  • Variable displacement vane-type oil pumps represent one of the most innovative pump types for industrial applications, especially for engine lubrication systems. This paper deals with a modeling method for theoretical flow rate investigation of a typical variable displacement vane-type oil pump. This theoretical model is based on the pump geometric design and dynamic analyses. It can be considered as mandatory steps for a deeper understanding of the pump operation as well as for effectively implementing the pump control mechanisms to satisfy the urgent demands of engine lubrication systems. The developed pump model is finally illustrated by numerical simulations.

  • In this paper, effects of inlet shape on the performance of a submerged cargo pump were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code CFX. The inlet shape, especially the gap between pump and suction well, is an important parameter in a point of view of performances of submerged cargo pump due to its effects on the residual and also hydraulic performance of the pump, respectively. To know the optimized gap, the overall performance degradations were calculated with the gap. In addition to that, the flow field through the gap was investigated to explain the effect of velocity non-uniformity on the performance of the pump impeller.

  • The charge pump in a phase-locked loop is a key block in determining reference spurs of the VCO output signal. To reduce reference spurs, the current mismatch in the charge pump must be minimized. This paper presents a dual compensation method to reduce the current mismatch. The proposed charge pump and PLL were realized in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. Measured current matching characteristics were achieved with less than 1.4% difference and with the current variation of 3.8% in the pump current over the charge pump output voltage range of 0.35-1.35V at 1.8V. The reference spur of the PLL based on the proposed charge pump was measured to be -71dBc.

  • The pressure pulsation due to the gear geometry of the gerotor (generalized rotor) pump mainly occurs in an instant that the chamber of the gerotor enters the delivery port and leaves the suction one. Such a pressure pulsation may result in undesirable vibration and noise of pump components as well as cavitation in hydraulic system. Therefore, it is very important to examine the pressure characteristic of the gerotor pump at its design and analysis stages. In this paper, in order to reduce the pressure pulsation in the gerotor pump, the port plate with the relief grooves is designed by referring to as notch of vane pump and relief groove of piston pump. A series of the theoretical analyses on the pressure pulsation is performed in consideration of various design parameters of the port plate, including the installation positions of the port inlet/outlet and the groove width, and the operating conditions such as rotational velocity and delivery pressure.

  • A gear pump is a type of pump that displaces a volume of fluid by physical or mechanical action, or positive displacement pump. Power is applied to one of the gears and transmitted to a second driven gear via meshing teeth. This paper describes the hydraulic gear pump for an elevator. In gear pump, since geometrically special forms of gear tooth, 'Pulsations' is always caused in the delivery pressure and quantity. In other words, it is found that the number of delivery pressure pulsation per each revolution is always equal to that of the gear-teeth of the gear, which is coincident with the pulsation of the ideal delivery quantity. Some experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the developed pump.

  • The STELLA-2 is a large-scale sodium thermal-hydraulic integral effect test facility and supports the development of PGSFR. The facility adopted Pump Simulation Loop System (PSLS) concept for the mechanical sodium pump in the reference reactor to control and to measure the primary sodium flow. Since the component (mechanical pump) is replaced by the loop, it is very important to evaluate the similarity between the pump and the loop. In this paper, to simulate the characteristic of the mechanical sodium pump, the pressure loss along the various options of the loop was evaluated and the comprehensive validity of each design options was analyzed. Using the similarity criteria based on the Richardson number and Euler number conservation, the PSLS design was finalized and the result was within the acceptable error range. Finally, the result of this study was used for construction of the overall facility, STELLA-2.

Consideration on the rotor design of a claw pump (클로펌프 회전자 설계에 대한 고찰)

  • The claw pump, one of oil-less dry pumps developed to solve problems found in vacuum systems pumped by oil-sealed rotary pumps, has been widely used separately or as a part of compound structure with a roots pump. The claw pump has some merits such as a high pumping speed, a high compression ratio, and relatively little heat generation. The high compression ratio of the claw pump is compression ratio, and relatively little heat generation. The high compression ratio of the claw pump is based on efficient sweeping action of the special type rotor and an intrinsic self-valving mechanism. The contour of the rotor with claw-type blade is designed basically to make two rotors revolve smoothly without touching with each other, and related dimensions are determined by required pumping speed, compression ratio, power demand and diameter of the rotor axis. In this paper the procedure of designing the rotor of the claw pump is described and factors influencing the pump performance are analyzed.

  • This paper introduces a new DC-DC voltage multiplier using a Dickson's charge pump and a modified voltage doubler. The voltage obtained from a conventional Dickson's chrage pump was reused for accelerating the voltage multiplication and the architecture of the proposed voltage multiplier would not decrease the device reliability of DMOS. The proposed 6-stage voltage multiplier generates about 33V with 3V voltage source. To evaluate the proposed voltage multiplier, simulations were performed with Magna DMOS technology. The simulated voltage multiplication agrees well with a theoretical value, therefore, this paper introduces a new fast voltage multiplier with minimum devices.

  • This paper describes an experimental study for heating performance that can be used in R-134a automobile heat pump systems. The heat pump system is widely studied for heating system in zero-emission vehicles to attain both the small power consumption and the effective heating of the cabin. This paper presents the experimental results of the influence on heating capacity and coefficient of performance of heat pump system. Tests were performed with different sizes of internal and external heat exchangers, and refrigerant flow rate was also considered in two-way flow devices. In addition, the heat, air, and water sources with the heat pump system were examined. The experimental results with the heat pump system were used to analyze the impact on performances. The best combination of performance was A-inside heat exchanger, B-outside heat exchanger, and B-flow device, respectively. In addition, a water heat-source was found to give roughly 40% of better performance than an air heat-source heat pump system.

The Effect of High Pressure Chamber's Shape on the Characteristics of Annular Jet Pump (고압실 형상에 따른 환형 제트펌프의 특성)

  • Experimental studies on the characteristics of annular jet pump were carried out in this paper. Jet pump can be used widely for the transportation of solid materials, farm produce and fishes. The effects of high pressure chamber on the characteristics of annular jet pump were sought in this paper. Experiments were done for three shapes of high pressure chamber, and for several lengths of the high pressure chamber. Three types of the high pressure chamber's entrances($90^{\circ}$ single inflow, $45^{\circ}$single inflow, and $45^{\circ}$ double inflow) were tested. Water was used for both the primary fluid and secondary fluid. The results obtained in this study are as follows; $45^{\circ}$double inflow type is the most effective among the tested three types of the high pressure chamber's entrances. The efficiency of jet pump with 400mm of high pressure chamber length is the highest among the chamber lengths tested in this study, thus indicating appropriate chamber length is required to get an efficient.
