  • Sensory evaluation of shucking pressure, pressure holding time, seeding method, difference in full shucking rate in the aquaculture area and shucking oyster was performed using an ultra-high pressure oyster shucking machine. The reaching time for each target pressure is 2.2-2.4 MPa/sec in the range of 180 MPa to 240 MPa. had a rate of pressure rise. There was a difference of 0.5-1.7℃ in the range of 24-27℃ in the seawater temperature before and after the pressure treatment inside the pressure vessel, but there was no specific increase or decrease in seawater temperature. When only the shucking pressure is increased without the pressure holding time, the critical shucking pressure at which the oyster shell is opened and the flesh is peeled in the range of 200 to 220 MPa. When the critical shucking pressure is reached, the oyster sample in the closed vessel is expected to be shucked by about 40%. If there is no pressure holding time when judged only by full shucking, an increase in pressure of about 1.5 MPa is required to further shuck 3% of the oyster population. The oyster samples cultivated in the south coast of Korea were subject to full shucking under the conditions of 220 MPa shucking pressure and two minutes (120 seconds) of pressure holding time, and the difference in the pressure of the oysters according to the oyster seeding method and the farming area was minute. Finally, the condition of 220 MPa of shucking pressure and three minutes of pressure holding time was the best at 1.52 when the result of the sensory evaluation performed manually was set to 1.0. Next was 1.4 under the conditions of 220 MPa of shucking pressure and one minute of pressure holding time (60 seconds), and 1.3 under the condition of 220 MPa and two minutes of pressure holding time (120 seconds). Therefore, it is considered that the most desirable shucking conditions, considering the efficiency and sensory evaluation results, are the conditions of 220 MPa shucking pressure and two to three minutes of pressure holding time.

  • In this study, lots of methods have been studing to utilize energy and decrease contaminated effluents. There has been great progress on IGCC (Integrated gasification combined cycle) to reduce thermal energy losses. The following results have been conducted from desulfurization experiments using waste shell to remove H$_2$S. Fixed bed desulfurization experiments, to obtain basic data for scale-up was indicated. Oyster was the best among the various sorbents, like the results of TGA. Especially, H$_2$S removal efficiency of uncalcined oyster was the highest. When use oyster as desulfurization sorbents, calcination process was not needed. Thus, high desulfurization efficiency would be expected. Fixed bed reactor experiments were indicated particle size of sorbents. These had influenced on desulfurization capacity. As smaller particle size was found better desulfurization capacity. Large capacity difference was found between 0.613 mm and 0.335 mm. But, differences between 0.335 mm and 0.241 mm was relatively small. As bed temperature increased, H$_2$S removal capacity increased. Therefore, both particle size and bed temperature should be considered to remove H$_2$S by sorbents.

  • Bottom Ash is industrial by-product from a thermoelectric power plant. An immense quantities of bottom ash have increased each year, but most of them is reclaimed in ash landfill. In this study, in order to raise recycling rate of Bottom Ash, it is suggested to cure Bottom Ash (BA) mixtures mixed with cement, lime, Fly Ash (FA), and oyster shell (OS). Mixtures of 5~20 % mixing ratio had been cured for 1, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days using sealed curing and air-dry curing method. Unconfined compressive strength test was conducted to determine strength and deformation modulus ($E_{50}$) change for mixtures as mixing ratio and curing day, water contents of mixtures were measured after test. As a result, strength and $E_{50}$ were increased as mixing ratio and curing days, but values and tendencies of them appeared in different as kind of mixture, mixing ratio, curing method, and curing days. The results showed the addition of cement, lime, Fly Ash, and oyster soil in Bottom Ash could improved strength and $E_{50}$ and enlarge its field of being used.

  • In order to understand the effect of introduction of oyster rack culture on natural short-necked clam, Ruditapes philippinarum, stock, we investigated the status of natural clam stock prior to introduction of oyster rack culture at Yeongheung Coast of Wando Island. The growth equation of the clam was estimated as: $L_t=61.46{\cdot}(1-e^{-0.172(t+0.155)})$ from ring radius composition of shell. Instantaneous coefficient of total mortality and natural mortality were calculated as: 2.4087/year and 0.478/year, respectively. The age at first capture was estimated to be 2.55 year. The total biomass was estimated to 3.23 ton in the bed (0.8 ha). Applied by these parameters, the annual recruit biomass and the current yield per recruit (Y/R) was corresponded to $114.7individuals/m^2$ and $92.0g/m^2$, respectively. Maximum sustainable yield (MSY) was estimated 0.77 ton/year which was close to annual catches, 0.74 ton/year, in the area.

  • Research for heat insulation of buildings is being carried out, in which a heat exchange barrier is used around the openings and balcony parts as a method for heat exchange blocks. However, the preparation for a fire is inadequate. In order to improve the EPS used as a heat exchange barrier in an attempt to solve this, there is a study on lightweight foamed concrete, but as the amount of EPS used for strengthening fire resistance increases, it becomes lower. There is no strength applied to buildings, and also. There is a limit to the amount of EPS used. In the study, we use oyster shells to secure the EPS replacement rate limit of lightweight Foamed concrete, and try to measure the change of physical properties depending on the unit cement content.

  • In this study, lots of methods have been studing to utilize energy and decrease contaminated effluents. There has been great progress on IGCC (Integrated gasification combined cycle) to reduce thermal energy losses. The following results have been conducted from desulfurization experiments using waste shell to remove $H_{2}S$. Unreacted core model ior desulfuriration rate prediction of sorbent was indicated. These were linear relationship between time and conversion. So co-current diffusion resistance was conducted reaction rate controlling step. The sulfidation rate is likely to be controlled primarily by countercurrent diffusion through the product layer of calcium sulfide(CaS) formed. Maximum desulfurization capacity was observed at 0.631 mm for lime, oyster and hard-shelled mussel. The kinetics of the sorption of $H_{2}S$ by CaO is sensitive to the reaction temperature and particle size at $800^{\circ}C$, and the reaction rate of oyster was faster than the calcined limestone at $700^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and Poly(butylene-adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) composite films containing calcined oyster shell powder (OSP) were evaluated for the applicability of antimicrobial packaging. PLA/PBAT-OSP composite films were prepared using twin-screw extruder. The OSP composite was incorporated into PLA/PBAT blend with different ratios (0, 1, 3, 5 and 10%) and the effect of OSP in the PLA/PBAT matrix was evaluated. The PLA/PBAT-OSP composite films were evaluated for properties using FT-IR, SEM, TGA, DSC, UTM, UV-vis, and Contact angle, as well as antimicrobial property was examined according to ISO 22196 - Antimicrobial Plastic Test. As OSP was added, it showed high antimicrobial activities for both Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) bacteria. On the other hand, it was found that mechanical properties decreased as OSP was added. For the application of PLA/PBAT-OSP composite films as an antimicrobial packaging material, it is necessary to improve the dispersibility of OSP in the PLA/PBAT composite films and their physical properties at the same time.

  • To evaluate the removal performance of PO4-P and NH3-N, laboratory experiments were conducted by filling a container with oyster shells, pyrolyzed at 100℃ (POS100), 600℃ (POS600) and 800℃ (POS800), and passing artificial wastewaters through the container. The pH in the ef luent was found to increase due to CaO eluted from oyster shell. Removal amounts of PO4-P of ~23.1 mg/kg, 16.1 mg/kg, and 15.9 mg/kg were obtained when POS100, POS600, and POS800, respectively, were used; therefore, the highest PO4-P removal amount was obtained when POS100 was used. It is considered that Ca and dolomite in the oyster shells adsorbed and precipitated PO4-P. Removal amounts of NH3-N were of ~3.56 mg/kg, 5.72 mg/kg, and 3.97 mg/kg were obtained when POS100, POS600, and POS800, respectively, were used The low removal rate for NH3-N is probably due to unstable nitrification, use of sealed containers, and the effect of NH3-N being converted to NH4+ upon increasing pH. Based on these results, pyrolyzed oyster shell is expected to promote changes in PO4-P and NH3-N concentrations through chemical reactions. These results can also be used for basic research in the development of wastewater treatment.

  • This study classified oyster shells that produced as a industrial waste into 3 distribution by washing, drying and processing them. Mortar specimens with a constant ratio by using this to substitute fine aggregates were made, and the specimens were heated under the heating conditions of $300^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ based on the 28-day age. On the age of 28 days, the plain flexural strength was found to be 9.2MPa, and in O 0.15, it was shown to be 4.4~7.9MPa depending on the substitution rate. It was found to be 4.4~7.7MPa in O 1.2~2.5 depending on the substitution rate, and last but not least, it was shown to be 6.1~8.8MPa in case of O 2.5~5.0 depending on the substitution rate. In case of the compressive strength of the 28-day age, it showed the difference of 23.6~43.2MPa in O 0.15 depending on the substitution rate, and 20.4~45.1MPa in O 1.2~2.5 depending on the substitution rate, and last but not least, 17.1~40.4MPa in case of O 2.5~5.0. As a result of measuring the residual strength through heating, in case of substituting fine aggregates less than O 0.15 by 100%, it showed the lowest strength reduction ratio, and it is expected that the heat-resisting property could be achieved through processing and proper mixing of oyster shells through these results.
