  • In this experimental study, effect of milled glass fibers was investigated on corrosion resistance of PSC grout mortar. In order to check whether the mortar mixture with milled glass fibers satisfy the required properties as a PSC grout, time of flow, bleeding and compressive strength measured. The corrosion resistance were investigated through chloride ion migration test, mortar absorption test and surface resistivity measurement. It is confirmed that all proportions with milled glass fibers have better corrosion resistance than that with only OPC binder. Time of flow was reduced but the bleeding was increased to unacceptable level by using milled glass fibers. Consequently, the mix proportion with milled glass fibers for a PSC grout should be modified to have lower water/binder ratio.

  • The study investigates the effects of the type, replacement ratio and method of use of mineral admixtures on the fluidity, bleeding ratio, volumetric change and compressive strength of the grout in order to provide basic data for the development of high-quality grout for PSC bridges. In view of the results relative to the type and replacement ratio of the mineral admixtures, it appears that fly ash has practically no effect on the improvement of the fluidity nor on the reduction of bleeding and shrinkage of the grout. On the contrary, blast furnace slag and silica fume appear to have significant effect on the improvement of the fluidity or on the reduction of bleeding and shrinkage of the grout. With regard to the combined use of mineral admixtures, the combination of fly ash and blast furnace slag provides satisfactory fluidity but with significant increase of bleeding and shrinkage, whereas the combination of blast furnace slag and silica fume reduces bleeding and shrinkage but with large loss of the fluidity. On the other hand, the combination of fly ash and silica fume results in satisfactory fluidity accompanied with fair reduction of bleeding and shrinkage of the grout. In view of these results, the type, replacement ratio and method of use of the mineral admixtures are seen to influence the fluidity, bleeding and volumetric change of the grout. Accordingly, it is necessary to select the mineral admixtures considering these effects for their exploitation in the grout of PSC bridges.

  • This study examined the effects of the cement type and sand to cement ratio on the properties of grout for offshore PSC structures. Types I and III cement were used and the sand to cement ratio was varied from 0.5 to 1.5. When type I cement was used, considerable bleeding occurred on the all S/C after 3 hours and 20 hours. When type III cement was used, bleeding was reduced but the flowability decreased. A comparison of a superplasticizer containing naphthalene with that containing polycarboxylate showed that the problem of flowability could be solved using polycarboxylate.

  • Grout in duct is very effective protection from tendon corrosion in PSC(Prestressed Concrete) structure. In the work, durability and mechanical tests are performed for two types of grout which are conventionally used one and the improved grout with reduced w/c (water to cement) ratio and silica fume. Tendon system with 1000mm height is prepared and various tests including strength, flow, absorption, and bleeding ratio are conducted. ICM(Impressed Current Method) is adopted for corrosion acceleration in tendon with 12.7mm diameter inside grout. For 2 and 4 days, corrosion acceleration is performed for 2 different type of grout and corrosion amount is investigated. The improved grout shows higher compressive strength by 10 MPa and lower absorption ratio by 50% than the conventional one. It also provides an excellent corrosion reduction to 39.8 %~48.2 % for 2~4 days of acceleration period.

  • This paper reports on analyzing the free and restrained shrinkage characteristic of ternary grout used cementitious admixture. In this study, the cementitious admixture was used such as fly ash, ziricania silica fume by combination of expansive additive (a, b) and shrinkage reducing agent. And a number of basic performance tests were conducted to investigate bleeding, volume change, fluidity and compressive strength behavior. According to the results, within appropriate mixing ratio, even the fluidity is not influenced by expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent, the resistant properties of bleeding, volume change, shrinkage and compressive strength are increased. Comparing with plain grout, the free shrinkage reduced by a minimum of 29% which specimens are added expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent. The combination of expansive additive a and shrinkage reducing agent is the most effective for reduction of shrinkage. And increasing the mixing ratio of expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent extended cracking time. Nevertheless, combined addition of expansive additive a 2.0% and shrinkage reducing agent 0.50% has best shrinkage reduction behavior and not appeared cracking. From the above, the mixing ratio of 2.0% of expansive additive a and 0.50% of shrinkage reducing agent is high performance ternary grout for PSC bridge.

  • The full-width, full-depth precast panel system is very efficient for the rehabilitation of deteriorated decks as well as for new bridge construction.. The horizontal bond strength at the interface between the two interconnected elements is of primary importance in order to achieve composite action. The strength of the bond between the two precast members should be high enough to prevent any progressive slip from taking place. However, the case when both of the interconnected elements are precast members bonded by means of grout, is not currently addressed by KBDC or AASHTO. This is the main impetus for this study. A total 43 push-off tests were performed to evaluate the horizontal bond strength and to recommend the best practice for the system. Test parameters included different interface surface conditions, different amount and different types of shear connectors. The presence of the shear keys at the top surface of the beam increased the interface bond capacity tremendously compared to the bond capacity with a different surface conditions.

  • In this study, the bleeding tests were performed to investigate the effects of cement paste(w/c=0.42) on bleeding through varying the number of strand and the diameter of cylinder. The test variables were specified by differing the diameter of cylinder and the number of strand. The bleeding test was performed with respect to all diameter parameters by with or without strand. In addition, the number of strands were specified at four levels, 0, 1, 2, and 3 EA in case of 50 mm cylinder. In case of without strand, the bleeding rate was determined at low level under 2%. Moreover, all of the specimens had similar value in the measurement error. In case of with strand, maximum bleeding rate was 10%. As the diameter of cylinder decreased, the bleeding rate was decreased. The bleeding rate was altered rapidly in between 50 to 100mm of diameter. Even though bleeding rate was increased according to the increase in the number of strand, these tendency for bleeding rate was negligible with the measurement error.
