  • Background: This study analyzes the effects of the individual's health behavior on the health and the medical demand for the management of health and medical expenses. Methods: This study uses the Korea Health Panel Survey data from 2010 to 2015. We utilize the panel ordered logit model and the panel Tobit model with the subjective health status and the medical expenses as the dependent variables. Results: Chronic diseases would cause the deterioration of his or her health and the increase in medical expenses. Smoking and drinking alcohol would deteriorate one's health. The total amount of cigarettes increases medical expenses. Exercises could make people healthier, whereas excessive exercise might increase medical expenses. Private health insurance would increase medical expenses. Conclusion: Since health could reduce the medical expenses, people should promote one's health by changing one's behavior for health.

  • In this paper we used the KLIPS(Korean Labor and Income Panel tudy) data that surveyed from 2006(wave 9) to 2009(wave 12). Other previous studies are concerned with the panel attrition in the early wave, but this study classifies the response pattern and investigates some factors that influence panel attrition when the panel tends to stabilize. It was revealed that panel attrition was influenced by relocation and housing type through the logit model. Besides it was appeared that panel attrition was affected by the monthly living expenses and the overall household income through the decision tree.

  • This paper analyzes Korean residential tenure choice for house which is the most important in Korean households' assets. Data used in the analysis is the data of Korean Labor and Income Panel Study for the period from 1998 to 2006 and with 2341 households. In this paper, a household chooses a housing tenure mode, either by renting or by owing house. We use a mixed-logit panel model as an estimation model to take into consideration household's heteroscedasticity of preference in tenure choice. It turns out that the heteroscedasticity is significant in households' tenure choice behavior, implying that Korean housing policy emphasizing supply side should consider the demand side.

  • After retirement, retirees are exposed to many changes. But, one of the most influential factor on retirement is Social network. Social network is making various relationships with many people. This consists of functional feature and structure feature. This study to systematically investigate social network changes of pre- and post-retirement by using two features. We utilized 2008~2012 'Longitudinal study of ageing' and selected 1,569 retirees above 45 years old as a final subject. This study used STATA 12.0 program for analysing frequency and descriptive statistic. At first, we analyzed personal characteristics and affecting factor on social network of retirees through Panel logit model and fixed effects regression model. Second, we applied multiple panel logit model and fixed effects model to learn factor affecting employment and social network changes. We found that a number of social activities affects social network in the structure feature and support from sons and daughters also influences social network in the functional feature after retirement.

  • It would cause a serious problem in the panel data when panel attrition is concentrated on certain socioeconomic groups. Using the GOMS, this study investigates whether there exists non-random attrition bias in the data and seeks for feasible solutions to minimize the bias. The results of logit analyses show that panel attrition in the GOMS results mainly from surveying system but not from the surveyed. Therefore, the result suggests to develop well-organized management skill and systems as well as to construct weighting methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate what factors affect cyber-delinquency after examining the previous research focusing on the general strain theory and the delinquency opportunity theory in the existing studies. And as adolescents move from middle school to high school, this study is intended to analyze what factors affect cyber-delinquency from a longitudinal perspective using KCYPS(Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey) elementary 4th grade fourth and seventh data. The adolescence cyber-delinquency probability of occurrence were analyzed through the panel logit fixed-effect model using STATA. And then the cyber-delinquency frequency of adolescents were analyzed through the panel tobit random-effect model. As a result of analyzing the factors affecting cyber-delinquency frequency, Adult media commitment, computer use time, and cell phone dependency increased cyber-delinquency frequency. On the other hand, among the parenting attitudes, the attitude of supervising attentively and adolescents' age-increasing decreased cyber-delinquency frequency.

  • As Korean society grows rapidly older, a systematic analysis of the determinants of labor supply behavior among the elderly becomes a prerequisite for designing more effective senior employment policies and income security regime for the elderly. Literatures review shows that a majority of previous researches have been ignoring the problem of "endogenous predictor" especially when it comes to the estimation of the effects of the two key variables, education and non-labor income, on labor supply decisions among older people. They have failed to take into consideration the unobserved heterogeneities which might affect both labor supply decisions of the elderly and their levels of education and non-labor income, which means, according to some econometric literatures, that the estimated coefficients of the two predictors can be inconsistent. The paper tries to redress the endogeneity problem by employing a panel logit model with data from the 1st. to 4th. wave of the KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Survey of Ageing) to estimate the effects of key predictors on the probability of getting jobs among older people(ages of 60 or older). Both a random effects and a fixed effects model reaffirms that non-labor income has a negative effect on the chances of being employed. And a random effects model shows that the effect of education is also negative, as has frequently been reported by previous studies. That means the effects of education and non-labor income on elderly employment remain negative after the effect of unobserved heterogeneities is controled for and the problem of endogenous predictors is redressed through an appropriate panel data analysis. These findings mean, in turn, that when Korean baby-boomers, who had acquired an unprecedentedly higher level of education and were expected to enjoy ever-larger amount of non-labor income than their preceding generations, retires in near future, their incentives to work will become much weaker and the lack of labor-force and the burden of financing increased public pension expenditure will become more troublesome. The paper concludes with recommending some policy initiatives helpful to solve these expected problems.

  • This paper explores whether or not a minimum wage increase can do much to alleviate working poor. For this purpose, I analyze transitions from working poor to working non-poor and to unemployment or non-economically active states, using KLIPS (Korea Labor and Income Panel Study). This study uses the multilevel multinomial logit model to control unobserved individual heterogenous characteristics. It finds that a minimum wage increase tends to cause a higher probability of transitions from working poor to working non-poor. It is also discovered that a minimum wage increase is not negatively related with the persistence of the working state. It is concluded that minimum wage increases are likely to be effective in improving the living standards of the 'working poor'.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing positive subjective health awareness of middle school-age multicultural adolescents in Korea. Methods: This study used data from the fourth to sixth waves of the Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute. In this study, a panel logit model analysis was performed using the Eviews 8.0 program (p<.050). Results: Socioeconomic status (r=.02, t=2.13, p=.033), body satisfaction (r=.71, t=1.97, p=.048), and depression (r=-.74, t=2.35, p=.018) influenced positive subjective health awareness in multicultural adolescents. When multicultural characteristics were entered into a statistical model with environmental and personal characteristics, multicultural characteristics did not have a significant influence on positive subjective health awareness. Conclusion: Environmental, personal, and multicultural characteristics were related to positive subjective health awareness in multicultural adolescents; thus, an integrated approach considering those variables is recommended. Nursing interventions and educational programs are needed to improve the psychological status of multicultural adolescents and reduce prejudice about them. In addition, nurses need to be sensitive to multicultural characteristics and the developmental characteristics of multicultural adolescents.

  • Background: Population aging is a serious problem in Korea. And we have experienced a rapid increase in the health expenditures of the elderly. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of having a usual source of care (USC) for the elderly. Methods: This study used the Korea Health Panel Survey data of 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2018. The sample was the person who answered the USC questions among the elderly. The panel logit model was used to analyze the determinants of having USC and the panel simultaneous equation model was used to analyze the effect of having USC among the elderly on the medical expenses, medical utilization, and subjective health status. Results: The estimation result shows that age, income, marriage, and so forth turn out to be the factors of having USC. Having the clinic level USC is estimated to reduce the health care utilization and the health expenditure and to improve the subjective health status. Conclusion: It is expected that the result of our analysis will provide evidence for encouraging having USC.
