Recently, various renewable systems have been developed and applied in Korea. However, there are many systems which were not utilized in real buildings or not widely spread in the market. Furthermore, the attention of most users focused on several certain system such as PV or solar system. Therefore, this research aims to find user's needs for renewable energy based on perception surveys to improve the acceptance of technology in line with the world's energy flow. The survey was conducted by classifying respondents by various criteria, and the results were analyzed using AHP technique and CVM technique, focusing on preference and acceptance. According to the results of the survey, it was found that the people felt the need for renewable energy but lacked knowledge about renewable energy compared to the various government-implemented renewable energy supply policies. Therefore, a government-level policy is needed so that the people can have universal knowledge about renewable energy system.
For the high efficiency of the photovoltaic module, a high-output solar cell, which is the basis of photovoltaic power generation, is required. As the light receiving area of the solar cell increases, the light receiving area of the photovoltaic module also increases. Accordingly, recent trend is to use large-area solar cells such as M6 and M8 instead of M2-based solar cells for manufacturing the photovoltaic module and a study on the mechanical stiffness of the module with increased size is required. In this study, a mechanical load test corresponding to IEC-61215 was performed among the reliability tests of large-area photovoltaic modules. In order to confirm the degree to which the mechanical load test affects the photovoltaic module, the output and EL images were checked by sequentially increasing the pressure by 600 Pa at a pressure of 2400 Pa. Also, factors such as output and efficiency of large-area photovoltaic modules were verified through mechanical load testing of actual large-area photovoltaic modules and the rate of change was very small at 1%.
The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling cascade is essential for a wide range of cellular responses in plants, including defense responses, responses to abiotic stress, hormone signaling, and developmental processes. Recent investigations have shown that the stress, ethylene, and MAPK signaling pathways negatively affect the formation of nitrogen-fixing nodules by directly modulating the symbiotic signaling components. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the defense responses mediated by MAPK signaling in the organogenesis of nitrogen-fixing nodules remain unclear. In the present study, I demonstrate that the Medicago truncatula mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 5 (MtMKK5)-Medicago truncatula mitogen-activated protein kinase 3/6 (MtMPK3/6) signaling module, expressed specifically in the symbiotic nodules, promotes defense signaling, but not ethylene signaling pathways, thereby inhibiting nodule development in M. truncatula. U0126 treatment resulted in increased cell division in the nodule meristem zone due to the inhibition of MAPK signaling. The phosphorylated TEY motif in the activation domain of MtMPK3/6 was the target domain associated with specific interactions with MtMKK5. I have confirmed the physical interactions between M. truncatula nodule inception (MtNIN) and MtMPK3/6. In the presence of high expression levels of the defense-related genes FRK1 and WRKY29, MtMKK5a overexpression significantly enhanced the defense responses of Arabidopsis against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pst DC3000). Overall, my data show that the negative regulation of symbiotic nitrogen-fixing nodule organogenesis by defense signaling pathways is mediated by the MtMKK5-MtMPK3/6 module.
The renewable energy based MG is becoming one of the prominent solutions for greenhouse gas and constructing less power lines. However, how to procure the economics of MG considering the CO2 emission and utility network impact is one of major issues as the proportion of renewable resource increases. This paper proposes the feasibility study scheme of campus MG and shows that the LCOE and CO2 emission can be reduced by utilizing the excess power and introducing hydrogen system and plus DR. For this, the three cases: (a) adding the PV and selling excess power to utility, (b) producing and selling hydrogen using excess power, and (c) participating in plus DR are considered. For each case, not only the topology and component capacity of MG to secure economic feasibility, but also CO2 emission and utility network effects are derived. If an electrolyzer with a capacity of 400 kW participates in plus DR for 3,730hours/year, the economic feasibility is securable if plus DR settlement and hydrogen sale price are more than 7.08¢/kWh and 8.3USD/kg or 6.25¢/kWh and 8.6USD/kg, respectively. For this end, continuous technical development and policy support for hydrogen system and plus DR are required.
One of main problems in developing electricity grid for archipelago country like Indonesia is the geographical concerns as it consists of many islands. In some rural areas, electricity has not been available yet due to the limited infrastructure access, leading to high investment cost. In this study, a portable energy storage system based on the lithium-ion batteries called Tabung Listrik or TaLis (DC-based power bank) and DC house system were proposed as the solution for providing electricity for rural areas with relatively lower cost. TaLis is designed to be portable so it is easy to carry around as well as it can be used for many purposes. Since 2017, TaLis prototype has been used as the energy storage in a DC house system at Sekolah Master Indonesia, where an array of PV rooftop is functioned as the main DC power supply. Besides, some TaLis were also dispatched for emergency response during the disaster situations in Indonesia, such as during the measles outbreak in Asmat-Papua, the earthquake disaster in Lombok and tsunami in Palu.
This study investigates the barriers to the deployment of solar thermal and ground source heat pump (GSHP) from the perspective of consumers and businesses, as well as evaluates priorities for improving the barriers via expert AHP evaluation. From a consumer's perspective, the overall satisfaction with solar thermal is significantly lower than that with PV and needs to be improved at the installation and use stages. GSHP needs to be improved at the prior-information search stage. From a business perspective, the non-distinction between heat and electricity in mandatory installations in public buildings, the difficulty in assessing the value of heat, and high initial costs impede the deployment. Based on the result of AHP analysis, the priorities for improving the barriers to the wide utilization of solar thermal are evaluated in the order of economic feasibility, policy, acceptability, and technology, where high installation cost is shown to be the greatest barrier. Barriers for GSHP are evaluated in the order of policy, acceptability, economic feasibility, and technology, where policy means improvement is evaluated as the most important factor in promoting the deployment of GSHP.

The Typical Meteorological Year (TMY) dataset compiles 12 months of data that best represent long-term climate patterns, focusing on global horizontal irradiance and other weather-related variables. However, the irradiance measured on the plane of the array (POA) shows certain distinct distribution characteristics compared with the irradiance in the TMY dataset, and this may introduce some biases. Our research recalculated POA irradiance using both the Isotropic and DIRINT models, generating an updated dataset that was tailored to POA characteristics. Our analysis showed a 28% change in the selection of typical meteorological months, an 8% increase in average irradiance, and a 40% reduction in the range of irradiance values, thus indicating a significant shift in irradiance distribution patterns. This research aims to inform stakeholders about accurate use of TMY datasets in potential decision-making. These findings underscore the necessity of creating a typical dataset by using the time series of POA irradiance, which represents the orientation in which PV panels will be deployed.
Cinnamaldehyde is a natural compound extracted from cinnamon bark essential oil, acclaimed for its versatile properties in both pharmaceutical and agricultural fields, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities. Although potential of cinnamaldehyde against plant pathogenic bacteria like Agrobacterium tumefaciens and Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae causative agents of crown gall and bacterial canker diseases, respectively has been documented, in-depth studies into cinnamaldehyde's broader influence on plant pathogenic bacteria are relatively unexplored. Particularly, Pectobacterium spp., gram-negative soil-borne pathogens, notoriously cause soft rot damage across a spectrum of plant families, emphasizing the urgency for effective treatments. Our investigation established that the Minimum Inhibitory Concentrations (MICs) of cinnamaldehyde against strains P. odoriferum JK2, P. carotovorum BP201601, and P. versatile MYP201603 were 250 ㎍/ml, 125 ㎍/ml, and 125 ㎍/ml, respectively. Concurrently, their Minimum Bactericidal Concentrations (MBCs) were found to be 500 ㎍/ml, 250 ㎍/ml, and 500 ㎍/ml, respectively. Using RNA-sequencing analysis, we identified 1,907 differentially expressed genes in P. carotovorum BP201601 treated with 500 ㎍/ml cinnamaldehyde. Notably, our results indicate that cinnamaldehyde upregulated nitrate reductase pathways while downregulating the citrate cycle, suggesting a potential disruption in the aerobic respiration system of P. carotovorum during cinnamaldehyde exposure. This study serves as a pioneering exploration of the transcriptional response of P. carotovorum to cinnamaldehyde, providing insights into the bactericidal mechanisms employed by cinnamaldehyde against this bacterium.
A cDNA clone for a salicylic acid-induced gene in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis) was isolated and characterized. The cabbage gene, designated Br-sil1 (for $\underline{B}$rassica $\underline{r}$apa $\underline{s}$alicylate-$\underline{i}$nduced $\underline{l}$lipase-like 1 gene), encodes a putative lipase that has the family II lipase motif GDSxxDxG around the active site serine. A database search showed that plant genomes have a large number of genes that contain the family II lipase motif. The lipase-like proteins include a myrosinase-associated protein, an anther-specific proline-rich protein APG, a pollen coat protein EXL, and an early nodule-specific protein. The Br-sil1 gene is strongly induced by salicylic acid and a non-host pathogen, Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato, that elicits a hypersensitive response in Chinese cabbage. Treatment of the cabbage leaves with BTH, methyl jasmonate, or ethephon showed that the Br-sil1 gene expression is induced by BTH, but not by methyl jasmonate or ethylene. This indicates that the cabbage gene is activated via a salicylic acid-dependent signaling pathway. An examination of the tissue-specific expression revealed that the induction of the Br-sil1 gene expression by BTH occurs in leaves and stems, but not in roots and flowers. Without the BTH treatment, however, the Br-sil1 gene is not expressed in any of the tissues that were examined.

Methyl bromide has been used as a representative fumigant for quarantine, and several poisoning cases have occurred recently by this chemical in Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate workers' exposures to airborne methyl bromide in the importing and exporting plant products quarantine companies. Air samples were collected 400/200 mg Anasorb 747TM and were analyzed by gas chromatograph /flame ionization detector according to the Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) Method PV2040. Geometric mean (GM) and arithmetic mean (AM) of total 27 workers' exposure concentrations to airborne methyl bromide were 1.12 ppm and 0.24 ppm, respectively. Two exposures(12.1 ppm and 12 ppm as 8hr-TWA) of total 27 workers' exposures exceeded the Korean standard (5 ppm) of Ministry Labor, while 4 exposures (15%) exceeded the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) (1 ppm) of American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). Seven samples (11%) of total 63 short-term air samples exceeded the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) 20 ppm (Ceiling). The opening (management) task in wood fumigation by tent showed the highest short-term exposure concentrations (AM: 18.6 ppm, GM: 0.58 ppm, maximum: 340.7 ppm). The maximum level in treatment task of the same process was 2.01 ppm. Methyl bromide concentrations in opening operation was significantly higher than that in treatment operation (p<0.05). In conclusion, the GM of workers' 8hr-TWA exposures to airborne methyl chloride in the importing/exporting plant quarantine industry was estimated below the ACGIH TLV (1 ppm). However, opening task in the fumigation of wood being covered with tent or fumigation of pant products in container showed the levels exceeding ACGIH TLV (1 ppm), and opening task in the fumigation of wood being covered with tent showed the level exceeding the Korean standard of Ministry of Labor (5 ppm).
