Desorption reaction characteristics of the used activated carbons collected from painting process in Shiwha/Banwal industrial complex were investigated. Thermogravimetric analyzer was used to investigate the desorption characteristics. Activation energies and reaction orders for desorption reaction characteristics of used activated carbons were estimated by employing Friedman method and Freeman-Carroll method. In the used activated carbons collected from painting process, it was found that the activation energies were 20.6~43.2 kJ/mol in Friedman method and 12.3~26.5 kJ/mol in Freeman-carroll method, and reaction orders were 0.1~1.7.
This thesis investigates the relationship of the 18th century European landscape painting and the scientific (optical) instruments like Camera obscura and Camera lucida. Based on the fact that some landscape painters, 'veduta painters', at that times might have used or surely used these optical instruments in their sketches/drawings, it explores the reasons for using them and their working process with them, and analyses the advantages/disadvantages here as well as the aesthetic problems in the cases of the Italian painter Antonio Canaletto (or Canal, 1697-1768), the British topographic artist Thomas Sandby (1721-98) and the British chemist/optician Willian Henry Fox Talbot (1800-77). Advantages of using Camera obscura/lucida are rapidity in drawing, truthful representation of nature/reality and 'accurate' fulfilling of perspectival structures. But partly 'inaccurate' or simplified depictions as disadvantages can be traced in drawings/sketches made by using these instruments. Another problem lie in the subordination of the artistic work to the technical devices, but for artists still remain the creative working process in painting like coloring, tone and chiaroscuro etc. Therefore, it can be maintained that the optical instruments have played a role of the subsidiary tool as an aid to painting.
Pliny the Elder said that multiple cultures agree that the painting began as a shadow trace. A daughter of Butades, the potter in Corinth, traced an outline around a man's shadow, and it was the very beginning of painting. In this anecdote, the profile, i. e. the portrait substitutes body of the absent lover. It makes the absent body present and replaces his place. In this context Hans Belting put the anthropological value to this visual practice. Human being made images to cope actively with the shock of death and the disappearing of body. With the aid of the representation of the bodily presence, the image struggles to resist the death. This paper is a study on the critical meaning of representation in the context of bodily survival by image. The representation is the paradoxical trick of consciousness, an ability to see something as 'there' and 'not there' at the same time. So the connection between image and the body would be suspicious. Although this relation was tight in the ancient shadow painting and the medieval effigies, the modern visual practice forsakes this connection and exposes the trick of representation. It insists that image was not real and even expels the medieval visual practice from the boundary of fine arts. The genealogy of the portraiture is formed by two different visual practices. The belief and the disbelief in the image are observed in the process of representation and anti-representation, and this ambivalence transforms the ontological meaning of portrait in the visual representation.
This study examined similarity between white porcelain models and dress silhouette of women painted in genre painting in late Joseon period, and found that gourd bottles that are one of main porcelain styles are very similar with dress silhouette of women presented in genre painting in Joseon period; that is, bottle necks of gourd bottles and women's waist, voluminous bottles and erotically full hips, the length of skirts which showed underwear dress and height of porcelain's bottom, waist panel winding slim waist and wide edge of porcelain's mouth. As images are personal mental process of potters who were not socially controlled, they used dress as an indirect means of women's bodies for the subjects of images that are obtained through direct and indirect experiences of the persons who perceive. It indicates that they intended to make their ceramic works express women's dressing style through images of porcelain's models. Such images were sensual, but not superficial. It is suggested that they were influenced by the society which considered ethical experimental mind and practicality of the governing class of that time who enjoyed it metaphorically, but not impudent.
We are in the process of the deepening of the informationalized society. Such a phenomenon(of deepening of the informationalized society) means that human being is surrounded by a linguistic or semiological environment instead of realistic experience. And it is concerned with the visual design composed by the visual languages and semiotics of Arts. Because the visual design is a kind of the linguisticsmion using the visual formation. This penomena necessarily brings the expansion of the quatity of information and accompanies the simplification of messages. Therefore when we apply the simplicity resulting from the ideality of KYEORE painting(the folk Art of Korea), it can be cotribute to those who should be in the center of semiological environment more deeply as a source to maximize the effect of communication, which is the conclusion of this study. In sort, the characteristics of our KYEORE painting is the ideal expression. There are found not a few problems such as the depiction of forms, the perspective representation, the chiaroscuro, the expression of material if we evaluate them from the western formative viewpoint. But the depiction of the fact is less direct than the ideal expression itself, is likely to be much complicated, and can be far away from the world of reality. Because it is just the first step for satisfying the ideal images in man. In the composition of KYEORE painting is dominated by the rules nonprescription of time amd place, colloquialism of the meaning, distinction maximization. They are all the compositive characteristics resulting from the ideality. If these characteristics are modulated intelligently to the current thoughts, they will help to build the new visual communication system of Korea which has more direct and fast absorption force.

Life Cycle Assessment(LCA) and Design for Environment(DfE) method were applied to design the environmentally sound manufacturing process of f31k lift in this study. Not only external movement of LCA and DfE method in the legal and systemic phase, but also active researches of those in the development phase of case study and application to the industrial field, have been going on. In concretely, the manufacturing processes of the folk lift generating the most environmental impact were examined by applying LCA method, and the environmentally sound manufacturing process was designed by applying, DfE method to the processes. As the results of LCA, environmental impacts for the eco-toxicity and human toxicity of seven major environmental categories were in high value, and so be in the cutting & welding process and painting process among the manufacturing processes. High solid paints, increasing the solid content of the existing solvent paints used in painting process, were developed to reduce the environmental impacts generated in the painting process. By utilizing the high solid paints, about 20% of environmental impacts (as environmental index of LCA) could be reduced.
The purpose of this study is to develop fashion cultural products that contain an example of cultural symbolism, which is based on the results of iconological analysis seen on imaginary animals. The method of research was to derive design ideas through a verbal association method, using the technique of mind map as based on the iconological analysis results. In the scarf design, four auspicious animals were used as the main motifs, and the background elements that appeared with each folk painting were used as sub-motifs for each of the four animals. In this case, the Yong was expressed with an image of clouds and flames as sub-motifs, and was strongly represented by the presence of a contrast color combination. In what follows, the Bonghwang was used with the sun and feathers in a stable structure due to its four-way arrangement, and was expressed with its soft light tone. The Shingoo was used with blue and khaki colors of dull and deep tone, and the image of aquatic plants and lotus were used. Finally, with the Kirin was represented by a symmetrical structure as characterized with a dull toned color and square border that provides a sense of stability. The clutch bags were as generally expressed using simple animal motifs, and were composed of a uniform motif and color. The design process used the Illustrator CS6 to perform motifs design. In the end, the process finally developed the actual product of eight scarves and four clutch handbags.
Julio Romano decorated the facade of his house in Mantua with a statue of Mercury to give expressions to his ideas on painting. Hereby the painter from Rome could show his home to the world as that of a painter. To be concrete, Mercury was the planet god to which visual artists belonged, and so was basically related to visual arts. In his role to deliver diverse features of art works Mercury could also convey concepts and emotions expressed in a picture to the viewer. The power of a painting to arouse certain emotions or move the mind of the viewer was further connected to the role of Mercury as the guide of the human soul. This function again related the Roman god to the characteristic of a portrait to present absent persons to the viewer. Above the statue of Mercury, a Lucian head of the god is seen, so that they together form the central axis of the facade. This seems to emphasize that the theme of the facade decoration was the powerful persuasive forces of eloquence. The two masks on the left could then refer to sources of eloquence, I.e. various beautiful expressions of a language and its generative process. On the other hand, the masks on the right could represent consequences of eloquence, for instance, prudence, evil effects which come about to imprudent listeners, and other influences on listeners. Finally, it would be useful to remind us of a line from On Architecture by Leon Battista Alberti. According to the humanist architect parts of a building which are seen from the outside, like a facade, should be appropriately designed, since the decoration of a house could play a significant role to enhance the fame and honor of the family and its fatherland. This theory of Alberti could have provided the foundation to the facade decoration of the Casa Pippi which proudly presented the profession of painting to the public in visual form.

Painting and writing are exceedingly different in the way they are visually express. However, if one were to trace the roots of both painting and writing, one would discover the two have the same origins. At one time, both painting and writing fulfilled the function portraying mutual or reciprocal messages to the masses. On the other hand, after the time of medieval manuscript and typography, they were separated completely into image and text. Today, the images are interpreted into the text. Meanwhile, the text better communicates its ideas to the masses through additional support of the simultaneous image. The joint use of the shaping of mutual exchanges between literature and visual art is being enlivened between scholars through their tendency to converse or communicate through the media. Moreover, the visual configuration and characters that strike into the new media are one of the various uses and the significantly important methods of deliberative communication that are necessary for hypertext functioning. In the following text, I will expande and develope the historical communication scheme and the process of modification of painting and writing, lead the origination of modern new-pictograph.
Cubism is a style that led the way to proclaim a new era of 20th century's art and contemporarily had an influence on several trends of thoughts. Geographically it formed Czech Cubism exerting an effect upon thoughts and plastic art of the progressive art group which showed activity around Prague, Czech in 1911, later for 10 years, it was developed as an unique form of which origin cannot be traced inside and outside Europe and expressed its own plastic art world in craft, furniture, painting, architecture, etc. The object of this study is to pull out the expressive characteristics showed especially in furniture design among Czech Cubism around interrelationship with painting, craft and architecture. The scope of study is to bring out the characteristics about the examples which 7 designers such as Josef Gocar, Pavel Janak, etc., who were representative designers of furniture design of Czech Cubism for 15 years from 1910 to 1925. The method of study is to investigate the origin of Czech Cubism by means of primitive elements of Africa, traces of Islamic architectures, and Czech traditional architectural motive, and the development process of Czech Cubism was arranged around the artist and exhibitions which led this current. After being synthesized the characteristics showed in painting, craft, architecture of Czech Cubism on the basis of the result of this study, the expressive characteristics of furniture design of Czech Cubism were brought out. As a result, the expressive characteristics of furniture design of Czech cubism are indicated in a large way as follow; 1) symbolic characteristic based on primitive plastic art, 2) dynamic characteristic by dividing form, 3) ethnic decorative characteristic combined with national motive. The significance of furniture design of Czech Cubism is not only to accept positively and digest the progressive trend of modern art, that is to say, Paris Cubism but also to succeed in recreate it in its own national style, to play a role to offer another motive to post modern design development at the end of 20th century and by means of these examples to provide the necessity and the base of more profound study in the future.
