  • A PDP(Plasma Display Panel) Frame is critical part of PDP and also produces couple hundred thousand every month. In the process of mass production, product inspection is very important process. Also to increase the reliance, inspection each part and every final product is asked quite often. Purpose of this paper is to use computer vision system to inspect the PDP parts which is Automated visual process inspection. This paper contains the system design for inspecting defects of hole, tab, stud, rivet of PDP Frame. The system also can inspect various kinds of PDP frames. Quick and accurate 100% inspection of all shapes can improve the manufacturing productivity. Inspection results can be stored in a database and analyzed to find the cause of defects. After applying the system to the industry, the result shows the possibility of fast and accuracy of the inspection.

  • The formation degree of sustain (ITO pattern) decides quality of PDP (plasma display panel). For this reason. it makes efforts in search defects more than 30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Now, the existing inspection process is dependent upon naked eye or SEM equipment in off-line PDP manufacturing process. In this study developed prototype inspection system of PDP ITO glass. This system creates information that detects and sorts kind of defect automatically. Design ed inspection technology adopts line-scan method by slip-beam formation for the minimum of inspection time and image processing algorithm is embodied in detection ability of developed system. Designed algorithm had to make good use of kernel matrix which draws up an approach to geometry. A characteristic of area-shaped defects, as pin hole, substance, protrusion et al, are extracted from blob analysis method. Defects, as open, short, spots, et al, are distinguished by line type inspection algorithm. In experiment results, we could have ensured ability of inspection that can be detected with reliability of up to 95% in about 60 seconds

  • The popularity of flat-panel display(FPD), including plasma display panel(PDP) and liquid-crystal display(LCD), has given rise to the need to streamline their production. In these days, PDP is one of the most popular display devices because of its expansion of manufacturing process and simplicity. Bus electrodes, sustain electrodes, barrier ribs and RGB phosphors are patterned on PDP panel to display an image. Since a minute damage on the pattern can cause a serious defect to display, it is important to inspect the pattern precisely. In this paper, an automatic inspection system of repeated pattern in PDP panel has been introduced to find the defect, such as open, short, dirt, island, and so on. And the inspection system has been operated in the mass production line of PDP.

Thus, in the present study, we attempt to detect 100% of the defects that are larger than $30{\mu}m$. Currently, the inspection method in the PDP manufacturing process is dependent upon the naked eye or a microscope in off-line mode. In this study, a prototype inspection system for PDP ITO patterned glass is developed. The developed system, which is based on a line-scan mechanism, obtains information on the defects and sorts the defects by type automatically. The developed inspection system adopts a multi-vision method using slit-beam formation for minimum inspection time and the detection algorithm is embodied in the detection ability. Characteristic defects such as pin holes, substances, and protrusions are extracted using the blob analysis method. Defects such as open, short, spots and others are distinguished by the line type inspection algorithm. It was experimentally verified that the developed inspection system can detect defects with reliability of up to 95% in about 60 seconds for the 42-inch PDP panel.

  • The display module of PDP consists of a pair of fine electrode patterned panels. For example, in case of 42" PDP, thousands of electrode patterns should be placed on panel, where length, width, and height of each pattern m one meter, 50${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ respectively. And pitch between patterns is around 200${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. Electrode patterns are frequently damaged during the production process, and thus might be broken. These breakage will result in open-circuited electrical characteristic of a pattern and/or open-circuited electrical characteristic between patterns. Therefore, inspection of pattern defects is the inevitable process to improve production yield rate of the panel. In this paper, we first review several types of PDP pattern defects which affects yield-rate of PDP. And, problems of inspecting such pattern defects by a typical inspection method is addressed. Then, a novel inspection method is proposed to overcome the difficulties, where some new components and the algorithm to detect the electrode defects are explored.ored.

  • For reliability evaluation of AC-PDP, one of the most important factor is sealing property. In this paper, the reliability evaluation test method of the commercialized sealing glass frit in AC-PDP was studied. 6 inch AC-PDP panels were tested for evaluation of sealing glass frit by vibration shock test, thermal shock test, non -destructive X-ray inspection, residual stress inspection and residual gas detection. These test methods are proposed as a standard for testing the reliability of sealing glass frit. The main failure mode of sealing glass frit in AC-PDP seems to be the crack propagation from thermal cycling rather than mechanical factor.

  • Various defects are found in PDP manufacturing process. Detecting these defects early and reprocessing them is an important factor that reduces the cost of production. In this paper, the image processing system for the PDP pattern inspection is designed and implemented using the high performance and accuracy CCD line scan camera. For the preprocessing of the high speed line image data, the Image Processing Part (IPP) is designed and implemented using high performance DSP, FIFO and FPGA. Also, the Data Management and System Control Part (DMSCP) are implemented using ARM processor to control many IPP and cameras and to provide remote users with processed data. For evaluating implemented system, experiment environment which has an area camera for reviewing and moving shelf is made. Experimental results showed that proposed system was quite successful.

  • This paper proposes a non-contact color inspection system for plasma display panel (PDP). The red, green, and blue test pattern images are acquired by using the area color CCD camera at the various distance from the PDP. The RGB values are obtained from the region of interest (ROI) which are extracted by applying the image processing to the test pattern image. Finally, the CIE xy and u'v' chromaticity coordinates of the test pattern images according to the distance are acquired from the RGB color coordinates.

  • PDP 섀시는 우리나라의 핵심 제품중의 하나인 POP의 부품으로 특정 공장에서 한 달에 수만 개 이상을 생산하고 있다. 섀시에 포함된 홀, 탭홀, 스터드, 리벳의 유무를 검사하는데 모든 제품에 대한 전수검사가 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 컴퓨터 비젼 기술을 이용한 POP 섀시 자동 시각 검사 시스템을 설계 구현하였고 이를 산업체에서 적용한 결과 신속하고 정확한 100% 검사가 가능함을 보였다.
