • In this paper, Effect of $BaSrTiO_3/Li_2CO_3$ on low temperature sintering and dielectric property of thick films has been investigated for variable capacitor on high frequency. The thick films were fabricated by the tape casting and then the structural and dielectric properties as a function of an addition composition ratio and sintering temperature were studied. For the thick film sintered at $1050^{\circ}C$, it was densified to 96% of $BaSrTiO_3$ theoretical density by the addition of 10 $wt{\cdot}%$ $BaSrTiO_3/Li_2CO_3$. Dielectric constant increased and Curie temperature lowered with the increased of $BaSrTiO_3/Li_2CO_3$ content, which probably can be explained by the substitution of $Ba^{3+},Li^{1+}$ on $RaTiO_3$ lattice. The tunability and dielectric loss of the $BaSrTiO_3/Li_2CO_3$ thick film, sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$, were about 26% and 0.234 at $10{\sim}15MHz$, respectively.

  • LED is standing in the limelight as a light part of the low-carbon green energy. While LEDs are eco-friendly, efficient and durable, extreme heat rises can cause their durability to decrease, with 80% of the power supply being turned into heat energy. Heat radiation systems are important because rising temperatures affect the lifetime of LED elements. Therefore, in this paper, thermal analysis was performed for the shape of heat sink to the LED bulb. Also, it is applied the temperature control systems to our products for optimal performance.
