PM 기반의 OLED 디스플레이 픽셀 어레이 설계 및 구현 (OLED Display Pixel Array Design and Embodiment of PM base)

  • 고도의 정보가 집약되고 응용되기 시작하면서 정보를 표현하고자 하는 방법에 대한 연구는 더욱 절실히 요구되고 있다. 자연색에 가까운 고품질의 색상의 화면을 제공하기 위해 디스플레이의 무게와 크기, 전력소모 등의 많은 부분에 대해 연구가 진행되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 모든 기능을 충족시켜주는 차세대 디스플레이인 OLED(Organic Light-Emitting Diode)에 대한 구동 드라이브를 디지털 회로에 응용하고자 정확한 동작에 필요한 방법에 대해 소개하고 개선점에 대한 연구를 하였다

n-채널 다결정 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터의 문턱전압 변동 보상을 위한 전압 기입 AMOLED 화소회로 (A Voltage Programming AMOLED Pixel Circuit Compensating Threshold Voltage Variation of n-channel Poly-Si TFTs)

  • 본 논문에서는 n-채널 저온 다결정 실리콘 박막 트랜지스터의 문턱전압 변동을 보상할 수 있는 전압 기입 AMOLED 화소회로를 제안하였다. 제안한 6T1C 화소회로는 5개의 스위칭 박막 트랜지스터, 1개의 OLED 구동 박막 트랜지스터 및 1개의 정전용량으로 구성되어 있다. SmartSpice 시뮬레이션 결과, 구동 트랜지스터의 문턱전압이 ${\pm}0.33$ V 변동시 최대 OLED 전류의 오차율은 7.05 %이고 Vdata = 5.75 V에서 OLED 양극 전압 오차율은 0.07 %로 제안한 6T1C 화소회로가 구동 트랜지스터의 문턱전압 변동에도 균일한 OLED 전류를 공급함을 확인하였다.

Development of Vertical Alignment System for Manufacturing AMOLED TV

  • We once have announced that we developed a horizontal large-area alignment system with an alignment accuracy of < ${\pm}3{\mu}m$ and an alignment time of < 30 seconds, a core process module for RGB direct pattering by using a fine metal mask, which can process a Gen 4 ($730{\times}920mm^2$) substrate for high resolution OLED products. In this article, we presents a brand-new vertical alignment system for a even larger substrate of Gen 5 and beyond which can provide a better alignment accuracy and a higher throughput. The newly developed system exhibits an alignment accuracy of < ${\pm}2{\mu}m$ and an alignment time of < 20 seconds which, we believe, can open a new era for manufacturing large-size OLED monitors and TVs.

적색과 청색 형광 물질을 사용한 백색 적층 OLED (White Tandem Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using Red and Blue Fluorescent Materials)

  • We studied white tandem organic light-emitting diodes using red and blue fluorescent materials. White 2 units tandem OLEDs were fabricated using $Alq_3$:Rubrene (3 vol.% 5 nm) and SH-1 : BD-2 (3 vol.% 25 nm) as emitting layer (EML). The device with $Alq_3$ : Rubrene (3 vol.% 5 nm) / SH-1 : BD-2 (3 vol.% 25 nm) showed yellowish white emission with a Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.442, 0.473) at $1,000cd/m^2$, and variation of CIE coordinates was low with ($0.44{\pm}0.002$, $0.472{\pm}0.001$) from 500 to $3,000cd/m^2$. White 3 units tandem OLEDs were fabricated by additory stacking the blue or white layer as EML. CIE coordinates of 3 units tandem OLEDs with stacked blue and white layer was low variation of ($0.293{\pm}0.008$, $0.36{\pm}0.005$) and ($0.412{\pm}0.002$, $0.423{\pm}0.001$) from 500 to $3,000cd/m^2$, respectively. Our findings suggest that stacked OLED was possible to controlling CIE coordinates and producing excellent color stability.

  • It is very important to get a stable and large-capacity organic effusion source for achievement of OLED mass-production equipment. We present an organic effusion source with film uniformity less than ${\pm}$ 5%, the material charge volume, 300cc for $400{\times}400\;mm^2$ substrate. The fine metal shadow mask alignment technology, one of the color forming technique, also have to support more accurate and fast operating in mass-production. In this paper, we will describe the OLED mass-production equipment with the large volume effusion source and the precision shadow mask alignment technique.

  • Doosan Mecatec has developed alignment system for Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) display production using large size substrate. In the present article, The alignment system between the substrate and the mask, which is a core technology for producing the OLED product using the fourth-generation substrate with $730{\times}920mm^2$ or more, will be described by dividing into a substrate loader, a magnet unit, a CCD camera, etc. The substrate loader is optimized through the simulation where the central portion of the substrate droops by about 1.5mm by clamping each of a long side (920mm direction) and a short side (730mm direction) thereof by 6 point and 4 point. A magnet unit using a sheet type of rubber magnet is constituted and a CCD camera model with the specifications capable of minimizing the errors between a clear image and the same image is selected. The system to which an upward evaporation technique of small molecular organic materials will be applied has been developed so that repeatability and position accuracy becomes ${\pm}1{\mu}m$ or less using an UVW type of stage. Also, the vision accuracy of the CCD camera becomes ${\pm}1{\mu}m$ or less and the align process TACT becomes 30sec. or less so that the final alignment accuracy between the substrate and the mask becomes ${\pm}3{\mu}m$ or less. In order to meet an extra-large glass substrate, an evaporation system using an extra-large AMOLED substrate has been developing through a vertical type of an alignment system.

Radio Frequency Plasma Power변화에 따른 ITO 특성 및 OLED의 광학적 특성 (Optical Properties of Organic Light Emitting Diode and Characteristics of ITO by Variation of Radio Frequency Plasma Power)

  • We has been analysed optical properties of OLED(organic light emitting diode) and characteristics of ITO(Indium Tin Oxide) in terms of $O_2$ plasma treatment for manufacturing high efficiency OLED, RF power of $O_2$ plasma was changed 25, 50, 100, 200 W. $O_2$ gas flow, gas pressure and treatment time were fixed. Sheet resistance and surface roughness of ITO were measured by Hall-effect measurement system and AFM, respectively. The ranges of sheet resistance and surface roughness were $5.5{\sim}6,06\;{\Omega}$ and $2.438{\sim}3.506\;nm$ changing of RF power, respectively, PM(Passive Matrix)OLED was fabricated with the structure of ITO(plasm treatment)/TPD($400\;{\AA}$)/$Alq_3(600\;{\AA})$/LiF($5\;{\AA}$)/Al($1200\;{\AA}$). Turn-on voltage of PMOLED was 7 V and luminance was $7,371\;cd/m^2$ at the RF power of 25 W, $O_2$ plasma treatment of ITO surface was result in lowering the operating voltage and improving luminance of PMOLED.

  • OLED in the spotlight of display market has advantages of low power driving, self-emission and fast response. But it has disadvantages of inefficient luminescence and high power consumption. Most of PM(passive Matrix) DC-DC converters in common use is using voltage divider. This voltage divider type has some difficulties of suitable electric device selection for voltage division and of the stabilized output due to feedback current trimming. Therefore, noise analysis and power solution in OLED are important technologies having an effect on electric characteristics. In this dissertation, we have obtained the stable output by using digital signals in multi-channel DC-DC converter, the profit of power consumption reduction of driving source and economical efficiency in the PCB board size.

수동형 OLED를 위한 복합 전류 제어 기능을 갖는 AWM 구동방식 (AWM Driving Method with Hybrid Current Control for PM-OLED Panel)

  • 본 논문은 OLED 패널 소스 구동회로에서 구동 전류의 크기와 폭을 조절하는 새로운 amplitude width modulation(AWM) 방식을 제안하였다. 기존의 소스 구동회로에서 pulse amplitude modulation(PAM) 방식은 DAC 회로 추가로 인해 크기가 커진다는 단점이 있고, pulse width modulation(PWM) 방식은 낮은 그레이 신호 레벨에서 발광 효율이 나쁜 단점이 있다. 이와 같은 단점을 개선하기 위해 본 논문에는 색상 데이터 비트의 MSB를 이용하여 구동 전류의 레벨을 제어하고, 데이터 비트의 LSB를 이용하여 구동 전류의 폭을 조정하는 구동방식을 제안하였다. 제안된 구동 방식은 $0.35-{\mu}m$ 3-poly 4-metal CMOS high voltage 공정을 사용하여 구현하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 제안된 AWM 구동 회로가 PAM 방식에 비해 회로 크기를 줄였고 신호 레벨이 낮은 영역에서 PAM과 거의 동일한 발광 효율을 얻었다.
