  • The electrical stability of ZPCCY-based varistors composing of ZnO-Pr$_{6}$O$_{11}$-CoO-C $r_2$ $O_3$- $Y_2$ $O_3$ ceramics were investigated in various DC accelerated aging stress with sintering times. Sintering time greatly affected electrical properties and stability. Sintering time decreased nonlinear exponent in the range of 51.2∼23.8 and increased leakage current in the range of 1.3∼5.6 ${\mu}$A. The varistor sintered for 1 h exhibited high nonlinearity, whereas relatively low stability. On the contrary, the varistor sintered for 3 h exhibited low nonlinearity, whereas relatively high stability. But the varistor sintered for 2 h exhibited not only good nonlinearity, with nonlinear exponent of 38.6 and leakage current of 3.6 ${\mu}$A but also high stability, in which the variation rates of varistor voltage, nonlinear exponent, leakage current, and dissipation factor are -0.80%, -1.81 %, +74.4%, and +0.88%, respectively.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the polyphenol fraction isolated from pear on the reduction of fat accumulation in rats fed on high fat diet for 5 weeks, which was examined by analyzing the lipid composition in serum, liver and feces biochemically. It was shown that the levels of total lipid and total cholesterol in serum were remarkably reduced in polyphenol fraction supplemented group as compared with the control group. The levels of total lipid and triglyceride were also significantly lower in polyphenol group than control group. The contents of total lipid, total cholesterol and triglyceride in feces were tended to be slightly increased in polyphenol group compared to control group. The total protein and albumin of polyphenol groups were lower compared to those of control group, which were not significant.

  • The rates of the aminolysis of S-phenyl substituted-acetate series $(RC(=O)SC_6H_4Z$, with R=Me, Et, i-Pr, t-Bu and Bn) with benzylamines $(XC_6H_4CH_2NH_2)$ are not correlated simply with the Taft's polar $({\sigma}^{\ast})$ and/or steric effect constants $(E_s)$ of the substituents due to abnormally enhanced rate of the substrate with R=Et. Furthermore, the cross-interaction constant, ${\rho}x_z$ , is the largest with R=Et. These anomalous behaviors can only be explained by invoking the vicinal bond $({\sigma})$-antibond $({\sigma}^{\ast})$ charge transfer interaction between C-$C{\alpha}$ and C-S bonds. In the tetrahedral zwitterionic intermediate, $T^{\pm}$ , formed with R=Et the vicinal ${\sigma}_{c-c}-{\sigma}^{\ast}_{c-s}$ delocalization is the strongest with an optimum antiperiplanar arrangement and a narrow energy gap, ${\Delta}{\varepsilon}={\varepsilon}_{{\sigma}^{\ast}}-{\varepsilon}_{\sigma}$. Due to this charge transfer interaction, the stability of the intermediate increases (with the concomitant increase in the equilibrium constant K (= $k_a/k_{-a}$)) and also the leaving ability of the thiophenolate leaving group increases (and hence $k_b$ increases) so that the overall rate, $k_n\;=\;Kk_b$, is strongly enhanced. Theoretical support is provided by the natural bond orbital (NBO) analyses at the B3LYP/6-31+$G^{\ast}$ level. The anomaly exhibited by R=Et attests to the stepwise reaction mechanism in which the leaving group departure is rate limiting.

  • A "two-fluid" model using thermal eddy diffusivity concept and Lumley's drag reduction theory, is proposed to analyze heat transfer of the turbulent dilute gas-particle flow in a vertical pipe with constant wall heat flux. The thermal eddy diffusivity is derived to be a function of the ratio of the heat capacity-density products .rho. over bar $C_{p}$ of the gaseous phase and the particulate phase and also of the ratio of thermal relaxation time scale to that of turbulence. The Lumley's theory dictates the variation of the viscous sublayer thickness depending on the particle loading ratio Z and the relative particle size $d_{p}$/D. At low loading ratio, the size of viscous sublayer thickness is important for suspension heat transfer, while at higher loading, the effect of the ratio .rho. $_{p}$ over bar $C_{p}$$_{p}$/ .rho. $_{f}$ over bar $C_{p}$$_{f}$ is dominant. The major cause of decrease in the suspension Nusselt number at lower loading ratio is found to be due to the increase of the viscous sublayer thickness caused by the suppression of turbulence near the wall by the presence of solid particles. Predicted Nusselt numbers using the present model are in satisfactory agreements with available experimental data both in pipe entrance and the fully developed regions.

  • Taraxacum hallaisanense (pr), a species of the family Compositae is a perennial herb plants that inhabit to Jeju Island. In the study, we performed to determine the anti-inflammatory effects in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells and antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts from T. hallaisanense whole plants. The antioxidant activity of extracts was measured by contents of polyphenol and flavonoid, DPPH radical scavenging, and reducing power activity. The anti-inflammatory effect of T. hallaisanense extracts was measured by NO and $IL-1{\beta}$ production inhibitory activity and the expression of pro-inflammatory in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced Raw 264.7 cells. Also, the expression of pro-inflammatory genes such as iNOS, COX-2 and NF-kB protein were reduced. In the cytotoxicity measurement by cytotoxicity kit, the extract was exhibited Raw 264.7 cell viabilities as nontoxic result in concentration of $25{\sim}400{\mu}g/ml$. These results indicated that ethanol extracts of T. hallaisanense whole plants expected development possibility as nutrial additives through high anti-inflammatory effects and antioxidant activity.

  • Aromatic hydrocarbons are of major concern among genotoxic chemicals due to their toxicity and persistence. Some microorganisms can utilize aromatic hydrocarbons as carbon and energy sources by inducing expression of catabolic operon(s). The XylR regulatory protein activates transcription of the catabolic enzymes to degrade BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene) from its cognate promoters, Pu and Ps upon exposure of the cells to the aromatic hydrocarbons. The activity of XylR on the promoters was previously monitored using luciferase luc reporter system. The xylR, its promoter Pr and the promoter Po for the phenolic compound catabolic operon were introduced upstream of firefly luciferase luc in the pGL3b vector to generate about 7.1 kb of pXRBTEX. Here E. coli harboring the plasmid was freeze-dried under various conditions to fin,d optimal conditions for storage and transport. The cell viability and luciferase activity were maintained better, when the cells were freeze-dried at -7$0^{\circ}C$ in the addition of the 10% skim milk or 12% sucrose. However, coaddition of protectants such as 10% skim milk plus 10% glucose or 12% sucrose plus 10% glucose, resulted in much better viability and bioluminescence activity compared with the effect of single addition of each protectant. In addition, it was shown that the freeze-dried cells maintained almost intact bioluminescent activities and cell viability for at least 1 week after freeze-drying. This work demonstrated that the properly freeze-dried recombinant bacterial cells could be utilized as a whole-cell biosensor for simple and rapid monitoring of BTEX in the environment.

  • The nonlinear electrical properties and degradation behavior against an impulse-current of 400 A in the ZnO-$Pr_6O_{11}$-CoO-$Cr_2O_3$-$Y_2O_3$-$Er_2O_3$ (ZPCCYE) varistors were investigated with different $Y_2O_3/Er_2O_3$ ratios. The $Y_2O_3/Er_2O_3$ mole ratio has a significant effect on nonlinear electrical properties and impulse degradation behavior of the ZPCCYE varistors. The varistors added with $Y_2O_3/Er_2O_3$ = 0.5/0.5 exhibited the best nonlinear properties with 39 in nonlinear coefficient (${\alpha}$) and the best clamp characteristics, in which the clamping voltage ratio (K) was in the range of K = 1.62-2.18 at an impulse-current of 1-50 A. The varistors added with $Y_2O_3/Er_2O_3$ = 0.25/0.5 exhibited the best electrical stability, with $%{\Delta}E_{1mA/cm^2}$=-5.6%, $%{\Delta}{\alpha}$ = 6.7%, and $%{\Delta}J_L$ = -14.6% against an impulse-current of 400 A. On the contrary, the varistors added with $Y_2O_3/Er_2O_3$ = 0.5/0.5 were destroyed applying an impulse-current of 400 A.

  • Recent developments in nanocrystalline and nanocomposite rare earth-transition metal magnets are reviewed and emphasis is placed on research work at IFW Dresden. Principal synthesis methods include high energy ball milling, melt spinning, mold casting and hydrogen assisted methods such as reactive milling and hydrogenation-disproportionation-desorption-recombination. These techniques are applied to NdFeB-, PrFeB- and SmCo-type systems with the aim to produce high remanence magnets with high coercivity. Concepts of maximizing the energy density in nanostructured magnets by either inducing a texture via anisotropic HDDR or hot deformation or enhancing the remanence via magnetic exchange coupling are evaluated. With respect to high temperature applications melt spun $Sm(Co_{0.74}Fe_{0.1}Cu_{0.12}Zr_{0.04})_{7.5}$ ribbons were prepared, which showed coercivities of up to 0.53 T at 50$0^{\circ}C$. Partially amorphous $Nd_{60}Fe_xCo_{30-x}Al_{10}(0{\leq}x{\leq}30)$ alloys were prepared by copper mold casting. The effect of transition metal content on the glass-forming ability and the magnetic properties was investigated. The $Nd_{60}Co_{30}Al_{10}$ alloy exhibits an amorphous structure shown by the corresponding diffraction pattern. A small substitution of Co by 2.5 at.% Fe results In the formation of Fe-rich crystallites embedded in the Nd-rich amorphous matrix. The Fe-rich crystallites show hard magnetic behaviour at room temperature with a coercivity value of about 0.4 T, relatively low saturation magnetization and a Curie temperature of 500 K.

  • Bismuth layered structure ferroelectric thin films, $Bi_4$$Ti_3$$O_{12}$ / (BTO) and Nb-doped BTO (BTN) were prepared on the Pt(111)/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si(100) substrates by a sol-gel route. We investigated the Nb-doping effect on the grain orientation and ferroelectric properties. $Nb^{5+}$ ion substitution for $Ti^{4+}$ ion in perovskite layers of BTO decreased the degree of c-axis orientation and increased the remanent polarization (2Pr). The fatigue resistance of Nb-doped BTO thin film was shown to be superior to that of BTO, and the leakage current of Nb-doped BTO thin film was decreased about 1 order of magnitude compared with BTO. The improvement of ferroelectric properties with $Nb^{5+}$ doping in BTO could be attributed to the changes in space charge densities and grain orientation in the thin film.

  • An internal and external threat against an information system has increased, and to reduce it, organization has spent a great deal of money and manpower. However, in spite of such investment, security threat and trouble have happened continuously. Organization has conducted information security activity through various policies. The study classified such activities into prevention-oriented activity and control-oriented activity, and researched how information security activity of organization affects members of an organization and obeys information security policy by using health belief model. As a result of the study, prevention-oriented activity has a meaningful impact on seriousness, and this seriousness affects compliance intention for information security. Control-oriented activity has a meaningful impact on benefits, and the benefits have an effect on compliance intention. When an organization conducts prior activities such as education, PR, and monitoring, this organization should emphasize negative results that can happened because of deviation. In addition, in case of exposure and punishment through post activities such as inspection and punishment, if the organization emphasizes the positive effects of exposure and punishment rather than emphasis of negative parts, information security activity will be more effective.
