  • An arbiter physical unclonable function (APUF) has exponential challenge-response pairs and is easy to implement on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). However, modeling attacks based on machine learning have become a serious threat to APUFs. Although the modeling-attack resistance of an MA-APUF has been improved considerably by architecture modifications, the response generation method of an MA-APUF results in low uniqueness. In this study, we demonstrate three design problems regarding the low uniqueness that APUF-based strong PUFs may exhibit, and we present several foundational principles to improve the uniqueness of APUF-based strong PUFs. In particular, an improved MA-APUF design is implemented in an FPGA and evaluated using a well-established experimental setup. Two types of evaluation metrics are used for evaluation and comparison. Furthermore, evolution strategies, logistic regression, and K-junta functions are used to evaluate the security of our design. The experiment results reveal that the uniqueness of our improved MA-APUF is 81.29% (compared with that of the MA-APUF, 13.12%), and the prediction rate is approximately 56% (compared with that of the MA-APUF (60%-80%).

  • Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs) provide a high level of security for private keys using unique physical characteristics of hardware. However, fabricating PUF chips requires numerous semiconductor processes, leading to high costs, which limits their applications. In this work, we introduce a low-cost manufacturing method for PUF security chips. First, surface roughening through wet-etching is utilized to create random variables. Additionally, physical vapor deposition is added to further enhance randomness. After PUF chip fabrication, both Hamming distance (HD) and Hamming weight (HW) are extracted and compared to verify the fabricated chip. It is confirmed that the PUF chip using two different multiple process variables demonstrates superior uniqueness and uniformity compared to the PUF security chip fabricated using only a single process variable.

  • In this paper, a novel compact and wideband fylfot-shaped planar monopole antenna is proposed. The fylfot-shaped is suggested to reduce the volume of a general crossed planar monopole antenna. The volume of the proposed antenna is about 1/4 of a general crossed planar monopole antenna under the conditions where the wideband characteristics are maintained. This technique is suitable for the design of wideband planar monopole antenna which needed a small volume.

  • An objective of this study is to develop a polyurethane foam(PUF) maintaining its mechanical strength at room temperature as well as at extremely low temperature. The effect of temperature on the physical properties of PUF with the increase in polyol functionality was investigated. At room and cryogenic temperature, compressive strengths of the PUFs increased up to 70% and 30% with an increase in polyol functionality, respectively. At room temperature tensile strength of PUFs tends to increase as functionality of polyol increases, however, the strength at $-190^{\circ}C$ shows different tendency. Compressive strength of PUF is higher in cryogenic temperature than in room temperature. However, as the number of polyol functionality become more than 4, tensile strength of PUF is lower in cryogenic temperature than in room temperature.

  • Effects of ground tire rubber(GTR) and unexpanded $Expancel^{(R)}$ powders on the thermal conducting characteristics of rigid polyurethane foams(PUFs) were studied. Sub-micron sized GTR powders and $Expancel^{(R)}$ powders were used as the foam nucleating agents to improve the thermal insulating properties of the rigid PUFs. As the results, while the thermal conductivities of the GTR filled-PUF samples were increased linearly with GTR contents, those of $Expancel^{(R)}$ filled-PUF samples were decreased a little bit. It was considered from the results that GTR powders might predominantly play a role as the extending fillers. On the other hand, $Expancel^{(R)}$ powders could act as the foam nucleating agents based on the polar surface, showing smaller cell sized PUF with improved insulating characteristics.

  • A process designed to synthesize rigid polyurethane foam (PUF) with insulative properties via the modulation of PUF cell size via the addition of clay and the application of ultrasound was assessed. The blowing agents utilized in this study include water, cyclopentane, and HFC-365mfc, all of which are known to be environmentally-friendly blowing agents. The rigid PUFs were prepared from polymeric 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate (PMDI) and polyether polyol with a density of $50kg/m^3$. In addition, rigid PUFs/clay nanocomposites were synthesized with clay modified by PMDI with and without the application of ultrasound. The PUF generated using water as a blowing agent evidenced the highest tensile strength. The tensile strength of the PUF/nanocomposites was higher than that of the neat PUF and the strength was even higher with the application of ultrasound. The cell size of the PUF/clay nanocomposites was less than that of the neat PUF, regardless of the type of blowing agent utilized. It appears that the higher tensile strength and lower cell size of the PUF/clay nanocomposites may be attributable to the uniform dispersion of the clay via ultrasonic agitation. The thermal conductivity of the PUF/clay nanocomposites generated with HCFC-141b evidenced the lowest value when PUF/clay nanocomposites were compared with other blowing agents, including HFC-365mfc, cyclopentane, and water. Ultrasound has also proven effective with regard to the reduction of the thermal conductivity of the PUF/clay nanocomposites with any of the blowing agents employed in this study. It has also been suggested that the uniformly dispersed clay particles in the PUF matrix function as diffusion barriers, which prevent the amelioration of the thermal insulation property.

  • The long-chained perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs), perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS), are a potential exposure risk in the environment, specifically for humans due to high levels of bioaccumulation, persistence, and toxicity. In the current study, the plant uptake factors (PUFs) of spinach and Welsh onion were investigated on the three different concentration levels of PFOA and PFOS in soil. Spinach and Welsh onion were divided into three residue groups, a control group and two levels of PFOA and PFOS. The PFAAs spiked soils were aged for six months and the extractable residue of PFOS in the aged soil was reduced to 30-59% of the initial spiked concentrations for PFOS, while PFOA showed almost the same initial spiked concentrations. The PUFs for PFOA and PFOS were 0.111-2.821 and 0.047-3.175 for spinach, and 0.203-0.738 and 0.035-0.181 for Welsh onion, respectively. The highest PUF values in both vegetable were displayed when the residual concentration of PFAAs were part-per-billion (ppb) or sub-ppb in soil.

  • In this paper, we present electromagnetic modeling to design unclonable PUFs with frequency-dependant materials corresponding to Debye dispersion. To demonstrate FDTD calculations consider that 1-D problem of pulsed plane wave traveling in free space normally incident on air-silicon material interface. The pulse traveling wave at a vacuum-medium interface were reflected, and transmitted wave were dissipated. As a result, 1-D PUF with Debye dispersion material structure can be applied and FDTD calculation for PUF modeling is a good approximation.

  • A study of the effects of MWCNT as a nucleating agent on the formation reactions of the rigid polyurethane foams (RPUFs) was carried out. Sample PUFs, formulated with grease-type master batch of MWCNT/surfactant, were fabricated by free-rising method. Temperature changes with time during foaming process were measured using a digital thermometer. RPUF foaming process was observed to undergo 2-step processes with temperature inflection around 60 sec after the start of reaction, and then reached slowly the max. temperature. While the max. temperature of neat PUF was measured as ca. $120^{\circ}C$, that of the samples with MWCNT were as higher value as ca. $130^{\circ}C$, and, even the time to reach that temperature was reduced by about 15 sec. Average cell size of PUF samples decreased from 185.1 for the neat PUF to $162.9{\mu}m$ for the sample of 0.01 phr of MWCNT. As the result, it was considered that MWCNT in RPUF foaming process could play a roll both as a nucleating agent and as a catalyst.
