  • Data sorting is one of important pre-process to utilize huge data in modern society, but sorting spends a lot of time by sorting itself. In this paper, we presented hybrid sorting algorithm that splits array to sort concurrently in CPU and GPU. To do this, we decided most effective range of array based on hardware performance, then accomplished reducing whole sorting time by concurrent sorting on CPU and GPU. As shown in results of experiment, hybrid sorting improved about eight percent of sorting time in comparison with the sorting time using only GPU.

  • As the height of the modular buildings increases, their stability becomes more and more dependent on the core. All traditional construction methods in structural concrete and steel can be utilized for cores in modular buildings but a core system with dry connection is more desirable to complete a greater degree of factory finish and faster erection of modular buildings. In order to do that, the hybrid PC(precast concrete) panel, which has a pair of C-shaped steel beams combined at the top and bottom of a concrete wall, was developed, In this study the cyclic lateral loading test on the hybrid PC panel is carried out and the panel configurations are examined to enhance the structural performance in comparison with the RC wall. Experimental results show that the strength of hybrid PC panel is about 70% of thar ot RC wall and the anchorage of vertical reinforcing bar welded to C-shaped steel beam needs to be improved.

  • Multi-core processors are becoming increasingly popular. As they are widely adopted in embedded systems as well as desktop PC's, many multimedia applications are being parallelized on multi-core platforms. However, it is difficult to parallelize applications with inherent data dependencies such as encryption algorithms for multimedia data. In order to overcome this limit, we propose a technique to overlap computation and communication using an otherwise idle core in this paper. In particular, we interpret the problem of multimedia computation and communication as a pipeline design problem at the application program level, and derive an optimal number of stages in the pipeline.

  • A piston core (MR06-04 PC23A) collected from the northern continental slope in the central Bering Sea has recorded the high-resolution millennial-scale variation of calcium carbonate ($CaCO3$) content during the last 65 kyr. An estimation of the age of the core sediments was carried out by using the lithologic correlation of the deglacial laminated layers with a neighboring core (HLY02023JPC), complementing the last appearance datum of both Lychnocanoma nipponica sakaii (54 kyr) and Amphimelissa setosa (85 kyr). The probable age of core MR06-04 PC23A was approximately younger than 65 kyr. Two distinct events of a significant increase of $CaCO3$ in the deglacial laminated sediments clearly correspond to MWP1A and MWP1B in the Bering Sea (Gorbarenko et al. 2005) and to T1ANP and T1BNP in the North Pacific (Gorbarenko 1996). These pronounced peaks of $CaCO3$ contents result from the elevated carbonate production in the surface water and the subsequent weakened dilution due to terrestrial input, along with an enhanced oxygen minimum zone. The $CaCO3$ contents are low (${\sim}2%$) during the last glacial period mainly because of a low carbonate production caused by an expanded sea-ice cover and an increased dilution by terrigenous particles due to their closer distance to the continent during the sea-level low stand. The occurrence of seven distinct $CaCO3$ peaks in core MR06-04 PC23A is remarkable during MIS 3 and MIS 4, and they most likely correlate to the short-term millennial Dansgaard-Oeschger events.

  • This paper evaluates the serviceability of vibration that is induced by people's walking and running when the long span hollow core slab is used. The dynamic characteristics like a natural frequency and a ramping ratio are found by impact loading test on the mock-up structures. Also, the human induced loading test output is evaluated by the various serviceability criteria. As the various serviceability criteria satisfy with this result, the vibration problem of relevant slab caused by people's behavior does not matter.

  • The Core-Shift is often generated on injection mold which have thin and long core. And Core-Shift brings out problems for thickness variation and product ejecting process. In this study, analysis of Core-Shift was performed according to change of materials of core(steel P-20, Be-Cu) and various polymers(PP, PC) by using MoldFolw MPI 6.1 which is commercial injection molding analysis program. As the results of analysis, the magnitude of Core-Shift was increased as being use polymer had lower fluidity and lower rigidity core. In the future, we will study the relationship between amount of Core-Shift and ejecting force.

  • This paper describes a 128-channel hardware simulator that is useful for verification and testing of digital circuits. It performs logic analyzer function and signal generator function at the same time. The core module, which implements one channel of the simulator, operates as a controller with independent memory and internal mode. Therefore, we can easily extend the number of channels with addition of core module. Moreover, since the simulator was implemented as a PC based system, one can construct a low-cost system and can configure convenient GUI(Graphic User Interface) environment. The simulator implemented using FPGA operates at 50Mhz and consumes 55W power as average.

  • As the growing popularity of smartphones, mobile web browsing has become one of the most important and popular applications in mobile devices. Furthermore, it is clear that the demand for PC-like full browser performance on mobile devices is increasing greatly. WebKit is an open source web browser engine adopted by Google Android. This paper proposed a technique of increasing the performance of WebKit by paralleling its libraries. This method was applied to JPEG library and the performance evaluation was conducted in PC environment. The results was used to estimate the performance prediction on multi-core mobile embedded architecture and to show the feasibility of the proposed method to estimate the performance gain on heterogeneous multi-core embedded architecture.

  • In this paper, we study the performance of recently popular multi-core systems in mobiles. Previous research on the multi-core performance usually focused on the desktop PC. However, there is enough scope to further analyze heterogeneous multi-core systems. Therefore, by extending homogeneous multi-core systems, we analyze the heterogeneous multi-core systems using Size Interval Task Allocation (SITA) for job allocation, and Shortest Remaining Processing Time (SRPT) scheduling, for each individual core. We propose a new computational method regarding the cutoff point, which is crucial in analyzing SITA, by calculating the sojourn time. This facilitate easy and accurate calculation of the sojourn time. We further confirm our analysis through the ESESC simulator that provides actual measurements.

  • This paper deals with the experimental analysis of the flexural behaviour of encased composite beams with hollow core slabs and channels. The shear force between steel beams and hollow core slabs are transferred by channels. Three full-scale specimens were constructed and tested with different steel beam heights, which were compared with those of previous studies. Based on observation of the experiments, the encased composite beams exhibited full shear connection behaviour without any other shear connectors due to their inherent mechanical and chemical bond stress. Experimental results show a behaviour similar to steel-concrete composite beams with classical connectors: elastic and yield domains, great ductility, flexural failure mode (plastic hinge), low relative movement at steel-concrete interface and all specimens failed in a very ductile manner. Consequently, this study enables the validation of the proposed connection device under static loading and shows that it meets modern structural requirements.
