  • Complex diseases, such as stroke and cancer, have two or more genetic influences and are affected by environmental factors, which complicate them. Due to the complex characteristics of these diseases, we must search and study comprehensive literature-based article resources. Some disease-related literature databases have been developed through specialized journal issues or major websites. Most of them, however, are scattered throughout a website, and users encounter difficulties in finding accurate and comprehensive information easily and quickly. We developed StrokeMed, an integrated literature database for stroke and the differentiation of stroke syndrome. The system allows users to explore PubMed search results, categorized by MeSH (Medical Subject Headings), and the differentiation of stroke syndrome in Oriental medicine. StrokeMed collects data from important sites, such as PubMed, Scirus, and Scopus, automatically to maintain higher-quality and updated content. Currently, the system indexes more than 20,000 PubMed abstracts that are related to stroke, stroke etiology, and Oriental medicine. The system provides valuable literature information to the scientific and medical fields in stroke.

  • Various controlled vocabularies such as thesaurus and classification used for effective information retrieval contain different terms in expressing the same concept or meaning. National Library of Medicine has developed the Unified Medical Language System(UMLS) to solve the problems of information retrieval and integration resulted from the difference of concepts between different sources. The UMLS development was initiated in 1982 as a long-term project, and the 2001 edition of the UMLS consists of three parts : Metathesaurus, Semantic Network, and SPECIALIST Lexicon. This paper reviews background and structure of the UMLS including applications in PubMed, NLM Gateway.

  • Objective : To know about ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome pathophysiology, risk factors and clinical features and to research the trend of the study related to OHSS. Methods : We referred a PubMed site by using searching word of "ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome"(Limits: 1 Year, only items with abstracts, Human). Results : 28 journals with 49 papers were searched. Conclusion 1. The study of OHSS subjects on pathophysiology, prevention and medical treatment. 2. As OHSS is an exaggerated response to ovulation induction therapy, it's emphasized that aspect of prevention OHSS. 3. Preventing OHSS are the following. The first is to give a GnRH agonist or antagonist in substitute for hCG. The second is to screen out prevalence of thrombophilia. The third is to monitor $E_2$ levels. The forth is to aspirate of Mediculous follicle. The fifth is cryopreservation of all embryos. The sixth is that administration of albumin for treatment of OHSS. But, it's not useful to administration of albumin for prevention of OHSS. 4. There's no therapy of OHSS. But, there's only symptomatic treatment of OHSS.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to review articles related to PNF and easily provide information to readers who have difficulty reading papers or using PNF in clinics without a background in statistical knowledge. Methods: We used PubMed to collect papers on international studies and we conducted a search on April 28, 2014. Keywords used for the PubMed search were "PNF" and "Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation". The search results identified 765 papers that had been published since 1954. To target the papers for review, we selected 66 papers, excluding papers that were not published in online journals and papers that were written in a second language. Results: The reviewed papers consisted of studies that addressed basic principles and procedures, combined with other interventions, including PNF stretching concepts, and other diseases with PNF concepts. The articles related to basic procedures and principles reported on optimal contraction intensity, patterns, and irradiation. The articles related to stretching and strengthening reported on stretching the hamstring muscles in healthy subjects, in combination with other interventions such as neuromobilization, clinical massage, kinesio taping, and water immersion. The articles related to specific diseases reported on stroke, low back pain, athletic injury, total knee replacement, etc. Conclusion: In the 66 articles reviewed for this study, there was little evidence that PNF has therapeutic value. However, in future research on the application of PNF, investigators could conduct a more in-depth analysis of this topic and present more objective and useful information on the therapeutic benefits of PNF.

  • Broadcast encryption is a cryptographical primitive which is designed for a content provider to distribute contents to only privileged qualifying users through an insecure channel. Anyone who knows public keys can distribute contents by means of public key broadcast encryption whose technique can also be applicable to many other applications. In order to design public key broadcast encryption scheme, it should devise some methods that convert a broadcast encryption scheme based on symmetric key cryptosystem to a public key broadcast encryption. Up to this point, broadcast encryption scheme on trial for converting from symmetric key setting to asymmetric public key setting has been attempted by employing the Hierarchical Identity Based Encryption (HIBE) technique. However, this converting method is not optimal because some of the properties of HIBE are not quite fitting for public key broadcast schemes. In this paper, we proposed new converting method and an efficient public key broadcast encryption scheme Pub-PI which is obtained by adapting the new converting method to the PI scheme [10]. The transmission overhead of the Pub-PI is approximately 3r, where r is the number of revoked users. The storage size of Pub-PI is O($c^2$), where c is a system parameter of PI and the computation cost is 2 pairing computations.

  • This study aimed to investigate publication productivity in various medical specialties in the top 10 countries with the highest number of published journal articles, considering the distinction between prolific and prestigious journals. For this study, we selected 10 specialties from the Scientific Journal Rankings (SJR) and used journals listed in both SJR and PubMed. Bibliographic details of these journals' articles published from 2017 to 2019 were downloaded from PubMed. The results showed that various aspects of medical publication output were influenced by country characteristics such as specialty, journal type, population size, wealth, and healthcare expenditure. China showed the greatest variability in terms of specialty, as its publications in Oncology (ONCGY) were exceptionally high compared with the specialties of other countries. China's publications in ONCGY exceeded even those of the United States in ONCGY. Furthermore, the western countries, the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States in particular published more articles in prestigious journals than the other top 10 countries, where the East Asian countries published more articles in prolific journals than in prestigious journals.

  • Objectives: This study reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of Neiguan (PC6) stimulation on blood pressure and suggests a better research process. Methods: We searched for RCTs for effects of Neiguan (PC6) stimulations on blood pressure published until July 2024 using six databases (PubMed, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System (OASIS), Korea Citation Index (KCI), Research Information Service System (RISS), Korean Studies Information Service System (KISS), and Science ON). In total, eight RCTs that met all the inclusion criteria were selected. Results: All the selected studies showed significant effects of Neiguan (PC6) stimulation on blood pressure. In most studies, Neiguan (PC6) stimulation was effective in stabilizing blood pressure and improving various indicators related to blood pressure. Conclusion: Neiguan (PC6) stimulation is an effective treatment for stabilizing blood pressure. However, the selected RCTs were short-term studies and had small number of subjects; so, long-term and large-scale studies are needed.

  • With the development of genomics, wearable device and IT/NT, a vast amount of bio-medical data are generated recently. Also, healthcare industries based on big-data are booming and big-data technology based on bio-medical data is rising rapidly as a core technology for improving the national health and aged society. Also, oriental medicine research is focused with modern research technology and validate it's various biochemical effect by combining with molecular biology technology. However there are few searching system for finding biochemical mechanism which is related to major compounds in oriental medicine. Therefore, in this paper, we collected papers related with medical herbs from PubMed and constructed a medical herbs database to store and manage chemical, gene/protein and biological interaction information extracted by a literature analysis on the papers. Also, to supporting a multidimensional analysis on the database, we developed a network analysis system based on a hierarchy structure of chemical, gene/protein and biological interaction information. Finally, we expect this system will be used the major tool to discover various biochemical effect by combining with molecular biology technology.
