  • Speed control systems of the governor in power station used in this study is organized by the regulator (PID controller), actuator and turbine. Considering parameter uncertainties and disturbances in this system, the performance may not be achieved by the PID control. Therefore, a design technique is necessary that accomplish the desired system performance tolerance in despite of plant uncertainty i\I1d disturbances. In this study, we used QFT(Quantitative Feedback Theory) to provide stable operation in power plant and presented the genetic algorithm for loop shaping approximation technique of QFT. And we designed speed control systems for the governor using the above approach.proach.

  • An optical head actuator of an optical disk drive consists of two servo mechanisms for the focusing and the tracking to acquire data from disk. As the rotational speed of the disk grows, the utilized lag-lead-lead compensator has known to be above its ability for precisely controlling the optical head actuator. To overcome the difficulty, this paper propose a new controller design method for optical head actuator based fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control and the genetic algorithm(GA). It employs a two-stage control structure with a fuzzy PI and a fuzzy PD control and is optimized by the GA to yield the suboptimal fuzzy PID control performance. It is shown the feasibility of the proposed method through a numerical tracking actuator simulation.

  • Many control techniques have been proposed in order to improve the control performance of the control system. The degree of freedom on control in the control system is decided by the number of the closed-loop transfer function which can adjust independently. The controller design scheme with two degrees of freedom(TDOF) is extensively used for securing the good control performance to trace a desired value and reject disturbance. In this paper, PID controller is used by controller with TDOF and the design method for control system with TDOF is proposed by the normal method. Using the coefficients of the transfer function of the plant, the transfer function of the control system is normalized by the proposed design method and the parameters of the controller are determined. The control system with the TDOF is constructed by using this method. Through the simulation results, the usefulness of the proposed algorithm is proved.

  • In this paper, we propose a virtual tuning technique for a temperature controller using the PID algorithm. Virtual simulation on a computer was used using the mathematical expression of the control object. A technique for accurately calculating the gain of the PID algorithm was introduced through detailed computer data analysis, and superior performance compared to conventional experimental tuning results was verified. In addition, it has the advantage of replacing tuning experiments conducted on actual control subjects, so there are no temporal or spatial limitations. Tuning experiments that actually operate the control object do not show detailed data that appears during the process. The accuracy of the experiment could not be guaranteed, and the results could not be confirmed immediately. Through the proposed technique, the entire tuning process can be accurately checked on a computer and the cause of problems that occur can also be analyzed.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of a predictive PID controller which has similar features to the model-based predictive controller. A PID type control structure is defined, which includes prediction of the outputs and the recalculation of new set points using the future set point data. The optimal values of the PID gains are precalculated using the values of gains calculated from an unconstrained generalized predictive control algorithm. Simulation studies demonstrate the performance of the proposed controller and the results are compared with the conventional PID and fuzzy control algorithms.

  • Optimal control gain for time-delay systems is made by an optimal control gain for delay-free systems multiplied by a state transition function for the delay time. The optimal control gain for delay-free systems is obtained by pushing two zeros of the PID controller closely to a larger pole of the second order plant. Thus the optimal tuning of PID controller for time-delay second order system is able to be obtained by calculation for the state transition function.

  • Quadrotor is simple to model because of the symmetric structure but it has the disadvantage of being relatively sensitive to the external disturbance and system uncertainty. The PID technique applied for the attitude control of quadrotor has been applied comprehensively, but it has a disadvantage that is hard to precise control in the nonlinear system. In this work, a quadrotor attitude control law using the super twisting algorithm is studied, which has robust characteristics against disturbance and system uncertainty. To evaluate the attitude performance by the proposed technique, simulation studies and actual flight tests are carried out, and compared with the conventional PID controller.

  • Robust control for DC servo motor is needed according to the highest precision of industrial automation. However, when a motor control system with PID controller has an effect of load disturbance, it is very difficult to guarantee the robustness of control system. As a compensation method solving this problem, in this paper, PID-neural network hybrid control method for motor control system is presented. The output of neural network controller is determined by error and rate of error change occurring in load disturbance. The robust control of DC servo motor using neural network controller is demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • An adaptive PID sliding mode controller is proposed for the position control of electro-hydrostatic actuator(EHA) systems with system uncertainties and saturation in the motor. An EHA prototype is developed and system modeling and parameter identification are executed. Then, adaptive PID sliding mode controller and optimal anti-windup PID controller are designed and the performance and robustness of the two control systems are compared by experiment. It was found that the adaptive PID sliding mode control system has better performance and is more robust to system uncertainties than the optimal anti-windup PID control system.
