In this paper, structural characteristics for an extradosed prestressed concrete box girder bridge are investigated in terms of selective parameters. These parameters are mainly associated with the structural details of the extradosed bridge and derived from currently available literatures regarding previous design drawings. The analyses have been carried out using general-purpose structural analysis program, RM-Space Frame. The parameters evaluated for the present study represent the most salient features of the extradosed bridge and are as follows; 1) span length ratio(side-span length to center-span length), 2) boundary condition of girder, 3) height of pylon, 4) anchorage location of external cables and 5) girder stiffness. The analytical predictions indicate that span length ratio and pylon height are reasonably adequate in the range of 0.55 to 0.60 and $L_m/8$ to $L_m/12$ respectively for the bridge under consideration. Also, demonstrated is the boundary condition of girder, in which rigid-connection details give more efficiency than the continuous details. In addition, considering structural characteristics of the extradosed bridge, it is desirable that the girder stiffness should be determined by the stress range of external cables rather than bending moment of girder.

In the fields of design within civil engineering, BIM based Utilization of 3D object model is still far from commercialization. In this paper, BIM based 3D object model is composed for PSC box girder, super structure of railway bridge. The basic unit of the model is part model. The part model is the minimum unit model. And it has hierarchy to reflect the characteristics of structures. Change orders of structural designer must be reflected quickly in the 3D object model. Repetitive change orders are occurred in actual construction process. To prepare that, we classified design variables to parameters. Change orders of structural designer can be reflected quickly in the 3D object model because those parameters are related with information of 3D object model. In this paper, we studied various benefits of BIM based design method with 3D object model in the fields of design within civil engineering, and proposed the efficient application method of 3D object model for PSC box girder.

The Prestressed Concrete (hereinafter PSC) box girder bridges with corrugated steel webs have been drawing an attention as a new structure type of PSC bridge fully utilizing the feature of concrete and steel. However, the previous study focused on the shear buckling of the corrugated steel web and development of connection between concrete flange and steel web. Therefore, it needs to perform a study on the torsional behavior and develop the rational torsional analysis model for PSC box girder with corrugated steel web. In this study, torsional analysis model is developed using Rausch's equation based on space truss model, equilibrium equation considering softening effect of reinforced concrete element and compatibility equation. Validation studies are performed on developed model through the comparison with the experimental results of loading test for PSC box girder with corrugated steel webs. Parametric studies are also performed to investigate the effect of prestressing force and concrete strength in torsional behavior of PSC box girder with corrugated steel web. The modified correction factor is also derived for the torsional coefficient of PSC box girder with corrugated steel web through the parametric study using the proposed anlaytical model.
The damping ratio of railway bridge has become one of the most important issues in dynamic design and dynamic stability of railway bridge. In the present study, laboratory and field test were performed for railway bridges such as a twin I-shaped steel composite girder, PSC box, steel box, PSC, IPC, PRECOM, preflex. The damping ratio of railway bridge according to structure types was estimated by logarithmic decrement method. Therefore, magnitude, frequency and amplitude of load did not affect damping ratio of railway bridge. Also, damping ratio limit of steel composite and PSC bridges was evaluated in 1.0%.

The number of aged bridges is increasing so that bridges over 30 years old account for about 11% of all bridges. Consequently, the development of a seismic performance evaluation method that considers the effects of ageing is essential for a seismic retrofitting process for improvement of the seismic safety of existing old bridges. Assessment of the damage situation of bridges after the recent earthquakes in Korea has been limited to the bearings, anchor, and concrete mortar on piers. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic responses of PSC box girder bridges by considering the ageing effect of rubber bearings (RBs) and lead-rubber bearings (LRBs). The modification factor proposed by AASHTO is used to take into account the ageing effect in the bearings. PSC box girder bridges with RBs and LRBs were 3D modeled and analyzed with the OpenSEES program. In order to evaluate the ageing effect of RBs and LRBs, 40 near fault and 40 far field records were used as the input earthquakes. When considering the effect of ageing, the displacement responses and shear forces of bridge bearings (RBs and LRBs) were found to increase mostly under the analytical conditions. It was shown that the effect of ageing is greater in the case of RBs than in the case of LRBs.

Segmentally erected prestressed concrete box girder bridges have been widely used in Korean high speed railway. Segmental erection has been accomplished along the longitudinal direction and across the depth of cross section. The cross section is similar to a composite cross section, composed of old and new segments. Because these segments have different time-dependent creep and shrinkage properties, a stress redistribution takes place during the construction period. It is the main objective in this research to investigate this behavior. An actual bridge was instrumented with 96 vibrating wire embedded type strain gauges, 6 electronic type steel strain gauges, and 75 thermocouples. Two span continuous high speed railway bridge was selected. Two points of importance, such as the midpoint of the first span and the point of interior support, along the span of the girder were chosen to monitor the time dependent behaviors for an extended period of time. The data collection was starting just after concrete girder were cast and is still going on. According to the measured results, the strain distributions across the depth of the section at midspan and interior support were not continuous and the important redistribution of stresses takes place. Thus, rational design of prestressed concrete composite box girder bridges need.

The tendency of more longer span length being required economical in railway bridges is studying about PSC I shaped girder. In this case, it is important to analyze and choose the effective girder section for stiffness of bridge. This study investigates the dynamic properties and safety of PSC I shaped girder being used wide upper flange whose selection based on radii and efficiency factor of flexure for railway bridge in different span type. In addition, 40m PSC Box girder bridge adopted in Honam high speed railway is further analyzed to compare dynamic performance of PSC I shaped girder railway bridge with same span length. Time history response is acquired based on the mode superposition method. Static analysis is also analyzed using standard train load combined with the impact factor. Consequently, the result met limit values in every case including vertical displacement, acceleration and distort.

This paper aims at estimating instantaneous prestress losses by measuring the actual prestress forces in prestressed concrete (PSC) box girder bridges. Measurement were taken to study initial prestress losses such as friction losses and slip losses. A new strain gauge system was developed to measure strains in internal tendons. The system was installed on a total of 20 tendons in a PSC box girder bridges. The variation of prestress forces were monitored during prestressing tendon and after prestress transfer. The prestress losses are also calculated including friction losses and slip losses. The measured data were compared with the theoretical values. The result shows that the measured prestress forces agree well with the theoretical values. It is shown that prestress force of each strand in the same tendon is a bit different. This study also shows that prestress losses of continuity tendons during prestress transfer are significantly different each other, which results from the variety of buttress location and tendon profile. The present study provides realistic information on the estimation of actual prestress forces and losses in PSC box girder bridges.
