An Advisory Expert System for the Designer of Reinforced Concrete Structures (철근 콘크리트 구조물 설계자를 위한 전문가 시스템 개발)

  • Expert systems which represent the appllication of artificial intelligence research are now nearly 20 years old. It is said that the present technology together with ever- increasing computing applicability of Combined Hypertext-Expert System Techniques to the design of reinforced concrete structures. Hypertext systems allow the user to control the system while expert systems alone don't give the user any control over the system. Therefore the combination of these two techniques, offered by KnowledgePro, may bring us closer to real user-expert communication. The system developed in this work offers information on design in general by reorganizing ACI Manual 318-89, detailed stress analysis and cross sectional design of simple PC/RC beams and optimum design of reinforced concrete building frames. The system also includes the author's earlier work on guidance to identify types of cracks in concrete. It is also demonstrated how well and conveniently existing programs can be used by reorganizing the user manuals in the context of hypertext.

  • Recently, the structural system of public residential buildings has been changed from the reinforced concrete (RC) wall system to the (PC) wall and moment resisting systems. Thus, it is important to develop the suitable wall system in accordance with the trend of the modern structural system. This paper presents the basic study on the suitable boundary wall in high-rise buildings. The research also demonstrates the evaluation results on sound characteristics in the aspect of sound insulation. The evaluation of sound insulation capability for the commercialized wall structure was conducted based on literature survey while the measurement of sound insulation capability for the light-weght EPP concrete was performed in according to KS F2808 in laboratory. The main objective of this research is to propose the most suitable dry wall system as a sound insulation structure through the comparison and analysis of frequency characteristics and weight-acoustic attenuation.

  • A novel approach to modeling concrete behavior at the stage of its maturing is presented in this paper. This approach assumes that at any point in the structure, concrete is composed of a set of layers that are activated in time layer by layer, based on amount of released heat that is produced during process of the concrete's maturing. This allows one to assume that each newly created layer has nominal stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strengths. Hence introduction of explicit stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strength dependencies on time, or equivalent time state parameter, is not needed. Analysis of plain concrete (PC) and reinforced concrete (RC) structures, especially massive ones, subjected to any kind of straining in their early stage of existence, mostly due to external loads but especially by thermal loading and shrinkage, is the goal of the approach. In this article a simple elasto-plastic softening model with creep is used for each layer and a general layered model behavior is illustrated on one-dimensional (1D) examples.

  • Recently, as the personal computers are supplied rapidly, they formed the nucleus of the computer system. But, because of the easiness that anyone uses them to go near easily, it is the fact that the security of personal computer is weakness. So, in the paper, 1 propose the technical method that minimizes the loss and leakage of important data. This paper implemented a crypto system for security of data file on personal computer and assistance storage medium. The way of encryption/decryption is applied by complexity method which mixed Diffie-Hellman key exchange protocol, a typical RC4(Rivest Cipher version 4) algorithm of stream cipher and a typical MD5(Message Digest version 5) of Hash Function. For valuation implemented crypto system, three criteria is presented, which are crypto complexity, processing time and pattern matching. And according to analysis the three criteria the crypto system is verified the security, efficiency and usefulness. The crypto system is programmed with Visual C++ language of Microsoft. And so, as this is software system, we shall have a technical security system at a minimum cost for all personal computer.

  • Large Concrete Panel Structures behave quite differently from frame or monolithic shear wall structures because of the weakness of Joint in stiffness and strength. The joint experiences large deformation such as shear-slip in vertical and horizontal joint and rocking and crushing in horizontal joint because of localized stress concentration, but the wall panels behave elastically under cyclic loads. In order to describe the nonlinear behavior of the joint in the analysis of PC structures, different analysis technique from that of RC structures is needed. In this paper, for analysis of large concrete panel subassemblage subjected to cyclic loads, the wall panels are idealized by elastic finite elements, and the joints by nonlinear spring elements with various load-deflection relationship. The analytical results are compared with the experimental results on the strength, stiffness, energy dissipation and lateral drift, and the effectiveness of this computer analysis modelling technique is checked.

Strength model for square concrete columns confined by external CFRP sheets

  • An experimental study has been carried out on square plain concrete (PC) and reinforced concrete (RC) columns strengthened with carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets. A total of 78 specimens were loaded to failure in axial compression and investigated in both axial and transverse directions. Slenderness of the columns, number of wrap layers and concrete strength were the test parameters. Compressive stress, axial and hoop strains were recorded to evaluate the stress-strain relationship, ultimate strength and ductility of the specimens. Results clearly demonstrate that composite wrapping can enhance the structural performance of square columns in terms of both maximum strength and ductility. On the basis of the effective lateral confining pressure of composite jacket and the effective FRP strain coefficient, new peak stress equations were proposed to predict the axial strength and corresponding strain of FRP-confined square concrete columns. This model incorporates the effect of the effective circumferential FRP failure strain and the effect of the effective lateral confining pressure. The results show that the predictions of the model agree well with the test data.

  • This study aimes at developing an analysis model for axisymmetric RC structures on an elastic foundation and also, at checking its practical adaptability through some case studies. The computer program developed in this study is general-purpose one, applicable not only to 8-noded isoparametric elements, but also to 3, 4, 6 and g-noded element cases. And for the economies of input data processing works, automatic system for data prepa- ration including division of elements is included in the computer program. Although these are not exemplified in the case studies, the program developed in this study can be easily applicable without any modification to axisymmetric structures with roof and PC structures.

  • Reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete structures consist of different materials, namely concrete, reinforcing steel and/or prestressing steel. Reinforcing and prestressing steels can be considered homogeneous materials, and their properties are generally well defined. Howefer, concrete is a heterogeous materials, and it is difficult to define its properties accurately. Both concrete and steel exhibit various nonlinear materials properties. The stress-strain relationship of concrete is not only nonlinear, but it differs in compression and tension. And, tensile cracking is one of the most importnat factors which contribute to the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete structrures. In this strudy, the various stress-strain relationships of concrete and reinforcing steel in nonlinear analysis of RC and PC structures are examined.

  • As a part of rapid construction technology of bridge pier caps, controversial issues for design and construction of precast pier caps were discussed. Three kinds of approaches of rapid bridge pier cap construction were proposed and discussed. Especially for an approach of precast shell type structures, experimental studies were performed to evaluate structural performance and compared with conventionally constructed reinforced concrete pier cap.

  • Cracks are caused by drying shrinkage between the upper part of the underground parking lot and the apartment wall. As a result of the investigation, the distance between the apartment and the apartment is more than 45m, and the top slab of the underground parking lot is usually flat when there is not with steps. Therefore, the crack occurs more when the underground parking lot is a PC slab than a RC slab. In this study, the reduction of cracks was conducted by extending the slab, expanding the beam size, increasing the wall thickness, and installing a delay joint on slab. In each case, a finite element analysis was performed to examine the crack reduction method.
