  • The entertainment system of the aircraft has changed its paradigm in the form of using passenger electronic devices instead of using a fixed monitor. This has simplified the on-board equipment while the risk of safety has increased with the electric charging of portable electronic devices. Unlike personal portable electronic devices that do not have a transmission function, the use of Wi-Fi enabled electronic devices(T-PED) is allowed and the battery is required to be charged in the cabin. In this study, we used the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System to investigate the effects of changes in wireless environment and entertainment service. Based on this, we analyzed the risks of personal electronic devices by sharing event occurrence cases caused by in-flight electronic equipment or passenger portable electronic devices(especially smart phones) from the viewpoint of aircraft safety management. This analysis includes identification of potential hazards and risk assessment, and finally the strategies for risk mitigation for safe use of portable electronic devices are suggested.

  • Use of wireless portable devices, like mobile phones, PDAs and Laptops is explosively increasing. Used in the aircraft, these PEDs can introduce EMI problem to aircraft Com/Nav systems. This paper addresses some foreign research result on interference caused by PEDs which are used onboard and policy of Japan and USA to limit use of PED on board.

  • In this paper, developing management programs for EMI tracking can navigate the site quickly and solve EMI tracking cause and location to use materials such as analysis of air accidents, EMI site location data of 1000 RF companys, radio wave spectrum analysis and audio data. these data are databased and used comparable data. Also, EMI has been prevented by establishing continuous monitoring system through a 24-hour surveillance. Therefore we were able to provide high quality air waves in order to prevent aircraft accidents. In addition, radar control staff of Korea Airports Corporation against passenger aircraft that will prevent the worst aircraft accident have been established based to continue periodic aviation frequency protection and Portable Electronic Devices(PED) on board aircraft to prevent the culture of safety campaign.

  • The evolution and application of RFID technologies have been at the forefront of allowing aviation industries to improve the quality of aircraft maintenance and air cargo handling. However, safety problems in airplane operation are arising from the hazards of frequencies transmitted due to RFID systems. Though the intensities of frequencies back-scattered from the tags are very weak, some malfunctions are anticipated due to induction coupling on aircraft wiring. Therefore, safety assessment such as electromagnetic compatability should be accomplished upon aircraft critical and essential equipments before installations.
