  • Of all the many types of machine elements which exist today, gears are among the most commonly used. Many researches have been done to manufacture helical gears by cold forging and extrusion. Although cold forging and extrusion were applied to some bevel, spur, and helical gears, problems in connection with reducing forming load and tool life still make it difficult for the related methods to be commercialized. In this study, focusing on reducing load in forming helical gears, extrusion of helical gears by a two-step process is proposed. The process is composed of an extrusion step of spur gears used as preform and a torsion step of the preform to make helical gears. Upper-bound analysis for the two-step process is performed and compared with results of experiments. The newly proposed method can be used as an advanced forming technique to remarkably reduce the forming load and replace the conventional forming process of helical gears.

  • A fully integrated high-efficiency linear CMOS power amplifier (PA) is developed for 802.11n WLAN applications using the 65-nm standard CMOS technology. The transformer topology is investigated to obtain a high-efficiency and high-linearity performance. By adopting a 2:2 output transformer, an optimum impedance is provided to the PA core. Besides, a LC harmonic control block is added to reduce the AM-to-AM/AM-to-PM distortions. The CMOS PA produces a saturated power of 26.1 dBm with a peak power-added efficiency (PAE) of 38.2%. The PA is tested using an 802.11n signal, and it satisfies the stringent error vector magnitude (EVM) and mask requirements. It achieves -28-dB EVM at an output power of 18.6 dBm with a PAE of 14.7%.

  • The objectives of this paper are to achieve good planarization of the deposited film and to improve deposition efficiency of multi-layer structures by using surface-micromaching process in MEMS technology. Planarization characteristic of poly-Si film deposited on thin oxide layer with MEMS structures is evaluated with different slurries. Patterns used for this research have shapes of square, density, line, hole, pillar, and micro engine part. Advantages and disadvantages of CMP for MEMS structures are observed respectively by using the test patterns with structures larger than 1 um line width. Preliminary tests for material selectivity of poly-Si and oxide are conducted with two types of slurries: ILD1300 and Nalco2371. And then, the experiments were conducted based on the pretest.

  • As the technique of high-speed end-milling is widely adopted to machining field. The investigation for microscopic precision of workpiece is necessary for machinability evolution. The environmental pollution has become a big problem in industry and many researcher have investigated in order to preserve the environment. The environmentally conscious machining and technology have more important position in machining process. In the milling process, the cutting fluid has greatly bad influence on the environment. The damaged layer affect mold life and machine parts in machining. In this study, the cutting force, the surface roughness, micro hardness and residual stress is evaluated according to machining environment. Finally, it is obtained that the characteristics of damaged layer in environmentally conscious machining is better than that in conventional machining using cutting fluid.

  • The coal considerably is the energy resource which is important with the new remarking energy resource. The coal conversion has two processes which are coal devolatilization and char oxidation. Coal devolatilization is important because it describes up to 70% weight loss and has been shown that nitrogen contribute 60 to 80% of the total NOx produced. The chemical percolation devolatilization(CPD) model is used here to describe coal devolatilization. The model was developed to describe coal devolatilization behavior of rapidly heated coal based on characteristics of the chemical structure of the parent coal. This paper describes CPD model in detail and makes an analysis of Shenhua coal(bituminous) which is used calculated 13-C NMR(carbon-nuclear magnetic resonance).

  • A Stereolithography technology is based on stacking of sliced layer from STL file that is converted from 3-dimensional CAD data. A microstereolithography technology is evolved from conventional stereolithography to fabricate microstructures. In this technology, we have to consider influence of resin flow to make refresh surface. To generate new resin surface, stage has to be moved downward deeply and upward to desired position. At this time, resin flow affects to refresh surface of resin. And resin viscosity is the key factor in simulation of resin flow. By setting optimal refresh time for resin surface, total fabrication time is reduced and there is no damage to fabricated layers. In this research, we simulate resin flow using CFD software and derive optimal stage moving time and dwelling time.

  • This paper deals with the aspects of die design for the multistage fine tooth hub gear in the cold forging process. In order to manufacture the cold forged product fur the precision hub gear used as the ARD 370 system of bicycle, it examines the influences of different designs on the metal flow through experiments and FE-simulation. To find the combination of design parameters which minimize the damage value, the low gear length, upper gear length and inner diameter as design parameters are considered. An orthogonal fraction factorial experiment is employed to study the influence of each parameter on the objective function or characteristics. The optimal punch shape of fine tooth hub gear is designed using the results of FE-simulation and the artificial neural network. To verify the optimal punch shape, the experiments of the cold forging of the hub gear are executed.

  • Considering the role of viscosity in the hemorheology, the characteristics of non-Newtonian fluid are important in the pulsatile blood flows. Stenosis, with an abnormal narrowing of the vessel, contributes to block blood flows to downstream tissue and lead to plaque rupture. Therefore, systematic analysis of blood flow around stenosed vessels is crucial. In this study, non-Newtonian behaviors of blood analog fluids around the micro-stenosis with 60 % severity in diameter of $500{\mu}m$ was examined by using CFX under the pulsatile flow conditions with the period of 10 s. Viscosity information of two non-Newtonian fluids were obtained by fitting the value of normal blood and highly viscous blood. As the Newtonian fluid, the water at room temperature was used. During the pulsatile phase, wall shear stress (WSS) is highly oscillated. In addition, high viscous solution gives rise to increases the variation in the WSS around the micro-stenosis. Highly oscillating WSS enhance increasing tendency of plaque instability or rupture and damage of the tissue layer. These results, related to the influence on the damage to the endothelium or stenotic lesion, may help clinicians understand relevant mechanisms.

  • RBC (red blood cell) deformability is one of factors inducing blood shear thinning effect. Reduction of RBC deformability increases blood viscosity in high shear region. In this study, 3D printed chip with proper distribution of wall shear rate (WSR) was proposed to measure RBC deformability of blood samples. To fabricate 3D printed chip, the design of 3D printed chip determined through numerical simulation was modified based on the resolution of the 3D printer. For the estimation of pressure drop in the 3D printed chip, two bypass outlets with low and high WSR are exposed to atmospheric pressure through the needles. By positioning the outlet of needles in the gravity direction, the formation of droplets at bypass outlets can be captured by smartphone. Through image processing and fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis, the frequency of droplet formation was analyzed. Since the frequency of droplet formation is related with the pressure at bypass, high pressure drop caused by reduction of RBC deformability can be estimated by monitoring the formation of blood droplets using the smartphone.
