This study was conducted to test the efficacy of Ulva pertusa kjellman as immunomodulators under lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge in broilers by investigating their effects on serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) like ability, immunoglobulin concentration, and splenic cytokine mRNA expression. A total of ninety six1-d-old male broiler chicks (Ross 308) were divided into 4 treatment groups with 8 replicates of 3 birds in each group. NC (negative control, no immune substances), PC (positive control, ${\beta}$-glucan 25 ppm), Ulva P (Ulva pertusa kjellman Powder 3%), and Ulva E (Extract form Ulva pertusa kjellman 0.3%) were added in feed with respective substance. Heparinized venous blood and spleens were collected from five birds per dietary treatment at 5 wk of age. The SOD like activities in Ulva P and Ulva E were significantly increased in comparison with other groups (P<0.05). The immunoglobulin M content was lower in the Ulva E than other groups (P<0.05). Expression patterns of splenic cytokine mRNA in the IL-$1{\beeta}$, IL-2 and IL-6 were similar. Expression rate of IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-2 and IL-6 in Ulva pertusa kjellman (Ulva P, Ulva E) were decreased (P<0.05) in comparison to other groups. Expression rate of IL-$1{\beta}$, IL-2 and IL-6 were significantly lower in groups treated with Ulva E than Ulva P. In conclusion, dietary supplementation of Ulva pertusa kjellman improved SOD like activity and affect immune system by inhibiting inflammatory response in broiler chicks. In addition, it is more effective to use Ulva pertusa kjellman extract than powder for immunomodulatory function. These results suggest the possibility that Ulva pertusa kjellman could be used as the immunomodulator for inflammatory response in broiler chicks.
An experiment was conducted to assess the interaction between genotypes and dietary lysine content in commercial broiler chicks by measuring growth, and response to sheep red blood cells (SRBC) and Escherichia coli (E.coli) inoculation. Female chicks from four genotypes (A=Anak 2000; B=Hubbard; C=Cobb and D=Synthetic broiler) were fed four levels of lysine in diet from d old till the end of experiment. The lysine content of the diet was 9.61, 10.51, 11.41 and 12.31 g/kg. Body weights at 0, 14, 28 and 42 d of age and pen-wise feed intake till 14, 28 and 42 d of age were recorded. Production of antibody against SRBC and resistance to E.coli were measured at 5 d of post inoculation (PI) at 43 d of age. Also, response to phytohemaglutinin-P (PHA-P) was measured at 12 and 24 h of PI at 48 d of age. Genotype by dietary lysine interaction was significant for body weights at 14 and 28 d of age, but not at 42 d of age. Genotype by dietary lysine interaction was not significant for feed efficiency, for antibody titers against SRBC, and for air sac lesion score, relative bodyweight change, and relative weights of bursa and spleen in response to E.coli inoculation. However, a significant interaction was observed between the levels of lysine and dosage of SRBC for antibody titers. There was significant genotype by dietary lysine interaction for cutaneous basophilic hypersensitivity (CBH) response to PHA-P at 12 and 24 h of PI. It may be concluded that to obtain optimum body weight and immunity in commercial broilers the dietary lysine requirement may be recommended specific to the genotype.

In this paper, we present E-band bond-wire modeling and a matching network to compensate for the effect of the bond-wire. The impedance of the bond-wires is extracted using three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation. The matching network was designed using a simple structure. The implemented matching network was verified with a commercial 71~81 GHz LNA IC and an interconnection based on the WR-12 waveguide. The matching network increases the transmission coefficient of the system by up to 4.5 dB, power gain by up to 3.12 dB, $P_{1dB}$ by up to 2.2 dB, and improves the gain flatness by ${\pm}1.07dB$.
The global minimum structures of the benzene-water, Bz-$H_2O$ and benzene-water cation complex, [Bz-$H_2O]^+$ have been investigated using ab initio and density functional theory(DFT) with very large basis sets. The highest levels of theory employed in this study are B3LYP/cc-pVQZ for geometry optimization and MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ//B3LYP/aug-cc-pVTZ for binding energy. The harmonic vibrational frequencies and IR intensities are also determined at the various levels of theory to confirm whether the structure of water complex is affected by the presence of benzene. The binding energies of Bz-$H_2O$ (N-1) structure are predicted to be 3.92 kcal/mol ($D_e$) and 3.11 kcal/mol ($D_0$) after the zero-point vibrational energy correction at the MP2/cc-pVQZ//B3LYP/cc-pVQZ level of theory. The binding energies of [Bz-$H_2O]^+$ (C-1) structure are predicted to be 9.06 kcal/mol for $D_e$ and 7.82 kcal/mol for $D_0$ at the same level of theory.
An important characteristics during fire growth is the phenomena of flashover, which is the transition from the local combustion to the full-room fire. The aim of this study is to predict the flashover times, the ignition times and HRR(heat release rate) of flashover for building interior materials. By using the literature data and RSM(response surface methodology), the new equations for predicting the flashover time, the ignition time and the HRR of building interior materials are proposed. The A.A.P.E.(average absolute percent error) and the A.A.D.(average absolute deviation) of the reported and the calculated flashover times were 38.74sec and 51.24sec respectively, and the correlation coefficient was 0.975. The A.A.P.E and the A.A.D of the reported and the calculated ignition times were 10.96sec and 1.97sec, and the correlation coefficient was 0.962. Also the A.A.P.E and the A.A.D. of the reported and the calculated the HRR of flashover by means of times were 29.92 and 514, and the correlation coefficient was 0.830. The values calculated by the proposed equations were in good agreement with the literature data. Therefore, it is expected that this proposed equations will support the use of the research for other building interior materials.
Sodium dodecyl sulfate-capillary gel electrophoresis (SDS-CGE) and capillary isoelectric focusing (CIEF) were employed to characterize and compare ricin E purified from the small grain seeds of Ricinus communis with ricin D isoform. During the purification of ricin E using ion-exchange and size-exclusion chromatography, SDS-CGE was found to be useful for monitoring the efficiencies of purification steps. SDS-CGE showed that the molecular size of ricin E was not significantly different from that of ricin D, which was confirmed by matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry. CIEF was useful for discriminating ricin E from ricin D based on their isoelectric points (pI). The pI values of ricin E and D were 8.6-8.8 and 7.0-7.4, respectively. This study demonstrates the usefulness of SDS-CGE and CIEF for the characterization of ricin toxins.
The study of the Rana plancyi, was done during the calling period at a pond in Osong, Chungbuk, Korea from May to the middle of August of 1996 and 1997. Five basic types of call-A, B, C, D, E, - were identified in Rana plancyi according to the structure of call types. The structure of A type call has only one pulse, B type call has two pulses and C, D type call has one separated pulse which is called introductory call and pulse group as follow it. On the other hand, E type call has 3-6 separate pulses. The interval between introductory call and pulse group is $0.73{\pm}0.29$ s(n=159) in C type call and $0.60{\pm}0.21$ s (n=48) in D type call. The number of pulses in the pulse group is $30.08{\pm}8.69$ in C type call and $15.78{\pm}2.40$ in D type call. An increase in water temperature induces a decrease in C and D type call duration (C type call r= -0.4153, p<0.001, D type call r=-0.7064, p<0.001). In case of C and D type call, the interval between introductory call and pulse group influenced more call duration than pulse group duration. We regarded A, B type call as a territorial call and C, D type call as a mating call and we recognized that E type call has the function of threat or alarm.
This study was conducted to investigate novel genetic variations of MCIR^*3 allele. In general, white spotting or white belt on a black backgroud in pigs is determined by the E$^p$ allele at the MCIR/Extention locus. E$^p$ shares a frameshift mutation with the E$^{D2}$ allele for dominant black color. An oligonucleotide primer set was designed to amplify complete coding sequence of the porcine MCIR gene. The MCIR coding sequences obtained from five breeds those were Landrace(white). Yorkshire(white), Hampshire(belt), Berkshire(spot) and Jeju native black pigs(black), were used for this study. A multiple sequence alignment of the MCIR coding region using Clustal W was performed. The total length of the MCIR coding sequence ranged from 963 to 966 base pairs(bp) among the selected breeds. The sequence analysis of the complete coding region of MCIR was revealed that Hampshire and Jeju native black pig have 3 cytosines deletion and Birkshire has 2 cytosines deletion at codon 23(nt68) in Extention loci. Besides the finding, there were three different missense mutations and a frameshift mutation in the MCIR coding region.

An extracellular $\beta$-glucosidase produced by Monascus purpureus NRRL1992 in submerged cultivation was purified by acetone precipitation, gel filtration, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography, resulting in a purification factor of 92-fold. A $2^2$ central-composite design (CCD) was performed to find the best temperature and pH conditions for enzyme activity. Maximum activity was observed in a wide range of temperature and pH values, with optimal conditions set at $50^{\circ}C$ and pH 5.5. The $\beta$-glucosidase showed moderate thermostability, was inhibited by $HgCl_2$, $K_2Cr_O_4$, and $K_2Cr_2O_7$, whereas other reagents including $\beta$-mercaptoethanol, SDS, and EDTA showed no effect. Activity was slightly stimulated by low concentrations of ethanol and methanol. Hydrolysis of p-nitrophenyl-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside (pNPG), cellobiose, salicin, n-octyl-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside, and maltose indicates that the $\beta$-glucosidase has broad substrate specificity. Apparently, glucosyl residues were removed from the nonreducing end of p-nitrophenyl-$\beta$-D-cellobiose. $\beta$-Glucosidase affinity and hydrolytic efficiency were higher for pNPG, followed by maltose and cellobiose. Glucose and cellobiose competitively inhibited pNPG hydrolysis.
Twenty-four yearling Boer$\times$Spanish goats were used in a crossover design experiment to determine effects of tethering on forage selection, intake and digestibility, grazing behavior and energy expenditure (EE) with forage high in nutritive value and low to moderate in mass. Objectives were to determine if tethered goats could be used as a model for study of unrestrained animals and to characterize tethering as a production practice. Four 0.72-ha pastures of wheat (Triticum aestivum) and berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrium) were grazed in December and January. Each pasture hosted six animals, three with free movement and three attached to a 4.11-m tether for access to a circular area of $53.1m^2$. Tethering areas were moved each day. One animal of each treatment and pasture was used to determine forage selection, fecal output or grazing behavior and EE; therefore, there were eight observations per treatment. Mass of forage DM before grazing in Tethered areas averaged 1,280 and 1,130 kg/ha in periods 1 and 2, respectively. The CP concentration in ingesta was greater ((p<0.05) 239 and 209 g/kg; SE = 8.0) and the NDF level was lower (p<0.05) for Free vs. Tethered animals (503 and 538 g/kg; SE = 12.0); in vitro true DM digestion was similar between treatments (0.808 and 0.807 for Free and Tethered, respectively; SE = 0.0096). Intakes of DM (1,013 and 968 g/d; SE = 78.6), NDF (511 and 521 g/d; SE = 39.9) and ME (10.9 and 10.7 MJ/d; SE = 0.90) were similar between treatments, but CP intake was greater (p<0.05) for Free vs. Tethered animals (241 and 203 g/d; SE = 17.2). There were small treatment differences in in vivo apparent digestibility of OM ((p<0.05) 0.780 and 0.814; SE = 0.0049), CP ((p<0.05) 0.800 and 0.817; SE = 0.0067) and NDF ((p<0.09) 0.777 and 0.760 for Free and Tethered, respectively; SE = 0.0078). There were no treatment effects on time spent ruminating or grazing (346 and 347 min/d for Free and Tethered, respectively; SE = 42.5), but EE was considerably greater (p<0.05) for Free vs. Tethered animals (571 and 489 kJ/kg $BW^{0.75}$; SE = 8.9). In conclusion, with forage of high nutritive value and low to moderate in mass, tethering can offer a production advantage over free grazing of less energy used for activity despite similar grazing time. With forage removal considerably less than that available for grazing, effects of tethering on chemical composition of selected forage were small and less than needed to markedly affect digestion. Tethering may offer a means of studying some aspects of grazing by ruminants, but would not seem suitable for energy metabolism.
