The present study is concerned with the extension of the Effective Convectivity Model (ECM) to the phase-change problem to simulate the dynamics of the melt pool formation in a Light Water Reactor (LWR) lower plenum during hypothetical severe accident progression. The ECM uses heat transfer characteristic velocities to describe turbulent natural convection of a melt pool. The simple approach of the ECM method allows implementing different models of the characteristic velocity in a mushy zone for non-eutectic mixtures. The Phase-change ECM (PECM) was examined using three models of the characteristic velocities in a mushy zone and its performance was compared. The PECM was validated using a dual-tier approach, namely validations against existing experimental data (the SIMECO experiment) and validations against results obtained from Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations. The results predicted by the PECM implementing the linear dependency of mushy-zone characteristic velocity on fluid fraction are well agreed with the experimental correlation and CFD simulation results. The PECM was applied to simulation of melt pool formation heat transfer in a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) and Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) lower plenum. The study suggests that the PECM is an adequate and effective tool to compute the dynamics of core melt pool formation.

Experimental studies on heat transfer and solidification of the molten metal pool with overlying coolant with boiling were performed The simulant molten pool material is tin (Sn) with the melting temperature of 232$^{\circ}C$. Demineralized water and R113 are used as the working coolant. This work examines the crust formation and the heat transfer characteristics of the molten metal pool immersed in the boiling coolant. The Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number in the molten metal Pool region of this study are compared between the water coolant case and the R113 coolant case. The experimental results or the water coolant are higher than those for R113. Also, the empirical relationship of the Nusselt number and the Rayleigh number is compared with the literature correlations measure from mercury. The present experimental results are higher than the literature correlations. It is believed that this discrepancy is caused by the effect of heat loss to the environment on the natural convection heat transfer in the molten pool.
This paper was concerned with pool fire about many used kerosene and diesel oil. In order to know the thermal effects of kerosene and diesel oil, temperature change in the pool fire of these fuels were obtained as a variation of combustion time and the tank's height and diameter by using the data acquisition system, And fuel combustion velocity were derived as a function of the diameter and wall thickness of tanks and combustion time. As a result, when the tank's height was 15㎝, the greater diameter the higher temperature rising regardless of tank's wall thickness and fuels. But, when the tank's height is 30㎝, temperature rising was not higher than 15㎝. Also, temperature rising in the pool fire of kerosene much higher than diesel oil. Kerosene's combustion velocity was about two times faster than diesel oil. And, kerosene's combustion velocity was increased according to the increasing of tank's diameter and combustion time. But, diesel oil's combustion velocity was a little increased or not. Surrounding temperature change of tank with the pool fire was obtained temperature distribution of 0∼35℃ according to the change of tank's diameter and distance from the tank's wall.

Recently, in accordance with the interesting on well-being as well as the revitalization of living athletics, it is current tendency that people who use the swimming pools are on increasing. However, because the most of indoor swimming pools have ever used the reflection finishing materials likely as the tile due to the property of its hydrophilic space, the inside of indoor swimming pool is vibrating too much, and some problem which the voice and music do not delivering clearly is occurring when swimming lessons or underwater aerobics(synchronized swimming) and swimming game. Based on such viewpoint, locating the object on actually built indoor swimming pool, this Study has ever grasped its physical acoustic property, and finally designed the indoor swimming pool that contains an optimum acoustic condition, by remodelling it through an acoustic simulation. It is considered that such study result could be utilized as the useful materials when constructing the similar indoor swimming pool, hereafter.

Pulse boiling, the unsteady periodic boiling phenomenon appearing in the evaporator of thermosyphons was investigated by many researchers. In the present study investigations were conducted to examine the evolution of flow patterns at the evaporator, and changes in thermodynamic state that each of liquid pool and vapor experiences through 1 cycle of pulse boiling process. For wall and liquid pool the degree of superheat for the onset of nucleation was examined. It revealed that the degree of superheat increased with the increase of pulse period, reaching to 16.5 deg.C and 23 deg.C for liquid pool and evaporator wall respectively at .tau.=80 sec. The data on flow patterns obtained through series of operation tests were plotted in the coordinates of heat flux and vapor pressure to get a regime map. Further this map could be used to figure out the conditions of pulse boiling for a thermosyphon.
Hemangioma is the most common benign tumor of the liver, with a prevalence estimated as high as 7%. Tc-99m red blood cell (RBC) hepatic blood pool scan with single photon omission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging is extremely useful for the confirmation or exclusion of hepatic hemangiomas. The classic finding of absent or decreased perfusion and increased blood pooling ("perfusion/blood pool mismatch") is the key diagnostic element in the diagnosis of hemangiomas. The combination of early arterial flow and delayed blood pooling ("perfusion/blood pool match") is shown uncommonly. In giant hemangioma, filling with radioactivity appears first in the periphery, with progressive central fill-in on sequential RBC blood pool scan. However, the reverse filling pattern, which begins first in the center with progressive peripheral filling, is also rarely seen. Studies with false-positive blood pooling have been reported infrequently in nonhemangiomas, including hemangiosarcoma, hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatic adenoma, and metastatic carcinomas (adenocarcinoma of the colon, small cell carcinoma of the lung, neruroendocrine carcinoma). False-negative results have been also reported rarely except for small hemagniomas that are below the limits of spatial resolution of gamma camera.

A series of measurements and visualization to investigate the interaction of water sprays with pool fires is presented. Fire source is a small-scale pool burner with methanol, ethanol and gasoline. Measurements of temperatures, $O_2$, $CO_2$, and CO concentrations along the plume centerline are carried out to observe pool fire structures without water sprays. Visualization by the Ar-ion laser sheet shows flow pattern of droplets of the sprays above the pool fires. It is observed that in the case of methanol and ethanol, water sprays continuously penetrate into the center of fuel surfaces. The gasoline pool fire allows intermittent penetration of water sprays because of pulsating characteristics of the gasoline flame. To evaluate the cooling effect of the fuel surface by the sprays, the temperature was measured at the fuel surface. As soon as the mists reach the fuel surface of methanol and ethanol, the temperatures of the fuel surface decrease rapidly below the boiling point, and then the fires are extinguished. Due to the application of mist upon the gasoline fire, though the fuel temperature decrease abruptly at the time of the injection, such a rapid decrease do not continue till the extinction point.

This study is intended to understand flame behavior of the pool fire by height of fire source. Liquid fuels were methanol and n-Heptane which are used in many studies of pool fire. Size of vessel was $100mm{\times}100mm{\times}50mm$ and the vessel was made by stainless steel. Combustion time, mass loss rate, flame temperature, flame height and air entrainment rate from the outside to flame were measured, and flame behavior was visualized with video camera. Based on the experiment, it was found that combustion characteristics of pool fire was decreased according to increase of height of fire source because entrainment volume of relative cold air was increased from the outside to flame.

Predicting the sloshing motion of a coolant during a seismic assessment of a rectangular spent fuel pool is of critical concern. Linear theory, which provides a simple analytical method, has been used to predict the sloshing motion in rectangular pools and tanks. However, this theory is not suitable for the high-frequency excitation problem. In this study, the authors developed a simple analytical method for predicting the sloshing motion in a rectangular pool for a wide range of excitation frequencies. The correlation among the linear theory parameters, influencing on excitation and convective waves, and the excitation frequency is investigated. Sloshing waves in a rectangular pool with several liquid heights are predicted using the original linear theory, a modified linear theory and computational fluid dynamics analysis. The results demonstrate that the developed method can predict sloshing motion over a wide range of excitation frequencies. However, the developed method has the limitations of linear solutions since it neglects the nonlinear features of sloshing motion. Despite these limitations, the authors believe that the developed method can be useful as a simple analytical method for predicting the sloshing motion in a rectangular pool under various external excitations.

The municipal government of Daejeon, Korea set up a plan to retrofit solar energy to the existing swimming pool. The pool was constructed in 1980, and meets the requirements of International standard. It will be used for the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Seoul Olymipics. The roof structure of the existing pool is to be modified to accomodate trickle solar collectors. In addition, various energy conserving ideas will be applied to the existing building structure. For the prevention of over heating of collectors on the roof, natural air convection scheme will be adopted within the collector system. Natural convection of passive type heating would be also adopted for the space heating of the pool when the system is idle. At present, the pool can be utilized only for two months a year without auxilairy heating. With oil heating, the energy cost would be too high for the normal operation. When this project completed in March 1984, it would be expected to be openable for seven months a year without a significan amount of auxiliary heating. In this project, two dimensional numerical analysis technic have been used to analyse the characterisitics of thermal performance of the swimming pool system. An experimental tat verification of the theoretical analysis have been also attempted.
