Predicting As Contamination Risk in Red River Delta using Machine Learning Algorithms

  • Excessive presence of As level in groundwater is a major health problem worldwide. In the Red River Delta in Vietnam, several million residents possess a high risk of chronic As poisoning. The As releases into groundwater caused by natural process through microbially-driven reductive dissolution of Fe (III) oxides. It has been extracted by Red River residents using private tube wells for drinking and daily purposes because of their unawareness of the contamination. This long-term consumption of As-contaminated groundwater could lead to various health problems. Therefore, a predictive model would be useful to expose contamination risks of the wells in the Red River Delta Vietnam area. This study used four machine learning algorithms to predict the As probability of study sites in Red River Delta, Vietnam. The GBM was the best performing model with the accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity of 98.7%, 100%, 95.2%, and 100%, respectively. In addition, it resulted the highest AUC of 92% and 96% for the PRC and ROC curves, with Eh and Fe as the most important variables. The partial dependence plot of As concentration on the model parameters showed that the probability of high level of As is related to the low number of wells' depth, Eh, and SO4, along with high PO43- and NH4+. This condition triggers the reductive dissolution of iron phases, thus releasing As into groundwater.

안성주택과 중국의 ICSID 중재사건에 관한 사례연구 (Comments on the ICSID Award Ansung Housing v. People's Republic of China)

  • On 9 March 2017, a Tribunal constituted under the ICSID Convention issued its ruling in the case of Ansung Housing v. People's Republic of China, dismissing with prejudice all claims made by the Claimant, Ansung Housing Co., Ltd., in its Request for Arbitration, pursuant to ICSID Arbitration Rule 41(5). Ansung Housing v. PRC has drawn attention since it is the first case where an investor with Korean nationality initiated an ICSID arbitration on the basis of the Korea-China Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) as amended in 2007 between the Republic of Korea and the People's Republic of China. The Tribunal finds that its ruling is about a lack of jurisdiction of the ICSID and of its own competence as well as regarding manifest lack of legal merit due to a lack of temporal jurisdiction, since a Respondent's Rule 41(5) objection is concerned with the three-year limitation period in Article 9(7) of the Korea-China BIT. The Tribunal held that, under Article 9(7) of the Korea-China BIT, the limitation period begins with an investor's first knowledge of the fact that it has incurred loss or damage, not with the date on which it gains knowledge of the quantum of that loss or damage. Finally, the Tribunal held that Ansung submitted its dispute to ICSID and made its claim for purposes of Article 9(3) and (7) of the BIT after more than three years had elapsed from the date on which Ansung first acquired knowledge of loss or damage and that the claim is time-barred and, as such, is manifestly without legal merit. It remains to be seen whether the aggrieved Claimant initiates annulment proceedings before an ad hoc committee under the ICSID Convention. It is quite interesting to see whether the decisions by the Tribunal should be reversed on the basis of the Claimant's arguments as to the start date as well as the end date of the limitation period under the Korea-China BIT.

한국 해군의 전략 수립 방향 연구 - 미군의 JOAC, ASB 개념 분석과 한국 해군에의 함의- (This paper asks whether the Republic of Korea (ROK) Navy should Study on ROK Navy's Strategy Planning - Concerning to JOAC, ASB Concept of US Armed Forces -)

  • The purpose of this thesis is to suggest how to plan ROK(Republic of Korea) Navy's strategy concerning to JOAC(Joint Operation Access Concept) and ASB(Air-Sea Battle) concept of US(United States) armed forces. Since 2006, US armed forces has been developing CONOPS(Concepts of Operations), JOAC & ASB. These concepts will not only affect security environment for Korea Peninsula and West Pacific Area, but also will be affected to ROK Navy's Strategy. Therefore, Korea Navy has to consider and review those concepts and should discuss the way to secure peace of Korea Peninsula. JOAC & ASB have been developed for securing operational access ability of US armed forces against enemy forces. A2/AD(Anti-Access, Area-Denial) is the strategy of possible enemy forces against US forces' approaching into the operation area and impede operations within area. US forces had to overcome enemy's A2/AD strategy in coming century to protect national interest and sustain global leadership. The main concept of JOAC & ASB is "Cross-domain Synergy", which means 'to eliminate duplicate and improve joint operability containing space and cyber operation area.' Korea Navy's acceptance of JOAC & ASB without any revising is not a rational choice. Without the amendment some problems can be occurred by the Korea navy's acceptance for the original version of JOAC & ASB. Those are "Missing differences of operation environment between Korea and US", "Impediment from neighbor nations, especially PRC (People's Republic of China)", and "Impediment inside from Korea armed forces". Therefore, Korea Navy has to evaluate and find out the way to solve for JOAC & ASB to apply for their strategy and minimise those possible problems above. This thesis is expected to be the solution.

Effect of azoxystrobin fungicide on the physiological and biochemical indices and ginsenoside contents of ginseng leaves

  • Background: The impact of fungicide azoxystrobin, applied as foliar spray, on the physiological and biochemical indices and ginsenoside contents of ginseng was studied in ginseng (Panax ginseng Mey. cv. "Ermaya") under natural environmental conditions. Different concentrations of 25% azoxystrobin SC (150 g a.i./ha and 225 g a.i./ha) on ginseng plants were sprayed three times, and the changes in physiological and biochemical indices and ginsenoside contents of ginseng leaves were tested. Methods: Physiological and biochemical indices were measured using a spectrophotometer (Shimadzu UV-2450). Every index was determined three times per replication. Extracts of ginsenosides were analyzed by HPLC (Shimadzu LC20-AB) utilizing a GL-Wondasil $C_{18}$ column. Results: Chlorophyll and soluble protein contents were significantly (p = 0.05) increased compared with the control by the application of azoxystrobin. Additionally, activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, and ginsenoside contents in azoxystrobin-treated plants were improved, and malondialdehyde content and $O_2^-$ contents were reduced effectively. Azoxystrobin treatments to ginseng plants at all growth stages suggested that the azoxystrobin-induced delay of senescence was due to an enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity protecting the plants from harmful active oxygen species. When the dose of azoxystrobin was 225 g a.i./ha, the effect was more significant. Conclusion: This work suggested that azoxystrobin played a role in delaying senescence by changing physiological and biochemical indices and improving ginsenoside contents in ginseng leaves.

계면활성제 유화법에 의한 D상 유화물 제조와 특성 (Preparation and Properties of D Phase Emulsion by Silicone Oil)

  • D상 유화법을 적용하고 상도를 이용하여 유화메커니즘을 설명하였다. D상 유화작용은 등방성 계면활성제 용액의 형성과 함께 시작되며 계면활성제 용액에 octamethyl cyclotetrasiloxane(OMCS)의 분산으로 계면활성제중 오일(O/D) 겔 유화물의 형성에 의해 진행된다. 폴리올은 이 실험목적상 필수성분이다. 폴리올의 기능을 이해하기 위해 비이온 계면활성제/오일/물/폴리올계의 용액거동을 폴리옥시에틸렌올레일에테르/OMCS/프로필렌글리콜(PG)의 수용액인 3성분의 상도를 이용하여 조사하였다. 등방성 계면활성제상에서 오일의 용해도는 PG를 가함에 따라 증가하였다. D상 유화물은 OMCS의 농도가 70~90% 범위에서와 계면장력이 2.0~3.0 dyne/cm 범위에서만 형성되었으며, D상 유화물은 $10{\mu}m$ 정도 크기의 균일한 구상으로 O/W 형이었다.

  • To study the mechanical behavior depended on the restoration method and alveolar bone height at endodontically treated teeth. a finite element model was made which was applied by four types of restoration methods and alveolar bone height on upper central incisor and then 1 Kg force was applied on each model as follows; 1) $45^{\circ}$ diagonal load on incisal edge. 2) $26^{\circ}$ diagonal load on lingual surface. and 3) horizontal load on labial surface. The author analyzed the displacement and stress of teeth and their supporting tissue by finite element method according to three type of loading conditions. The results were as follows : 1. The displacement by restoration method and the stress in dentin was found greater in restoration without a post than in that with a post. 2. The displacement and stress was found about the same when compared : A) in Resin model and PFM model applied by restoration method without a post and B) in PRC model and CPC model applied by restoration method with a post. 3. The lower alveolar bone height was. the greater was the displacement and stress. 4. The lower alveolar bone height was. the greater slightly was the stress of restoration without a post than in that with a post. 5. The stress in loading condition was the greatest in P1 in dentin and post. and was greatest in P3 in alveolar hone. 6. In the restoration method without a post. stress concentration in labial dentin was distributed to a figure of long belt in adjacent part to periodontal ligament. while in restoration method with a post. it was distributed in adjacent part to post side. And in all types of restoration method stress concentration in alveolar bone was distributed along the compact bone of labial and lingual surface.

다중 셀 MIMO 하향채널의 셀 에지 SINR (Cell Edge SINR of Multi-cell MIMO Downlink Channel)

  • 본 논문에서는 PRC (polar-rectangular coordinate) 에 대한 2 tier 19 셀에 대해 고려해보고, BS 와 같은 셀 중앙으로 부터의 거리에 기반해 셀룰러 망의 셀 에지(edge) 성능을 제시한다. BS 들은 하향링크 다중 셀 시스템에서 ICI (intercell interference) 제거를 위한 자신들의 SINR (signal-to-interference-noise ratio) 을 개선하기 위해 셀 에지 user 와 협력하여 송신한다. 제안한 새로운 모델은 다중 셀 시스템의 MIMO DC sum rate 용량을 계산한다. 이 모델은 협력 하향 링크 다중 셀 시스템에서 셀 간 간섭을 제거해 셀 에지 user의 성능을 개선시킨다. 모의실험 결과 제안한 방법이 망 경로 지수에 최소 영향을 주어 셀 에지 SINR 관점에서 기존 방법들보다 좋은 성능을 보였다. 경로손실 지수가 3.6인 경우에는 reuse-1에 비해 reuse-3을 사용한 결과 셀 에지 SINR에서 대략 13 dB가 개선되었다.

A Central Pressor Response to Endogenous Nitric Oxide Synthesis Inhibition in Anesthetized Rats

  • The present study was aimed to determine if endogenous L-arginine-nitric oxide (NO) pathway has central, rather than peripheral, mechanisms in blood pressure regulation. Arterial blood pressure and heart rate responses to acute inhibition of the t-arginine-NO pathway were examined in rats anesthetized with thiopental (50 mg/kg, IP). An intracerebroventricular (ICV) cannula was placed in the left lateral ventricle. The right femoral artery was cannulated to measure arterial blood pressure and the vein to serve as an infusion route. $N^G-nitro-L-arginine$ methyl ester (L-NAME) was infused either intracerebroventricularly or intravenously. ICV infusion $(1.25\;{\mu}L/min)$ of L-NAME $(20\;or\;100\;{\mu}g/kg)$ per minute for 60 min) increased the mean arterial pressure and heart rate. Plasma renin concentrations(PRC) were significantly lower in L-NAME-infused group than in the control. L-Arginine $(60\;{\mu}g/min,\;ICV)$ prevented the pressor response to ICV L-NAME. The pressor response was not affected by simultaneous intravenous infusion of saralasin, but was abolished by hexamethonium treatment. Intravenous infusion $(40\;{\mu}L/min,\;10{\sim}100\;{\mu}g/kg\;per\;minute\;for\;60\;min)$ also increased blood pressure, while it decreased heart rate. These results indicate that endogenous L-arginine-NO pathway has separate central and peripheral mechanisms in regulating the cardiovascular function. The central effect may not be mediated via activation of renin-angiotensin system, but via, at least in part, activation of the sympathetic outflow.

협역 전리층의 일관성을 이용한 다중 기준국 기반 전리층 이상 현상 감시 기법 (Based on Multiple Reference Stations Ionospheric Anomaly Monitoring Algorithm on Consistency of Local Ionosphere)

  • GNSS 측위 정확도에 영향을 주는 전리층 오차는 전리층에 존재하는 전자로 인해 위성의 전파가 굴절됨에 따라 발생하는데 태양활동 정도, 지역, 시간에 따라 그 값이 변한다. 정밀한 전리층 오차 추정이 가능한 이중주파수 수신기와 달리 단일 주파수 수신기의 경우에는 전리층 오차 모델이나 인근 고정기준국을 통해 제공 받는 의사거리 보정정보에 의존해야 한다. 하지만 일반적인 전리층 오차 경향과 달리, 국지적으로 전리층 총 전자수의 급격한 변화가 발생하는 경우 전리층 오차모델을 통한 오차 보정이 어려우며 만약 전리층의 변화가 고정기준국 상공의 전리층과 상이하다면, 의사거리 보정정보를 이용하여도 전리층 오차를 보정하지 못한다. 본 논문에서는, 이런 위험에 대처하기 위한 국지적 전리층 이상 현상에 대한 감시 기법에 대해 제안하고 실제 전리층 이상 현상이 발생한 데이터를 이용해 이를 검증하였다. 제시된 기법을 통해 전리층 이상 현상 발생 여부를 파악하고 단일 주파수 수신기 사용자의 항법해에 대한 신뢰도를 증가시킬 수 있을 것이다.

노동자 집단적 저항의 일상화와 중국의 노동정책 변화: 광둥성을 중심으로 (Routinization of Collective Labor Protests and Changing Labor Policies in China: Focusing on Guangdong Province Case)

  • 최근 몇 년 동안 중국의 노동 영역에서는 '건국 이후 최초'라는 수식어가 붙는 다양한 노동문제와 노동쟁의가 발생하고 있으며, 이는 특히 개혁개방의 전초기지인 광둥성에 집중되어 나타났다. 주목되는 점은 중국의 농민공이 점차 노동자의 정체성을 획득해 가면서 이익추구형 협상모델이 자리를 잡아가고 있다는 점이다. 중국 정부는 '안정유지'를 기조로 삼지만 노동쟁의를 제도화된 틀로 끌어들여 해결가기 위한 새로운 시도를 추진하고 있다. 중앙정부는 2015년 <조화로운 노동관계 확립에 관한 중국공산당 중앙 및 국무원 의견>을 발표해 구체적 방침들을 지시하였다. 광둥성은 이런 기조를 수용하면서 한 걸음 더 나아가 <단체협약조례>를 제정해 단체협상을 통해 노동-자본 갈등을 제도화하고자 한다. 그런데 이런 정책방침이 실효성을 얻으려면 공회(노동조합)가 제대로 기능을 하여야 하며, 이를 위해 이주노동자가 집중된 광둥성에서는 공회가 외부 전문 인력을 채용해 기층 조직 간부로 활용하는 '사회화간부'모델을 실험 중이다.
