The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li secondary battery. We investigated the effects of lithium salts, plasticizer addition, temperature dependence of conductivity and electrochemical stability window of polyethylene oxide(PEO) electrolytes. PEO electrolyte completed with LiCIO$\_$4/ shows the better conductivity than the others. PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte, when EO/Li$\^$+/ ratio is 8, showed adequate conductivity around room temperature. By adding propylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate to PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte, its conductivity was higher than that of PEO-LiCIO$\_$4/ without those. Also PEO$\_$8/LiCIO$\_$4/ electrolyte remains stable up to 4.5V vs. Li/Li.
Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are promising eco-friendly energy conversion system due to their high efficiency, low pollutant emission and fuel flexibility. High operating temperatures, however, leads to the crucial drawbacks such as incompatibility between the components and high thermal stress. Proton-conducting ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) with proton-conducting oxide (PCO) materials are new types of fuel cells that can solve the problems of conventional SOFCs. Many studies have been proceeded to improve the performance of electrolytes and electrodes, and triple conductive oxides (TCOs) have attracted significant attention as high performance PCFC electrodes.

Yttria-stablized zirconia (YSZ) is the most commonly used electrolyte material, but the reduction in working temperature leads to insufficient ionic conductivity. Ceria based electrolytes (GDC) are more attractive in terms of conductivity at low temperature, but these materials are well known to be reducible at very low oxygen partial pressure. The reduction of electrolyte resistivity is necessary to overcome cell performance losses. So, thin YSZ/GDC bilayer technology seems suitable for decreasing the electrolyte resistance at lower operating temperatures. Bilayer electrolytes composed of a galdolinium-doped $CeO_2$ ($Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{1.95}$, GDC) layer and yttria-stabilized $ZrO_2$ (YSZ) layer with various thicknesses were deposited by RF sputtering and E-beam evaporation. The bilayer electrolytes were deposited between porous Ni-GDC anode and LSM cathode for anode-supported single cells. Thin film structure and surface morphology were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), using $CuK{\alpha}$-radiation in the range of 2ce morphol$^{\circ}C$. The XRD patterns exhibit a well-formed cubic fluorite structure, and sharp lines of XRD peaks can be observed, which indicate a single solid solution. The morphology and size of the prepared particles were investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The performance of the cells was evaluated over $500{\sim}800^{\circ}C$, using humidified hydrogen as fuel, and air as oxidant.
The family of (Sr,Mg)-doped $LaGaO_3$ compounds, which exhibit high ionic conductivity at $600-800^{\circ}C$ over a wide range of oxygen partial pressure, appears to be promising as the electrolyte for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells. Conventional synthesis routes of (Sr,Mg)-doped $LaGaO_3$ compounds based on solid state reaction have some problems such as the formation of impurity phases, long sintering time and Ga loss during high temperature sintering. Phase stability problem especially, the formation of additional phases at the grain boundary is detrimental to the electrical properties of the electrolyte. From this point of view, we focused to synthesize single phase (Sr,Mg)-doped $LaGaO_3$ electrolyte at the stage of powder synthesis and to apply relatively low heat-treatment temperature using novel synthesis route based on combustion method. The synthesized powder and sintered bulk electrolytes were characterized by XRD, TG-DTA, FT-IR and SEM. AC impedance spectroscopy was used to characterize the electrical transport properties of the electrolyte with the consideration of the contribution of the bulk lattice and grain boundary to the total conductivity. Finally, relationship between synthesis condition and electrical properties of the (Sr, Mg)-doped $LaGaO_3$ electrolytes was discussed with the consideration of phase analysis results.
Characteristics of composite electrolytes which were prepared by coating a thin film of YSZ (yttria sta-bilized zirconia : (ZrO2)0.92 (Y2O3)0.08) on YDC (yttria doped ceria : Ce0.8Y0.2O1.9) with mixed conductivity have been investigated in order to develop the low-temperature solid oxide fuel cell. The thickness (t) of spin-coated YSZ thin films after the heat-treatment at 600$^{\circ}C$ was increased proportionally to the sol con-centrations (C) while the decrease in its thickness with the spin rate ($\omega$) could be expressed in the e-quation of ln t=9.49-0.53 ln $\omega$(0.99mol//s sol conc.) When the sol concentration and the spin rate being less than 0.99 mol/l and higher than 1000 rpm respectively reliable YSZ/YDC composite electrolytes could be obtained by multi-coating although several micro-cracks were observed in singly coated YSZ film surfaces. The dense YSZ film with a 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ thickness was prepared by coating of 0.99 mol/l YSZ sol five-times at 2000 rpm followed by heat-treatment at 1400$^{\circ}C$ for 2h, The adhesion between YSZ film and YDC substrate was found to be very good. The open circuit voltages of H2/O2 single cell with YSZ/YDC composite electrolytes were 0.79∼0.82 V at 800$^{\circ}C$ and 0.75∼0.77V at 900$^{\circ}C$ The open circuit voltage was inversely proportioned to the thickness ratio of YSZ thin film (1$\mu\textrm{m}$) to YDC substrate(0.28-2.22 mm)
In this article, we report the effect of blended cathode materials on the performance of all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (ASLBs) with oxide-based organic/inorganic hybrid electrolytes. LiFePO4 material is good candidates as cathode material in PEO-based solid electrolytes because of their low operating potential of 3.4 V; however, LiFePO4 suffers from low electric conductivity and low Li ion diffusion rate across the LiFePO4/FePO4 interface. Particularly, monoclinic Li3V2(PO4)3 (LVP) is a well-known high-power-density cathode material due to its rapid ionic diffusion properties. Therefore, the structure, cycling stability, and rate performance of the blended LiFePO4/Li3V2(PO4)3 cathode material in ASLBs with oxidebased inorganic/organic-hybrid electrolytes are investigated by using powder X-ray diffraction analysis, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller sorption experiments, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and galvanostatic measurements.
Among various fuel cells, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) offer the highest energy efficiency, when taking into account the thermal recycling of waste heat at high temperature. However, the highest efficiency and lowest pollution for a SOFC can be achieved through the sophisticated control of its constituent components such as electrodes, electrolytes, interconnects and sealing materials. The electrochemical conversion efficiency of a SOFC is particularly dependent upon the performance of its electrode materials. The electrode materials should meet highly stringent requirements to optimize cell performance. In particular, both mass and charge transport should easily occur simultaneously through the electrode structure. Matter transport or charge transport is critically related to the configuration and spatial disposition of the three constituent phases of a composite electrode, which are the ionic conducting phase, electronic conducting phase, and the pores. The current work places special emphasis on the quantification of this complex microstructure of composite electrodes. Digitized images are exploited in order to obtain the quantitative microstructural information, i.e., the size distributions and interconnectivities of each constituent component. This work reports regarding zirconia-based composite electrodes.

In this research, two thin film deposition techniques, Atomic Layer Deposition and Sputtering are carried out for the fabrication of Yittria Stabilized Zirconia electrolyte for thin film Solid Oxide Fuel Cell. Zirconium to Yittrium ratio for both cases is about 1/8. Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) image shows that the growth rate per hour for Atomic Layer Deposition is faster than for sputtering. X-ray Photo-electron Spectroscopy(XPS) shows that the peaks of both Zirconia and Yittria shift towards higher bending energy for the case of Atomic Layer deposition and thus are more strongly attached to the substrate. Later, Nyquist plot was used to compare the conductivity of Yittria Stabilized Electrolyte for both cases. The conductivity at $300^{\circ}C$ for Atomic Layer Deposited Yittria Stabilized Zirconia is found to be $5{\times}10^{-4}S/cm$ while that for sputtered Yittria Stabilized Zirconia is $2{\times}10^{-5}S/cm$ at the same temperature. The reason for better performance for Atomic Layered YSZ is believed to be the Nano-structured layer fabrication that aids in along the plane conduction as compared to the columnarly structured Sputtered YSZ.
A modified two-point impedance spectroscopy technique exploits the geometric constriction between an electrolyte and a cathode with an emphasis on semispherical-shaped electrolytes. The spatial limitation in the electrolyte/electrode interface leads to local amplification of the electrochemical reaction occurring in the corresponding electrolyte/electrode region. The modified impedance spectroscopy was applied to electrical monitoring of a YSZ ($Y_2O_3$-stabilized $ZrO_2$)/SSC ($Sm_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}CoO_3$) system. The resolved bulk and interfacial component was numerically analyzed in combination with an equivalent circuit model. The effectiveness of the "spreading resistance" concept is validated by analysis of the electrode polarization in the cathode materials of solid oxide fuel cells.

Safety issues in Li-ion battery system have been prime concerns, as demands for power supply device applicable to wearable device, electrical vehicles and energy storage system have increased. To solve safety problems, promising strategy is to replace organic liquid electrolyte with non-flammable solid electrolyte, leading to the development of all-solid-state battery. However, relative low conductivity and high resistance from rigid solid-solid interface hinder a wide application of solid electrolyte. Composite electrolytes composed of organic and inorganic parts could be alternative solution, which in turn bring about the increase of conductivity and conformal contact at physically rough interfaces. In our study, composite electrolytes were prepared by combining poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO) and $Li_7La_3Zr_2O_{12}$ (LLZO). The crystallinity, morphology and electrochemical performances were investigated with the control of LLZO contents from 0 wt% to 50 wt%. From the results, it is concluded that optimum content and uniform dispersion of LLZO in polymer matrix are significant to improve overall conductivity of composite electrolyte.
