  • This experiment was carried in order to compare some propagation methods and the effective components in the root of Paeonia albiflora pallas, Paeonia moutan Sims and Paeonia albiflora pallas root grafted with Paeonia mouton sims The optimum seeding time of August 20 to september 10 for increasing germination ratio. The growing and developing of Paeonia albiflora Pall. for root dividing methods was advantageous to practice at Autum than at spring season. The shoot cutting method during the flowering time was proper to increase the rooting ratio with the aid of Ruton, the plant growth regulator but not emerged of apical bud. The grafting stages between the Paeonia albiflora pall. and Paeonia moutan Sims was available to practice during the September for increasing the thickness growth of root. Among the effective components of the paeony the paeoniflorin was shown high, while paeonol in paeony moutan. The paeoniflorin of herbaceous paeony / paeony moutan was increased about 75.9% than herbaceous paeony alone, and the other compoents are similar to those of herbaceous paeony root.

  • To compare the contents of well-known effective constituents, paeoniflorin, albiflorin and benzoic acid, of Korean paeony roots cultivated at different regions, this study was to provide the basic information for the quality evaluation of paeony roots. HPLC analysis showed that the paeoniflorin contents of white paeony roots of 3 years grown at Eui-seong gun, Kyungpook was the highest of 2.06% and red paeony roots of 3 years grown at Im-sil gun, Junpook was the lowest of 1.33%. The highest level of albiflorin contents was 2.04% of red paeony root grown at Ul-jin gun, Kyungpook, while the lowest levels were 0.05% of Eui-seong gun, Kyungpook and 0.06% of Im-shil gun, Junpook. The highest level of benzoic acid contents was 0.12% of red paony roots grown at Choung-do gun, Kyungpook and that grown at Ul-jin gun, Kyungpook was the lowest. Based on the average of three available constituents, the paeony roots cultivated at Kyungpook province was the highest contents of 2.03%, while 1.47% at Junpook province. These results suggest that Kyungpook province is the best region for the cultivation of white and red paeony roots, the combining of three available constituents would be more accurate than use of paeoniflorin only.

  • To investigate identification of species distribution state, population density of plant parasitic nematodes and damaged state by parasitism of nematodes with soil samples taken from major cultivating area of medicinal herbs in Kyungbuk districts are summarized as follow; total species belonging to genera in families were identified from 43 different medicinal herbs. The dominant nematode species on medicinal herbs was Meloidogyne hapla by 55.6% of field infection. Damaged state by parasitizm of Root-knot nematode, M. hapla, M. incognita are severed 15 medical plant except P. japonica, infected field were in 54.5~88.0%, and highered in population densities of 2nd larvae, Gall, Egg sac. Percentage of yield-decrease were 57.8% in A. gigas, 49.1% in P.japonica. Lighten effect of M. spp. by cropping system were lowered in population density in Rice+Paeony than Paeony+Paeony in paddy field, and also lowered in Sesame+Paeony or one year fallowing after harvest Paeony than Red pepper+Pseony, Paeony+Paeony in upland field.

  • A new paeony variety 'Euiseongjakyak' was developed by Gyeongbug Provincial Rural Development Administration in 1993. This variety was selected from pure lint selection. It is characterized by red flower of single type, deep white flesh colour, straight and big radixs. When compared with 'Punggi jerye' a check variety, it is more resistant to lodging, disease and insect injury, and outyielded by 32% in total radix and 17% in marketable radix during 3 years regional performance trials. In the radix, the content of starch and sugar was higher by $9.8\sim12.22%$, crude protein and ash was similar and fiber was lower by 1.17% compared to 'Punggi jerye'.

  • Paeony flowers to separate substances contained in the ETOH extract the polyphenol materials sympathetic to the HPLC, anti-aging and whiting used in the cosmetics extract and comparing the results follows. Extracted by a different way to keep the flowers found in the experiment, after 1 year when stored frozen material and did not show changes in appearance. Concentrated extract by HPLC, investigated the content of the type of polyphenol naringin, sinapic acid, methyl gallate, syringic acid were detected, including 11 kinds. Learn anti-aging effect in the experiment for the EtOH 80% extract showed excellent efficacy in the remaining conditions were low. The whitening effect Peony Flower extract higher than arbutin paeoniflorin was the main ingredient.

  • In order to establish the anti-inflammatory cellular mechanism of the paeony root(Paeonia lactiflora, Pall, Paeoniaceae), the constituents including paeoniflorin, albiflorin, (+)-catechin, paeonol, benzoic acid and methyl gallate were evaluated for their effects on arachidonate and NO metabolism. Among the compounds tested, only paeonol weakly inhibited cyclooxygenase-2-mediated $PGE_2$ production from LPS-treated RAW 264.7 cells. (+)-Catechin and methyl gallate weakly inhibited inducible nitric oxide synthase-mediated NO production from the same cell line. In particular, methyl gallate significantly inhibited 5-lipoxygenase from RBL-l cells with an $IC_{50}$ of 8.4 ${\mu}M$. These results suggest that the inhibition of these components on arachidonate and NO metabolism may contribute at least in part to anti-inflammatory mechanism of the paeony root.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the characteristics of weeds occurring in paeony field in June and July, 2015 in Uiseong, Cheongsong of Kyungbuk province, and Hwasun, Jangheung, Gangjin of Jeonnam province. In total paeony field, there were 35 families and 105 species, including 30 species of Asteraceae, nine species of Poaceae, eight species of Polygonaceae, and each five species of Fabaceae and Convolvulaceae, By life style, there were 49 species of annuals, 27 species of winter annuals and 24 species of perennials. In Kyeongbuk province, 30 families and 75 species were found including 20 species of Asteraceae, seven species of Poaceae, six species of Polygonaceae, each four species of Brassicaceae, Fabaceae and Convolvulaceae, three species of Euphorbiaceae. By life style, there were 35 species of annuals, 21 species of winter annuals and 19 species of perennials. In Jeonnam province, 34 families and 88 species were found including 23 species of Asteraceae, seven species of Poaceae, eight species of Polygonaceae, six species of Fabaceae and four species of Scrophulariaceae. By life style, there were 43 species of annuals, 15 species of winter annuals and 25 species of perennials. Therefore, there are various occurrences of annual, annual, and perennial weeds in peony fields, and weed control system should be set up accordingly.
