디아미노피리딘아조계 Red 분산염료들의 합성과 염색성 (Synthesis and Dyeing Properties of Red Disperse Dyes Derived from Diaminopyridines)

  • Disperse dyes derived from heterocyclic compounds such as phenylindole, pyridone, diaminopyridine, and carbazole have been known to exhibit high light fastness and bathochromic shift compared to the coursponding aminoazobenzene. The synthetic method to obtain diaminopyridine derivatives, which can be used as coupling components, was chlorination of pyridone with phosphorous oxychloride, followed by substitution with various primary amines. Four azo disperse dyes were synthesized by coupling four diaminopyridines with 2-cyano-4-nitroaniline as a diazo component. Structures of these dyes were confirmed by $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy. The wavelengths of maximum absorption of the synthesized disperse dyes were in the range of $517\~528nm$, and molar extinction coefficients were $45,700\~50,100$. The dyeability of four disperse dyes toward PET fiber was generally good. Wash and rubbing fastnesses were excellent, while light and dry heat fastness were good.

NiSO4 Supported on FeO-promoted ZrO2 Catalyst for Ethylene Dimerization

  • The $NiSO_4$ supported on FeO-promoted $ZrO_2$ catalysts were prepared by the impregnation method. FeOpromoted $ZrO_2$ was prepared by the coprecipitation method using a mixed aqueous solution of zirconium oxychloride and iron nitrate solution followed by adding an aqueous ammonia solution. The addition of nickel sulfate (or FeO) to $ZrO_2$ shifted the phase transition of $ZrO_2$ (from amorphous to tetragonal) to higher temperatures because of the interaction between nickel sulfate (or FeO) and $ZrO_2$. 10-$NiSO_4$/5-FeO-$ZrO_2$ containing 10 wt % $NiSO_4$ and 5 mol % FeO, and calcined at 500 ${^{\circ}C}$ exhibited a maximum catalytic activity for ethylene dimerization. $NiSO_4$/FeO-$ZrO_2$ catalysts was very effective for ethylene dimerization even at room temperature, but FeO-$ZrO_2$ without $NiSO_4$ did not exhibit any catalytic activity at all. The catalytic activities were correlated with the acidity of catalysts measured by the ammonia chemisorption method. The addition of FeO up to 5 mol % enhanced the acidity, surface area, thermal property, and catalytic activities of catalysts gradually, due to the interaction between FeO and $ZrO_2$ and due to consequent formation of Fe-O-Zr bond.

Novel Syntheses of 5-Aminothieno[2,3-c]pyridazine, Pyrimido[4',5':4,5]thieno[2,3-c]pyridazine, Pyridazino[4',3':4,5]thieno-[3,2-d][1,2,3]triazine and Phthalazine Derivatives

  • Condensation of 4-cyano-5,6-dimethyl-3-pyridazinone 1 with aromatic aldehydes gave the novel styryl derivatives 2a-c. Refluxing of compound 2a with phosphorus oxychloride furnished 3-chloropyridazine derivative 3. Compound 3 was reacted with thiourea and produced pyridazine-3(2H)thione 4. Thieno[2,3-c]- pyridazines 5a-e were achieved by cycloalkylation of compound 4 with halocompounds in methanol under reflux and in the presence of sodium methoxide. Also, refluxing of compound 4 with N-substituted chloroacetamide in the presence of potassium carbonate afforded thienopyridazines 6a-e. Cyclization of compound 6 with some electrophilic reagents as carbon disulfide and triethyl orthoformate furnished the novel pyrimido[4',5':4,5]thieno[2,3-c]pyridazines 12 and 13a-c, respectively. Diazotisation of compound 6 with sodium nitrite in acetic acid produced the pyridazino[4',3':4,5]thieno[3,2-d][1,2,3]triazines 14a-c. Ternary condensation of compound 1, aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile in ethanol containing piperidine under reflux afforded the novel phthalazines 16a-c. Compound 3 was subjected to some nucleophilic substitution reactions with amines and sodium azide and formed the aminopyridazines 17a, b and tetrazolo[1,5-b]-pyridazine 19, respectively. The structures of the synthesized compounds were established by elemental and spectral analyses.

Influence of Fungicidal Spray on Powdery Mildew Epidemics and Major Yield-Attributing Characters of Mungbean

  • The influence of fungicidal spray was assessed on powdery mildew epidemics caused by Erysiphe polygoni D.C. and on yield-attributing characters of mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek]. Mildew attack adversely affected the yield-attributing characters of mungbean and exhibited negative significant correlation with pod length (-0.57), pods/plant (-0.74), pod weight (-0.68), 100 seeds weight (-0.69), 100 seeds swell weight (-0.59), and seed germination (-0.71). These characters had direct or indirect effects on grain yield, which was also adversely affected due to mildew attack (-0.89). Powdery mildew was significantly retarded due to the single spray of carbendazim (0.05%) at 30-day-old crop, where the apparent rate of infection (r) was minimum at 0.0095/ unit/day and with low (11.44%) powdery mildew intensity. Other fungicides like tridemorph (0.075%) and penconazole (0.05%) were equally effective against the mildew disease where the disease intensity was less than 20% and the values of r were 0.0134 and 0.039/unit/day respectively, as compared with the control at 0.267/unit/day. Fungicide spray influenced the yield-attributing characters besides controlling the disease. Such effects were more pronounced in carbendazim (0.05%)-treated plots due to its phytotonic nature where pod length (7.59cm), pods/plant (29.75), pod weight (8.16 g), 100 grain weight (3.94 g), and swell weight of 100 seed (9.49 g) were maximum resulting to the highest yield (480 kg/ha) as compared with that of control (224 kg/ha). Spray of carbendazim also improved seed germination (74.5%). Spray of other fungicides like carbendazim with copper oxychloride in 1:1 ratio, tridemorph (0.075%), and penconazole (0.05%) was equally effective against powdery mildew of mungbean. These fungicides also exhibited positive effects on yield-attributing characters of the crop and finally increased yield. These systemic fungicides were more effective in controlling powdery mildew disease of V. radiata in the rainy season compared with wettable sulphur.

Diphenyl ethanolamidophosphate의 합성과 면섬유에 대한 방염성 (The Synthesis of Diphenyl ethanolamidophosphate (DPEAP) and the Flame Retardancy of Cotton Fabric)

  • Diphenyl ethanolamidophosphate(DPEAD) was synthesized for the purpose of developing a new flame retardant for cotton fabric. As the intermediate material was used diphenyl chlorophosphate(DPCP) and it was synthesized by using phosphorus oxychloride and phenol as the starting materials. The final product DPEAP was obtained by the reaction of DPCP and ethanolamine. The flame retardancy of cotton fabrics treated by DPEAP through pad-dry-cure(PDC) process was examined at various conditions. The physical property change of the DPEAP treated cotton fabrics were investigated by examining the drape stiffness, the wrinkle recovery, and the tensile strength. The results are summarized as follows: (1) DPEAP has shown excellent flame retardancy on cotton fabrics in comparison to other flame retardants for cotton fabrics available commercially. (2) The optimal condition for PDC process found was that the curing temperature was 16$0^{\circ}C$, the DPEAP concentration was 10%, the catalyst $({NH_{4})_{2}HPO_{4}$ concentration was 7.0%, and the fixing agent hexamethylol melamine (HMM)/DPEAP weight ratio was 1/8. (3) The wrinkle recovery of the processed fabrics increased with increasing DPEAP concentration. (4) The drape stiffness of the cotton fabrics treated by DPEAP have shown essentially no change until increasing DPEAP concentration to 15 %, however DPEAP concentration exceeds 20% the drape stiffness increased drastically with increasing DPEAP concentration. When DPEAP concentration is kept constant the drape stiffness increased with increasing $({NH_{4})_{2}HPO_{4}$ concentration and HMM/DPEAP weight ratio. (5) The tensile strength of the processed fabrics was lower than that of untreated fabrics, but the tensile strength retention increased with increasing DPEAP concentration.

ESD 코팅법에 의한 ZrO2/Ti 전극의 제조 및 전기화학적 특성 (Preparation and Electrochemical Characterization of ZrO2/Ti Electrode by ESD Coating Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 ESD(Electrostatic spray deposition) 코팅법을 이용하여 지르코늄 산화물을 티타늄에 코팅한 전극을 제조하였다. 전처리과정에서 티타늄 기판의 에칭 방법 효율과 에칭된 티타늄 기판에 지르코늄 산화물 막의 제조 및 전기 화학적 특성에 대하여 연구하였다. 염산 에칭은 티타늄 기판에 가늘고 균일한 홈이 생성된다. 강력한 산화제로 사용되는 오존과 차아염소산을 생성하는 효과적인 금속 산화물 전극의 제작과 물질의 특성에 대해 고찰하였고 참고문헌을 통해 지그코늄 산화물에 초점을 맞추었다. 지르코늄 산화물 전극의 제작의 재현성을 향상시키기 위한 코팅 방법으로 지르코늄 옥시클로라이드의 ESD 코팅법을 사용하였다. 티타늄 기판 위에 지르코늄 산화물 막의 형성에 대한 테스트로 SEM, XRD, Cyclic voltammery를 수행하였다.

CeO2-Promoted Highly Active Catalyst, NiSO4/CeO2-ZrO2 for Ethylene Dimerization

  • The $NiSO_4/CeO_2-ZrO_2 $catalysts containing different nickel sulfate and $CeO_2$ contents were prepared by the impregnation method, where support, $CeO_2-ZrO_2$was prepared by the coprecipitation method using a mixed aqueous solution of zirconium oxychloride and cerium nitrate solution followed by adding an aqueous ammonia solution. No diffraction line of nickel sulfate was observed up to 20 wt %, indicating good dispersion of nickel sulfate on the surface of $CeO_2-ZrO_2$. The addition of nickel sulfate (or $CeO_2$) to $ZrO_2$ shifted the phase transition of $ZrO_2$ from amorphous to tetragonal to higher temperatures because of the interaction between nickel sulfate (or $CeO_2$) and $ZrO_2$. A catalyst (10-$NiSO_4/1-CeO_2-ZrO_2$) containing 10 wt % $NiSO_4$ and 1 mole % $CeO_2$, and calcined at $600{^{\circ}C}$ exhibited a maximum catalytic activity for ethylene dimerization. The catalytic activities were correlated with the acidity of catalysts measured by the ammonia chemisorption method. The role of $CeO_2$was to form a thermally stable solid solution with zirconia and consequently to give high surface area, thermal stability and acidity of the sample.

Some Pyridyl- and Thiophenyl-Substituted 1,2,4-Triazolo[3,4-b]1,3,4-thiadiazole Derivatives as Potent Antibacterial

  • The target compounds 6-11a-e were synthesized by condensing 4-amino-5-aryl-3H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiones 5a-f with various aromatic carboxylic acids in the presence of phosphorous oxychloride. The structures of newly synthesized compounds were characterized by IR, $^1H$ NMR, $^{13}C$ NMR, elemental analysis and mass spectrometric studies. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial activity. Almost all the tested compounds were potent against four different strains of bacteria when compared with that of reference drug ciprofloxacin. Compounds 6c, 6e, 8d, 9b, 9e, 11a and 11b showed nearly equal or lower MIC values than standard drug, against all four tested bacterial strains but rest of the compounds showed excellent antibacterial activities.

고순도 TiCl4 제조 및 이를 활용한 고순도 Ti 분말 제조 공정 연구 (Study on Manufacture of High Purity TiCl4 and Synthesis of High Purity Ti Powders)

  • Ti has received considerable attention for aerospace, vehicle, and semiconductor industry applications because of its acid-resistant nature, low density, and high mechanical strength. A common precursor used for preparing Ti materials is $TiCl_4$. To prepare high-purity $TiCl_4$, a process based on the removal of $VOCl_3$ has been widely applied. However, $VOCl_3$ removal by distillation and condensation is difficult because of the similar physical properties of $TiCl_4$ and $VOCl_3$. To circumvent this problem, in this study, we have developed a process for $VOCl_3$ removal using Cu powder and mineral oil as purifying agents. The effects of reaction time and temperature, and ratio of purifying agents on the $VOCl_3$ removal efficiency are investigated by chemical and structural measurements. Clear $TiCl_4$ is obtained after the removal of $VOCl_3$. Notably, complete removal of $VOCl_3$ is achieved with 2.0 wt% of mineral oil. Moreover, the refined $TiCl_4$ is used as a precursor for the synthesis of Ti powder. Ti powder is fabricated by a thermal reduction process at $1,100^{\circ}C$ using an $H_2-Ar$ gas mixture. The average size of the Ti powder particles is in the range of $1-3{\mu}m$.

Copper-Based Compounds against Erwinia amylovora: Response Parameter Analysis and Suppression of Fire Blight in Apple

  • Fire blight, caused by Erwinia amylovora, is one of the major bacterial disease of apple and pear, causing enormous economic losses worldwide. Several control measures against E. amylovora have been reported till date, however, none of them have proved to be effective significantly against the pathogen. In this study, mechanisms of the copper-based control agents (CBCAs): copper oxychloride (COCHL), copper oxide (COX), copper hydroxide (CHY), copper sulfate basic (CSB), and tribasic copper sulfate (TCS) and their disease severity reduction efficacy against E. amylovora were analyzed. Bis-1,3-dibutylbarbituric acid trimethine oxonol, carboxyl fluorescein diacetate succinimidyl ester, and 5-cyano-2,3-ditolyl tetrazolium chloride staining were used to check the damage of membrane potential, cytoplasmic pHin, and respiration of CBCAs-treated E. amylovora, respectively. High disturbance in the membrane potential of E. amylovora was found under COX and COCHL treatments. Similarly, higher significant changes in the inner cytoplasmic pHin were observed under COX, COCHL, and TCS treatment. CHY and COCHL-treated E. amylovora showed a significant reduction in respiration. In vitro bioassay results revealed that CHY, CSB, and TCS at 2,000 ppm reduced the severity of fire blight both in pre- and post-treatment of CBCAs in immature apple fruits and seedlings. Overall, the most effective CBCAs against E. amylovora could be CHY at 2,000 ppm as its showed inhibition mechanisms and disease severity reduction.
