Most of the medium-size ships are powered by large-bore, long-stroke, slow-speed and two-stroke diesel engines in order to improve the fuel efficiency. Such a propulsion plant develops low-frequency excitation forces/moments of significant magnitude. A RO/RO car/truck carrier is also one of the cases. In this paper, the rational methods for analysis of vertical and coupled horizontal-torsional vibrations are presented. Taking account of unusual characteristics of the hull form and structural systems, the emphasis is put on modelling methods based on beam analogy, calculation of system parameters such as added mass and its center, polar added-mass moment of inertia, shear coefficient of hull sections and coupling degree in antisymmetric modes, and modal analysis of forced vibrations.

The uneven reaction surface profile facing the lift magnets in attractive Maglev vehicles naturally brings about pitch motion of the bogie. In particular, in the placement configuration of the long stator of the linear synchronous motor (LSM) on the track for high-speed propulsion, surface irregularities and the offsets between the stator packs create measurable airgaps, i.e., the clearance between the magnet and the stator, with discontinuously extreme values, resulting in bogie pitch motion. This occurs because the airgap velocities and accelerations derived by the differentiations of the measured air-gaps are used to determine the voltages applied to the magnets. This paper incorporates bogie pitch motion into a control law for each magnet controller to reduce the variations in both the airgap and the pitch angle. The effectiveness of the proposed method is analyzed using a full-scale Maglev vehicle running over a test track.
A high altitude long endurance aircraft which carries out missions of environmental research communication relay or ground surveillance, should have the capacity to cruise in the stratosphere at a relatively low speed for a long dwell time without the necessity of refueling. When one considers the propulsion system for such an aircraft, a reciprocating engine with a serial turbo-charger system to boost rarefied ambient air up to sea level condition, would represent an good, informed and practical choice regardless of the cruising altitude of the aircraft. In this paper, high altitude long endurance aircraft developed by overseas research groups and research trends, regarding multi-stage turbocharger systems, are introduced.

Ever increasing fuel prices, almost doubled in the last three years, and global pressure to reduce their environmental impact have been enforcing commercial vessel operators and designers to re-assess current vessel designs with emphasis on their propulsion systems and operational practices. In this paper the "Inclined Keel Hull (IKH)" concept, which facilitates to use larger propeller diameter in combination with lower shaft speed rates and hence better transport efficiency, is explored for a modern 3600 TEU container vessel with the aim of fitting an 13 % larger diameter propeller (and hence resulting 20% lower rpm) to gain further power saving over the similar size basis container ship with conventional "level keel" configuration. It appears that successful application of the "inclined keel Hull" concept is a fine balance amongst the maximum gain in propulsive efficiency, minimum increase in hull resistance and satisfaction of other naval architectural and operational requirements. In order to make the concept economically more viable, this paper concentrates on the fore body design with the possible combination of increase of volume in its fore body to recover the expected volume loss in the aft body due to the space for larger propeller and its low wave-making resistance to minimize the efficiency loss using a well-established optimization software.

Harmonics (or distortion in wave form) has always existed in electrical power systems. It is harmless as long as its level is not substantial. However, with the recent rapid advancement of power electronics technology, so-called nonlinear loads, such as variable frequency drives for motor power/speed control, are increasingly finding their way to shipboard or offshore applications. In this paper a new approach to direct torque control (DTC) of induction motor drive is presented. In comparison with the conventional DTC methods the inverter switching frequency is constant and is dramatically increased, requiring neither any increase of the sampling frequency, nor any high frequency dither signal. The well-developed space vector modulation technique is applied to inverter control in the proposed DTC-based induction motor drive system, thereby dramatically reducing the current harmonics. As compared to the existing DTC approach with constant inverter switching frequency, the presented new approach does not invoke any concept of deadbeat control, thereby dramatically reducing the computations.

A guard lamp system has been installed at the PV positive center, located at Gwangju in Korea. Digital environment that is represented to internet is displacing business way of industry and business achievement way with the fast speed being giving great change on life whole, improve existence business process utilizing internet and Web connection technology, information superhighway to tradition industrialist manufacture and e-transformation's propulsion that wish to maximize productivity and administration efficiency is spread vigorously. In this paper, we wish to accomplish generation equipment's heighten stability and believability through remote monitoring and control of guard lamp system. This paper describes the design of the monitoring system for the sensing data and indirect controlling of the guard lamp system. Most of the conventional monitoring systems depend on the special hardware and software. The essential design of monitoring system is to provide the convenience for the user and the portability for the system. In order for the system to fulfill its requirements, it was designed using Labview GUI facility based on the Windows 2000 environment of IBM PC compatible and Add-oncard based on the TCP/IP Protocol. Advantage of the monitoring system are a personnel expenses curtailment effect, of the place restriction and unmanned system of the generationplants, etc..
Digital environment that is represented to Internet is displacing business way of industry and business achievement way with the fast speed being giving great change on life whole. Improve existent business process utilizing Internet and Web connection technology, information superhighway to tradition industrialist manufacturer and e-Transformation's propulsion that wish to maximize productivity and administration efficiency is spread vigorously. In this paper, administration efficiency raising of Web-based factory monitoring system to do monitoring when everywhere integrating operation present condition current point of time of discrete factories in inside and outside of the country by purpose design and implemented. That is, do to normalize system structure and achievement function, and administration data of Web-based, and design using VML (Unified Modeling Language) and take advantage of ASP (Active Server Pages) and implemented web function. Implemented Web-based factory monitoring system is applying two factory (Kl, K2) of K CO., LTD. tire operation division to caravan, and application result was evaluated by very efficient thing to grasp operation situation of whole factory synthetically.
A waypoint tracking algorithm(WTA) is designed for Unmanned Surface Vehicle(USV) in which water-jet system is installed for propulsion To control the heading of USV for waypoint tracking, the steering nozzle of water-jet need, to be controlled. Firstly, target heading is calculated by using the position information of waypoints input from the land control center. Secondly, the command for the steering nozzle of water-jet is calculated in real time by using the heading and the rate-of-turn( ROT) from magnetic compass, In this study, in order to consider the drift angle due to external disturbance such as wind and wave, the course of ground( COG) can be used instead of heading at higher speed than a certain value, To test the performance of newly-designed WTA, the tests were carried out in actual sea area near Gwang-an bridge of Busan. In this paper, the sea trial test results from WTA are analyzed and compared with those from manual control and those from commercial controller.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the coordination between trunk flexion and lower limb extension contributing to vertical propulsion during sit-to-stand (STS) at different chair heights in the elderly. Methods: Ten elderly subjects were asked to stand up at their natural speed from different chair heights : (1) $90^{\circ}$ knee flexion; (2) $100^{\circ}$ knee flexion; (3) $110^{\circ}$ knee flexion; and (4) $120^{\circ}$ knee flexion. A standard chair without a backrest or armrests was used in this study. To remove inertial effects of upper limb movements, subjects were asked to stand up from a chair with their arms crossed at the chest. Mean of results of three trials were used in the analysis at different knee flexion angles. Distances moved by the shoulder for compensatory trunk movement was recorded by motion analysis and vertical force was recorded under foot using force plates. Distances moved by the shoulder and vertical ground reaction force measurements were analyzed using repeated ANOVA. Results: Distances moved by the shoulder significantly decreased with higher chair (p<0.05). Vertical forces were not significant difference on chair heights (p>0.05), but results of pairwise comparisons for vertical force revealed significant difference between $90^{\circ}$ knee flexion and $120^{\circ}$ knee flexion (p<0.05). Conclusion: Trunk movement is probably used as a compensatory mechanism at low chair heights to increase lift-off from sitting by the elderly.

This study proposes a PCS that enables efficient operation of seawater pumps for ships by implementing ML-based algorithms. Seawater temperature, RPM and power consumption data are acquired from two ships with PCS, analyzed with regression analysis method, and new algorithms are presented. Using the algorithms presented, Ship A saved about 36% compared to the PCS application, and ML-based algorithms in certain sea temperatures of 19 to 27 degrees Celsius and above 32 degrees Celsius were about 1% lower than Ship A's PCS. Ship B saved about 50% compared to PCS not applied, and about 2% more than Ship B's PCS in waters above $19^{\circ}C$, a specified sea temperature. The derived data can be used to suggest the optimum pump speed and sea route. In addition, the trend of acquired data can be used to infer the performance of the pump or the timing of elimination of the MGPS when efficiency becomes poor.
