몇 가지 PBTs (Persistent, Bioaccumulative, Toxic Chemicals)가 생태계 곤충에 미치는 영향

  • Pollutants that are persistent, bioaccurnulative, and toxic have been linked to numerous adverse effects in human and animals, PBTs include heavy metals, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), dioxins, polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) in addition to pesticides. This study focuses on toxic effects of the PBTs except pesticides on insects. Eight PBTs were selected from subgroups: three heavy metals (Pb, Hg, and Cd), two PCB mixtures (Aroclor mixtures 1 and 2), 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin, two monophenols (4-octylphenol and 4-nonylphenol), and tetrabutyltin, Beet armyworm, Spodoptera exigua, was used as test target insect species. Three physiological markers (metamorphosis, immune reaction, and follicle patency) were assessed in each exposure to different doses of the PCBs. Heat-shock proteins as molecular markers were also analyzed in response to the PCBs. All tested PBTs were toxic to metamorphosis from larvae to pupae when they were applied with diet. Two PCB mixtures were the most toxic compounds in this assay by giving significant toxicity at 0.005 ppm, while others had from 10 to 1000 ppm. Dioxin (0.1 ppb), tetrabutyltin (0.1 ppb), Pb (10 ppb), and Hg (0,01 ppb) were potent to inhibit immune reactions analyzed by inducing phenoloxidase activity and blocked phospholipase $A_2$ enzyme, Tetrabutyltin and dioxin significantly induced follicle cell patency, but their effects were lower than that of endogenous juvenile hormone, Dioxin, Pb, Hg, and Cd could induce the expression of heat shock proteins that were detected by immunoblotting against human HSP70 monoclonal antibody. HSP78 and HSP80 were upregulated in response to the PBTs. This expression was detected from the fat body and epidermis at as fast as 4h after injection. All these results clearly suggest that PBTs give significant ecotoxicity to insects that are valuable organisms in our environment.

Synthesis and Properties of Novel Flame Retardant Poly(butylene terephthalate)

  • The phosphorus comonomer [(6-oxido-6H-dibenz<1,2>oxaphosphorin-6-yl)methyl]-methyl butane-dioate (DOP-MBDA) was synthesized through the addition reaction of dimethyl itaconate (DMI) with 9,10-dihydro­9-oxa-10-phosphaphenan threne-10-oxide (DOP). A series of novel flame retardant poly(butylene terephthalate)s (PBTs) containing different amounts of phosphorus were prepared using DOP-MBDA as a comonomer. These novel polymers were characterized by $^{1}H-NMR$, IR, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The novel phosphorus­containing poly(butylene terephthalate)s, referred to as FR-PBTs, exhibited interesting thermal and mechanical behavior, as well as superior flame retardancy. These properties are attributed to the effect of incorporating the rigid structure of DOP-MBDA and the pendant phosphorus group into the poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) homopolymer. The UL 94-V2 rating could be achieved with this novel flame retardant PBT, which has a phosphorus content as low as $0.5 wt\%$, and the FR-PBTs emitted less fumes and toxic gases than the PBT homopolymer.

Octachlorostyrenes의 환경생물에 대한 급성독성 연구 (Acute Toxicity Studies of Octachlorostyrenes for Environment Organisms)

  • 옥타클로르스티렌은 환경중에서 잔류성이 높고 분해되지 않아 고농도로 축적될 뿐만아니라독성이 매우 높은물질군을 일컫는 PBTs(Persistent, Bioaccumulative and Toxic Substances) 화합물로서 분류된다. 본 연구에서는 PBTs 화합물군에 속하는 옥타클로르스티렌과 그 이성체를 대상으로 환경위해성평가의 기초자료를 만들기 위하여 환경생물인 조류, 물벼룩 및 어류 등 먹이연쇄상의 생물종에 대해 급성독성시험을 통해 반수영향농도($EC_{50}$, Effective Concentration), 반수치사농도($LC_{50}$, Lethal Concentration), 최대무영향농도(NOEC, No Observed Effect Concentration) 또는 최소영향농도(LOEC, Lowest Observed Effect Concentration)등을 산출하였다. 그 결과 옥타클로르스티렌 및 2-, 3-chlorostrene의 조류에 대한 성장저해 무영향농도는 $0.5\;mg\;L^{-1}$로 산출되었고, 4-chlorostyrene의 조류에 대한 성장저해 무영향농도는 $0.13\;mg\;L^{-1}$로 산출되었다. 담수무척추동물인 물벼룩에 대한 급성유영저해시험결과 옥타클로르스티렌 및 2-, 3-chlorostrene의 무영향농도는 $5\;mg\;L^{-1}$로 산출되었고,4-chlorostrene의 $EC_{50}$ 값은 $2.128\;mg\;L^{-1}$로 산출되었다. 또한 담수어류인 송사리를 대상으로 실시한 급성어독성시험결과, 옥타클로르스티렌의 무영향농도는 $80\;mg\;L^{-1}$, 2-, 3-chlorostyrene의 무영향농도는 $60\;mg\;L^{-1}$로 산출되었고 4-chlorostyrene은 $LC_{50}$값은 $39.0\;mg\;L^{-1}$(48 시간), $22.6\;mg\;L^{-1}$(96 시간)로 산출되었다.

잔류성.생물축적성 물질 피해저감을 위한 미세플라스틱(Microplastic) 관리방안 (Microplastic Management for Preventing Risk of Persistent/Bioaccumulative Substance)

  • 해양환경의 플라스틱은 풍화작용에 의해 매우 작은 크기로 부서지는데, 이를 미세플라스틱이라고 한다. 해수에 오염된 잔류성이 크거나 생물축적성이 있는 유기물질은 미세플라스틱에 잘 흡착되며, 이들 물질이 흡착된 미세플라스틱을 해양생물이 섭취하면 먹이사슬을 통해 점차 생물축적된다. 이는 결국 해양생태계의 건강성을 파괴하고 사람을 포함한 상위포식자에게 피해를 끼친다. 해양 오염물질의 흡착제로서의 역할뿐 아니라, 미세플라스틱 그 자체에서 내분비계 교란물질이 용출되어 해양생물에 피해를 입히기도 한다. 우리나라는 잔류성이나 생물축적성이 큰 물질에 대해서는 화학물질 측면에서 규제하고 있으나, 이는 육상에서의 관리에 국한되어 있다. 만약 이들 물질이 해양생태계로 유입되면, 결국 미세플라스틱 흡착 여부에 의해 그 피해가 증가하게 된다. 이에 해양생태계 내에서의 잔류성 생물축적성 물질의 피해를 저감하기 위해서는 우선 미세플라스틱의 관리가 엄격해야 할 것이다. 이에 미세플라스틱 자체를 유해물질로 지정하여 엄격히 관리하거나, 생분해성 플라스틱 이용 확대, 재활용 및 재사용 촉구, clean-up 프로그램의 확대 등을 통해 해양생태계 내로의 플라스틱 유입을 저감하는 노력이 요구된다.

다매체 환경 모델 MUSEM을 이용한 유해화학물질의 환경거동예측 모델링 (Modeling for the fate of Organic Chemicals in a Multi-media Environment Using MUSEM)

  • 생태계로 유입되는 POPs, EDCs, PBTs 등과 같은 화학물질에 의한 오염은 점점 복잡다양화 되고 있으며, 사람의 건강이나 생태계에 돌이킬 수 없는 피해를 가져올 우려 또한 증가되고 있다. 그러나 위해성 평가의 중요한 과정중 하나인 화학물질의 노출량 산정 부분에 대한 적정한 평가가 이루어지지 않는 경우가 많았다. 본 연구에서는 환경매체 중 화학물질량 산정에 있어 보다 효율적인 모델링 수행을 위하여, 화학물질의 물성 데이터베이스 및 지역 개황 데이터베이스 등과 프로그램으로 연계되어 있으며, 동시에 여러 대상물질이 시뮬레이션 가능한 다매체환경모델 MUSEM(Multi-media Simple box-systems Environmental Model)을 이용하여 62종의 화학물질에 대하여 일본 47개 지역의 환경매체 중 농도예측 및 동경지역에 대한 민감도 분석을 통하여 모델의 적용성을 검토하였다. 이러한 62종의 물질에 대한 매체별 잔류비(%)는 수역에 고비율로 분포하는 물질이 많은 것으로 예측되었다. 옥탄올-물 분배계수에 따른 환경매체중의 화학물질 농도변화는 도시산업용지의 토양 및 담수의 저질에서 상대적으로 크게 나타났으며, 대기와 담수에서는 상대적으로 작게 나타났다. 분해계수에 의한 환경매체중의 화학물질 농도변화는 육수역 물환경 및 도시산업용지의 토양, 육수역의 저질에서의 변화폭이 비슷하게 나타났으며 대기의 경우는 상대적으로 작게 나타났다.

다양한 Passivation 물질에 따른 IGZO TFT Stability 개선 방법 (IGZO TFT Stability Improvement Based on Various Passivation Materials)

  • Thin film transistors (TFTs) with large-area, high mobility, and high reliability are important factors for next-generation displays. In particular, thin transistors based on IGZO oxide semiconductors are being actively researched for this application. In this study, several methods for improving the reliability of a-IGZO TFTs by applying various materials on a passivation layer are investigated. In the literature, inorganic SiO2, TiO2, Al2O3, ZTSO, and organic CYTOP have been used for passivation. In the case of Al2O3, excellent stability is exhibited compared to the non-passivation TFT under the conditions of negative bias illumination stress (NBIS) for 3 wavelengths (R, G, B). When CYTOP passivation, SiO2 passivation, and non-passivation devices were compared under the same positive bias temperature stress (PBTS), the Vth shifts were 2.8 V, 3.3 V, and 4.5 V, respectively. The Vth shifts of TiO2 passivation and non-passivation devices under the same NBTS were -2.2 V and -3.8 V, respectively. It is expected that the presented results will form the basis for further research to improve the reliability of a-IGZO TFT.

환경유래 식품오염물질의 우선순위 선정 기법 (Food-CRS-Korea)의 개발과 적용 (Development of Korean Food-Chemical Ranking and Scoring System (Food-CRS-Korea) and Its Application to Prioritizing Food Toxic Chemicals Associated with Environmental Pollutants)

  • The aims of this study were to develop the suitable "system software" in chemical ranking and scoring (CRS) for the food hazardous chemicals associated with environmental emission and to suggest the priority lists of food contamination by environmental-origined pollutants. Study materials were selected with reference to the priority pollutants list for environment and food management from domestic and foreign research and the number of study materials is 103 pollutants (18 heavy metals, 10 PBTs, 10 EDs, and 65 organic compounds). The Food-CRS-Korea system consisted of the environmental fate model via multimedia, transfer environment to food model, and health risk assessment by contaminated food intake. We have established that health risks of excess cancer risks, hazard quotients (HQs) by chronic toxicity and HQs by reproductive toxicity convert to score, respectively. The creditable scoring system was designed to consider uncertainty of quantitative risk assessment based on VOI (Value-Of-Information). The predictability of the Food-CRS-Korea model was evaluated by comparing the presumable values and the measured ones of the environmental media and foodstuffs. The priority lists based on emissions with background-level-correction are 15 pollutants such as arsenic, cadmium, and etc. The priority lists based on environmental monitoring date are 17 pollutants including DEHP, TCDD, and so on. Consequently, we suggested the priority lists of 13 pollutants by considering the several emission and exposure scenarios. According to the Food-CRS-Korea system, arsenics, cadmium, chromes, DEHP, leads, and nickels have high health risk rates and reliable grades.
