In the PIC simulation of plasma, the fields are commonly calculated on uniform spatial grids using FDM. But, FDM has a difficulty in modeling a complex shaped model. FEM has a good flexibiblity in treating a complex shape, so that we calculated the field by using FEM not FDM. In this paper, the plasma between plane-to-plane electrodes was simulated using FEM and FDM. Comparing the results of those two methods told us that FEM is also valid as a calculating method in PIC plasma simulation. In order to verify the use of FEM, the discharge of rod-to-plane was simulated. There was not a little distortion of the electric field between the electrodes due to the distribution of space charges.

The electron cyclotron resonance plasma source with a belt-type magnet assembly (BMA) is designed for effective plasma confinements. For characterizing the plasma source, the plasma parameters are measured by Langmuir probe. However, the plasma parameters and the motion of charged particles near the ECR zone are not easy to diagnostics, because of the high plasma density and temperature. Thus, as an alternative method, the electromagnetic simulation of the plasma source has been performed by using three-dimensional particle-in-cell and Monte Carlo collisional (PIC-MCC) simulation codes. For considering the limitation of simulation resources and time, the periodic boundary condition is applied and the coulomb collision is neglected. In this paper, we present the results of 3D PIC simulations of ECR plasmas with BMA and we compare them with the experimental results.

Nonlinear dynamical behaviors in thermionic low pressure discharge are investigated using a particle-in-cell(PIC) simulation. An electrostatic PIC code is developed to model the plasma discharge system including the kinetic effects. The elastic collision, excitation collision, ionization collision, and electron-ion recombination collision are considered in this code. The generated electrons and ions are traced to analyze physical characteristics of the plasma. The simulation results show that the nonlinear oscillation structures are observed for cold plasma in the system and the similar structures are observed for warm plasma with a shift in values of the bifurcation parameter. The detailed oscillation process can be subdivided into three distinct mode; anode-glow, temperature-limited, and double-layer modes.

To develop technologies for the stable operation of electric propulsion systems, the exhaust plume behavior of electric thrusters was studied using PIC-DSMC(particle-in-cell and direct simulation Monte Carlo). For the numerical analysis, the Simple Electron Fluid Model using Boltzmann relation was employed, and the charge and momentum exchanges due to atom-ion collisions were considered. The results of this study agreed with the plasma potentials measured experimentally. Near the thruster exit, active collisions among particles and charge exchanges created slow ions and fast atoms, which were expected to significantly affect the trajectory and velocity of the thruster exhaust plume.

The feasibility of the particle-in-cell (PIC) method is assessed to simulate the non-collective phenomena like non-collective Thomson scattering (TS). The non-collective TS in the laser-plasma interaction, which is related to the single-particle behavior, is simulated through a 2D relativistic PIC code (XOOPIC). For this simulation, a non-collective TS is emitted from a 50-50 DT plasma with electron density and temperature of ne = 3.00 × 1013 cm-3 and Te = 1000 eV, typical for the edge plasma at ITER measured by ETS system, respectively. The wavelength, intensity, and FWHM of the laser applied in the ETS system are λi,0 = 1.064 × 10-4 cm, Ii = 2.24 × 1017 erg=s·㎠, and 12.00 ns, respectively. The electron density and temperature predicted by the PIC simulation, obtained from the TS scattered wave, are ne,TS = 2.91 × 1013 cm-3 and Te,TS = 1089 eV, respectively, which are in accordance with the input values of the simulated plasma. The obtained results indicate that the ambiguities rising due to the contradiction between the PIC statistical collective mechanism caused by the super-particle concept and the non-collective nature of TS are resolved. The ability and validity to use PIC method to study the non-collective regimes are verified.

In this paper, Multistage Adaptive Partial PIC eliminating effectively the multiple access and multipath interference for DS-CDMA based W-CDMA uplink system is designed and its performance is evaluated with computer simulation. By adaptively controlling the slope of the soft limiter with received signals, the efficiency of the soft limiter can be maximized and the better performance is obtained by solving error floor problem using further precise generation of interference signal. As a result, The proposed Multistage Adaptive Partial PIC with simple optimizing method for time-variant channel showed optimum performance at fewer stages. Besides fewer stages, the interference cancellation at the output of the rake receiver considerably reduced system complexity. The Multistage Adaptive Partial PIC with precise generation and efficient cancellation of interference signal can solve error eoor problem, resulted from initial false detection and improve system performance of high data rate system.

In SiH4/H2 discharge for growth process of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H), silane polymers, produced by SiH2 + Sin-1H2n ${\rightarrow}$ SinH2n+2, have no reactivity on the film-growing surface. However, under the SiH2 rich condition, high silane reactive species (HSRS) can be produced by electron collision to silane polymers. HSRS, having relatively strong reactivity on the surface, can react with dangling bond and form Si-H2 networks which have a close correlation with photo-induced degradation of a-Si:H thin film solar cell [1]. To find contributions of suggested several external plasma conditions (pressure, frequency and ratio of mixture gas) [2,3] to suppressing productions of HSRS, some plasma characteristics are studied by numerical methods. For this study, a zero-dimensional global model for SiH4/H2 discharge and a one-dimensional particle-in-cell Monte-Carlo-collision model (PIC-MCC) for pure SiH4 discharge have been developed. Densities of important reactive species of SiH4/H2 discharge are observed by means of the global model, dealing 30 species and 136 reactions, and electron energy probability functions (EEPFs) of pure SiH4 discharge are obtained from the PIC-MCC model, containing 5 charged species and 15 reactions. Using global model, SiH2/SiH3 values were calculated when pressure and driving frequency vary from 0.1 Torr to 10 Torr, from 13.56 MHz to 60 MHz respectively and when the portion of hydrogen changes. Due to the limitation of global model, frequency effects can be explained by PIC-MCC model. Through PIC-MCC model for pure SiH4, EEPFs are obtained in the specific range responsible for forming SiH2 and SiH3: from 8.75 eV to 9.47 eV [4]. Through densities of reactive species and EEPFs, polymerization reactions and production of HSRS are discussed.
We have developed a 2.5-dimensional electromagnetic particle simulation code using the particle-in-cell (PIC) method to investigate electromagnetic phenomena that occur in space plasmas. Our code is based on the leap-frog method and the centered difference method for integration and differentiation of the governing equations. We adopted the relativistic Buneman-Boris method to solve the Lorentz force equation and the Esirkepov method to calculate the current density while maintaining charge conservation. Using the developed code, we performed test simulations for electron two-stream instability and electron temperature anisotropy induced instability with the same initial parameters as used in previously reported studies. The test simulation results are almost identical with those of the previous papers.

In this paper, the new algorithm for blind adaptive decorrelating parallel interference canceller detector in direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) synchronous communication systems is proposed. The goal of this paper is to improve the performance of the blind adaptive decorrelating parallel interference cancellation detector (BAD/PIC). The proposed blind adaptive decorrelating detector is using optimum step-size technique bootstrap algorithm as an initial stage of PIC, which does not require a training sequence. Therefore, this algorithm has a superior view of utilizing bandwidth and reduces the complexity of computation of inversion cross-correlation matrix. The computer simulation results show that the bit error rate performance of the proposed algorithm for the new structure of detector is better than that of the other detectors such as matched filters, the conventional PIC, and the blind adaptive decorrelating PIC detector.
