Experimental Assessment of the Methanol Addition Effect on the Tribological Characteristics of Ni-based Alloy (메탄올 첨가에 따른 Ni 기반 합금의 트라이볼로지 특성 변화에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Currently, the demand for green technologies toward a sustainable future is rapidly increasing due to growing concern over environmental issues. Methanol is biodegradable and can provide clean combustion to reduce sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide emissions, and therefore it is a candidate fuel for marine engines. However, the effect of methanol on tribological characteristic degradation should be addressed for methanol-fueled engines. In this study, the methanol addition effects on tribological characteristic degradation is experimentally assessed using a pin-on-disk tribo-tester. Ni-based alloy is used as a target material due to its broad applicability as an engine component material. For a lubricant, engine oil with and without methanol are used. The tests are conducted for up to 10,000 cycles under boundary lubrication while the change in friction force is monitored. Additionally, the wear rate is determined based on laser scanning confocal microscope data. An additional test in which methanol is added at regular intervals is performed with an aim to directly observe its effect on friction. Overall, the friction coefficient increases slightly with increasing methanol concentration. Furthermore, the wear rate of the pin and disk increase significantly with methanol addition. The results also indicate that the friction increases instantaneously with methanol addition at the contacting interface. These findings may be useful for better understanding the methanol effect on the tribological characteristics of Ni-based alloys for methanol-fueled engines with improved performance.

Densification Study of K+-beta-aluminas Prepared from Their Ultra-fine Milled Powder (초미세 분쇄 분말로 제조된 K+-beta-aluminas의 치밀화 연구)

  • A super ionic conductor, $K^+$-beta-aluminas, which is known to be difficult to obtain in the form of dense sintered density under atmospheric pressure, was pulverized to 350 nm mean particle size using attrition mill. The sample were pressed into tablet form by uniaxial pressing. The specimen was sintered under atmospheric pressure in powder form. Sintering temperature range was $1400^{\circ}C$ to $1650^{\circ}C$ at $50^{\circ}C$ intervals. Additionally, zone sintering was carried out to control the growth grain at high temperature ($1600^{\circ}C$). The density of specimens that were sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$ and $1650^{\circ}C$, and sintered at $1600^{\circ}C$ by zone sintering were about 93% and 95%, respectively. In the case of the lengthened sintering time to 2 h, the density of specimen was reduced to lower than 90%, since the particles were grown to the duplex microstructure.

Preparation of Ni-GDC Powders by the Solution Reduction Method Using Hydrazine and Its Electrical Properties (하이드라진을 이용한 용액환원법에 의한 Ni-GDC 미분말 합성과 전기적 특성)

  • Ni-GDC (gadolinia-doped ceria) composite powders, the anode material for the application of solid oxide fuel cells, were prepared by a solution reduction method using hydrazine. The distribution of Ni particles in the composite powders was homogeneous. The Ni-GDC powders were sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ for 2 h and then reduced at $800^{\circ}C$ for 24 h in 3% $H_2$. The percolation limit of Ni of the sintered composite was 20 vol%, which was significantly lower than these values in the literature (30-35 vol%). The marked decrease of percolation limit is attributed to the small size of the Ni particles and the high degree of dispersion. The hydrazine method suggests a facile chemical route to prepare well-dispersed Ni-GDC composite powders.

  • In this study, the efficiency of a solid-oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system with a steam reformer or prereformer was analyzed under various conditions. The main components of the system are the reformer, SOFC, and water boiling heat recovery system. Endothermic and exothermic reactions occur in the reformer and SOFC, respectively. Hence, the thermal management of the SOFC system greatly influences the SOFC system efficiency. First, the efficiencies of SOFC systems with a steam reformer and a prereformer are compared. The system with the prereformer was more efficient than the one with steam reformer due to less heat loss. Second, the system efficiencies under various prereformer operating conditions were analyzed. The system efficiency was a function of the heat requirement of the system. The efficiency increased with an increase in the operating temperature of the prereformer, and the maximum system efficiency was observed at $450^{\circ}C$ for a S/C of 2.0.

Characteristics of (Sr,Ti)-doped $LaCrO_3$ Coating Layer for Ceramic Interconnect of Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (고체산화물 연료전지용 (Sr,Ti) 도핑된 $LaCrO_3$계 세라믹 연결재 코팅층의 특성 연구)

  • 고전도성 세라믹 연결재용 $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Cr_{1-x}Ti_xO_3$ (X=0.1 and 0.2) 연결재 재료의 소결도와 전기전도도에 대해서 연구하였다. 이러한 목적으로 $LaCrO_3$, $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Cr_{0.8}Ti_{0.2}O_3$ (LSCT82), $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Cr_{0.9}Ti_{0.1}O_3$ (LSCT91) 분말들을 공침법을 통해 합성하였으며, 결정구조는 X-ray Diffraction(XRD)를 통해 확인하였다. 소결 특성은 주사 전자현미경을 통해 분석하였고 전기 전도도는 직렬 4-단자 법으로 측정하였다. 상대 밀도 분석으로부터 도핑된 $LaCrO_3$$LaCrO_3$보다 더 높은 소결성을 나타내었고, 입자 크기가 작을수록 소결성이 향상하는 것을 확인 할 수 있었다. 다양한 소결온도에서 얻은 LSC, LSTC 시편들의 XRD 결과는 LSC와 LSTC의 소결성이 2차상의 상전이와 밀접한 관련이 있다는 사실을 나타내었다. 다시 말해, LSTC는 $1300^{\circ}$이상 LSC는 $1400^{\circ}C$ 이상에서 2차상이 융해됨으로써 소결성을 현저하게 향상시킨다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 비슷한 상대밀도를 가진 LSC와 LSTC의 전기 전도도를 비교 측정한 결과, LSTC가 LSC보다 더 높은 전기 전도도를 나타낸다는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • 고체산화물연료전지는 고효율 및 무공해의 전기화학 에너지 변환장치로서, 최근 국내외에서 활발한 연구개발이 수행되고 있다. 특히, 고체산화물 연료전지 시스템의 조기 상용화를 위해 시스템의 작동온도를 약 $800^{\circ}C$ 이하로 낮추고 저가로 생산 할 수 있는 제조공정 개발에 대한 연구를 적극적으로 수행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 고체산화물연료전지의 단위셀를 구성하는 연료극지지체 및 박막 전해질에 대해서 저가 양산의 테이프케스팅법 및 동시소성 공정, 그리고 연료극 지지체 전해질(anode-supported electrolyte)에 대한 공기극 페이스트 프린팅 제조공정에 대해 소개한다. 또한 고체산 화물연료전지의 제조공정 및 시간을 단축하기 위해 방전플라즈마 소결공법(SPS)에 의한 연료극 지지체 제조 공정, 단위셀의 성능 최적화를 위한 나노 스케일의 고성능 전해질 소재 분말합성 공정(crystallite size: 5~10nm, surface area : $100m^2/g$ 이상) 그리고 테이프케스팅에 의한 박막 전해질 제조 공정(thin film : $10{\mu}m$ 이하) 등 주요 단위셀 소재 및 부품의 제조공정 특성 그리고 단위셀의 전기화학적 특성(max. power density : 1.0 W/$cm^2$)에 대해 소개하며, 최종적으로 평판형 대면적 고체산화물연료전지(max. $20cm{\times}15cm$)의 단위셀 상용화 제조 기술 및 성능평가 기술에 대해서도 소개 할 예정이다.

  • 평판형 고체산화물 연료전지 스택의 고온 밀봉 구조에 대하여 설명하고 스택 운전 후 사후 분석을 통하여 밀봉재와 금속 분리판의 계면반응에 대하여 고찰하였다. 대표적인 고온 밀봉재인 Barium-Silicate 계 결정화 유리와 Fe-Cr 계 금속 분리판은 스택의 작동온도인 $700{\sim}850^{\circ}C$ 에서 고온 반응을 통하여 계면에 반응생성물을 형성하는 것이 확인되었다. 이러한 계면반응은 장기 운전시 SOFC 스택 성능 저하의 원인이 되고, 열 싸이클(작동온도${\leftrightarrow}$상온)을 가하면 계면반응 생성물이 delamination 되어 밀봉구조가 파괴되어 수명을 단축시키게 된다. 계면반응은 Fe-Cr 계 금속 분리판의 산화물인 Cr 산화물, Fe 산화물이 밀봉유리 소재와 반응을 일으키는 것이 주요 원인으로 판명되었다. SOFC 스택에서 열 싸이클시 계면반응에 의하여 기밀도가 감소하는 현상이 확인되었으며, 밀봉 구조의 어느 부분에서 계면반응이 진행되는지 관찰하였다. 이러한 계면반응을 막기 위해서는 금속 분리판과 밀봉유리 사이에 계면반응을 억제하는 보호층을 형성하는 방법이 효과적이다. 본 연구에서는 보호층으로서 밀봉유리 및 Fe-Cr 계 금속 분리판과의 계면반응성이 낮고 열팽창 계수가 비슷한 Yttria Stabilized Zirconia 층을 APS(Atmospheric Plasma Spray) 공정을 이용하여 형성하였다. 밀봉유리/YSZ 보호층/금속분리판은 gas-tight 한 밀봉 구조를 형성하였으며, YSZ 보호층은 밀봉유리와 Fe-Cr 계 금속 분리판 소재와 계면반응을 효과적으로 억제하는 것이 확인되었다.

  • Mankind is enjoying a great convenience of their life by the rapid growth of secondary industry since the Industrial Revolution and it is possible due to the invention of huge power such as engine. The automobile which plays the important role of industrial development and human movement is powered by the Engine Module, and especially Diesel engine is widely used because of mechanical durability and energy efficiency. The main work mechanism of the Diesel engine is composed of inhalation of the organic material (coal, oil, etc.), combustion, explosion and exhaust Cycle process then the carbon compound emissions during the last exhaust process are essential which is known as the major causes of air pollution issues in recent years. In particular, COx, called carbon oxide compound which is composed of a very small size of the particles from several ten to hundred nano meter and they exist as a suspension in the atmosphere. These Diesel particles can be accumulated at the respiratory organs and cause many serious diseases. In order to compensate for the weak point of such a Diesel Engine, the DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter) post-cleaning equipment has been used and it mainly consists of ceramic materials(SiC, Cordierite etc) because of the necessity for the engine system durability on the exposure of high temperature, high pressure and chemical harsh environmental. Ceramic Material filter, but it remains a lot of problems yet, such as limitations of collecting very small particles below micro size, high cost due to difficulties of manufacturing process and low fuel consumption efficiency due to back pressure increase by the small pore structure. This study is to test the possibility of new structure by direct infiltration of SiC Whisker on Carbon felt as the next generation filter and this new filter is expected to improve the above various problems of the Ceramic DPF currently in use and reduction of the cost simultaneously. In this experiment, non-catalytic VS CVD (Vapor-Solid Chemical Vaporized Deposition) system was adopted to keep high mechanical properties of SiC and MTS (Methyl-Trichloro-Silane) gas used as source and H2 gas used as dilute gas. From this, the suitable whisker growth for high performance filter was observed depending on each deposition conditions change (input gas ratio, temperature, mass flow rate etc.).

  • $CeO_2$는 고체 산화물 연료전지 (SOFC, soild oxide fuel cell)의 전해질 재료와 CMP(Chemical Mechanical Polishing) 슬러리 재료, 자동차의 3원 촉매, gas sensor, UV absorbent등 여러 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 위의 활용범위 외에 $CeO_2$의 구조적 안정성과 빠른 $Ce^{3+}/Ce^{4+}$의 전환 특성을 이용하여 lithium ion battery의 anode 재료로서 전기화학적 특성을 알아보고자 실험을 실시하였다. $CeO_2$ 합성에 사용되는 전구체인 cerium carbonate의 형상 및 크기, 비표면적과 같은 물리화학적 특성이 $CeO_2$ 분말의 특성에 직접적인 영향을 주기 때문에 전구체의 합성 단계에서 입자의 특성을 조절하였다. 전구체 합성의 출발원료로 cerium nitrate hexahydrate 와 ammonium carbonate를 사용하였고 반응온도 및 농도 등을 변화시켜 입자의 형상 및 결정상을 fiber형태의 orthorombic $Ce_2O(CO_3)_2{\cdot}H_2O$와 구형의 hexagonal $CeCO_3OH$의 세리아 전구체를 합성하였다. 이를 $300^{\circ}C$에서 30분 동안 하소하여 전구체의 입자형상을 유지하는 cubic $CeO_2$를 합성하고 X-ray diffraction, FE-SEM, micropore physisorption analyzer 분석을 통하여 입자의 결정상과 형상, 비표면적 등을 비교 분석하고 $Li/CeO_2$ couple의 충,방전 용량과 수명특성을 비교 분석하여 $CeO_2$의 전기화학적 특성을 알아보았다.

The effect of $Al_2O_3$ on mechanical strength and microstructure of TZ-8YS solid oxide fuel cell electrolyte ($Al_2O_3$가 TZ-8YS SOFC 전해질의 기계적 강도 및 미세구조에 미치는 영향)

  • The electrical and mechanical properties of the 8 mol% yittria-stabilized zirconia and alumina composites have been examined as a function of the alumina content. The 3-point bending strength and fracture toughness of the composites increased with increasing alumina content up to 20 wt%. The average grain size of the composites decreased with increasing alumina content up to 20 wt%. The composite with 5 wt% $Al_2O_3$ showed a 3-point bending strength of 310 MPa and fracture toughness about $7.8MPa\cdot\textrm m^{1/2}$. The electrical conductivity of the composites at $1000^{\circ}C$ increased slightly with increasing alumina content up to 10 wt% and decreased monotonically with alumina content. The conductivity of the TZ-8YS with 5 wt% alumina was 0.4 S/cm at $1000^{\circ}C$.
