  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effects On the lymphedema patients of sponge padding and the correlation between the rate of edema reduction and downward shifting of bandages. Fifty secondary lymphedema patients with no infection, active cancer, limitation of movement, pain or drugs were randomly assigned to two groups: a sponge padding group, and a cotton padding group. Complex decongestive therapy was applied for 2 weeks. In each group the volume of the ankle, mid-calf, knee, and mid-thigh and downward shifting of bandages at the thigh was measured with measuring tape. The reduction of volume and downward shifting of bandages were analyzed by the unrelated t-test and the Pearson Correlation Test. The results were as follows: 1. In comparison between the sponge padding group and the cotton padding group, there was no significant difference in volume except in the thigh area. The edema volume was reduced significantly to $37.77{\pm}31.15%$ at the thigh with sponge padding after treatment (p<.05). 2. Bandage shifted 10.12 cm with cotton padding, but only shifted 2.85 cm when sponge padding was used. Sponge padding had an excellent effect in preventing the shifting of bandages. There was a significant difference in the amount of shifting that occurred with each type of padding (p<.05). 3. There was also a strong correlation between the reduction of edema and the shifting of bandage. These results suggest that short-stretch bandaging with sponge padding is more effective than bandaging with cotton padding. Further study on skin irritation and the comfort of sponge padding is needed to use padding materials safely and effectively.

  • We use various types of cryptographic algorithms for the protection of personal and sensitive informations in the application environments, such as an internet banking and an electronic commerce. However, recent researches were introduced that if we implement modes of operation, padding method and other cryptographic implementations in a wrong way, then the critical information can be leaked even though the underlying cryptographic algorithms are secure. Among these attacking techniques, the padding oracle attack is representative. In this paper, we analyze the possibility of padding oracle attacks of 12 kinds of padding techniques that can be applied to the CBC operation mode of a block cipher. As a result, we discovered that 3 kinds were safe padding techniques and 9 kinds were unsafe padding techniques. We propose 5 considerations when designing a safe padding techniques to have a resistance to the padding oracle attack through the analysis of three kinds of safe padding techniques.

  • This paper suggests the padding algorithm using padding character length to concatenate more than one string without side-effect. Most existing padding algorithms padding null character in the empty location could not discriminate the real string from the padded character. To overcome this problem, in this paper, the padded character contains pad character length information. This mechanism is working better than NULL or '00' padding cases. The suggested padding algorithm could be effective for data encryption and decryption algorithms.

  • The main purpose of padding methods is to extend the boundary segments of arbitrarily shaped objects to a regular grid so that the common block based coding technique, such as 8${\times}$8 DCT, can be applied. In the conventional padding methods used in MPEG-4: LPE and zero padding, the main process is based on 8${\times}$8 blocks. On the contrary, we propose a new padding method based on pixel-by-pixel. The proposed method puts pixels into a multi-busier using the typical value of each boundary blocks and reproduces new boundary blocks. Simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the conventional padding method and improves the coding efficiency of the conventional padding method.

  • The effect of padding solution for the microwave heat dyeing of polyester fabric was studied variously. The dyeing property of polyester fabric varied with the kinds of added chemicals in the padding solution. Polyester fabrics impregnated in aqueous urea solution and aqueous sodium chloride solution for 10 minutes and then dyed for 7 minutes by microwave apparatus(2450 MHz, 700 W) under optimum conditions give good exhaustion. An aqueous solution of urea and a sodium chloride solution was more effective than water as padding solution for microwave heating dyeing. The K/S values of dyed polyester fabric by microwave were significantly affected by the type of solvent added in padding media and its concentration. Added solvents, n-hexane, acetone and dimethyl formamide were also more effective than water as padding media for the microwave heating dyeing. It is assumed that the effect of used solvents on dyeing property of polyester fabrics depends on the solubility parameter difference between solvent and polyester fabric.

  • Synthetic fabrics, such as nylon and polyester, were dyed with persimmon juice by using a padding mangle repeatedly. The mechanical properties of these synthetic fabrics were analyzed using the Kawabata evaluation system. The following findings were obtained from this investigation. As the number of repetitions of padding dyeing increased, the tensile energy per unit area and the tensile resilience of synthetic fabric remained almost unchanged, whereas the linearity of the load-extension curve of the synthetic fabrics increased. As the number of padding repetitions increased, the synthetic fabrics dyed with persimmon juice exhibited increases in thickness and weight. As the number of repetitions of padding treatment with persimmon juice increased, the values of stiffness, anti-drape stiffness, fullness, and softness also increased, whereas the flexibility with soft feeling, crispness, and scrooping sensation significantly decreased. The amount of coated persimmon juice on the surface of the fabrics increased after three repetitions of padding treatment with persimmon juice. Nylon and polyester fabrics were dyed evenly with persimmon juice treated using a padding mangle.

  • HD padding area is essential redundancy in HD broadcasting. It is possible to use this padding area for the purpose of improving DTV broadcasting services. For utilization of this area, The bit of a service data was converted to black and white $8{\times}8$ block image. Converted block images are compressed with active video and are delivered to a receiver as only DC coefficients in a video stream. video quality is not effected by the proposed method, and service data was perfectly recovered in receiver without errors by using block average and threshold. The proposed utilization of HD essential padding area can possibly overcome the limited transmission stream rate with the bandwidth of HD broadcasting. If service data in transport or video stram were transferred using this padding area, it is possible to improve video quality with expanded video stream rate. Additionally, because the proposed methods are based on well-established standards, it is also useful for world-wide HD broadcasting systems such as ATSC, DVB, and IPTV.

  • Cotton fabrics was treated with persimmon juice by padding and their dyeability and functionality were assessed including antibacterial activity and deodorization ratio. The merit of padding-based dyeing was easier color reproduction over traditional hand dyeing where various colors and color fastness to light and laundering are hard to obtain. With larger number of padding, the dyed fabrics showed deeper red-yellow colors, which had low brightness and high chromatic colors. The dyed cotton fabrics had a perspiration fastness of 4~5 rating, a rubbing fastness of 3~4 rating, and a washing fastness of 4 rating, As the number of padding and exposed time to sunlight or UV light increase, the values of K/S and ${\Delta}E$ increased and the colors became much deeper gradually. The color development had completed about 70 hours exposure to UV. Among the light sources, the dyed fabrics exposed to UV light showed deeper yellow-red color than those of exposed to sunlight. The cotton fabrics treated with premordants like Al, Cr, Cu, and Sn revealed strong yellow colors, especially the fabrics treated with Fe mordant showed greenish red-yellow colors. As the padding times of dyeing with persimmon juice increased, stiffness and water repellent property were enhanced in warp and weft directions, respectively. Also, the dyed fabrics have good antibacterial activity and deodorization.

  • The results of the analysis of dyed rayon fabrics treated with persimmon juice by padding are as follows. Rayon fabrics were dyed repeatedly with persimmon juice by a padding mangle for the development of dyeability. The merits of padding-based dyeing were easier color reproduction (versus traditional hand dyeing) of hard to obtain colors and color fastness to light and laundering. The add on weight increased with the number of padding times, and the color of the dyed fabrics had red-yellow colors with low brightness and high chromatic colors. Properties of fabrics treated with persimmon juice were: $2^{nd}$ level of light resistance, $4^{th}-5^{th}$ perspiration fastness levels, rubbing fastness, and $3^{rd}-4^{th}$ washing fastness levels. Dyed fabrics exposed to UV light have a deep yellow-red color that increased lightness and darken when exposed to sunlight. Rayon fabrics of a treated premordant indicated strong yellow colors, especially fabrics with Fe mordant indicated greenish red-yellow colors. The direction of the weft and warp increased and improved water-repellent qualities that increased with the number of dyeing padding times and persimmon juice; however, there was less anti-crease resistance. In addition, fabrics had good antibacterial activity and deodorization.
