고려인삼과 미국삼의 형질특성 및 형질간 상관관계 (The Characteristics and Correlation Coefficients of Characters in Panax ginseng, Violet-stem Variant and Yellow. berry Variant, and Panax quinquefolium.)

  • This study was carried out to obtain the basic information for the development of new ginseng varieties. The two variants (violet-stem variant and yellow-berry variant) of Korean ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium L.) of one to four-year were used for this study. All of the characteristics, such as leaf length, leaf width, petiol length, number of leaves per plant, number of leaflets per plants, stem diameter, stem length, number of stems per plant, root length, primary root length, root diameter, root weight were determined and correlations among them were estimated. The results obtained were summarized as follows. 1. Leaf length, petiol length, number of leaves per plant, and number of leaflets per plant of Panax ginseng, violet-stem variant and yellow-berry variant, were larger than those of Panax quinquefolium at all of the plant ages, while leaf width was wider in Panax quinquefolium. 2. The length of stem of Panax quinquefolium was shorter than that of Panax ginseng, and the frequency of multi-stem plants at 4-year-old ginseng was larger in violet-stem variant than in Panax quinquefolium and yellow-berry variant. 3. In the characteristics of ginseng root, the primary root length of Panax ginseng, violet-stem variant and yellow-berry variant, were less than that of Panax quinquefolium, while root weight, root diameter, and umber of secondary root related to yield were larger in Panax ginseng. 4. The root weight per plant related to the yield had positive and highly significant correlations with stem diameter, leaf length, leaf length, leaf width, number of compound leaves and leaflets in Panax ginseng and Panax quinguefolium. 5. The root weight related to the wield of ginseng had been influenced to stem diameter, leaf length, and leaf width directly, and number of compound leaves and leaflets indirectly. 6. The number, total area and activity of stomate per mm2 of Panax quinquefolium were more, larger and stronger than those of Panax ginseng.

  • This study was carried out to compare the root yields, root characters, saponin and ginsenosides contents of 6-year-old p. ginseng and p. quinquefolium. These two ginseng species showed difference in the diameter and ten비h of mainroot. The main root length or p. quinquefolium was shorter than that of p. ginseng, whereas Jakyung-jong and Hwangsook-jong of P. ginseng showed similar root length. Proximate composition were similar between the two species, however, crude fibercontent was significantly higher in main and lateral root of Jakyung-jong and Hwang sook-jong of P ginseng than P quinquefolium. In regard to mineral contents of root, P ginseng contained more Ca and Mn and less Fe and Al than P. quinquefolium. P. quinquefolium contained more of Rbl and Rd of protopanaxadiol saponin, and less or Re, $Rg_1$ and $Rg_2$ of protopanaxatriol saponin than P ginseng. However, no Rf was detected in the p. quinquefolium. Key words Panax ginseng, Panax quinquefolium, ginseng character, ginsenoside.

Stem-leaves of Panax as a rich and sustainable source of less-polar ginsenosides: comparison of ginsenosides from Panax ginseng, American ginseng and Panax notoginseng prepared by heating and acid treatment

  • Background: Ginsenosides, which have strong biological activities, can be divided into polar or less-polar ginsenosides. Methods: This study evaluated the phytochemical diversity of the saponins in Panax ginseng (PG) root, American ginseng (AG) root, and Panax notoginseng (NG) root; the stem-leaves from Panax ginseng (SPG) root, American ginseng (SAG) root, and Panax notoginseng (SNG) root as well as the saponins obtained following heating and acidification [transformed Panax ginseng (TPG), transformed American ginseng (TAG), transformed Panax notoginseng (TNG), transformed stem-leaves from Panax ginseng (TSPG), transformed stem-leaves from American ginseng (TSAG), and transformed stem-leaves from Panax notoginseng (TSNG)]. The diversity was determined through the simultaneous quantification of the 16 major ginsenosides. Results: The content of ginsenosides in NG was found to be higher than those in AG and PG, and the content in SPG was greater than those in SNG and SAG. After transformation, the contents of polar ginsenosides in the raw saponins decreased, and contents of less-polar compounds increased. TNG had the highest levels of ginsenosides, which is consistent with the transformation of ginseng root. The contents of saponins in the stem-leaves were higher than those in the roots. The transformation rate of SNG was higher than those of the other samples, and the loss ratios of total ginsenosides from NG (6%) and SNG (4%) were the lowest among the tested materials. In addition to the conversion temperature, time, and pH, the crude protein content also affects the conversion to rare saponins. The proteins in Panax notoginseng allowed the highest conversion rate. Conclusion: Thus, the industrial preparation of less-polar ginsenosides from SNG is more efficient and cheaper.

일년생 인삼의 형질변이 (Variation of Agronomic Characters in the Yearling of Ginseng Plants)

  • 인삼변이계통의 선발에 필요한 기초자료를 얻고저 자경종, 황숙종, 미국종의 일년생에 대하여 여러 가지 농경형질의 변이를 조사하였던 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. Panax quinquefolium이 Panax ginseng에 비하여 모든 형질의 변이가 큰 경향이었다. 2. Panax ginseng에 있어서는 자경종이 황숙종보다 형질변이가 크게 나타났다. 3. Panax ginseng, Panax quinquefolium 공히 경장, 엽장, 근장 등의 형질은 변이가 큰 반면에 경직경, 근직경 등의 형질은 비교적 적게 변화하였다.

Comparison of Ginsenoside Contents in Different Parts of Korean Ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer)

  • The present study was conducted to investigate the ginsenoside profiles of the main root, root hair, and leaf of ginseng in order to demonstrate their possible application in medicine. The total ginsenoside content of the leaf was up to 12 times than that in the main root, and the content of protopanaxadiol groups was higher than that of protopanaxatriol groups in all the samples. The leaf was shown to contain high amounts of ginsenosides Rb3 and Rh1, whereas the main root contained large amounts of ginsenosides Rb1 and Rc. Moreover, Rb2, Rb3, and Rg1 were only detected in the root hair, leaf, and main root, respectively. The ginsenoside Re content of Panax ginseng leaf and root hair was 2.6~4 times higher than that of the main root. Therefore, the results indicate that the ginsenoside content of Panax ginseng is higher in the leaf and root hair, and lower in the main root.

  • The disease development of root-rot [pathogen:Cylindrocarpon destruction (Zinssm.) Scholten] occurred in 2-year old ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) was investigated in the continuous (the first cultivation: 1978∼1982, 2nd cultivation: 1990∼1993 and abolished in 1993 due to replanting problem) and replanted cultivation (period of cultivation: 1980∼1984). In the continuous cultivation, incidences of root-rot were 0.7% on May 3, 48.6% on May 24, and 95.8% on June 14, respectively. In the replanted cultivation, no symptom was observed on May 3 and disease incidence was generally lower compared with the continuous cultivation. On the aerial part of the ginseng infected by C. desiccates, the end and/or margin of leaves were changed to dark reddish color that appeared for behind the root-rot symptom. In this field, the longitudinal growth of lateral root was more inhibited than in the case of the replanted cultivation by C. destmctans. The inhibition rate of rootlet growth was 37.3% in the continuous cultivation as compared with that of replanted cultivation at June 14. Though lesions of root-rot were formed all over the roots, 61.2% of the lesions was positioned within 6 cm under the rhizome. 고려인삼과 미국삼의 부위별 Saponin 함량 (Saponin Contents of Root and Aerial Parts in Panax ginseng and Panax quinquefolium)

  • 인삼 성분육종의 기초자료를 얻고자 동일한 생육환경하에서 생육한 4년생 이종인삼의 부위별 조사포닌 및 각 ginsenoside의 함량을 분석하였던 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 잎과 줄기에 함유된 조사포린 함량은 미국삼이 고려인삼인 자경종, 황숙종보다 많았으며 줄기보다는 잎에서 조사포닌함량이 높았다. 2. 뿌리의 조사포닌함량은 잎, 줄기와 같이 미국삼이 고려인삼인 자경종과 황숙종보다 높은 경향이었다. 3. 잎과 줄기 및 뿌리에 함유된 조사포닌의 panaxatriol 및 panaxadiol계 saponin의 함량비(PT/PD)는 잎과 줄기에서는 1.5~3.7:1. triol 계사포닌이 많은 반면 뿌리에서는 1:1~1.5로서 diol계사포닌이 많았다. 4. 각품종 공히 잎과 줄기에 함유된 ginsenoside종류에는 차이가 없었으나 -Rg$_2$, -Re, -Rc 등은 줄기에, -Rg$_1$, -Rd, -Rb$_1$은 잎에 다량 함유되어있었다. 5. 인삼뿌리에 함유된 ginsenoside는 -Rg$_1$, -Re, -Rb$_1$ 등이 많이 함유되었으며 고려인삼에서는 -Re가, 미국삼에서는 -Rb$_1$이 가장 많이 검출되었는데 특히 미국삼에서는 -Ro, -Ra, -Rf, -Rg$_2$가 검출되지 않았다.

고려인삼, 미국삼 및 죽절삼의 생육 및 형태적 특성 비교 (Comparison of Plant Growth and Morphological Characteristics Among the Korean Ginseng, the American Ginseng and the Bamboo Ginseng)

  • An investigation was conducted to ascertain the basic information on characteristics of growth and morphological characters among the Korean (Panax. ginseng), the American (Panax. quinquefolium) and the Bamboo (Panax. japonicus) ginseng. In aerial parts growth of the ginseng species by age, The Korean ginseng and American ginseng's stem and leaf growth was alike in 2-4 years old, but growth cycle changed in 6 years old. The Korean ginseng was more vigorous than the American ginseng. The Korean ginseng roots were highly observed in ratio of red skin roots among three species, whereas The American ginseng roots were highly infected by root rot. It seems to be variable depending on growing stage and species. The Korean ginseng flowered about the middle of May, the American ginseng early June, and the Bamboo ginseng was late of May, The berry color of the ginseng species was observed, The Korean and American ginseng's mature berry color was red, The Bamboo ginseng's berry was three type of color and shape. In root characteristics of the seedling, Korean (p. ginseng), American (p. quinquefolium) ginseng's root shape was similarity in type, the bamboo ginseng showed different type, which root length and root weight was smaller than those of ginseng. In morphological characters of Leaf surface, pollen, and stoma, the Korean ginseng and American ginseng had crystal rosette on epidermis cell, but the Bamboo ginseng didn't has crystal rosette. Pollen shape observed tricolpate pollen and size was media type among the ginseng species, and also guard cell was anomocytic type, which were observed by scanning electronic microscope.

  • 본 연구는 Panax속의 유용형질을 탐색하고, 고려인삼과 미국삼, 그리고 종간 잡종인 F$_1$ 식물체의 생육, 형태적 특성, 수량, 적변율 및 ginsenoside함량 등을 조사하였던 바, 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 고려인삼은 적변 발생율이 연생이 높아질수록 증가하였으나, 미국삼은 적변이 발생되지 않았으며 F$_1$잡종식물체에서도 적변이 발생되지 않았다. 2. 고려인삼과 미국삼의 잡종인 F$_1$잡종식물체 인삼의 개화기는 미국삼보다 빠르고, 자경종보다는 늦었다. 3. 고려인삼과 미국삼을 교배한 F$_1$ 묘삼의 근형질 특성은 미국삼과 고려인삼에 비하여 근장과 근중이 컸다. 4. 잡종 F$_1$의 ginsenosides 함량은 대부분이 고려인삼과 미국삼의 중간 정도였으나, 양친보다 Re는 많았고 Rg$_1$, Rg$_2$ 는 적게 정량 분석되었으며, Rf가 고려인삼에서는 검출되었으나 미국삼 및 F$_1$잡종식물체에서는 검출되지 않았다.

인삼(Panax ginseng) 근단의 색소본 분화에 관한 미세구조적 연구 (Ultrastructural Study on Differentiation of Plastid in Panax ginseng Root Tip)

  • The ultrastructural changes and differentiation mechanism of chromoplasts and leucoplasts from Proplastids in root tip cells of Panax ginseng seedlings were studied with transmission electron microscope. Initial cells have so many proplastids with a few osmiophilic droplets and a lot of mitochon dria at early stage of germination, therefore electron density of cytoplasm is generally higher than that of the other cells just like periblem, plerome and root cap. Proplastids are observed in the initial cells, but only leucoplasts appeared in the central root cap cells. Because root cap cells are derived ultimately from initial cells, the cell organelles in the root cap cells are directly related by those of initial cells. This result postulates that leucoplast is diferentiated from proplastid, and this is the same with other's concepts. On the contrary, the precise observations of chromoplast with crystalline inclusions in the peripheral root cap cells can conclude the direct pathway of chromoplast development from proplastid. Because of the differences of these result from those of other experiments, new scheme of plastid development, direct differentiation of chromoplast from proplastid, can be postulated. And this is the originality of this research on the differentiation of plastids.
