마산만에서 입자수치실험에 의한 해파리 분포연구 (A Study of Distribution of Jellyfish by Particle Numerical Experiment in Masan Bay)

  • 마산만에서 수치모델을 이용하여 해파리의 시 공간적 분포를 파악하였다. 먼저 3차원 해수유동모델(POM)을 이용하여 조석, 바람, 수온 염분의 효과를 고려한 잔차류를 계산하였다. 마산만의 마산항, 중공업단지, 가포신항에서 발생한 해파리의 거동을 파악하기 위하여 잔차류에 의한 입자추적자 모델을 이용하였다. 해파리의 분포는 마창대교 북쪽해역에서 최대인 2,533 개체수가 나타났다. 이와 같은 현상은 잔차류의 다방향으로 혼재하는 흐름과 지형적인 영향으로 판단된다. 해파리의 이동에 영향을 미치는 잔차류가 우세한 해역에서 외력조건에 따른 해파리의 집적도를 알아보기 위해서 조석잔차류, 취송류, 밀도류의 유형별 수치실험을 하였다. 특히 마산만의 마창대교와 마산만 입구인 모도해역에서는 취송류(바람에 의한 효과)가 해파리의 집적에 탁월한 것을 확인하였다.

  • Cortical support is an important factor, as the engagement of the fixture in strong compact bone offers an increased load-carrying capacity and initial stability. Because of the poor bone quality in the posterior mandible and other anatomic considerations, it has been suggested that implant fixtures be placed in these locations with apical engagement of the lingual cortical plate for so-called bicortication. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effect of cortical engagements and in addition polyoxymethylene(POM) intramobile connector(IMC) of IMZ implant on implant load transfer in edentulous posterior segment of mandible, using three-dimensional (3D) finite element analysis models composed of cortical and trabecular bone involving single implant. Variables such as (1) the crestal peri-implant defect, (2) the apical engagement of lingual cortical plate, (3) the occlusal contact position (a vertical load at central fossa or buccal cusp tip), and (4) POM IMC were investigated. Stress patterns were compared and interfacial stresses along the bone-implant interface were monitored specially. Within the scope of this study, the following observations were made. 1) Offset load and angulation of fixture led to increase the local interfacial stresses. 2) Stresses were concentrated toward the cortical bones, but the crestal peri-implant defect increased the interfacial stresses in trabecular bone. 3) For the model with bicortication, it was noticed that the crestal cortical bone provided more resistance to the bending moment and the lingual cortical plate provided more support for the vertical load. But Angulation problem of the fixture from the lingual cortical engagement caused the local interfacial stress concentrations. 4) It was not clear that POM IMC had the effect on stress distribution under the present experimental conditions, especially for the cases of crestal peri-implant defect.

일본 후쿠시마 근해에서 방출된 오염물질에 미치는 태풍의 영향 (Effect of Typhoons on Contaminants Released from the Southern Sea around Fukushima of Japan)

  • We examined the diffusion of contaminants released from the southern coast around Fukushima, Japan, during the passage of typhoons using a three-dimensional numerical model (POM) to track diffusing radioactivity (RA) released from the nuclear power plant at Fukushima following the accident caused by the giant tsunami event in March 2011. Radioactive contaminants released during the passage of typhoons may have significantly affected not only Japanese but also Korean coastal waters. The model domain covered most of the northwestern Pacific including marginal seas such as the East/Japan Sea and the Yellow Sea. Several numerical experiments were conducted case studies focusing on the westward diffusion from the southern coast of Japan of contaminants derived from the source site (Fukushima) according to various attributes of the typhoons, such as intensity, track, etc. The model produced the following results 1) significant amounts of contaminants were transported in a westward direction by easterly winds favorable for generating a coastal air stream along the southern Japanese coast, 2) the contaminants reached as far as Osaka Bay with the passage of typhoons, forced by a 5-day positive sinusoidal form with a (right-) northward track east of Fukushima, and 3) the range of contamination was significant, extending to the interior of the East/Japan Sea around the Tsugaru Strait. The model suggests that contaminants and/or radioactivity released from Fukushima with the passage of typhoons can affect Korean waters including the northeastern East/Japan Sea around the Tsugaru Strait, especially when the typhoon tracks are favorable for generating a westward coastal air stream along the southern Japanese coast.

  • The conventional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (C-SHPB) technique with aluminum pressure bars to achieve a closer impedance match between the pressure bars and the specimen materials such as hot temperature degraded POM (Poly Oxy Methylene) and PP (Poly Propylene) to obtain more distinguishable experimental signals is used to obtain a dynamic behavior of material deformation under a high strain rate loading condition. An experimental modification with Pulse shaper is introduced to reduce the nonequilibrium on the dynamic material response during a short test period to increase the rise time of the incident pulse for two polymeric materials. For the dynamic stress strain curve obtained from SHPB experiment under high strain rate, the Johnson-Cook model is applied as a constitutive equation, and we verify the applicability of this constitutive equation to the probabilistic reliability estimation method. The methodology to estimate the reliability using the probabilistic method such as the FORM and the SORM has been proposed, after compose the limit state function using Johnson-Cook model. It is found that the failure probability estimated by using the SORM is more reliable than those of the FORM, and the failure probability increases with the increase of applied stress. Moreover, it is noted that the parameters of Johnson-Cook model such as A and n, and applied stress affect the failure probability more than the other random variables according to the sensitivity analysis.

수치모델을 이용한 한국 남해의 유동특성 이해 (Understanding the Flow Properties by a Numerical Modeling in the South Sea of Korea)

  • 한국 남해에서 조류와 취송류, 밀도류 그리고 잔차류의 특성을 이해하기 위하여 3차원유동모델(POM; Princeton Ocean Model)을 이용하였다. 조석 잔차류의 분포를 보면, 대조기에는 동쪽 방향으로의 흐름이, 소조기에는 서쪽으로의 흐름이 우세하였다. 잔차류는 연안에서 지형의 효과로 인하여 불규칙하게 나타났다. 연안역에서의 밀도류는 비교적 약하고 계절적인 차이는 작다. 외해에서는 특별한 유동현상을 주목해야 한다. 즉, 외양역에서의 흐름은 쓰시마 해류와 유사한 결과를 보이고 있다. 연안역에서의 취송류는 외해역에서 보다 매우 강하게 나타났다. 또한 표층의 해류가 저층의 해류보다 강하게 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 통하여 남해안에서의 물질 이동 확산을 예측하기 위한 기초자료로 활용 가능 할 것으로 판단된다.

Model Parametrization on the Mixing Behavior of Coastal Discharges

  • A common feature in the three-dimensional numerical model experiments of coastal discharge with simplifed model and idealized external forcings is investigated. The velocity fields due to the buoyancy and flow flux, are spreaded radiately and the surface velocites are much greater than homegeneous discharges. The coastal dischargd due to the Coriolis force and flow flux are shaped a anticyclical gyre (clockwise) and determined the scale of the gyre in the coastal zone, respectively. The bottom topography restricts a outward extention of the coastal fronts and it accelerates a southward flow.

태풍통과시 동해에서의 해수면 냉각현상 (Sea Surface Cooling in the East Sea with the Passage of Typhoons)

  • Sea surface cooling (SSC) with the passage of typhoons is examined in the East Sea using the Japan Meteorological Agency buoy data $(37^{\circ}45'N,\;134^{\circ}23'E)$ during 1983-2000 and a three-dimensional primitive equation model (the Princeton Ocean Model). Forty typhoons in this period induced the SST decrease ranging from about $-0.5^{\circ}C\;to\;-4.3^{\circ}C.$ Intense SSC $(<-2^{\circ}C)$ occurs with typhoons that passed mainly through the left-hand side of the buoy station. The model is implemented to examine a physical process of SSC with a typical-track typhoon in the northwestern Pacific $(24^{\circ}N\;to\;52^{\circ}N).$ The model well reproduces prominent features in the observation and addresses how it happens; SSC is induced mainly by momentum mixing effect stirred with the typhoon rather than upwelling.

부산항 실시간 해양예보시스템 구축을 위한 기초연구 (Preliminary Study for Establishing the Realtime Ocean Prediction System in Busan Harbor)

  • 근래 컴퓨터 수치모델이 급속하게 발전함으로써 다양한 분야에서 수치예보기술이 응용되고 있다. 실시간 해양예보시스템도 그 중의 하나로 관측시스템, 정보제공시스템 및 모델링 시스템을 결합하여 실시간 해양정보를 제공함으로써 해상교통의 안전과 연안환경의 보호에 기여하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 부산항 실시간 해양예보시스템의 구축을 위한 기초연구로서 모델링 시스템을 개발하였으며 그 결과를 제시하고 있다. 현재 기존의 관측자료가 부족하여 M2조석의 모델링만으로 시스템의 테스트를 행하였으나 앞으로 실시간 관측자료가 충분히 구비되면 전면적인 시스템의 테스트가 필요하다. 아울러 추후 관측시스템과 정보제공시스템이 계속 구축될 예정이며 이들 시스템이 모두 구비되고 나면 인터넷을 통한 실시간 정보제공이 이루어질 수 있을 것이다.

태풍이 적조에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Typhoons on Red Tide)

  • It is well known that typhoons strongly influence marine ecosystems. For example, red tides nearly disappear after the passage of typhoons, although the physical or biological mechanism underlying this has not been elucidated. Here, a particle tracking model is executed in a three-dimensional primitive equation model to understand the process of red tide extinction after the passage of a typhoon. Red tide organisms may be regarded as tracers because they have limited mobility and thus their behavior is governed entirely by currents. Initially, tracers are randomly scattered within a limited area, and their spatial and temporal behavior is tracked during and after the passage of a typhoon. This model suggests that the extinction of red tides is significantly influenced by momentum disturbances caused by the typhoon.

  • The effect of critical minimum depth in the coastal region on storm surges was examined using a three-dimensional primitive equation model (POM). Case studies using numerical experiments in a small coastal bay in the southern sea of Korea (Hanam Bay) have examined the 'critical depth' (CD) that stabilizes the numerical calculations. Dependence of the CD of typhoon tracks and tidal components such as M2, S2, O1, and K1 were examined. The model results clearly demonstrated that the numerically unstable state of the calculation was caused by the coarse resolution of sea surface elevation.
