The purpose of this study was to examine how college students use Facebook and the ways in which they feel of commitment while using Facebook. The Big Five Personality Model has been considerably used in the psychology fields, and the researchers have started to explore the role of characteristic factors in influencing an individual's use of social media, such as Facebook which has become one of the most popular social networking site in the world. Therefore, the current study aims to specify the links between The Big Five Personality Model and usage patterns as well as commitment of Facebook. Two hundreds thirty five college students participated in a survey and the results are as follows: First, participants who were high in extraversion and agreeableness were more likely to do information sharing activities such as sharing posts to their friends, writing comments on the other's posts. In addition, participants who were high in openness to experience, conscientiousness, and neuroticism were more likely to do information producing activities including offering events, group, or public pages to meet people both on and offline. Second, in terms of the relationship between personality traits and commitment to the Facebook, the study found that extraversion and neuroticism were related to users' commitment to Facebook. These findings are consistent with the existing literature regarding extraversion and neuroticism were representative personality factors when it comes to commitment of media. Specifically, the study found that those who were high in neuroticism were more likely to produce information such as posting photos repeatedly or tagging their friends on posts, and also more likely to feel commitment on Facebook. These findings confirm that personality is a highly relevant factor in determining individual's behavior and the degree of commitment on Facebook. Based on these findings implications and limitations of the study are discussed.
As Internet advances, websites with simpel HTML pages are changing to complex web application systems with enormous contents and various services. With this trend, it is noted that situations where Web accessibility of the old and the handicapped is inhibited are growing. To solve this problem, The Disability Discrimination Act has been enacted since April 2013. This act triggers massive website reorganization efforts. However, in order for the huge and sophisticated web applications and web sites to ensure a web accessibility, a framework is required to throughout the web site development. Based on thorough review of website development methodologies, web accessibility compliance standards, and various web accessibility issues related to website characteristics, this study proposes a practice oriented "Web Accessibility Compliance Framework". The current study also examines the usefulness and value of this framework by applying it to the internet banking development project of W bank and receiving a certificate for high quality website complying web accessibility standards.

The purpose of this study was to investigate as to how much of changes has occurred in the newly revised Home Economics Textbooks required by the 7th Curriculum as compared to those by the former 6th Curriculum. and to seek future policy direction which can be improved even better. if any. for further revision. To implement this proposal, this study employed 8 different textbooks published among 12 textbooks developed for the 7th Curriculum for data base. The results of this study were as follows: It was covered such areas of change and develope in the composition of category and system in the Home Economics Textbooks required by the 7th Curriculum as compared to those by the former 6th Curriculum. The whole system of textbook was composed of cover page, the inside of a book cover. the title page, introduction. table of contents. appendices. It was same in the total pages with the exception of table of contents. appendices. the inside of a book cover and it was much alike in contents of introduction. In the aspect of the unit system of the textbooks. their whole flows were similar to each other. but the writers' intention and the stress on the focal points had appeared well in topic introduction and texts for the units of the textbooks. In addition. it can be said desirable that much more middle school teachers took a participation in the development of textbooks as textbook writers than before. In the organizational aspect of the sub-area organization of textbooks in the 7th Curriculum, it was not dispersed in grade 1, 2, and 3, but was centralized in a certain grade to increase its efficiency. The number of activity and experiment & practice that students could try to do actually were drastically increased compared to the 6th Curriculum. but it showed a wide difference between textbooks.

As the information of web dramatically increase, the existing web reveals more and more limitations in information search because web pages are designed only for human consumption by mixing content with presentation. In order to improve this situation, the Semantic Web comes on the stage by W3C. Semantic web is based on ontology that defines relationships between resources and it is enough to bring a significant advancement in web search. But to do this, the Semantic Web must provide a novel search and visualization methods which can make users instantly and intuitively understand why and how the results are retrieved because ontology has formal explicit descriptions of meaning. In this paper, we propose a semantic association-based search methodology that consists of how to find relevant information for a given user's query in the ontology, that is, a semantic network of resources and properties and how to provide proper visualization and navigation methods on the results. From this work, users can search the semantically associated resources for their query and also navigate such associations between resources.
Collaborative filtering (CF), one of the most successful recommendation techniques, has been used in a number of different applications such as recommending web pages, movies, music, articles and products. One of the critical issues in CF is why recommendation performances are different depending on application domains. However, prior literatures have focused on only data characteristics to explain the origin of the difference. Scant attentions have been paid to provide systematic explanation on the issue. To fill this research gap, this study attempts to systematically explain why recommendation performances are different using structural indexes of social network. For this purpose, we developed hypotheses regarding the relationships between structural indexes of social network and recommendation performance of collaboration filtering, and empirically tested them. Results of this study showed that density and inconclusiveness positively affected recommendation performance while clustering coefficient negatively affected it. This study can be used as stepping stone for understanding collaborative filtering recommendation performance. Furthermore, it might be helpful for managers to decide whether they adopt recommendation systems.
The user interfaces of electronic-book (e-book) readers in the e-book market are highly diverse, and this has led to major usability issues. In this paper, we analyze user preferences in terms of feature-setting options and the use of touchscreen actions in the six most commonly used e-book readers for smartphnoes. We identify alternatives for these features, which can enhance the usability of e-book readers, based on these user preferences. The survey results for the feature-setting options show that it is desirable to support at least eight background colors, as well as the ability to specify the color of the background icons. Adjusting the screen brightness using a setting bar with the support of an auto-brightness option is desirable, as in using +/- buttons to adjust the font size, as well as approximately 10 font faces. We find that it is desirable to support fade, slide, scroll and curl page-turing options, in addition to a simple non-animated page-turning effect, and that page movement should be accomplished using a scroll bar with the support of the page movement features by entering a page number, and by using the table of contents as well as bookmarks. The survey results on the use of touchscreen options indicated that it is useful to be able to configure the screen layout of an e-book reader by dividing it into three areas: left, right, and center. And then, when users briefly touch the left and right areas, it is ideal to move to the previous and subsequent pages, respectively; and when they briefly touch the center region, it is desirable to display a touch feature menu. We believe that the results of this study may provide guidance in the design of user interfaces for e-book readers.
Conventional ORDBMS vendors provide extension mechanisms for adding user-defined types and functions to their own DBMSs. Here, the extension mechanisms are implemented using a high-level interface. We call this technique loose-coupling. The advantage of loose-coupling is that it is easy to implement. However, it is not preferable for implementing new data types and operations in large databases when high Performance is required. In this paper, we propose to use the notion of tight-coupling to satisfy this requirement. In tight-coupling, new data types and operations are integrated into the core of the DBMS engine. Thus, they are supported in a consistent manner with high performance. This tight-coupling architecture is being used to incorporate information retrieval(IR) features and spatial database features into the Odysseus/IR ORDBMS that has been under development at KAIST/AITrc. In this paper, we introduce Odysseus/IR and explain its tightly-coupled IR features (U.S. patented). We then demonstrate a web search engine that is capable of managing 20 million web pages in a non-parallel configuration using Odysseus/IR.
An emergency manual is designed to minimize the extent and effect of lives and assets; it is not designed to prevent an accident. There have been continuous arguments in terms of manual effectiveness regardless of the fact that much effort and great cost have been invested in emergency planning and operations. The problems are that there are a number of different emergency manuals, that these manuals are hard to understand and rarely used due to their complexity, that they provide little direction toward the taking of action, and that coordination is difficult between those involved; all of these problems are related to two different pieces of legislations that define emergency manuals in different ways in terms of the contents required. The study has tried to respond to these arguments by exploring relevant legislation to identify emergency manuals that can be used to respond to rail incidents/accidents, for which previous responses have seemed inefficient. Further, some parts of the emergency manual contents are found to overlap, including the ways of differentiating incident responses, personnel roles and responsibilities by types of accident, and threat levels, all of which has resulted in unnecessary pages of the manuals. In preparing and operating such manuals, this study recommends that one piece of legislation that directly affects rail undertakings must be applied in an effort to increase effectiveness.
By comparing and analyzing the September 11 terror attack news reports on the daily papers in the U.S., Korea, and China, this research found that national ideology and international relationship concerned have affected news report frames about international dispute matters. Both quantitative and qualitative researches identify differences in news framing. For example, after the September 11 terror attack, the most pages of the USs The New York Times and Korean Chosunilbo were covered with related articles(382 and 192 reports, respectively), whereas Chinese Inminilbo cur down to only 32 reports about the issue. Also in content, both The New York Times and Chosunilbo viewed the September 11 terror attack as evil acts which threatened world peace and justified military action against Afghanistan as inevitable revenge and justice for such evil acts, in the point of the USs official view. However, Inminilbo gave out news only based on facts in a neutral viewpoint. Moreover, regarding American military intervention, the Chinese newspapers held very different news frame from the other two by describing considerable sacrifice and pain of innocent people of Afghanistan seriously. For the story composition, daily newspapers in all three countries took the same way to report focusing on specific events with episodes.

Elementary science textbooks are the major instructional materials which contain sceientific objectives to be acquired by students. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development system, to evaluate the inquiry activity in current elementary science testbooks, and to make suggestions for the improvement of them. The questionnaires were administered to 116 subjects that participated in development of the 5th elementary science textbooks, and 86 of the subjects responded. Based on the data gathered and analyzed in this study, the major findings are as follows. First, regarding the analysis and evaluation of elementary science textbooks. 1. The instructional objectives in elementary science textbooks are analyzed. The proportions of comprehension objectives is 38%, scientific inquiry process objectives 21%, experimental skills objectives 7%, scientific attitudes and interests objectives 4%. 2. The science concepts in elementary science textbooks of the 3rd grade required the preconcrete operational level(82%) and of the 6rd grade required the postconcrete operational level (73%) by J. Piaget 3. The inquiry activities in elementary science textbooks are emphasizing gathering and organizing results and evaluation, and hypothesizing and designing an experiment Inquiry index of the elementary science textbooks is 76. This is significantly higher than 35${\sim}$50 of America and U.K.. 4. The number of questions per class hour is mostly three, and most of them require the students to explain phenomena in nature or in experiment Second, regarding the development system of elementary science textbooks. 1. The budget for and the period of the development of elementary science textbook should be expanded. 2. For the improvement of elementary science textbooks, more abundant resources and time should be used for the basic study and the field trial of textbooks. 3. The elementary science textbook must include the affective objectives as well as the scientific knowledges and scientific inquiry skills. 4. It is not desirable to assign equal number of pages to the content of physics, chemistry, biology, and earth science. 5. Closer cooperation system is needed among the ministry of education, development research center and the field trial schools.
